News On Possible Plans For The Wyatt Family, Sting And Roman Reigns Getting A Partner?

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

As seen at WWE Battleground last night, Luke Harper reunited with Bray Wyatt to help him defeat Roman Reigns. This is the storyline where Sting is expected to make his return.

While a tag match with Sting and Reigns vs. Wyatt and Harper is expected at SummerSlam, it may be a six-man match as the original plan was Sting, Reigns and Dean Ambrose vs. Wyatt, Harper and Erick Rowan but Rowan is out of action with an injury. Dave Meltzer noted on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that we may see a new Wyatt Family member introduced because Rowan is out.

On a related note, WWE is hoping that fans won’t boo Reigns because he will be partnered up with Sting but with SummerSlam taking place in New York City, they could easily boo Reigns and cheer Sting.

– In this post-WWE Battleground video from last night, Bray Wyatt sends a message to Roman Reigns and says he tried to warn Reigns that it can be “anyone but you.” Wyatt tells the rest of the world to say their prayers and lock their doors because “The Family” has returned. Luke Harper also appears and tells everyone to run.

WWE Stars Stopped By Police After Battleground, Why WWE Is Reportedly Doing Apron Bumps

0

– Mark Henry and WWE Tag Team Champions Darren Young and Titus O’Neil were pulled over by police after leaving tonight’s Battleground pay-per-view in St. Louis.

Titus posted this video on Instagram of the group in good spirits after the stop:

– You may have noticed the many apron bumps at last night’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view, more than a dozen altogether. One of the most impressive apron bumps last night was the splash from Big E. Dave Meltzer noted on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE officials are now having talents do more bumps on the apron, which is actually the hardest part of the ring. For what it’s worth, Meltzer noted that this new idea of doing more apron bumps is directly related to Ring of Honor.

The two battle back-and-forth more a bit and then Reigns blocks another Sister Abigail attempt with a roll up, however Wyatt kicks out at two. After the match, the hooded man enters the ring. He reveals himself to be Luke Harper. The two pose as Wyatt’s music plays. It looks like the beginning of a Wyatt Family reunion.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

Backstage: Sasha Banks, Naomi & Tamina with JoJo

Backstage, JoJo is with Sasha Banks, Naomi and Tamina. They reveal the fact that they have chosen Sasha Banks to represent them in the Divas triple-threat match that Stephanie McMahon made earlier tonight. Naomi talked about how they were all on the same page.

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte vs. Brie Bella

We head to the ring and out comes NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks without her title. Out next is the trio of Paige, Becky Lynch and Charlotte. We find out that they have selected Charlotte to represent them. Finally, out comes Team Bella — Nikki Bella, Brie Bella and Alicia Fox. We find out Brie Bella will be representing them.
Our Divas triple-threat match as part of the Divas Revolution begins now, with Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Brie Bella representing their respective trios.

Nikki Bella shows off her WWE Divas Championship as the fans chant NXT. Charlotte gets in Nikki’s face and the fans do the “Woo!” thing. Sasha talks some trash now as well. Nikki heads out to the floor. Brie comes in.

Brie and Sasha double-team Charlotte to kick off the match. Banks then rolls Brie up for a pinfall attempt. Charlotte then rolls up Banks. Sasha is down now and Brie and Charlotte start going at it. Banks re-enters the mix and blasts both of them with knees in the corner. Banks tries pinning them both at the same time but only gets two.

Charlotte ends up taking control of the offense single-handedly, taking out both Banks and Brie and then hitting a series of trademark moves such as the Flair chops. Banks ends up fighting her way back into the match as well.

Brie starts making her comeback finally and the fans in St. Louis start boo’ing like crazy, as they are clearly in support of the two NXT Divas in this contest.

The three exchange a number of quick, finishing-sequence type moves when finally Banks applies the Bank Statement on Charlotte. Brie breaks it up and slams Banks into the ring post. Charlotte ends up getting Brie in the Figure Eight. Brie taps out.

After the match, Charlotte celebrates with Becky Lynch and Paige as her music plays and the fans cheer.

After the video package airs to tell the story of the Cena-Owens feud, Kevin Owens’ music hits and the former NXT Champion makes his way to the ring. Out next to his usual reaction is the WWE United States Champion John Cena.

The formal introductions are done for this title match and both Owens and Cena are ready. WWE United States Championship action is next at WWE Battleground. Both guys are exchanging offensive control early on, but when the smoke clears, it’s Owens who is dominating the action here aganist the current WWE U.S. champ.

