Lanny Poffo On Family Reaction To WWE Finally Inducting Randy Savage, Damien Sandow, More

0

Lanny Poffo recently appeared on Under The Mat Radio to discuss his brother “Macho Man” Randy Savage being in the WWE Hall of Fame, his favorite Hall of Fame speech, CM Punk, John Cena and more. The full interview can be found at this link. Below are highlights:

How he got the call for Randy Savage to go into the WWE Hall of Fame:

“I kind of knew about for over a year that Randy was going to go in… then when they (WWE) actually officially released that they were going to induct him (Savage), I wasn’t sure if I was going to be the one to induct him. Everybody was saying that Hogan was going to be the one to induct him, but I just thought I’d be common sense for it to be me.”

How his family feels that Randy finally got inducted:

“Well I can tell you how I felt, I felt relived because we are not going to punish the fans anymore. Now the fans are going to have to find something else to be punished about. I feel relieved, like a big burden has been lifted and I’m glad that the speech was well received.”

Who he loved to work with the most during his time with WWE (WWF then):

“I’d have to say as Leaping Lanny, I loved to work against Terry Funk and Bob Orton Jr. I would look better losing to those two guys than if I would beat Barry Horowitz. Now I’d say when I was a villain my best match ever was against Hulk Hogan.

Damien Sandow:

“Talking to the younger talent, they were very receptive to me. I really enjoyed everybody, particularly Damien Sandow. What a nice person he is. People think he stole my gimmick, he did not. I stole my gimmick from many of people, and besides Bobby Heenan never got mad because he was The Brain, and then I came and I was the Genius. He never raised an issue.”

The Cauliflower Alley Club is a non-profit fraternal organization, comprising of both retired and active professional wrestlers and boxers in North America.

In his wrestling career Blair is known mostly for his run as 1/2 of the WWF tag team The Killer Bees alongside his partner, Jumpin’ Jim Brunzell, but his career not only as an amateur but as a singles talent hardly define who Blair was as an overall performer. The energy level is high, the stories are fantastic and The Two Man Power Trip is buzzing over the appearance of B. Brian Blair.

In the following clip, Blair discusses wrestling the Hart Foundation and their long standing tag team title feud:

The 2015 Cauliflower Alley Club Convention is Las Vegas:

There’s all kind of stuff going on at CAC. It’s like the who’s who, everyone is going to be there including some surprise guests. We’ve sold out and it will be the most people to ever attend the event this year. Promoters, wrestlers it will be so packed and jammed up to see all of the newest talent on the Indy scene. There will be people from the WWE, seminars, signings, and nostalgia. The Demolition will receive the first ever Tag Team Championship Award and Larry the Axe Hennig will be receiving the coveted Lou These Award.

Jack and Gerry Briscos influence on Blairs Career:

When I was young, I was following Jack Brisco through the aisles of a shopping center around Christmas time. I followed him from aisle to aisle and when he found out I was following him all of a sudden as I turned to see where he was, he snuck up behind me and said BOO and scared me so bad but we got to be great friends. As a kid we were very poor and my parents were divorced and I had a lot of press about my athleticism, I was very blessed to be an athlete and have a dream and a desire but those guys (Jack and Jerry Brisco) brought me up and said you can be what you want to be and I became a Killer Bee (laughs).

Teaming with Jumpin Jim Brunzell as part of the Killer Bees tag team:

I am more proud of my singles career then I am the Killer Bee run, which was a great run because I love Jumpin Jim. Jim was a great partner and we still do things together. We were on the road together for five years and never got into one argument so that’s pretty strong. Jim was a Minnesota State High Jump champion and a great athlete, so we had a lot of fun.

Leaving the WWF after not receiving a promised Tag Team Championship run:

I quit Vince at WrestleMania 5 after he had told us we were going to win the titles on three different occasions. Vince said it once and the late great George Scott said it to us twice. We saw the writing on the wall with all of the tag teams coming in at that time and I decided I wanted to be a business man and I was just beat up plus I wanted to spend some time with my wife.

