The “OH MY GOD!” Review: WWA “Revolution” 2/24/02

0

WWA would run nine shows between the last PPV and this one. Psicosis would win the International Cruiserweight Championship from Juvy on December 8th in Glasgow, Scotland. Jeff Jarrett would either successfully defend his title against Road Dog and Scott Steiner in three way matches during the shows or be pinned by Brian Christopher in tag team matches. The last show of that tour took place on December 12th and WWA would not return until tonight’s PPV which aired live. Randy Savage was to be at this show but during the 30 minute pre show that aired a “X” would appear over images of him to let us know he was that going to be there.

The Revolution 2002-02-24 at Aladdin Casino in Las Vegas, NV

Champion: Jeff Jarrett
International Cruiserweight Championship: Psicosis

Tantric opens up the show with some terrible live music.

Opening video. The opening video has some clips from the house shows which means there is some unreleased WWA footage sitting somewhere.

Jeremy Borash and Mark Madden welcome us LIVE to WWA Revolution.

Nova vs. Low Ki vs. Shark Boy vs. AJ Styles vs. Tony Mamaluke vs. “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, ref Mark Johnson
Mamaluke and Styles start off. Madden is a moron and says it’s the first PPV for all six. Apparently not knowing about the company named ECW. Mamaluke may have also been on WCW PPV that Madden would have also actually been at. I don’t check on that though. Tony hits a sick looking german and Shark Boy switches with AJ. Shark Boy hits an atomic drop and then bites Mamaluke on the ass. Low Ki comes in and he kicks Shark Boy in the face. Daniels tags himself in and he goes to work on Ki. Ki slaps Nova on the chest to tag him in. Nova and Daniels with some fast back and forth and then Nova tags Ki. They hit a double gordsbuster on Daniels. Ki with a springboard kick gets a 2. Daniels tags Mamaluke. Mamaluke goes up top but Ki knocks him down and meets him up there. Shark Boy comes in and they do a power bomb superplex combo. Shark Boy covers but he is not the legal man. Daniels tags Shark Boy and somehow he becomes the legal man. They three men go to the floor and hit some dives. Nova and Styles now in the ring as everyone else is on the floor. Shark Boy with a rana from the top for 2. Shark Boy with diamond dust but Ki tags Tony during the move. Ki with a spring board kick on Shark Boy for the elimination in 7.48. AJ now in. KI kicks the shit out of AJ but only gets a 2. They each cross body and then tag Tony and Daniels. Tony with a snap suplex and then a northern lights for 2. Tony’s nose got busted open at some point in the match. Tony with a super belly to back. Daniels able to kick out. Daniels comes back and hits the angel’s wings and then tags AJ. AJ comes in and hits styles clash for the pin in 11.26. Nova comes in and hits a back breaker and somersault senton for a 2. Tag to Daniels and they hit a double atomic drop. KI gets tagged and goes to work on Daniels. Daniels with an electric chair drop and tags Nova. Nova comes in with an elbow drop for 2. Daniels makes a blind tag. KI and Nova are on the top and Ki locks in some sick looking submission from the top rope. KI with a phoenix splash for 2. Hardly connect and looked like shit though. Daniels and KI go to the floor and Daniels hits the arabian press to the floor. Styles with a shooting star to the floor! Nova goes up top but KI cuts him off. KI goes up with him but Daniels runs up hops on the second rope and pulls KI down with a urinagi slam for the pin in 15.21. Nova comes off the top now with a drop kick. AJ back in and he goes to work on Nova. Daniels goes for a enziguri on AJ but AJ ducks and it nails Nova. AJ with a neck breaker on Daniels. Urinagi by Daniels and the BME gets 2 and a half. AJ sunset flips Nova while he has a waist lock on Daniels and Daniels ends up getting germaned. That looked cool. AJ hits a super styles clash on Daniels and Daniels in gone in 18.10. AJ and Nova left and Nova hits a downward spiral for 2. Kryptonite crunch reversed into a german and then a belly to back into a face plant by AJ. AJ goes up top but Nova meets him up there. Nova hits a spanish fly for the win in 19.40. This was a fun spotfest.

Commissioner Bret “Hitman” Hart comes out and lets the fans know Randy Savage will not be there. Bret Hart says that Brian Christopher is going to be in the main event instead. Some replacement. Bret again talks about 9-11 and talks about Bin Ladin to get the crowd a hot. Why to take the focus off the fact that you totally just fucked the main event.

Midget wrestlers Puppet and Teo are about to brawl in the back when “The Funkster” Alan Funk shows up doing a fantastic Hulk Hogan impression. The midgets are so dumb founded they just stop and stare. After Funk leaves Puppet chases Teo.

Reno vs. The Funkster
Reno attacks as the ref checks Funk. Funk hits clotheslines in the corner and then an alley oop. The announcers really hyping that Brian Christopher announcement. Reno throws Funk onto the top rope and and then drop kicks him to the floor. Reno follows and beats on Funk on the floor. Back in the ring a gut wrench suplex gets 2 for Reno. Reno with an overhead belly to belly that almost kills Funk. Reno hits a few more suplexes until Funk “funks up” Reno though ducks the big boot and hits the roll of the dice. Reno though doesn’t go for the pin and heads to the second turnbuckle. Funk gets the boot up and he again “funks up”. Funk with a big boot, piledriver and leg drop for the win in 7.33.