Cena starts fighting back. He hits the Canadian Destroyer for a pinfall attempt. Cena goes back to the top for the leg drop but Owens catches him with a sitdown powerbomb. Cena comes back and hits an Attitude Adjustment out of nowhere, however Owens manages to kick out at two. Cena takes Owens to the top rope but Owens counters and hits Cena with a superplex for a two count of his own. Cena is selling his shoulder after the superplex spot.

Owens has been yelling at Cole a lot through this match. The ref is checking on Cena while Owens yells at Cole this time. He tells Cole to “watch this” as he goes for his Pop-Up Powerbomb finisher, however Cena counters it. Owens hits Cena with his own Attitude Adjustment and then locks Cena in his own STF submission hold. Cena finally makes it to the ropes to force a break.

Cena and Owens then go on a rampage exchanging each others finishing moves and their own until we finally get to the finish, which sees Cena lock Owens in the STF. Owens crawls to the ropes but Cena yanks him back out. Owens finally taps out.

After the match, Cena’s music hits and he celebrates with the U.S. title. Owens is stumbling around as the ref is trying to help him, but Owens pushes the ref and walks off. We see some replays of some of the action during the match and that’s about it.

The announcers discuss Ryback’s injury and the fact that there will not be a triple-threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Battleground tonight as planned.

Instead out comes The Miz. The fans boo. Miz gets to the ring and gets on the mic. He talks trash for a while about Ryback, calling him weak and saying he’s not even injured.

Finally, Big Show’s music hits. Miz pleads with him to team up and beat up Ryback together. Big Show, without saying a word, simply walks in the ring, blasts Miz with one KO punch, and walks back out.

The video package for tonight’s main event between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship plays. Our 2015 WWE Battleground main event is up next.

After the video package, we head back inside the Scottrade Center in St. Louis where we return to the ring. Out first comes the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins by himself.
Out next is the challenger, Brock Lesnar, who comes to the ring accompanied by his advocate, Paul Heyman. Lilian Garcia does the formal introductions for our WWE title main event.

The “Suplex City” chants fire up immediately before the match is even underway. Finally, the bell sounds and here we go. Like a bull let out of its’ cage, Lesnar bum-rushes Rollins and bullies him back into the corner. Lesnar slams his shoulder into Rollins repeatedly. Lesnar goes for his first trip to Suplex City, however Rollins escapes and ducks out to the floor.

When Rollins comes back in, Lesnar again goes for some suplexes, but Rollins keeps finding ways to avoid them. Finally, Lesnar goes for an F-5, but Rollins escpaes. However, Lesnar does manage to hit his first German suplex of the match. And another. And another. The fans are starting to count how many times Lesnar takes Rollins to Suplex City now.

Lesnar seems to be in firm control of the offense now, as he is brutalizing Rollins and every once in a while, taking him to Suplex City again. The fans are keeping track each time he does it. As of right now, Lesnar has taken Rollins to Suplex City an incredible 13 times.

Lesnar nails a F5 and covers but The Undertaker’s bells toll. The lights go out and when they come back on, The Undertaker is standing in the ring staring at Lesnar. They trade counters and Taker hits a chokeslam and then a Tombstone. Fans chant Taker’s name as he goes to leave the ring. He comes back in and hits another Tombstone as Heyman looks on. Fans want one more but Taker drops to one knee and does his signature pose as his music hits and the lights go out. TV 1994-07-05 (Matches taped 1994-06-17 at Farmer’s Market in Montgomeryville, Pa & 1994-06-26 at ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pa)

Champions
Heavyweight: “The Franchise” Shane Douglas
TV: Mikey Whipwreck
Tag: Public Enemy

We open up with clips from the Funks Public Enemy feud to hype their barbed wire match. It includes an in ring interview by the Funks that I believe is from after the match at the TV taping from the 26th. Terry says that he probably doesn’t have too many matches left in him.

Tag Team Champions Public Enemy vs. Phi Delta Slam, ref John Finnegan
“Flyboy” Rocco Roc starts off. PDS are comprised of Big Tilly and Bruno Sassi. They are from Florida and would later appear with TNA. I’m not sure who is who because by the time they got to TNA they had both gained a bunch of weight and Willie “Scoop” Watts is an awful commentator and doesn’t tell us who they are. Basic tag match with nothing much going on but a nice surprise nonetheless. PE get the advantage and actually work a wrestling match match. After about 9 minutes PDS make the tag and the match spills to the ouside as PE gets beat on with chairs. PE regains the advantage but Roc misses a dive through a table. Back in the ring Johnny Grunge with a side slam followed by a reverse DDT. Roc finishes things off with the drive by for the win in 11.32.

Added to the July 16th Arena show is TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck against Chad Austin and Pitbulls take on Tazmaniac and a mystery partner.

