Huge Update On Sting’s WWE Return

0

Source: F4WOnline

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, former WCW Champion Sting is set to appear at WWE Summerslam. This comes on the heels of news that The Undertaker is set to return as well.

Meltzer said that Sting’s return has been a plan for a while, and isn’t due to the ratings dropping. In addition to this, it was noted that it won’t be a surprise appearance at the event, and that it’ll be built up over several weeks. Apparently WWE had a plan set for Sting’s return, but those plans changed due to an undisclosed injury to one of the parties involved, and a new plan was made.

Sting was last seen at WrestleMania, when he made his WWE in-ring debut in a losing effort against Triple H. It is now expected that he’ll also be participating in next year’s WrestleMania.

The Undertaker is scheduled to return to WWE TV next week to start building to a match at the August SummerSlam pay-per-view, according to PWInsider.

Backstage News On A Longtime WWE Employee Getting Fired And What Deal She Recently Lost

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

We noted before that Lisa Lee Fox was fired by WWE from her job as Executive Vice President of Content. She had worked with WWE since 1995 and most recently headed up the WWE writing team, reporting directly to Triple H and Vince McMahon. She also was one of the officials in charge of the WWE Network and TV content.

It’s not confirmed that this is why she was fired but Lisa had recently been the point person for WWE’s bid on the old Paul Boesch Houston Wrestling tape library. It turns out that NWA’s Bruce Tharpe made the winning bid and got the library instead of WWE. This led to the NWA starting their own streaming service with many matches featuring WWE Legends.

While the NWA’s streaming service obviously won’t directly compete with the WWE Network, WWE did not want a similar service started by another wrestling company that features big name matches.

Kurt Angle Rushed To The Hospital By His Wife, Undergoes Surgery

0

Kurt Angle’s reps announced on Twitter that Angle was rushed to the hospital by his wife yesterday after he lost feeling in his extremities and was having trouble breathing. Doctors found that Angle had a large build-up of fluid on his spinal card, a complication from having the benign tumor removed from his neck last week. Angle underwent surgery to relieve the pressure and will be missing a London Comic Con appearance this weekend.

Angle’s management did note that he is feeling well. No word yet if he will be able to wrestle at next week’s TNA Impact Wrestling tapings. They tweeted the following:

“Friends and Fan this is a message from Mr Angles Management. Yesterday while Mr Angle was preparing for his travel to the UK for Comic Con. he was experiencing sever pain, he lost feeling in his extremities, and starting to have some difficulty breathing. His wife, Giovanni, very concerned rushed him to the hospital, where doctors informed Kurt that his symptoms were the result of his recent surgery that left a large buildup of fluid on his spinal cord. Since the condition could be fatal, they immediately underwent emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his spine. The surgery went well and doctors believe he will have a full recovery. Kurt apologies to his friends and fans that He will not be appearing at Comic Con in London this weekend as hoped. Kurt is doing well and we will keep you posted on his progress.”

Update On TNA Possibly Leaving Destination America This September

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

It appears there may be more to the rumors of TNA possibly leaving Destination America this September after all.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that privately, at least some TNA talents have been given an indication that the company will be looking for a new TV deal and that the money they make from overseas TV deals will keep them going while they shop around for a new deal here in the US.

Some TNA wrestlers were reportedly told that TNA will survive either way and be OK because they’ve trimmed most of the big contracts down and because they have gotten rid of most of the higher-paid talents. Some wrestlers were also told that TNA’s business model is changing.

We get a recap video of Dixie’s return last week.

The roster is outside of the ring. And Dixie is out and once again apologizes profusely for her heel antics last year. She says breaking her back gave her a new found respect for the wrestling industry and its performers and fans. She says she’ll try not to let people down again and she truly means that. She says the future is bright for TNA and to ensure things are kept in line she introduces “The Law”…Bully Ray!

Bully comes out and shakes everyone’s hands. He is sporting a new look, presumably as part of his new authority figure role. Bully says Dixie called him to apologize and he believes she is being genuine. Bully does seem quite believable in the role, in fairness. Bully says TNA has the best roster in the world. Bully says he doesn’t want the roster outside the ring, he wants them in it. How about time for a battle royal? The fans applaud. Bully says it’s time to take TNA to the promised land and vows to do business with Dixie without kissing her butt. He says the winner of tonight’s battle royal will be No.1 contender for Ethan Carter’s belt. Good segment that served its purpose but just how many times have we heard someone vow to bring this company to “the promised land.” It simply doesn’t mean anything anymore.