Vince McMahon finding out about a proposed Wrestlers Union in the 1980s:

Vince found out that Jimmy, Jesse Ventura and a few other guys were discussing starting a union. So Vince decided to give everyone a two-week vacation. For some reason Vince never forgot about that and I think it cost us the WWF Tag Team Championships for sure but looking back on it, I’ve had lot of titles and so has Jimmy so even though they are prestigious belts in my heart I feel like I did what I needed to do because every single night I worked as hard as I could for every fan that sacrificed their dollars to watch us perform. Whether it was 100 people of 5,000 people I performed to the best of my ability and always wanted to give the fans their money’s worth. B. Brian Blair also discusses his time in Championship Wrestling from Florida, road stories with Andre The Giant and Dusty Rhodes, The WWF Tag Team Scene in the 1980s, Masked Confusion and more about the CAC.

Besides the Twitter drama with former Too Cool partner Scotty 2 Hotty, there was another issue surrounding Rikishi’s WWE Hall of Fame induction as his former partner and cousin Samu wasn’t invited for whatever reason.

Afa wasn’t happy about this because that’s his son and Roman Reigns’ father Sika was also mad about Samu not being invited. WWE then invited Samu to try and keep everything cool but everyone was already in a testy mood and this was before they got upset over Reigns not winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 31.

Backstage News On AJ Lee’s WWE Retirement

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Regarding AJ Lee retiring from WWE, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that those close to the situation say the fallout from WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann filing a lawsuit against her husband CM Punk led to the decision to leave the company.

AJ likely had to call her departure a retirement to get out of the rest of her WWE contract. By retiring, she would have forfeited the chance to perform anywhere else in pro wrestling or other sports, at least for the remainder of the contract.

Internal Reaction To Roman Reigns Losing, Did Brock Know About Rollins Cashing In?, More

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

New details are coming out from WrestleMania 31 Week and Brock Lesnar reportedly knew about Seth Rollins winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title when he signed his new contract earlier that week. Lesnar, Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns were working closely together throughout the build-up of the match so Reigns may have known a few days in advance also, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It was previously reported that none of the Superstars found out about Rollins winning until WrestleMania had already started.

Regarding Reigns not winning the title, many WWE talents have been really defensive of Reigns and there has been some bitterness against the vocal fans who really ended up forcing the change in plans. Even those within WWE who aren’t knocking the vocal fans are still being very defensive of Reigns.

The internal reaction to Reigns losing is almost the opposite reaction talents had to Batista last year when fans forced plans to change at WrestleMania XXX. The feeling this year was the company spent a year building Reigns up and then the vocal fans put Reigns’ big climax in jeopardy, eventually costing him the title and the important moment in his career.

Plans For WrestleMania 32 Involving The Rock, Ronda Rousey, Recent Trademarks

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– WWE is now looking at doing Triple H vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 32 next year. This would go along with the Stephanie McMahon vs. Ronda Rousey singles match, if they are able to work it out with UFC. The SmackDown angle between The Rock and Triple H they did in 2014 was done with the idea that the two rivals would face each other at either WrestleMania 31 or 32. The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar had been rumored for WrestleMania 32 but it looks like WWE has nixed that idea.

– As noted, WWE wants to do Stephanie McMahon vs. Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 32 next year but there are many factors that could keep it from happening due to Rousey being signed to UFC. Their encounter at WrestleMania 31 was supposed to be the first angle to build to that singles match and WWE did not have Rousey use her signature armbar on Stephanie because they want that to be the money spot at WrestleMania 32.

– WWE recently applied to trademark the term “Superfriends Crew,” which could be the name of a new stable. They also applied to trademark New Face of Fear for Bray Wyatt, Halloween Havoc, StarCade, Lone Wolf for Baron Corbin, The Vigilante for Sting, WWE Nation, Anti-Diva for Paige, Athletic Diva and The Beast Within, apparently for Brock Lesnar.

