MVP Done With TNA Wrestling?

0

MVP took to Twitter Friday night to post a series of tweets aimed at TNA Wrestling. He dedicated the song “Sailing On” by Bad Brains to the company, noting that “it had been fun.” He also posted his booking information, which is nothing out of the ordinary for him to do.

He also posted that the BDC was dead. As noted, several previously filmed scenes featuring the group had to be removed from TNA programming due to a legal situation involving BDC member Hernandez, TNA and Lucha Underground. The BDC has seen a revolving door of members, as Samoa Joe, Low Ki and Hernandez have all left the company.

Dr. Tom Pritchard on The Evolution of the Shield in WWE:

What do the students take away from working with Dr. Tom:

If I didn’t have the opportunity to do it in Stamford then it would have been someone else. I happened to be at the right place at the right time. You would have to ask them (his trainees) what they learn from me. All I know is I learned from a great teacher when I took karate named Bill Gray. His method of teaching I adapted and adopted. I am proud of all the guys especially Rock and (Kurt) Angle. The Hardy Boyz were self-taught when they came to me, (Dolph) Ziggler came to a tryout in OVW and then came from OVW to Tampa. All the Deep South guys like Fandango (Johnny Curtis), if they took something away from what I showed them or said to them then more power to them and great. Edge and Christian; they started with Ron Hutchinson and then they came to the tryout in Stamford and whether we refined them or not they’ll have to give you their opinion on that. It also goes for Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and even Seth Rollins who was the Ring of Honor Champion. Ambrose has been around, Roman Reigns grew up in the business so they had something before they actually got to the system and got with me but if I helped them get farther then that then I am very proud of them for that.

Who did he see as the breakout star of The Shield:

When Ambrose got there he was the most unique of the three in my opinion. He had a mix of Terry Funk and Roddy Piper. He was the real-deal, he never let you in on what he was thinking in the dressing room or in class he kept that mystery about him even though you knew he was working he didn’t tell you he was working.

Seth Rollins getting the spot of The Future of the WWE:

Rollins had that cocksure attitude because he knew he was good. He and Ambrose had their angle in FCW that was our top angle up until they went to the Performance Center. You knew that Roman Reigns was going to be great because he had the stock, he came from the stock they wanted. Now, the way it turned out from the business end of things how does Seth Rolling get in that position? Seth is a smart guy, Ambrose is a smart guy but I don’t know if he is as good a politician as Seth Rollins is and that is not taking anything away from Seth but you have to know how to play the game and you have to know who is running the game up there. Seth got in with the right people and he has talent and he has everything going for him. Ambrose I thought was very talented but there were some in FCW that didn’t think he had the look but all had the talent to be a top guy. They were high on Reigns from the start, Ambrose and Rollins were going to be bit players in FCW that was the take on them but as time went on and other factors came into play and The Shield came about.

Helping teach and train The Rock prior to his WWF Debut:

I don’t know if I was able to teach him that much. He came in October and had been in Memphis for about a year and we just trained and worked out at that time with Achim Albrecht (Brakkus) and Mark Henry. He was a young kid, a great guy, had the Chia Pet haircut and you knew he had talent but no one could tell at that time that he was going to be as big as he is today. But he had personality. To go over his finish, I gave him the shoulder-breaker, well that was terrible. I worked some of his first matches on the road and worked with him in the warehouse in the ring on a daily basis. He had that charisma and personality but you look at him and he was this smiling, good looking kid with a Chia Pet haircut coming out and wanting everyone to cheer him and it just didn’t work. People were revolting against that typical baby-face guy from back then and it was to his advantage because he knew and he understood once it was explained to him, once he got the feel of it, it was that smart-Alec come back with a comment guy. I had no idea that his goal in life was to be the performer or the actor that he is.