20 Man Battle Royal

Wow, a lot of these people in this have already left the company since it was taped weeks and weeks ago. It’s more than a little depressing. Norv Fermun is out first. Manik and Crazy Steve and Shark Boy follow. Drew Galloway throws out Storm. Magnus is gone. Mandrews is thrown out by Khoya. Abyss and Chris Melendez are out too. We come back from the break to find out Robbie E., Jessie, Mica, Khoya. Kenny King and Bram are gone. Final three were Eric Young, MVP and Drew Galloway. Eric Young throws out MVP and goes at it with Galloway. Galloway wins when he boots out Young with a high kick and he’s your new No. 1 contender.

Winner: Galloway

It’s announced that new next TNA inductee into its Hall of Fame will be revealed next week.

Mike Tenay is talking with Ken Anderson about his loss to Bram last week. Anderson hints that he has a darkside like Bram too. He also teases retirement. Then we see Bully Ray give Spud a talk and a hug backstage. He gives him a match tonight.

We see Eli Drake wishing Drew Galloway luck for his title match tonight.

TNA tease Tigre Uno doing a promo on presidential candidate Donald Trump on next week’s Impact. Just a hunch but I don’t think Trump watches TNA.

Zema Ion vs. Spud vs Grado vs Tigre Uno for the X division title

Uno retrained with the phoenix splash over Grado in a decent enough match. A lot of this bout was focused on Spud and Grado’s comedic interactions and hyping up Tigre vs. Trump for next week so it was difficult to take seriously. But Uno and DJZ obviously tried their hardest.

Winner and still X Division champion: Tigre Uno

The announcers hype up Taryn Terrell’s title defense next. We get Taryn insulting Brooke in a video promo, as well as clips of Gail’s return several weeks ago.

Taryn Terrell vs. Brooke Adams for the KO Title

Marti and Jade try to get in some cheap shots before the match has even begun. Taryn hits a cutter on Brooke was only gets a two. Brooke fights back and manages to get a two count with the legsweep. The crowd are really behind Brooke here. Brooke tries to go up top when Marti and Jade try and distract her once again. Taryn capitalizes and smashes Brooke’s face on the apron and laughs and mocks her. Taryn goes the dropkick but misses and Brooke counters with a spear. Gail Kim shows up out of nowhere and takes out Marti and Jade, evening the odds for Adams. Brooke gets the win with the butterface maker to become the new KO champion.

Winner: Brooke Adams

Kurt Angle and Bully Ray chat in a backstage segment. Angle hints that he has a great idea for TNA…but a certain someone won’t like it. How mysterious.

We see Angle making his way to the ring. Angle tells the crowd that he talked with Bully Ray and that he wants another match against Carter after Carter got himself deliberately DQ’d in their title rematch last week. Angle then breaks the news that he has a tumor in his neck that has to be removed, but that when he comes back, he wants that rematch.

As Kurt is about to leave, Eric Young comes out. Eric credits himself for Kurt’s neck issues. Then he attacks Kurt. He tries to piledrive him but Melendez makes the save. Melendez then ends up eating the piledriver from Eric on the outside instead. Pope goes crazy on commentary about Young’s antics. Good segment but rather melodramatic.

We see Magnus and Storm from Slammiversary again. It seems this was meant to be a Hernandez segment but there are apparently legal problems with showing the footage due to Hernandez’s status with Lucha UG.

A TNA Hall of Fame video airs. This one is about Team 3D’s induction a few years ago.

James Storm is backstage along with Khoya and makes rather cryptic threats towards Mickie James again. We learn that in two weeks Storm will team up with a mysterious woman from Mickie’s past to take on Mickie and Magnus.

Carter talks to Bully Ray backstage. He tries to be diplomatic and says he wants to work with him, but he doesn’t want to defend his title belt tonight. Bully refuses and says he has to perform. These two have kind of fun chemistry and it will be entertaining to see them interact in the future.

Drew comes down to the ring for his title match.

