WWE announced the following:

Fifth Harmony to perform ‘America the Beautiful’ at WrestleMania 32
STAMFORD, Conn. – As first reported by USA Today, WWE has announced that pop sensation Fifth Harmony will perform “America the Beautiful,” kicking off WrestleMania on Sunday, April 3, in front of the WWE Universe at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and live on WWE Network around the world. Fifth Harmony will join the likes of renowned artists Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and John Legend who have opened WWE’s annual pop culture extravaganza.

“We are so excited to be a part of this year’s WrestleMania!” the group said. “It’s such an honor to be chosen to perform at one of WWE’s biggest events. We can’t wait to see everyone in Arlington!”

“WWE has a long tradition of attracting the world’s most popular artists to perform at our biggest event of the year,” said Neil Lawi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, WWE Music Group. “Fifth Harmony will continue this great tradition as we look forward to their much-anticipated performance at this year’s WrestleMania.”

The award-winning girl group was formed in 2012 on the second season of “The X Factor USA” and will release their highly-anticipated sophomore album “7/27” in May. The first single from “7/27,” “Work from Home,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, marks the group’s highest debut on the Billboard 200 charts, and currently has nearly 50 million views on YouTube. 2016 has already been a big year for Fifth Harmony as they recently received the award for “Favorite Group” at the People’s Choice Awards and “Favorite Music Group” at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Last year, Fifth Harmony released their debut album, “Reflection,” solidifying their place at the top of pop as it debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200 and yielded two platinum-selling singles “BO$$” and “Sledgehammer,” and the quadruple-platinum hit, “Worth It.” Named 2015’s Billboard’s Women in Music’s Group of the Year, 2015 was an award-winning year, with honors at the MTV VMAs, MTV EMAs, MTV Fandom Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Kids’ Choice Awards, YouTube Music Awards and Radio Disney Music Awards.

Details On What Led To Bobby Roode And Eric Young Leaving TNA

As noted, former TNA World Heavyweight Champions Bobby Roode and Eric Young are now free agents as they both were granted their releases and finished up with TNA this weekend. The two good friends, who signed their TNA contracts together 12 years ago, will face each other in the main event of Tommy Dreamer’s House of Hardcore event on May 7th in Niagara Falls.

While they signed with TNA and left at the same time, their departures had nothing to do with each other. There are rumors going around saying the two decided to leave after being turned down on pay raises. PWInsider reports that those rumors are incorrect. Both departures came as a surprise but Young leaving shocked a lot of people as he’s been one of their most loyal talents throughout the years.

Young actually signed a new deal recently but was reportedly upset with what he was offered. Young was also believed to be frustrated with how wrestlers who hadn’t been with TNA as long, or had left and come back, were being offered deals better than his or at the same level. With that said, it’s also believed that Young had freedom to do outside projects without TNA’s involvement while a lot of talents being signed are 100% exclusive to TNA.

Young reportedly spoke up about being unhappy and TNA officials told him to decide on if he wanted to leave or stay. Young didn’t want to be locked into a deal and wanted freedom to pursue other projects as he’s approaching 40. The two sides negotiated his release, which included him working last week’s Impact Wrestling tapings in Orlando.

Regarding Roode’s departure, it’s being described as similar to what led to AJ Styles leaving a few years ago. Roode was under a contract that saw him being one of the highest-paid wrestlers, if not the highest paid wrestler, in the company. That deal expired in February. Apparently TNA felt like they couldn’t continue paying Roode, who was back in a tag team with James Storm, what he had been making and he wasn’t being used at a level where they felt they could make enough revenue off him to justify the pay. PWInsider described it as Roode working himself into a position that made him too expensive for TNA to retain in their current state. There had also been issues between Roode and TNA officials for months now as he was very upset with TNA getting behind on pay, and he was reportedly very vocal about it.

Roode also recently agreed to a new contract but changed his mind and requested the release due to “more frustrations.” No word on what caused those issues but multiple sources reported to PWInsider that TNA had already caught Roode up on pay. Like Young, Roode’s release included him working last week’s Impact tapings.

Another $25 Million Awarded In Hulk Hogan – Gawker Case

0

A jury in St. Petersburg, Florida just awarded another $25 million to WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.

The Gawker website was slapped with another $15 million in punitive damages and its owner with $10 million, adding to the $115 million Hogan was awarded last week for the website publishing his sex tape.

Gawker’s lawyer argued earlier today that the verdict was “debilitating” for the company as the website is worth $85 million.

Hogan’s lawyers told the jurors that they were in a position to send a message to others in the media.

John Cena Return Update, Hulk Hogan Wants To Return To WWE

– This should come as no surprise, but Hollywood Life reports that a source revealed to them that Hulk Hogan would love to return to WWE now that his lawsuit with Gawker is over, at least unless they decide to appeal.