“Ironman” Tommy Cairo says every time he gets close to the singapore cane Sandman gets it right before him. Cairo lights a cigarette for Peaches and she says it’s always been Cairo that lights her fire. We then see clips of the many times Cairo has been caned including….

911 (w/ Paul E Dangerously) vs. “Ironman” Tommy Cairo ref Jim Molineaux (1994-06-17)
Sandman sneaks in the ring before the match starts canes Cairo who stumbles forward into a chokeslam. Ref calls for the bell and makes the 3 count.

Sandman and Woman hype dueling canes. Sandman asks if Cairo has had enough and why he won’t just pay his bill.

Hype videos for Sabu versus Chad Austin later tonight and Tazmaniac against “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka next week!

TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck vs. Pitbull 2 (w/ Jason & Pitbull 1), ref Jim Molineuax
Press slam sends Mikey crashing to the mat. Double under hook power bomb. Mikey ducks a clothesline and goes for a cross body but he gets caught and hit with two back breakers. Pitbull 2 with another press slam and he drops Mikey on the top rope and Mikey bounces to the floor. Pretty nasty looking. Jason and Pitbull 1 get in some shots. Mikey ducks a clothesline and nail Jason off the apron. Pitbull 1 comes in and attacks giving Mikey another DQ win in 4.08. The Pitbulls and Jason continue the attack after the match. Tazmaniac attempts to make the save but the three on one proves to be too much.

Paul E Dangerously is in the locker room and he cuts an extended promo to hype the July 16th match where his man Sabu tries to get the gold from Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas.

Sabu (w/ Paul E. Dangerously & 911) vs. Chad Austin, ref Jim Molineaux
Sabu gets let loose and hits the ring and picks Chad up and goes for what I think he wanted to be a michinoku driver but just made it a sick looking piledriver instead. Austin sent into the corner and he takes a Flair bump to the apron. Sabu with a sunset flip power bomb to the floor! Austin put on a table and Sabu flies from the ring putting Austin through the table. Paul E holds a chair over the face of Austin and Sabu with a slingshot leg drop into the ring for the win in 2.22.

After a commercial break Sabu is strapped back to his stretcher and they are preparing to leave when Mr. Hughes and Shane Douglas come to the ring the main event. There is a stare down but no one comes to blows.

Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas (w/ Mr. Hughes) vs. Tommy Dreamer, ref John Finnegan
Hughes attacks Dreamer as he gets into the ring and Shane nails the ref right after the bell. Hughes hits a sidewalk slam as another ref calls for the bell as Dreamer wins by DQ in .24. Shane and Hughes continue the beatdown as Douglas hits a belly to belly. Shane gets a mic and says no one has beaten him 4 years. Douglas tells Sabu that he is good but not the man that Shane is. Shane wants Sabu to come down to the ring now.

My thoughts on the show…
Real good show today. A decent “wrestling” match from PE and everything from the Paul E interview on down was a good watch. Check this one out.

TV 1994-07-12 (Matches taped 1994-06-26 at ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pa)

Champions
Heavyweight: “The Franchise” Shane Douglas
TV: Mikey Whipwreck
Tag: Public Enemy

Same opening video package as last week but this one features a promo by Tag Team Champions Public Enemy. PE talk about how they are going to massacre the Funk brothers this Saturday.

We see Pitbull 2 make his debut at Hostile City Showdown. Jason and Pitbull 1 bad mouth Tazmaniac. We next see a bunch of highlights from last weeks episode. Wow what a way to kill 11 minutes.

Tazmaniac vs. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka (w/ Hunter Q Robbins), ref Jim Molineaux
Joey Styles is back!!!!!!!! I’m so excited and Joey still kinda sucked at this point I’m just thrilled that Watts is gone. I fully expect them to bark at each other at some point in the match. Joey talks about how Tazmaniac is like a young Snuka in style. Joey really over hypes this saying it’s like a student and teacher, father and son. They back each other into corners but break clean each time. Taz doesn’t act like a wild man. They play up the respect factor as neither man wants to really go after the other. Snuka and Robbins talk strategy. Snuka finally goes on the attack after 5 minutes. Taz reverses an irish whip and Robbins pulls down the ropes while not looking thinking it’s Taz. and Snuka trips. Taz with a northern lights for 3 in 5.23. Robbins yells at Snuka calling him monkey boy. Snuka goes to nail Robbins but Taz stops him just as the Pitbulls hit the ring and go after Taz. Why did he stop him? Snuka and Robbins go to leave but Snuka keeps trying to go back. Robbins pulls him back each time. Taz fights back and cleans house and then a few other guys from the back hit the ring and Tazmaniac beats them up to. Hack Myers gets belly to bellied on the floor.