Ethan Carter vs. Drew Galloway for the TNA World Title

Carter retained his belt with the one percenter in a very interference-filled main event match. The two locked up early on and EC3 deliberately rolled out of the ring early on to avoid Galloway. Tyrus attacked Drew but Eli Drake ran out to save him. But then Drake turned heel on Drew by attacking him with his crutches. OK, so why did he help Drew in the first place? That was like something Vince Russo would book. Both men made the effort but couldn’t overcome the wackiness of the storyline.

Winner and still TNA World champion: Ethan Carter III

We open with a video recap of Dario and his announcement of the medallion tournament and some clips of the Pentagon Jr/Vampiro feud.

Dario meets with Pentagon to talk about the medallions. He says he wants to meet Pentagon’s master. Pentagon says he doesn’t care about the medallions, he just wants Vampiro. Pentagon says his master will reveal himself when he’s ready. Bengala vs. Daivari is up first for one of the medallions.

Daivari vs. Bengala

Good, high-flying match, with the story being that Bengali was too quick even for Daivari and Daivari’s heel cheating backfiring when Bengali ending up taking out Ryck on the floor. That was a cool spot. Bengala won with the rolling German and got an Aztec medallion. On commentary, Vamprio hinted at taking on Pentagon’s challenge.

Winner: Bengala

Vampiro heads to the ring. He says he’s been around a long time and been wrestling for three decades. He says Pentagon is pushing him to have one more match. He says he didn’t want to return and has no ego, but getting covered in gasoline and nearly set on fire changed him. He says Pentagon reminds him of himself when he was young. Pentagon mocks him and says he wants an answer for Ultima Lucha. Vampiro says that while his real name is Ian Hodgkinson. it is Vampiro he’ll be facing at Ultima Lucha. Vampiro hits Pentagon with a chokeslam while the fans go crazy.

Sexy Star is in her locker room. She takes Superfly’s mask out of her bag. We get a recap of the Star/Superfly feud.

Cuerno vs. Killshot

Good, stiff match with some brutal-sounding chops early on. Very physical. Highlight was Cuerno nailing Killshot with The Arrow from the Depths of Hell to the outside of the ring. Cuerno won tapout with the modified surfboard. Very strong showing from both men. Striker hyped up the medallion on commentary and talked about how much power they bring in Lucha Underground.

Winner: Cuerno

Striker hypes up Sexy Star vs. Super Fly next. Super fly has new theme music.

Sexy Star vs Super Fly

Short bout. Sexy Star won with a low blow and an arm bar.

Winner: Sexy Star

Marty the Moth comes out and issues a challenge for her medallion. She accepts.

Sexy Star vs. Marty the Moth

They joked about Marty on commentary. Marty got in a bit of offense and even attempted the figure four leglock but she managed to reverse it and won again the La Mistica to keep her medallion.

Winner: Sexy Star

Prince Puma and Mil Muertes will go face to face…next!

Dario comes out. He talks up the title match at Ultima Lucha, but he says he’s impatient and wants them to face off now. Puma is out without Konnan. Katrina tries to come out to help Mil but Dario wants her escorted out. Mil’s guys come out to attack Puma. Konnan tries to come to his aid, but the heels gain the advantage and end up grabbing his weapon and beating Konnan down with it. Katrina smashes him over the head with her bag and knocks him out. Then they bring out a coffin and put him in it so he won’t be in the way at Ultima Lucha. Interesting ending.

TNA Already Cuts Hernandez, Major Issues Between TNA & Lucha Underground Causing Massive Edits

0

According to PWInsider, Hernandez has already been cut from the TNA roster after returning just a few weeks ago. This is due to the possibility of Lucha Underground taking legal action.

Several scenes and segments that have already been filmed have been pulled from upcoming TNA broadcasts to make sense of his cut.

TNA signed Shawn Hernandez, who had indicated to the company that he was contractually free and able to sign a new deal. Hernandez made several appearances at the June television tapings, filming well over a month of angles.

Lucha Underground later contacted TNA and said that Hernandez is still contractually attached to the brand, and that he couldn’t appear on any more episodes of Impact. TNA tried to pay Lucha Underground to allow them to use the scenes that had been filmed, but Lucha Underground rejected.

It’s being said that due to this issue, the BDC’s storylines are done for the time being, as it would be too difficult to get around Hernandez in the shots. TNA will replace that footage with existing footage.