“Hulk Hogan is beyond pleased with the results and is looking to get his life back in order,” the source told Hollywood Life. “And he would love his job back with the WWE.”

Hogan has not worked for WWE since last July when he was terminated after racist comments were released from one of his secret sex tapes, although Hogan-related content returned to the WWE Network last fall. He has often stated in media interviews that he would like to return to WWE.

– Alfred Konuwa has an article at Forbes about a Hogan return to WWE being “as inevitable as it does uncertain.” He wrote:

“There’s no telling where Hogan goes from here, but if he is entitled to such a lofty sum, he won’t need to peddle and dilute his namesake to any platform. Hogan’s ability to somehow ride off into the sunset allows him to remove himself from the public eye entirely, which will ultimately give him leverage if WWE ever broaches the idea of a comeback.”

Could Unsealed Documents Lead To Hulk Hogan Verdict Being Overturned?

Source: CNN Money

CNNMoney reports that the jury that awarded Hulk Hogan $115-million in his invasion of privacy lawsuit against online media company Gawker were not privy to almost 1,000 pages of previously sealed documents.

The documents, which will be central to Gawker’s appeal, call into question whether Hogan knew he was being recorded when he was filmed having sex with Bubba ‘The Love Sponge’ Clem’s then wife, Heather. Also, the documents suggest that Hogan may have been more concerned about the tapes being published because he made racial slurs that were captured on video.

According to the newly unsealed documents, Clem told the FBI that Hogan was aware that he was being recorded in the sex tape; however, Clem changed his tune on subsequent depositions.

Additionally, the documents, which were released on Friday prior to the verdict being delivered, allegedly indicate that Clem’s ex-wife knew that she was being filmed in the sex tape as well. This contradicts her previous sworn testimony that she was unaware of being filmed.

Also included in the documents are text messages exchanged between Hogan and Clem that we noted last week, which may suggest that Hogan was distressed by the possibility that someone could publish the sex tape depicting him making several racial slurs and not by the sex footage. Last summer, a portion of the sex tape came to light that captured Hogan making racist remarks about his daughter’s African American boyfriend.

Gawker contends that the text messages cast doubt as to whether Hogan really suffered emotional distress. If Hogan was concerned about his racist remarks being made public rather than the sexual activity, it would further call into question the jury’s $60-million award for emotional distress.

In addition to being awarded $60-million for emotional distress, Hogan’s favorable jury verdict included another $55-million for economic harm after Gawker published a clip of a video showing Hogan having sex. This week, the court will consider the imposition of punitive damages.

WWE Announces Stan Hansen For The 2016 Hall of Fame

WWE just announced the following:

Stan Hansen to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016

Stan Hansen, Borger, Texas’ nastiest resident, will take his place in sports-entertainment history on the eve of WrestleMania 32, when he is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016. The news was reported by Tokyo Sports in Japan, the country where Hansen spent most of his storied career. They got exclusive comments from the man known as “The Lariat.”

Hansen’s journey to the ring began in an unusual place: On the gridiron at West Texas State University, a factory for future wrestlers. When his football days came to an end, Hansen stepped into the squared circle and quickly earned a reputation as one of the most vicious competitors in the sport. Hansen’s style of wrestling wasn’t technically proficient or beautiful by any stretch of the imagination. It was dirty, gritty and ferocious. And it worked.

With an ever-present scowl on his face and his bull rope in hand, The Bad Man from Borger made his way to WWE in 1976. Hansen immediately set his sights on then-WWE Champion Bruno Sammartino. The double-tough Texan stunned fans when he broke The Living Legend’s neck with a devastating clothesline that would become known as the Lariat.

After a rematch with Sammartino at Shea Stadium, Hansen traversed across the Pacific Ocean to Japan, where he became a legend. One of the most feared foreigners in Japanese wrestling history, Hansen was the first gaijin to earn victories over the country’s most revered grapplers, Giant Baba and WWE Hall of Famer Antonio Inoki. While in Japan, Hansen also formed one of the most devastating tag teams in wrestling history with an old college friend, the unhinged Bruiser Brody. The cowboy and the fur-clad wildman had Japanese fans running from them as they entered the ring, and their opponents begging for mercy.

In between trips to Japan, Hansen returned to the U.S. to unleash his brand of brutality on American soil. The Bad Man from Borger won the AWA World Championship by defeating Rick Martel in 1985. He never lost the title, choosing to vacate it by running it over with his truck. In 1990, he ended Lex Luger’s record-setting reign as United States Champion. By 1991, he exclusively competed in Japan for the next 10 years, retiring in 2001 as a decorated champion and a legend in The Land of the Rising Sun.

Now, the surly outlaw will receive sports-entertainment’s highest honor, when he takes his place in the WWE Hall of Fame.