Sandman and Woman telling TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck it’s for him to pay his bill.

TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck vs. Sandman (w/ Woman), ref John Finnegan
Sandman of course dominates nailing a few suplexes and throwing Mikey outside the ring so Woman can get in some shots. Sandman goes up top and hits a few elbows. Woman gets on the apron as Sandman goes for a third one. “Ironman” Tommy Cairo comes down and nails Sandman with a cane. Mikey pulls himself up on Cairo and Tommy nails him. The ref sees it this time and calls for the bell giving Mikey the win by DQ in 4.08. Cairo continues the attack on Sandman nailing him a few more times.

Tag Team Champions Public Enemy are arriving at the earlier today. They are crying about how they need someone for tonight because they are in a 6 man tag match. They bump into Hack Myers who is very drunk and make him an honorary member of PE for their match against the Funks and Tommy Dreamer.

Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and Mr. Hughes call out Sabu and 911. Douglas then goes on to also call out WWF Champion Bret Hart and WCW Champion Ric Flair.

Chad Austin comes to the ring looking rather pissed off. Austin comes out and says that last week everyone cheered for Sabu and calls the fans scum bags. Jason and Rockin’ Rebel make there way to the ring. Austin says he has a present for Rebel and lays down. Austin tells Rebel to pin him. Rebel covers and gets the three.

Woman is backstage with Sandman and she says she can’t stand anything about “Ironman” Tommy Cairo. Sandman tells Cairo to pay him to his house, cars and wife as he smacks himself in the head with the singapore cane cutting himself open.

Paul E Dangerously talks about how Vince McMahon is on trial and is doing the same things on his program that Verne Gange did in 1922. Paul E says that the future of wrestling is hardcore and the most hardcore wrestler out there is Sabu. This Saturday night Paul E says Sabu becomes ECW Champion.

Tag Team Champions Public Enemy & Hack Meyers vs. Funk Brothers & Tommy Dreamer, ref Jim Molineaux
“Flyboy” Rocco Roc attacks Dory Funk in the aisle from behind with a chair. Dreamer gets nailed also. Terry Funk hits the ring and goes after everyone. Dory gets up and joins the fight now. It’s an all out brawl with all six men fighting all over the place. Dreamer hits a bulldog on a chair and gets the win in 2.35. “Franchise” Shane Douglas hits the ring and goes after Dreamer. Locker room empties to pull them apart. Mr. Hughes and 911 go nose to nose in the middle of the ring. All hell breaks loose and Dreamer and Douglas are back at it. Sabu hits the ring and climbs to the top and nails Shane with a spin kick. Terry Funk comes back to ring side and starts throwing chairs. Everyone pairs off with their opponent for this Saturday’s big Arena card as a huge brawl breaks out.

My thoughts on the show…
Awesome brawl to end the shows a great way to lead us into the Arena on Saturday. Expect to see Snuka as Tazmaniac’s mystery partner after what happened at the beginning of the show. Overall some good hype for Saturday.

Bad Breed vs. Rockin’ Rebel & Hack Meyers, ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
For some reason when Rebel tags in he gets a huge ovation. Rebel poses and the Ian Rotten taunts him by mimicking Rebel. Nice back and forth between the two teams and they each make a few tags in and out. Rebel and Hack take over. Rebel gets a 2 off a swinging neck breaker on Axl Rotten. Hack tags in and just beats away on Axl. They make an illegal switch and the fans are actually able to convince the ref that they tagged. Axl gets the boot up on a corner charge and comes off the middle turnbuckle with a clothesline and tags. Ian with a nice northern lights with a bridge for 2. Rebel ducks a line and hits one of his own then tags back to Hack. Hack goes for a back body drop but Ian drops him with a double arm DDT and tags. Axl comes in a house of fire taking out Rebel and hitting Hack with an inverted atomic drop. Tag to Ian and he comes off the top with a bulldog and covers for the 3 in 9.43. Rebel and Hack argue then hug but Rebel turns on Hack with a clothesline which the fans love. They fight to the back.

TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck vs. Chad Austin (w/ Jason), ref Jim Molineaux
Austin fresh off a heel turn a few days ago. Mikey goes for a leap frog but gets caught and slammed. Austin with a hard clothesline floors Mikey. Back in Austin misses a corner charge and stumbles to the floor. Mikey goes after him and chases Austin around the ring. Austin slides back in and stomps Mikey and hits a sick looking brain buster but then pulls up Mikey. Mikey comes back and goes to work on the arm. Mikey ducks his head for a back body drop but Austin nails him with a power bomb. Austin again picks up Mikey after a 2. Austin goes for another but Mikey reverses with a frankensteiner that gets 2. Austin goes for an axe handle off the top but Mikey punches him in the gut and hits the Mr. Perfect neck snap for 2. Austin goes for a frankensteiner now but Mikey drops down with a power bomb. Mikey comes off the top with a cross body for 2. Austin quickly up and he charges Mikey and throws him to the floor and Jason suplexes him on a table. Austin with a slingshot suplex and a leg drop off the top rope to win the TV Title in 9.14. Austin gets on the mic and tells the fans that when they cheer for him he has to let them down. Austin pulls brass knuckles out of his boots and tells the ref that he had to use them to when the match. The ref reverses the decision and gives the belt back to Mikey. Jason and Austin attack Mikey and Jason hits Mikey with a particularly sick looking piledriver on the belt. Joey explains that Austin hates the fans so much that he didn’t want them to enjoy seeing a title change. Ehh I guess that makes sense. Pretty fun match with a whacky ending.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Steve Richards (w/ Angel), ref John Finnegan
Dreamer all over Richards to start hitting a suplex and beating on Richards. Fans getting behind Dreamer a bit as he punches away on Richards. They go to the floor and Dreamer gets sent into the guard rail. Richards charges and gets lifted and hot shot on the rail. Back in the ring Dreamer with a swinging neck breaker. Dreamer with a whip to the corner and he charges but gets caught with a super kick. Inverted atomic drop and a second super kick by Richards. Standing drop kick. Angel gets in on the action and chokes Dreamer on the bottom rope. Dreamer comes back hitting a belly to belly and leg drop for 2. Double clothesline puts both men down momentarily. Dreamer back up with a body slam but then he misses a splash. Richards comes of the top with a fist drop for 2 and then calls out that he’s going for another one. Dreamer however gets up and catches Richards in the Dreamweaver sleeper hold for the win in 7.46. Dreamer on the mic afterwards and says he doesn’t care who wins the title tonight but he wants Heavyweight Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and calls him a piece of shit. Douglas and Mr. Hughes comes to the ring and Hughes answers the challenge.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Mr. Hughes (w/ Shane Douglas), ref John Finnegan

Dreamer ducks a clothesline and locks in the sleeper. Hughes pushes him off to the ropes. Douglas nails Dreamer with a chair and he stumbles into the side walk slam and Hughes picks up the win in 2.58. Douglas gets on the mic and calls Angel into the ring. Douglas and Hughes continue to stomp on Dreamer. Douglas says Hughes will be at his side to take care of 911 but he needs Angel to take care of Paul E Dangerously. They come to blows and 911 goes after Austin and Rebel. Hughes comes from behind with a chair and lays out 911. The fight continues on in the ring. This is a giant mess. Sabu hits the ring and we finally get a bell and partner for Taz. Crowd is going crazy for Sabu. Taz throws Pitbull 2 over the top rope with a belly to belly then hits Pitbull 1 with a half nelson suplex for the win in .52.

Dueling Canes Match: Sandman (w/ Woman) vs. “Ironman” Tommy Cairo (w/ Peaches), ref Jim Molineaux
They fuck around for what feels like forever. Then Sandman almost immediately bails to the floor. Really not much to recap here. They beat the shit out of each other with canes. Sandman blades his arm. They stand around and trade brutal shots to the head. Both men go down and Peaches gets in and grabs a cane and goes after Woman. She swings it back but it nails the ref. Sandman grabs Peaches and Cairo goes after Woman to cane her. Sandman saves her and nails Cairo a few times then pins him for the win in 7.24. Sandman says that Cairo has paid his bill signifying the end of this feud, as he whacks him one more.