What did he see in Kurt Angle:

The first time I locked up with him I told him, “Kurt I have nothing to prove so don’t try and snatch me”. He was easy, he got it, he moved well and to me he was a natural. He was another guy that you knew he had this drive and had this work ethic. Kurt grasped it right from the beginning, he knew and understood that with a practice scrimmage we work hard but are trying to work together. That’s the real conflict with most amateur wrestlers that I’ve ever had because there instincts are to not be put on their back and Kurt grasped that idea from the first time we trained.

What made matches easy for him during his career:

Any match with Brad Armstrong was a favorite match. I had some great matches with Jeff (Jarrett) and the Rock N’ Roll Express and The Fantastics and even Chris Jericho. My favorite matches were with the guys I clicked with, you go out there and you didn’t have to call anything in the back. There’s way to much of that today. Everyone walks through every move of their match and that’s what it looks like when I’ve watched RAW on occasion it looks like spots are being called in the ring because you can see when its happening. Any time when you can get in the ring and just go and not call it move for move and Brad Armstrong could do that.

Hernandez TNA – Lucha Underground Update

0

Source: PWInsider

As we reported earlier this week, Hernandez has been released by TNA Wrestling after a contractual dispute occurred between the company and Lucha Underground.

PWInsider reports that Hernandez was hired after a strong recommendation by MVP to be added to his BDC stable. TNA management went along with the request and brought him in.

TNA sources told PWInsider that Hernandez told the company he was free from any contractual obligations to Lucha Underground. TNA made him sign an agreement saying that he presented himsel as a free agent.

Lucha Underground sources said that Hernandez asked for his release, which was in the works, but didn’t go through. The company was fine with him taking outside bookings, but didn’t want him to appear on another company’s television until after Ultima Lucha, which airs on August 5. Hernandez instead told TNA he had a verbal release and provided documentation that they were in contact.

TNA told Hernandez they would be glad to use his footage if he wanted to pursue legal action, but when the deadline they gave him came and went, they released him from the promotion. TNA told PWInsider that they offered Lucha Underground money to use the scenes they’d already filmed with Hernandez, but Lucha Underground is denying that ever happened.

Team 3D On Wanting WWE Return, Vince McMahon, Working With Paul Heyman, Rowan And Harper

Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard site recently spoke with “The Dudleys” Bully Ray and Devon to promote the upcoming House of Hardcore event in Toronto. The full interview is at this link. Below are highlights:

A possible WWE return:

Devon: “For us not to be back there, knowing that we’re in the best shape we’ve ever been in, I don’t understand it. We’re better now than we were ten or fifteen years ago. I understand that they want the future. But without the older generation that paved the way for these young guys to come, you’re not going to have it. Wrestling is a lost art, so you need the older guys like us to help show the younger guys how it’s done. I don’t understand it, though I know it needs to be on their terms.”

Bully: “Take the Dudley Boyz and put them back in WWE, and you’d add instant credibility to the tag division. The great thing about the Dudleys is we can work with any team and we can work any style. Not only will we help one team get over and learn and get better, but we can help all of them. It seems pretty simple to me – having the Dudleys back in the WWE is best for business, so I don’t have a really great answer for why we are not there. Only they know. You would think the most decorated tag team in the history of WWE would be able to go back into a company and breathe life into the tag division. It may never happen, but you never say never. It could be right around the corner.”

Paul Heyman and ECW:

Devon: “The greatest thing Paul Heyman ever gave us was creative liberty. A lot of the boys liked to call Paul the ‘David Koresh’ of pro wrestling back then, but he believed in you. He’d fire you up to the point where you thought you were bigger than Hulk Hogan. He made you believe in yourself. Paul took the time to develop your character. When people didn’t know how to speak on the mic, he’d sit there with you until three, four, or even five in the morning until you got it right. Paul really let us be us. When WCW fired Steve Austin [in 1995] and WWE wasn’t knocking on his door, it was Paul E. who saw something in Austin. Eric Bischoff fired Austin when he was hurt in WCW, and Paul E. said, ‘I know you’re hurt, but can you talk?’ When Steve came to ECW and delivered those promos – oh my God, you couldn’t believe that was the same guy who was in WCW. That’s what started Austin as a superstar. Steve started to be born again, and it was the same thing when he was in WWE. He didn’t become a star until he was given the creative liberty to be himself.”