A limo shows up and a bunch of girls and Scott Steiner come out. Disco Inferno comes out and is pissed off that his match with Brian Christopher got canceled. Disco says he should have been the one to be moved into the main event. Disco says that he is going to issue an open challenge and until someone comes out to wrestle him he is going to to join the commentary team. Disco and Madden argue with each other for about ten minutes. Borash tries to throw it to the next match like five different times. Apparently someone wasn’t ready or something. It looked bad.

Native Blood vs. Kronik, ref Mark Johnson
Native Blood is Navajo Warrior and Ghost Walker. They attack from behind but it doesn’t last long. Brian Adams with a press slam and he throws Walker out of the ring onto his partner. Bryan Clark with a somersault senton off the apron. Full nelson slam by Adams onto Warrior but the pin is broken up. Walker tags in but runs into a powerslam from Clark. Clark with a chokeslam and then he tags. Blood make a come back and hit a DDT. Adams with a tilt a whirl back breaker on Walker and he tags. Clark with the meltdown but the pin is broken up by Warrior. Double shoulder block on Walker and then they hit him with high times for the pin in 4.50

More terrible bantering from Madden and Disco and then we go to Terry Taylor with Puppet and grabs the mic from Terry and says his goal in life is to destroy every midget in the world. Dancing girls.

Puppet vs. Teo – Falls Count Anywhere Match
Puppet attacks Teo on the ramp and hits him with a suplex. Teo puts a trash can over Puppet’s head and blasts him with a chair a few times. Teo jumps off the top rope and splashes Puppet on the floor. It only gets a 2 count. Teo goes for a cross body but Puppet catches him with a powerslam. Puppet with a jack hammer for 2. Sideslam gets 2. Teo goes for a tilt a whirl head scissor but Puppet blocks it and goes into a boston crab variation. Puppet goes outside to get a garbage can but Teo cuts him off on the way back in the ring. Teo with ten punches in the corner and then goes for a rana but it’s blocked into a power bomb by Puppet. Puppet goes for a corner whip into the garbage can but Teo reverses it and Puppet its the can. Teo goes up top but misses a swanton bomb. They go to the ramp and Puppet pulls out a bag of thumb tacks. Puppet hits an F5 on the tacks for the win in 7.38. These guys actually tried to put on a serious match but the commentators just made midget jokes the whole fucking time killing everything these guys were trying to do.

Scott Steiner comes out and throws Puppet and Tio. Steiner rambles on the mic about sex and Bret Hart not putting him in the title match. Steiner says he is going to kick someones ass. Steiner goes over to Disco and throws him into the ring. Open challenge excepted. No ref in the ring so not an official match. Steiner hits a over head belly to belly. Disco actually fighting back a tiny bit instead of just getting his ass handed to him like he should be. Another belly to belly followed by a clothesline and elbow drop. Super overhead belly to belly and steiner recliner.

International Cruiserweight Championship Psicosis vs. Juventud Guererra vs. Eddy Guerrero, ref Mark Johnson
I’m pretty sure the two belts the company has are the same which means they probably just share it. First pinfall wins. Juvy hits Psicosis with a tilt a whirl suplex. Eddy back drops Juvy to the floor and follows and Psicosis dives onto them. Back in the ring Psicosis with a sit out gordsbuster for 2. Psicosis misses a corner charge and Juvy comes in the ring and hits a super rana. Eddy kicks out at 2 and hits a tilt a whirl back breaker. Juvy goes to the floor and Eddy goes back to Psicosis hitting a brain buster. Juvy breaks up the pin with a leg drop from the top. Juvy with a pump handle sit out face buster but Eddy breaks up the pin. Psicosis comes back on Eddy but Juvy quickly cuts him off. Juvy comes off the top with a missile drop kick and all three men are down in the ring. Things slow down a bit as it turns more into a fight then a wrestling match. Eddy gets double suplexed to the floor from the ring. Juvy misses a corner charge. Eddy gets bent over in the ring and Juvy and Psicosis go to drop kick each side of his head but Eddy moves. All three men end up on the top rope and Juvy hits Eddy with a superplex. The champ comes off the top with a leg drop to both men. He gets a 2 count on everybody. Juvy with a wheel barrel bulldog and he gets a 2 on both men. Juvy with a tilt a whirl DDT but Eddy breaks up the pin at 2. Eddy suplexes Juvy to the outside. Psicosis with a power bomb and then he goes for a super rana. Eddy blocks it and Psicosis crashes to the mat. Eddy with a frog splash for the win and title in 12.45. Eddy gets on the mic and talks about how his life has been terrible recently but tonight starts his comeback. Jerry Lynn makes a surprise appearance fresh off his stint in the WWF. Lynn says he bets Eddy got all his breaks in the business because of his name. Lynn says the people are here to be entertained not listen to his bitching. Eddy nails Lynn but then turns his back and gets attacked. Eddy though takes control and they fight to the floor. Back in the ring though Lynn nails Eddy with the belt and hits a spike piledriver on it.

Larry Zybysko arrives to the arena. More dancing.