Heavyweight Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas (w/ Mr. Hughes & Angel) vs. Sabu (w/ Paul E Dangerously & 911), ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Sabu escapes from 911 in the locker room and literally runs through a wall on his way to the ring. This should be a good one. Paul E on the mic before the match real quick proclaims Sabu to be the future of wrestling. Douglas in control early on comes off the top with a axehandle. Some back and forth between the two ends with Sabu getting a 2 count off a roll up. Shane with a vertical suplex and into a head scissor. After locking the head scissor on for a few minutes Shane hits a back breaker and then goes into a camel clutch. Sabu gets out but gets nailed with a clothesline. Sabu ducks a second attempt and hits a power bomb for 2. They go to the floor where Douglas gets nailed in the skull with a chair. Sabu sits him in a chair and then dives out of the ring onto him. Back in the ring Sabu nails Douglas with the chair and goes for air sabu but Douglas moves out of the way. Douglas picks Sabu up and drops him into the chair then hits a slingshot splash for 2. Sabu spiked down with a pile driver but he kicks out at 2. Sabu gets whipped in but leaps off the middle rope and hits a spin kick. Sabu goes to the apron and goes for a slingshot 450 but Douglas moves! That looked awesome. Douglas gets 2 and goes into a chin lock. Sabu breaks out and goes for a rana but Douglas turns it into a power bomb. Top rope elbow drop by Shane and into a half crab. Shane turns into an STF. 911 and Hughes on the apron arguing. Sabu goes low and then comes off the top with a spin kick. Douglas goes to the floor. Sabu somersaults off the apron onto Sabu. Sabu throws a chair at Shane and nails him in the face. Douglas sent all the way into the crowd and Sabu jumps off the guard rail onto Shane. Shane fights back and nails Sabu with a chair. Sabu sent into the guard rail. Sabu blocks a suplex and crotches Shane on the guard rail. 911 gets a table for Sabu and then the lights go out. We clip back into the ring and Sabu has on a chin lock. Shane breaks out and sends Sabu into the corner but misses a charge that Shane to the floor. Sabu leans Shane on the table that is up against the guard rail. Sabu goes to the apron and goes for an asai moonsault. Shane moves and the table doesn’t break and Sabu lands head first on the floor! The ref takes about 5 minutes to count to 10 and Shane is declared the winner in 19.30. Paul E. jumps in the ring and makes the foolish decision to nail Hughes in the back of the head with his phone. Hughes nails Paul E. 911 gets in the ring and chokeslams the ref and Shane! Hughes nails 911 a few times but then gets grabbed and chokeslammed down. Angel comes from behind and nails 911 he grabs her and gives her a chokeslam has the crowd goes wild. Very good match.

Terry leaves and he, Dory and Roc fight to the outside. Screen goes black for about 30 seconds. Dory chases Roc back to the ring with a garbage can and beats the shit out of him with it and nails the ref also. Grunge gets wire cutters from the ref and nails Dory with them. Terry makes it back to the ring and gets beat on my Roc. Grunge cuts the wire and they wrap it al around funk and nail him with a chair. John Finnegan comes to ring side and makes the 3 count. PE retain in 12.53. Dory nails them with a few chairs and Terry tries to get out of the wire but is stuck. The Funks pick up the chairs and bury PE in them. The Funks continue to beat on PE. Both teams hear cheers from the fans as we close with an ECW chant.

My thoughts on the show…
A much much better show than I expected. All three title matches were good. The Heavyweight being my favorite of the three as well as favorite match of the night. Just about everything else was watchable. 911 and Sabu were over huge. This show is worth checking out.

We get some thoughts from on who they think is going to win the Sabu Cactus Jack match.

Opening video.

Tazmaniac vs. Rockin’ Rebel, ref John Finnegan
Taz attacks before there is even a ref in the ring. After about 30 seconds the ref comes out and calls for the bell. Rebel hits a clothesline and back elbow. Rebel goes up top but Taz cuts him off and hits a super belly to belly for the win in 1.05. Jason and Pitbull hit the ring and go after Taz. Taz manages to fight everyone off as he stands tall in the ring.

“Ironman” Tommy Cairo and Peaches are backstage. Cairo talks about how he’s gotten his ass kicked with the cane lately but he can take it cause he’s a man. He feels like less of a man though for letting Peaches get canned. Some highlights from When World Collides. Woman says she wants her money. Sandman says he has beaten Cairo up over and over again but Cairo still won’t pay up. Woman says they should lock up the house and his car or better yet put a chastity belt on Peaches. HAHA NICE!

Jason is with Pitbull and Rebel. Jason says Taz must be thinking about Jason a lot because he is always trying to get his hands on him. Pitbull takes on TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck tonight and says he will win the title for a second time. Rebel says he will be at ringside to make sure Taz doesn’t interfere. Video packages of Pitbull and Mikey air. HAHA it ends with a title card that reads “The Rematch of the Century (well, not really!). That’s great that they make fun of themselves like that.

Mr. Hughes vs. Chad Austin, ref Jim Molineaux
Before the action really gets started we go to some pre-recorded comments from Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and Hughes. Douglas says that he pays Hughes good money to keep dirty wrestlers hands off him. Hughes says that same thing. Back to the ring and Hughes hits a side walk slam for the win. .21 seconds was shown.

Simply the Best Shane Douglas video package.

Short promos from Paul E. Dangerously and Cactus Jack hyping the match this Friday. Tod Gordon says that he has told the refs to give the wrestlers even more leeway when it comes to the rules so that we have a definitive winner.

TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck vs. Pitbull (w/ Jason & Rockin’ Rebel), ref Jim Molineaux
“Run Mikey Run!” is your chant for the match. Pitbull takes it right to the floor and sends Mikey to the guard rail nails him with a chair and press slams him through a table! Back in the ring Pitbull beats on Mikey. I’m sure this will happen until he gets DQed. Commercial break. Back from break and Pitbull beats on Mikey a bit more. Pitbull locks in a full nelson and the ref calls for the bell in 5.02 giving Pitbull the win and title. Pitbull doesn’t let go of the hold and the ref reverses the decision and Mikey retains the title.

Jason, Pitbull and Rebel are backstage again and Jason talks about how he used to be a hopeful just like Mikey but no ref or wrestlers ever helped him like they help Mikey. Rebel says this Friday he is going to hit Mikey with a clothesline and pin him and not mess around. Pitbull talks about how he is going to take out Taz again.

Tag Team Champions Public Enemy vs. Joel Hartgood & Dino Sendoff, ref Jim Molineaux
Hartgood and Sendoff just run out of the ring and into the locker room. PE come back out getting beat up by the Bad Breed. Back in the ring PE fight back and use the belts to bloody the Rotten brothers. “Flyboy” Rocco Roc says they are coming after the Funks this Friday night.

PE are now outside and they are talking about how last year they were homeless. Roc says that someone came to the they and offered them money to take out Funk and they had to take it because there is no way they are going back to sleep on the streets.

Paul E is backstage and Sabu is being held back by 911 and another handler. Paul E hypes the match coming up saying Sabu is the craziest man in wrestling. Cactus Jack also hypes this Friday’s main event!

My thoughts on the show…
Good show to lead us into Hostile City Showdown. All the right things were highlighted to get across exactly what we should expect this coming Friday.

Champions
Heavyweight: “The Franchise” Shane Douglas
TV: Mikey Whipwreck

Joey Styles is back!!! Thank god!

Tommy Dreamer vs. Hack Meyers, ref Jim Molineaux
Long boring match with Meyers in control but not doing much. Dreamer eventually reverses a corner whip and comes off the top with a splash for the pin in 6.49.

Chad Austin vs. Don E Allen, ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
The “911” chant starts right away and he hits the ring!!!!! 911 grabs Moore and chokeslams him. Allen and Austin go after him. There they go. He grabs the ref again but Tod Gordon comes out and shoves Paul E Dangerously to the mat. 911 grabs Gordon and hits him a chokeslam!! Gordon gets another one. They both look like shit and kinda kill the crowd a bit. Dreamer comes out and checks on Gordon and goes after 911. Big mistake as he goes up and down.

Dog Collar Match: Pitbull (w/ Jason) vs. Tazmaniac, ref John Finnegan
Taz its the ring but Jason and Pitbull clothesline him with the chain. Pitbull puts the collar on Taz and then brings him to the floor where the brawl. Back in the ring Pitbull hits 3 buckles and when he goes for the 4th Taz yanks on the chain super hard and Pitbulls head snaps back. Pitbull with a belly to belly for 2. Apparently you can pin in the this match to. Taz with a tbone for 2. Pitbull drags Taz by the chain and hits 3 corners Taz hits the corners right behind Pitbull. At the 4th buckle Taz grabs Pitbull and nails a half nelson suplex for 3 in 7.42. After the match someone hits the ring and goes after Taz. It’s Pitbull 2 making his debut in ECW! The Pitbulls beat down Taz and hang him with the chain!

Heavyweight Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas & Mr. Hughes vs. Bruise Brothers, ref Jim Molineaux
They brawl a bit and then Shane ends up in the ring with one of the Harris brothers. Shane hits a belly to belly and then Hughes comes in. All 4 money then start to brawl. Hughes with a sidewalk slam but the ref is on the outside with Douglas. The Harris brother breaks away from Shane and goes and stomps on Hughes. Hughes rolls over and gets cover and pinned? 8.39. What the fuck was that finish? After the match Hughes gets on the mic and talks shit to about the Bruise Brothers.

Singapore Cane on a Pole Match: Sandman (w/ Woman) vs. “Ironman” Tommy Cairo (w/ Peaches), ref John Finnegan
Cairo with a belly to back early on and a spin kick that sends Sandman to the floor. Cairo drops an elbow and then hits a flying body attack off the top rope. Cairo goes for the cover but you have to get the cane to win. Idiot. Sandman takes over and leg drops Cairo through a table. Sandman goes after the cane but gets super belly to bellied to the mat. Cairo with a DDT. Woman goes under the ring and hands Sandman a second cane. Sandman nails Cairo and gets DQed. Sandman continues to nail Cairo. Peaches comes in and gets shoved down to the mat. Peaches covers Cairo and Woman hits her with the cane. Cairo is bleeding from his arm from all the cane shots. “Pay your bills” chant starts up.