– Dario Cueto is in his office with Konnan and Prince Puma. He tells Puma to find two partners for the Trios tournament. He announces Cuerno will be his opponent tonight, and will be one of the member of the opposing team, too. Tonight’s match will also be for the Lucha Underground World Title.

Trios Championship Tournament
Son of Havoc, Ivelisse & Angelico vs. Drago, Aerostar & Fenix

Fenix immediately drops Angelico with a big kick and Ivelisse makes the blind tag. Fenix refuses to hit her, and Angelico tags back in but gets kicked by Drago, who hits a springboard tornado DDT. Aerostar hits an awesome splash on the top of Fenix’s shoulders, who is on the top rope. He tries to pin, but his rival Drago pulls him off, as he wants the glory. This lets Aerostar get hit from behind.

Havoc tags himself in and has control, landing a standing star press. He goes and talks trash to Ivelisse, who tags herself in. Angelico gets back in shortly thereafter but is on the receiving end of a DDT and a dive by Drago. Angelico gets out of the way of a second one and causes Drago and Aerostar to collide. Ivelisse hits the third DDT of the match, and one by one, people start diving outside. Finally, Ivelisse hits one to the outside and all hell breaks loose. Havoc is getting double teamed and goes to tag Ivelisse, but she leaves him high and dry. Aerostar and Drago start arguing and slapping each other. Havoc takes advantage and hits a Shooting Star Press on Drago for the win.

Winners: Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angelico via pinfall (Shooting Star Press)

I’m not sure what the WWE was looking for that they didn’t see in Ivelisse, but she has about every tool you could ask for.

– Konnan is in the gym with Prince Puma and says he wants Hernandez to be on their trios team, so they need to find one more guy. Johnny Mundo shows up and says he’s the third guy. Konnan isn’t happy.

Cueto comes out of his office and says that even though Star and Super Fly are friends, he wants them to go at it. To make sure they do, he’s made this a mask vs. mask match!

Mask vs. Mask match
Sexy Star vs. Super Fly’

The two trade reversals, and reach a stalemate. Super Fly strikes first with a couple of big kicks and an elbow. Star ducks a clothesline and hits a sitout facebuster to gain control of the match. Star drags Super Fly all around the ring by her hair, but Super Fly smacks her, dropping her to the ground. Star comes back with a flying headscissors, and follows up with a huge dive outside to the floor as the crowd chants.

Star hits several strikes to Super Fly and rolls him back inside, where she lands a sloppy Codebreaker. The two trade shots until Star hits a DDT for 2. Super Fly hits a powerbomb and misses a moonsault, which allows Star to pin him with a la magistral.

Winner: Sexy Star via pinfall (la magistral)

– Super Fly gets on his knees and has Star unmask him. Pentagon Jr comes out and kicks star, then hits the package piledriver on Super Fly, then breaks his arm.

Lucha Underground World Title
Prince Puma (c) (w/ Konnan) vs. King Cuerno (w/ Cage & Texano)

Cage & Texano join Cuerno, so there’s one of your trios teams. Cuerno goes to work on the arm of Puma. He gets bounced outside and Puma tries to dive on all three but he gets caught and fed to Cuerno for a neckbreaker. Hernandez and Mundo come to make the save, but Texano keeps them at bay with his bullrope. Vampiro hilariously buries Konnan on commentary as Texano and Cage help Cuerno cheat in the corner. Puma gets a second win and takes it to Cuerno with clotheslines and kicks before being sent outside and hit with a huge dive.

Johnny Mundo hits a big dive that sees him somersault kick Texano in the head and land on Cuerno. Cage and Hernandez square off but nothing comes from it. Back inside the ring Cuerno lands a big spinning blue thunder bomb that gets two. A brainbuster can’t finish it either. Hernandez distracts the ref, and Puma isn’t happy with it. He lands the 630 anyway for the pinfall.

Winner: Prince Puma via pinfall (630) to retain the Lucha Underground World Title

Puma isn’t happy about Hernandez helping. Cage attacks them from behind, and all hell breaks loose to end the show.