Devon Storm vs. Sabu (w/ Bill Alfonso)
Back and forth to start. Storm hits a german and Sabu comes back with a springboard leg lariat. Sabu with a rana that sends both men over the top rope to the floor. Storm tries to suplex Sabu off the ring steps into the ring but fucks it up. Sabu now tries to fly out of the ring and lands on his head. It looked sick. Sabu is bleeding. In the ring Storm with a head scissor off the the middle rope. Storm with a northern lights for 2. Storm with a splash and lionsault for 2. Sabu goes to the floor and then they brawl. Storm mess up a power bomb through a table. Sabu throws a chair and Storm and then hits air Sabu as we cross 10 minutes. Triple jump moonsault but Sabu can’t make the cover. Sabu goes for it again but Storm trips up Sabu and he goes face first into the chair. Storm with a DVD onto the chair but Sabu kicks out. Sabu now slammed onto the chair. Storm goes from the apron back into the ring with a somersault leg drop onto Sabu. Back to the floor they go. Storm with a splash off the apron onto the floor. Storm twice drops Sabu jaw first onto the guardrail. Storm sets up two chairs in the ring and goes to power bomb Sabu through them. They try twice and Sabu is supposed to reverse but the keep messing it up. Sabu ends up suplexing Storm through the chairs. Sabu follows that with an arabian face buster but then goes up top. Storm throws a chair at Sabu and he falls to the floor. DDT on the floor by Storm. Sabu then puts Storm on the table which is angled on the guardrail. Sabu goes for a triple jump but misses and missiles himself though the table. Storm hits the sit out gordsbuster but Sabu kicks out. Storm goes up top and hits a big splash but again only gets 2. Sabu irish whipped but he hits a drop kick and goes up top. Storm follows him and goes for a super belly to back but Sabu lands on Storm for a 2. Sabu again goes up top but Storm follows him. Sabu pushes him down and goes for a sunset flip. Storm drops down and has the cover but Alfonso pulls the ref out of the ring. Storm goes after Alfonso and Sabu hits him with a baseball slide. Sabu with two chair shots on Storm and the arabian press for 2. Sabu with a waist lock on Storm and Alfonso tries to nail him with a chair but Storm moves and Sabu gets nailed. Storm with a roll up and he gets the win in 20.37. Sabu attacks Storm as he walks up the entrance ramp. They set up a table and Sabu climbs the tron and dives off with a leg drop through the table. Fun match with a surprise outcome.

Lodi and Lenny do some very stupid “gay” skit.

Mark Madden is in the ring and he brings out Larry Z. Larry challenges Vince McMahon to a fight. He rants about how 20 years ago Vince screwed him. Larry calls the TALLER Chris Jericho to short to be a superstar and Living Legend.

Lenny & Lodi vs. Rick Steiner & Ernest Miller, ref Mark Johnson
Miller says if the lose he will kiss Madden’s fat ass. Steiner hammers Lenny then tags Miller who lands a kick and gets the win in .57. Miller goes after Madden. Bully.

Champion Jeff Jarrett vs. Brian Christopher
Christopher says he is there to dance and kick Jarrett’s ass. Jeff with some hip tosses to start. Christopher sends Jeff to the floor with a clothesline and then hits a baseball slide. Back in the ring Christopher comes off the second rope with a drop kick. Sunset flip gets 2. Neckbreaker for another 2. They go to the outside and fight into the crowd. Back at ringside Jeff is sent face first into the ring steps. Christopher goes for a corner charge but misses. Cross body from the top by Jeff but Christopher rolls through and gets a 2. Jeff locks in a sleeper. Christopher fades but then fights out and locks in one of his own. Jeff quickly goes for a belly to back but Christopher flips out of hit and hits a super kick and then an enziguri for 2. Christopher goes to the second rope and hits a tornado DDT but Jeff gets his foot on the rope at 2. Jeff goes to the apron and Christopher sunset flip power bombs him on the floor. Jeff grabs a chair but the ref pulls it away. Brian goes for a super kick but Jeff moves and it hits the ref. Christopher now gets the chair and uses it. Christopher goes up top and hits a leg drop a new ref comes in and makes a 2 count but the original ref is up and pulls him out of the ring. They argue and Jeff nails Christopher with the guitar. The original ref makes a 2 count but gets pulled out off the ring. Borash tells us they are out of time as the refs now fight in the ring. Jeff gets the belt but misses and Christopher goes for a piledriver on it. Jeff goes low hits the stroke on the belt and gets the pin in 13.18. Since when do refs stop each other from making a three count? What the fuck was that finish.

Highlight package of the PPV closes things out.

My thoughts on the show…
The two cruiserweight matches were good as was the Sabu/Storm match. The midget match I also liked but the commentators really killed it. A really stupid finish to the main event ruined what was otherwise a decent enough match. Overall a much better show than the first one.

The “OH MY GOD!” Review: MXPW “Maximum Impact” TV For August – November 2004

Maximum Impact 2004-08-06 (Matches taped 2004-06-25 from War Memorial in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla)

Heavyweight: Vacant
TV Champion: “Black Nature Boy” Scoot Andrews
Tag Team: Joey Machete & Shawn Murphy

Ryan O’Reilly vs. Mr Bad Wrench, ref Chuck Hart
Lots of editing here as we briefly see parts of the intros and then are right into the match. The commentary doesn’t come in for about 30 seconds of the match. Bad Wrench wins the award for stupidest name ever. Bad Wrench with early control. O’Reilly comes back and hits the river dance elbow drop for 2. O’Reilly moves on a corner charge and hits a big boot. He takes forever going up top but is still able to land a head butt for the win. 3.52 is shown if I had to guess very little was cut from the beginning.