Bully: “We text and talk all the time. Me and Paul, our relationship is better than anyone else he had from the entire ECW roster. We respect and like each other as people. Even at the Rumble, it was great catching up with him. When the Rumble was over, I was on Brock Lesnar’s tour bus with Brock and Paul, and we were shooting the s— and reminiscing. When Brock first started and Paul was his manager, I was Brock’s first storyline. The WWE came to me and asked me to get Brock ready for what could be in store for him.”

Bully on Brock Lesnar:

“Brock is just so powerful. One night, we were performing at Penn State, and Brock gave me an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. He dropped me right on my head. It was a total mistake, and it could have been a very, very bad injury for me. As soon as it happened, I remember getting up and telling Brock, ‘Do it again, do it again.’ He did not want to suplex me again, so I made him suplex me three more times the same exact way. I didn’t want Brock to become gun-shy about throwing people or change the way he worked if he’d be worried about hurting other people.”

Bully on traveling with Shane McMahon:

“When Shane McMahon was on the road for the company, he was in the car with us. One night, we were driving, and Shane decided to wake up his father and made us all say hello to Vince at three in the morning. Vince loves all that horses—. Shane was driving and he said, ‘Come on, let’s wake up Pop.’ I said, ‘That’s probably not a good idea.’ So he called his father and said, ‘Bubba wants to talk.’ He handed me the phone and all I could hear was Vince say, ‘Bubba, why are you corrupting my son?’ I told him it was the other way around, and we both started laughing.”

Bully on Vince McMahon:

“Vince spent his whole life in the business, added his vision, and made it the best in the world. Vince has a great mind for the industry and thinks on a much larger scale. Paul [Heyman] was great at storytelling and really getting people’s characters to come out and how to hide your weaknesses and accentuate your strengths. Those are the two smartest guys I’ve ever learned from in the business, and Paul, Vince, and Pat Patterson are the three best minds ever in this business.”

Erick Rowan and Luke Harper:

Bully: “Right now, the one WWE tag team that deserves to taste the Dudley Death Drop is Harper and Rowan. It was very interesting they started hitting the Dudley Death Drop on TV and calling it something else. We’ve been hitting this finish consecutively for eighteen years.”

Devon: “That is a touchy subject. A move like 3D – when you see it, you automatically think the Dudleys. So Harper and Rowan started the fight. Harper said on Twitter, they’d be happy to show us ‘The Way,’ which is what they’re calling the move. Well, we’d be more than happy to hit 3D the way it should be hit.”

Seth Rollins Calls Out John Morrison, Knocks Tough Enough Competitors, Talks John Cena And More

0

The PodNasty Wrestling podcast issued the following:

Seth Rollins recently sat down with the PodNasty Wrestling Podcast for a very quotable interview as he talked about the pressures of being WWE World Heavyweight Championship, going it alone against Brock Lesnar, his recent visit to the barracks on Tough Enough and more! Here are highlights:

Upcoming match against Brock Lesnar being the biggest of his career:

“I feel like I’ve had a lot of ‘biggest matches of my career’ up until this point. I would say this one is certainly special. I mean, there’s not a lot of guys who get the opportunity to go one-on-one with Brock Lesnar at this point in his career, so to be one of those guys to main event a pay-per-view with Brock Lesnar over a very prestigious title it all adds up to being certainly one of if not—I’ll leave that up to you and the other media pundits to decide what is the biggest match of my career—but it certainly ranks up there with the very, very biggest of my career.

United States Championship vs. WWE World Heavyweight Championship and competing with John Cena:

“(The WWE World Heavyweight Championship) is (the most dominant title in the company) no matter what, no matter who is wearing what other title, this is the big boy, this is the one that everybody wants and if John (Cena) tells you any different he’s a liar,” said Rollins.