Dennis Knight is talking to the Blackharts about their cage match coming up later tonight. Knight has the Blackharts locked up in a cage. He says he is going to get the Blackharts ready but they will have to go back into the crate soon.

We see all the finishes from the tournament matches. Bruiser Bradley beating Apolo is not shown so I guess they are officially saying his match with Vampire Warrior was the tournament match.

Norman Smiley says that tonight he is going to get serious and he will do whatever he has to do so he can win the title.

Norman Smiley vs. Chaz, ref Mickie Jay
The commentators tell us that Norman attacked Chaz when Connie Cabral was trying to get words with Chaz smashing his head into a vending machine. They however do NOT show us this! Chaz slowly makes his entrance to the ring holding his ribs. Norman attacks Chaz as soon as he gets in the ring and we get the bell. Smiley goes right after the taped ribs of Chaz. After six minutes of Norman working over the ribs Chaz makes a comeback. Norman though cuts it off and hits a slam and then goes to take off the turnbuckle. The ref tries to stop him Chaz charges and goes for the butt bump but the ref gets pulled in the way. Chaz hits the thingy on Norman but no ref to make the count. Norman pulls out a chain from his tights and gets the three count in 7.25 to become the new MXPW Champion.

New Jack and Hack Meyers cut a promo about the cage match coming up.

Mark Nulty is backstage with Norman Smiley. Smiley says this a very tough tournament but he is happy to come out the winner.

We see highlights off the feud between New Jack and Hack and Blackharts as we prepare for our main event.

Cage Match: New Jack & Hack “Dog” Myers vs. Blackharts (w/ Dennis Knight), ref Bruce Michaels & Chuck Hart
Michaels is in the ring Warren is out. Knight heads to the commentators table. After about 6 minutes of the fight Warlord comes down. Warlord slams the refs head into the cage and then opens the door. Mark Nulty freaks out screaming about how he ripped open the door but it was locked and he really just opened it like a normal person. Warlord picks up a chair and goes after Meyers and Jack. They still want to know how the door got open. Apolo comes down and and now all six men brawl. Hack with a bulldog Jack comes of the top with the 187 for the win in 8.11. Dennis Knight hops in the ring to help his guys out. They continue the beat down for a few minutes and then leave.

Mark Nulty stops Dennis Knight and his guys backstage for a word. Nulty still wants to know how to open an unlocked door. Knight says finally something exciting is happening in MXPW, I couldn’t agree more. Knight says if anyone else wants some they won’t be hard to find.

My thoughts on the show…
Well the Norman heel turn was a nice change of pace sadly we didn’t actually get to see it and the match was painfully bad. The cage match was a fun brawl and I do like the pairing of Knight, Warlord and the Blackharts. Knight has been good on the mic and when he is in the commentators booth.

Maximum Impact 2004-08-13 (Matches taped 2004-08-03 from St. Lucie County Civic Center in Ft. Pierce, Fla)

Heavyweight: Norman Smiley
TV Champion: “Black Nature Boy” Scoot Andrews

Kahagas vs. Johnny Vandal
Kahagas misses a corner charge and Vandal brings him down with a neck breaker for 2. Vandal charges but gets caught in a head and arm snap suplex for 2. Kahagas with a bunch of strikes and he takes down Vandal. Kahagas goes for the inverted suplex cutter but Vandal lands on his feet and hits a rocker dropper. Vandal goes up top but Tag Team Champions Joey Machete and Shawn Murphy show up and attack him. The three men beat on Vandal causing a DQ in 3.47. Crowd was hot for this beat down.

Chaz is backstage and he’s mad and locking for Champion Norman Smiley.

Nulty is backstage and he is with Alex Porteau. Porteau plans on starting at the top of MXPW. He doesn’t know who it is but whoever it is he will take them out.

Aaron Epic vs. Alex Porteau, ref Mickie Jay
After some back forth Epic hits a nice cross body for 2. Epic misses a corner charge and Porteau rolls him up with a school boy to get the victory in 2.54. Porteau had some trouble with the much smaller Epic in this short match.

Nulty is with Steve Madison for a new segment called “One on One with Nulty”. Madison talks about his recovery process as Nulty awkwardly rocks back and forth in his chair.

Casey Thompson is in the ring with Nulty and he has stripped “Black Nature Boy” Scoot Andrews of the TV Title and a new champion will be crowned in a 4 way match featuring Bruiser Bradley, Lex Lovett, Kahagas and 4th yet to be named wrestler.

Mr. Education vs. Sniper
Chaz comes to the commentators table and he is still looking for Norman Smiley. Chaz hits the ring and nails the thingy on Sniper and burning hammer on Mr. Education. No contest at about .40.

Sean Allen, Doc Rivers & Preston James vs. Dennis Knight, Warlord & Blackhart, ref Chuck Hart
Dennis Knight on the mic before the match he runs down the fans and the locker room. Knight says they are going to take apart the locker room. Blackhart starts out with Sean Allen. Blackhart quickly tags out to Knight. Allen backs Knight into the corner and tags James. Knight though with a back breaker and tag to Warlord. Gutwrench power bomb followed by a clothesline for 2. Warlord tags Blackhart and James tags Rivers. The other Blackhart comes down to ringside. Tag to Knight and he hits a neck breaker for 2. The Family have Rivers in the corner and go to work behind the refs back. Warlord and Knight hit a double suplex. Meanwhile The Blackhart on the floor pulls his partner down and throws him into the ring post behind their backs. Knight tags him but then the Blackhart bulldogs him. Rivers covers and gets the win in 5.56. The Blackhart rips off his mask revealing himself to be Hack Meyers! Knight gets the mic and he is not happy.

The Family is backstage and Knight talks about how they ran New Jack and Apolo out of MXPW and they are going to do the same to Hack Meyers.

Nulty and Denucci run down what we saw tonight and they talk about next weeks show which will feature the TV Title match.

My thoughts on the show…
Total pass here the only thing that was of any importance was the ending of the 6 man match but it’s not actually worth watching.

Maximum Impact 2004-10-30 (Matches taped 2004-08-03 from St. Lucie County Civic Center in Ft. Pierce, Fla)

Heavyweight: Norman Smiley
TV Champion: Vacant
Tag Team: Joey Machete & Shawn Murphy

MXPW was off the air for two and half months at this point. I can’t find any information online that explains any reason for this. It also appears that they weren’t running any live events either.

Mark Nulty and Vito Dennuci are sitting in the arena and Hack Meyers shows up. Hack says he is a little down right now. Nulty points out that New Jack and Apolo are both gone from MXPW. Hack says he has to worry about himself and he needs to find someone who is willing watch his back. Nulty wants to know if he can do it alone. Hack says he can take care of business and he’s coming to get the family.

Nick Narcissistic vs. Alex Porteau, ref Mickie Jay
Nick misses a spinning heel kick and Porteau attacks landing a couple of real stiff shots. Porteau throws Nick to the flow and Nick looks pissed. Back in the ring Porteau hits a power bomb and then drives his forearm across the face of Nick while he pins him. Porteau stomps Nick, Nick gets right back up and they stare each other down. Really strange match as Porteau just seemed to shoot on Nick for no reason. Clearly two guys that didn’t want to do business with each other for some reason. Match ran 2.35.

Mark Nulty is back stage with Tag Team Champions Joey Machete and Shawn Murphy with their manager. Nulty asks them about their attack from last week. Machete says they are as violent as ever because that’s how Nicki wants them. Well we finally have a name for their manager.

Nulty is with Preston James and James is looking to win the TV Title tonight in the 4 way match. James ends up by saying “Win, lose or draw I’m going out the champion”. Well no the only way you are coming out champion is if you win.

“Syco” Sean Allen vs. Bobby Hopkins, ref Chuck Hart
Allen with the early advantage, he hits a shitty side slam. Hopkins comes back with a suplex he misses a corner charge. Allen then misses one of his one. Hopkins hits a falling clothesline and gets the win in 3.05

Nulty is in the locker room with Phi Delta Slam as they prepare for their none title match with Joey Machete and Shawn Murphy. Bruno Sassi says they are going to take it to the champs and show that they deserve a title match.

Tag Team Champions Joey Machete & Shawn Murphy (w/ Nicki) vs. Phi Delta Slam
Brother Tilly starts off with Murphy. Tilly chases off Murphy and he bails to the floor to regroup. Machete and Bruno Sassi both tag in. Phi Delta Slam take over on Machete tagging in and out a few times. Murphy able to nail Sassi from behind allowing his team to gain control. Out come the Vandals to taunt Machete and Murphy. Sassi ducks a clothesline hits a flying forearm and both teams tag. Tilly sends Machete into the ropes and the Vandals trip him up. The two teams fight in the aisle and Phi Delta Slam get the victory by count out in 6.42.

Nulty is with Lex Lovett. Lovett says that he is going to win the TV Title tonight because he has all the qualities you think of when you think of Television. Good looks, charisma etc.

Bruiser Bradley vs. Kahagas vs. Preston James vs. Lex Lovett, ref Chuck Hart
Lovett with a float over DDT onto Bradley as James and Kahagas go at it on the floor. Lovett with some elbow that don’t take Bradley down and then Bradley hits him with a big clothesline and they go to the floor. Kahagas gets a 2 count off a northern lights on James. James misses a corner charge and Kahagas hits a shinning wizard. Lovett with a leg lariat on James for 2. Kahagas and James each go for a cross body and they crash together. Bradley misses a charge on Lovett on the floor and hits the ring post. James takes out Lovett and Kahagas. Bradley comes in and clotheslines everyone. Kahagas with a rana that takes he and Bradley over the top rope to the floor. Lovett comes off the turn buckle with a blockbuster on James and he covers and gets the win in 5.05.

Nulty and Dennuci wrap it up.

My thoughts on the show…
I would watch that opening match as it was a disaster and pretty interesting to see. I honestly would have wanted anyone in that TV Title Match to come out with the win besides Lovett. Kahagas has been on a roll his last few matches and Bradley is a big dude that can kick ass. They had always been hyping Lovett so I figured he was going to win but I just don’t like him.

Maximum Impact 2004-11-06 (Matches taped 2004-08-03 from St. Lucie County Civic Center in Ft. Pierce, Fla)

Heavyweight: Norman Smiley
TV Champion: Lex Lovett
Tag Team: Joey Machete & Shawn Murphy

We get a run down of the card which includes a TV Title match and Blackhart teaming with Dennis Knight against Hack Meyers and a partner of his choice.