“But the bottom line, though, is that I’m always competing with John Cena, John’s a guy who has set the bar extremely high for the past 10, 12-15 years, he’s a guy who—not only in the ring, but outside the ring—is an example of what a WWE Superstar should be and he has put in the work over that period of time to prove that and that’s definitely something I strive to be as well. I strive to have that work ethic and instill that in people around me the way John has over the past decade and a half so I’m always competing with John Cena in my mind, but my title is the title and there’s definitely no doubt about that.”

Tough Enough contestants not standing out:

“Not one person stood out to me (on Tough Enough),” said Rollins.

“Not a single one, nope, not one. I went down there and I tried to help them out, give them a few pointers here and there, let them know what it takes to be a star but, let me tell you, those kids got it easy.

“They don’t know anything about anything when it comes to putting in the time, they think they’re going to get through this little three-month course and they’re going to be WWE Superstars and they’re going to be famous, and rich and travel the world. That’s not how it works, it’s a whole lot of hard work and I think they’re going to figure that out along the way, or they’re going to fall by the wayside. For me, I didn’t see a whole lot, maybe as they move along in the process they’ll show more personality and a little more guts, but for now I’m not holding my breath.”

If there will be backstage tension between Tough Enough Winners and WWE/NXT Talent:

Absolutely, that’s what I’m talking about. Tough Enough is phenomenal, it’s great, don’t get me wrong. It pushes WWE out into the masses and everyone can see it’s physical and they get an inside look at kind of what it’s like to be a WWE Superstar,” said Rollins.

“But at the same time you’ve got to understand that’s not all that it takes, you don’t just get to be on a reality gameshow and all of a sudden you’re just a top star in 12 weeks. They’re going to have to put in a lot of time, and a lot of hard work, and they’re going to have to sacrifice a lot of relationships, they’re going to be injured often, it’s going to take a toll on them physically and emotionally that they’re not prepared for and I think it will be very interesting to see who comes out of Tough Enough, who really is Tough Enough I guess when you look at it. Who’s going to come out of it alive and who’s going to make a success out of themselves?”

John Morrison stating he would “destroy Seth Rollins in everything.”

“If I’m not mistaken, I believe John Morrison is a zero-time WWE World Heavyweight champion. Mind you, zero. As in never once did he win the big one. And I’m, what, not even three years into my WWE career and I’ve already won Money in the Bank, won the WWE title at WrestleMania, first-ever NXT champion so there’s a lot of things that I’ve already destroyed John Morrison at and if John Morrison thinks he can take me in any of those endeavors, I would love for John Morrison to step up and say something like that to my face.”

WWE Announces Jushin Thunder Liger Is Coming In August

0

International wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger will appear at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn! The blockbuster announcement was made by NXT General Manager William Regal at tonight’s NXT tapings at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla and then via Twitter.

A legend in his home country of Japan, Liger is an innovator of the high-flying, hard-hitting style that defined cruiserweight wrestling. A true aerial artist, he is not only credited with the invention of the Shooting Star Press, but is also a dangerous striker, known for his devastating shotei palm strikes.

He brought that style to America in the early 1990s with WCW, where he captured their Light Heavyweight Championship from Brian Pillman on Christmas 1991. Liger and Pillman went on to have a classic battle at SuperBrawl II that is regarded as one of the best cruiserweight matches ever. Liger returned to Japan for several years before coming back to WCW for the debut episode of Monday Nitro in 1995, again squaring off with Pillman in a thrilling affair.

A decorated champion in Japan, Mexico and the United States, Jushin “Thunder” Liger will appear in WWE for the first time ever at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Saturday, Aug. 22.

Don’t miss your chance to see a rare appearance in the United States from one of the most revered highfliers of all time! Tickets for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn will be available this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET!