Tag Team Champion Joey Machete (w/ Shawn Murphy & Nicki) vs. Tommy Vandal (w/ Ricky Vandal)
Before the match starts Casey Thompson comes down to the ring and orders Murphy and Ricky hand cuffed to separate ring posts and he kicks Nicki out to the back. A security guard is staying at ringside with the key. Thompson goes out of his way to say that no one will be getting the key. We’ll see how that goes. Machete with the advantage early on but Vandal comes back hitting a drop kick. Machete though sends Vandal hard into the corner to regain control. Tommy fights back and hits a running boot in the corner to a seated Machete. Joey bails and Nicki tries to come back down. The security guy cuts her off and doesn’t let her down the aisle. Machete gets back in the ring and is arm dragged over. Some how Nicki is now unlocking the handcuffs on Murphy. Murphy slides in the ring and he and Machete go to work on Tommy. Ricky is stuck watching his brother get beat down. Tommy wins by DQ in 6.10 but it doesn’t matter as he is left laying.

Bruiser Bradley vs. Bobby Hopkins, ref Mickie Jay
Two big dudes getting ready to brawl with each other here. Hopkins makes the mistake of turning his back and gets jumped on and they go to the floor. Bradley goes for a suplex but Hopkins blocks it and hits one of his own. Hopkins goes for a corner charge but misses Bradley with a falling clothesline puts his feet on the ropes and gets the 3 count in 2.58. Umm for real that was the same finish that Hopkins used last week minus the feet on the rope.

Mark Nulty is with TV Champion Lex Lovett and Lovett talks about how he has done things in wrestling and has credentials while his opponent Preston James has done nothing.

TV Champion Lex Lovett vs. Preston James, ref Chuck Hart
James fucks up a bump on an arm drag. Seriously is this your first fucking day. Lovett goes after the leg but James gets to the ropes. Snap suplex and Lex floats over into a front face lock. James rolls back through into a pin atempt and gets 2. James with a hip toss and arm drag and he goes for another arm drag but Lovett just moves him arm out of the way and James hits the mat all alone. James though back up and gets a 2 count off a suplex. Lovett with a jaw breaker and leg lariat. James comes back with a full nelson slam. James fires up with some clotheslines and a big powerslam for 2. James goes for another full nelson slam but Lovett fights out sends James to the ropes and hits a running block buster to get the win in 6.16.

Nulty is with Hack Meyers and Meyers says his mystery partner is going to help him take out the Family.

Hack “Dog” Myers & ??? vs. Warlord & Dennis Knight (wi/ Blackhart), ref Mickie Jay
So Dennis Knight subs out Blackhart and puts the Warlord in his place. Hack Meyers comes out and barks around the ring when we hear the familiar music of Chaz. Knight and Chaz start off. Chaz drop toe holds Knight onto the middle rope and then hits the boss man jump on the guy thing. Hack comes in and they double team but Knight gets to his corner. Knight tags Warlord. Warlord drops a big forearm to the back and body slam but then misses an elbow drop. Hack grabs the arm and tags Chaz. Chaz keeps working on the huge arm of Warlord and hits a butt bump in the corner. He goes for another one but Warlord catches him and turns it into a belly to back suplex. Knight tags in and he distracts the ref as Warlord and Blackhart choke Chaz on the ropes. Knight tags right back out to Warlord. Warlord and Knight stay on Chaz. Chaz is able to duck a clothesline from Knight and hit the thingy. Chaz able to tag Hack who comes in and hits a back drop on Knight. Ten punches gets a 2 count. Hack goes for a roll up near the ropes but Blackhart nails him with something and Knight gets the pin in 7.22. The Family puts on a beat down after the match but Chaz and Hack are able to fight them off. Hack gets on the mic and challenges Knight to a lumber jack match next week. Knight says yes but it will not be him in the match but Blackhart instead.

My thoughts on the show…
Three fairly decent matches on todays show. The main event was pretty basic but didn’t suck and furthered the story line. This one may actually be worth checking out.

Unfortunately (?), this would be the last episode of MXPW Maximum Impact. So we would never see where the Hack Meyers and The Family feud would take us or if the Vandals would ever be successful in wrestling away the Tag Team Title from the team of Joey Machete and Shawn Murphy. MXPW seems to have stopped running live shows from when this was taped in August of 2004 until August of the following year. Based on the very limited results I can find they seem to drop all but the Heavyweight Title. Chaz would win the title from Norman Smiley on August 6, 2005 in a lumberjack match in what appears to be MXPW’s return show.

UFC Fight Night Krakow Results 4/11/15

UFC Fight Night Krakow is in the books, and this lull in the UFC’s stacked 2015 provided a fair share of shocking moments. The Polish crowd did not leave disappointed.

Legend Mirko Cro Cop stunned the Krakow, Poland crowd by finishing longtime rival Gabriel Gonzaga in the third round. Gonzaga had made a name off of Cro Cop eight years ago, by finishing the Croatian with his own signature head kick. When UFC signed Cro Cop from under Bellator, the match was a natural to make.

Gonzaga controlled the early rounds with his overwhelming grappling, handling the older CroCop with ease. Halfway through the third, CroCop landed a huge inside shot that dropped Gonzaga, and proceeded to work from inside Gonzaga’s guard. Several elbows later, the referee stopped the fight, and an overjoyed crowd roared. After the bout, Cro Cop pledged that he would continue fighting.

Joanne Calderwood, the undefeated (in non-exhibition fights) #6-ranked women’s strawweight was on the receiving end of one of the biggest upsets of the year. Many had her pegged to defeat newcomer Maryna Moroz in a landslide, but Moroz had other plans. It took only 90 seconds for Moroz to lock on an armbar and submit Calderwood, likely catapulting her into the top 10 ranking.

Leon Edwards made a name for himself in only eight seconds on Saturday, as he knocked out Seth Baczynski with a straight right off of the bat. Baczynski is a veteran of 11 UFC fights, but may be on his way out after losing 5 of his last 6.

Lilian Garcia Suffers Injury, Requires Surgery, Drew Galloway Talks About Hesitating With TNA

0

– Raw ring announcer Lilian Garcia announced on Twitter via video that she tore the meniscus in her right knee and will be undergoing surgery today. Garcia set no timetable for her return to her duties for WWE, but that she plans to “rehab like crazy.”

– Raj Giri recently interviewed the former WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre, now Drew Galloway. During the interview he asked Galloway about signing with TNA and if the company had been on his radar.

“The truth is it absolutely had not,” Galloway said. “I was looking to not be on American TV so soon. I was on there not even 8 months prior. I was establishing myself and getting a following, traveling the world and making money. I came back to Scotland on a Sunday and TNA was doing a show on the British tour. I got three missed calls from a number I didn’t recognize and threw my phone away because I was sleeping. Finally Tommy Dreamer text me and said ‘You may want to answer your phone, TNA tried to call you.’ So I said, ‘yeah I’ll call back.’ I spoke to a couple of the bosses and was initially apprehensive, but as soon as I spoke to them I knew it was the right decision to make.

“The opportunity to be a part of something on Destination America, the network is so behind the show. It’s going to get bigger and bigger and bigger. The biggest thing for me it they were gonna let me be Drew, let me have a microphone and speak my mind. I could wrestle as myself and do my independent work that I’ve worked so hard on for the 8 months prior and that was really important to me. Things have just exploded and things are very exciting right now. I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

Galloway also discussed the changes the company has made, and is excited about the company continuing to evolve.

“I’m the biggest wrestling fan in the world, the biggest smart mark, the biggest geek,” Galloway admitted. “I’ve always been such a fan. Since the switch was made, a lot of changes have been made. A lot of cool camera angles, it looks very different. There’s obviously been a much bigger focus on the in-ring wrestling. Most wrestling fans aren’t excited to see a guy talking into a microphone, but that’s part of it, part of the character. I love wrestling, and that’s a big focus of the show. So many of the guys are talented in the ring and that was a deciding factor. For people that have been off the product — just give it a chance.

“[Tonight] for instance, the new group The Rising, a couple of guys that are joining me in Eli Drake and Myka (Haku’s son). They weren’t really given an opportunity and will be appearing on the show giving our mission statement, telling you what our plans are. Good matches that I won’t spoil for anyone, but we’ll be doing live tweeting during the show. It’s not a wrestling storyline, it’s a real thing. It’s really how I view it. We want to see what the fans want. Tweet your opinions and your views and it’ll show up this Friday. I’m not trying to be a leader, I’m just asking everyone to walk with me. If you want pro wrestling to grow or change, don’t put it on a message board. Tell me, tell TNA. We’re looking to make a difference. I’m fired up that they’re giving me this opportunity, so let’s make a change. I don’t want to sound gimmicky, but let’s stand up.”

WWE Outside Counsel Jerry McDevitt Comments On Latest Concussion Lawsuit

Source: TMZ

TMZ followed up on the latest lawsuit filed against WWE by speaking to the company’s long-time outside counsel, Jerry mcDevitt of Pittsburgh law firm K&L Gates. As noted earlier, Matt “Luther Reigns” Wiese, Ryan “Keiji” Sakoda, and “Big” Russ McCullough filed a new class action “concussion lawsuit” against the company today. While the bulk of the complaint is identical to other lawsuits spearheaded by Konstantine Kyros, a lawyer based out of Hingham, Massachusetts, the new suit was filed by Michael A. McShane and Jonas P. Mann of Audet & Partners in San Francisco.

McDevitt told TMZ that WWE is “being targeted by attorneys who tell them there’s hundreds of thousands of dollars they can make by joining a class action suit like this,” adding that “”We know these claims are fraudulent, and will fight them.” As for the specifics of the claim, he notes that “It’s sensational, but if you really look at…what was done specifically to them? There are almost no details as to what they actually suffered as a result of working with WWE.” He also told TMZ that no wrestlers contacted WWE about having neurological issues before filing lawsuits.

When it comes to the complaint, he’s not wrong. While the complaints so far generally have one or two more specific allegations per plaintiff, they’re largely vague on detailed allegations, with the bulk being the boilerplate text repeated across the various different complaints. None of it is close to the level of what forced the NFL to settle their major concussion class action suit, which was proof that they concealed research into the danger of repeated head trauma from players.

Spoilers: TNA Impact Results 4/10/15

TNA taped tonight’s episode of Impact Wrestling last month in Orlando. Thanks to Erin, below are results:

* Kurt Angle opened the show and called out Bobby Lashley. They talked about Lashley’s shoulder being up in last week’s main event and show a replay. Angle is a fighting champion and says he will give Lashley another shot. Eric Young comes out and isn’t happy because he’s the #1 contender. Young demands a title shot but Lashley tells him to shut up. They start brawling and Lashley accidentally spears Angle. Young laughs at them and leaves. Angle challenges them both to a three-way tonight for the title.

* The Revolution comes out, minus Sanada, as James Storm said we’ll never see him again. Storm cut a long promo and says he will be in the tag team tournament. His partner will be determined by a match.

* Khoya defeated Manik and Abyss in a three-way to be Storm’s partner for the tournament.

* Drew McIntyre comes out with Shaun Ricker and Camacho, The Rising. Ricker is now known as Eli Drake and Camacho is now being called Meka or Mika. Drew says they all three have something to prove and they’re here to go to war with The BDC. The BDC interrupts and a brawl breaks out. The crowd was into it and a six-man is made for later.

* The Rising defeated The BDC by DQ when a masked man ran out and attacked Galloway. It was Homicide, who is now with The BDC. They beatdown The Rising and posed over them.

* Davey Richards defeated DJ Zema Ion.

* Kurt Angle retained the World Heavyweight Title over Lashley and Eric Young in a great match. After the match, Young attacked Lashley with a steel chair and put him in a Figure Four. Young was finally pulled away as referees checked on Lashley.

More Details On Three Former WWE Talents Suing The Company, Wrestler Alleges ‘Code Of Silence’

0

WWE talents Ryan Sakoda, Luther Reigns and Russ McCullough have filed a lawsuit against WWE in California, where all three of them reside. The 47 page lawsuit is almost word for word the same lawsuit filed by other former WWE talents recently.

Sakoda claims he and other talents were “forced to wrestle injured or you lost your job” and that WWE did not discuss or treat concussions. Sakoda alleges that WWE is operated by “intimidation and abuse” and that WWE disregarded his health and safety to the point that it left him traumatized. Sakoda says he suffered a concussion after taking a superkick in 2013 but WWE medical staff just told him not to go to sleep or he might die. Sakoda claims he suffers from numerous symptoms including memory loss, severe depression, severe migraines and headaches.

McCullough claims he was knocked unconscious during a WWE event in Cincinnati, Ohio and was then beat with 15 chairshots without WWE trainers intervening. McCullough claims WWE stated “not our problem” when he reported the issue. McCullough claims he’s still suffering from numerous symptoms including severe depression, severe migraines, memory loss, headaches and panic attacks that have resulted in over 40 emergency room visits since he retired from the ring.

Reigns is alleging that there was a “code of silence” in WWE regarding head injuries and he suffered numerous concussions/injuries that went untreated. Reigns claims he was once knocked out by Big Show and even though he vomited afterwards, he was not provided any kind of treatment. The suit notes that Reigns suffered a stroke in the past and suffers from post-concussion symptoms today including severe fatigue, dizziness and severe short term and long term memory loss. The suit says Reigns is unable to remember much of his life.

WWE has not yet responded to the lawsuit.

CM Punk On Pro Wrestlers Moving To MMA: ‘Half Of Them Talk About It; None Of Them Do It’

0

Source: Sports Illustrated

Sports Illustrated posted an interview that Jeff Wertheim conducted with CM Punk about his ongoing transition from pro wrestling to mixed martial arts since signing with the UFC. While similar in structure to some of the other interviews he’s given, Wertheim’s questions and Punk being further along in training keep it from being redundant.

In spite of Punk’s history of frustration with fans referring to him by his real name (Phil Brooks), he’s noticeably coming around, if just due to the change. When Wertheim asked which name to call him, Punk was fine either way:

“Either one. You can call me Phil. I answer to both. I don’t really care either way. At the end of the day, Tiger Williams’ real name isn’t Tiger.”

When asked about started as a “blank slate” who has the money to be able to train full-time (instead of splitting tim with a day job like most prospective and journeyman fighters), Punk made it clear that he sees his position as a major positive:

“I’m in a great place! Isn’t that a great place to be? The real tough sons of b—–s are the guys who train as hard as I do and then have to go to their nine-to-five job. I’m fortunate enough to do this as a full-time job. So I get to train two or three times a day. Things are going to be okay for me.”

That’s not the only time he uses the word “job” to describe his current training, as he says this after Wertheim compares Punk’s current lifestyle, even if he did have fights booked every few months, to the full time WWE wrestler lifestyle:

“Just training. What an easy job, right? It’s way better for me. I was burnt out on traveling, so over it. People think I’m crazy, living in Chicago and driving to Milwaukee every day to train. That’s the easiest thing in the world! Ninety minutes from my front door and I can be in my own bed every night? It’s a different lifestyle and it’s done me wonders. Amazing. I love it.”

While he’s most likely just using it as a figure of speech to compare his current lifestyle to what his life was like as a full-time pro wrestler on the road with WWE, it’s a bit of an odd choice since fighters generally aren’t paid to train. As for his old job, more than 14 months after he stopped wrestling, he still seems frustrated with how his career went when asked what made him a good pro wrestler:

“Well, that’s another thing in that phony world. What does it mean to be a good fake wrestler? That’s an identity crisis that I think I struggled with. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best; someone else picks who they want in the top spot.”

That’s in the past, but when asked why more of his former peers haven’t made the move, he doesn’t mince words:

“I am, too. I’ve always been surrounded by guys who talked about it. Half of them talk about it; none of them do it. They have their little comfortable safety net doing WWE stuff, I guess. I would much rather give it a shot than just talk about it.”

The whole interview is worth reading, including more MMA-centric talk like how he dealt with walking teammate Anthony Pettis to the cage for his UFC Lightweight Title loss to Rafael dos Anjos last month at UFC 185.