We go back and see the history of why this match is happening.

Tag Team Champions Public Enemy vs. Funk Brothers, ref Jim Molineaux
Nice ovation for the Funks. Joey expects a classic wrestling match. This is non title. Terry Funk starts off with “Flyboy” Rocco Roc. I always thought PE was a joke until I started doing these reviews and then realized that they were a pretty serious tag team that just acted silly at times in promos. Roc asks for Dory and he tags in and nails Rocco with a forearm. Grunge wants a piece of Dory now so he tags in. Dory nails Grunge with a forearm. Terry tags in and gets a head lock on Grunge. The Funks switch in and out Terry hits a power bomb on Grunge! They go to the floor where Grunge tries to get the upper hand but Terry no sells some punches. Roc takes a chair to the head. PE throw some chairs at the Funks but the Funks block them and use them on PE. PE finally able to use the chairs to gain the advantage as we come up on 8 minutes. PE turns the match into a brawl. Roc tries to fly out of the ring but Dory moves and he nails Grunge. Dory busts open Roc and Grunge bloodies Terry on the floor. Paul E Dangerously and 911 come to ringside. 911 chokeslams the ref and then Paul E counts a 3 for PE. Terry comes back in the ring and the fight rages on. Grunge now bustard open. Terry, 911 and Roc are up in the eagle’s nest. Funk ties up Roc’s legs and throws him over the ledge hanging him upside down. Holy shit it looked like he was going to fall for a second there. Grunge saves Roc with a chair and the Funks leave to big cheers. Things broke down at like 13 and a half minutes and the brawl went on for a few more after that.

TV Champion Mikey Whipwreck vs. Rockin’ Rebel (w/ Jason), ref Jim Molineaux
Wait why is the ref that just got a 911 chokeslam back already? Rebel attacks Mikey before the bell. Rebel with a clothesline, pile driver and spin buster but he doesn’t cover. Hey remember on the last TV when he said he was going to hit one move and then pin him…. Side slam by Rebel. Jason trips up Mikey and then gets on the apron to argue with the ref. Mikey gets sent into the rope leap frogs Rebel and nails Jason. Joey says this is Mikey’s first ever offensive maneuver and he may be correct. Rebel grabs Mikey and Jason goes to him him with a chair. Mikey moves and it nails Rebel. Mikey attacks Jason and gets in a few shots until Rebel attacks again. Tazmaniac makes the save but is quickly over come with the Pitbulls hit the ring. Jason and his men spend a few minutes beating down Taz and leave him laying in the ring. Official ruling of the match is Mikey wins by DQ.

Sabu (w/ Paul E. Danerously & 911) vs. Cactus Jack, ref John Finnegan
Sabu with three straight kicks to the back of Jack’s head. Sabu with a mice looking belly to back suplex. Spin kick sends Jack to the floor and Sabu runs towards him and goes for a dive but Jack runs out of the way. Sabu puts on the breaks and stops himself. Sabu now goes to the floor and gets a chair. Sabu goes back in the ring and this time he hits a dive. Back in the ring and Sabu with air sabu. Cactus really taking a beating for the first few minutes here. Sabu goes for it again but Jack knocks Sabu out of the air. Cactus with a clothesline sending them over the top to the floor. Cactus now gets his hands on a chair and nails Sabu. Jack with the elbow from the apron. Back in the ring Cactus goes up top but misses a somersault senton. Sabu with a springboard leg drop for 2. Cacuts goes for a suplex and Jack slips behind and grabs a waist lock. Sabu runs towards the ropes and they spill to the floor. Sabu puts Cactus on a table and climbs the guardrail and comes off with a leg drop putting them through the table. Sabu charges Cactus but gets a stun gun on the rail. Cactus with a belly to back on the floor. Sabu with a springboard moonsault into the crowd to put Cactus through a table. Cactus though up first and they go back into the ring and Cactus almost gets a 3. I’m now thinking Sabu missed with that moonsault. Cactus drives Sabu into a corner and then charges at Sabu. Paul E has jumped up on the apron and he nails Jack with his phone just as Jack crashes into Sabu. They both fall to the mat with Sabu landing on top and getting the pin in 12.43. 911 goes after Jack but Jack is able to fight him off and breaks his skull with a chair shot! 911 goes down!!! Seriously that was a nasty sounding shot. Mr. Hughes comes out and goes after Jack. Why is he helping Sabu and Paul E? Shane Douglas comes out and pulls Hughes back. The Bruise Brothers are out now and they go after Hughes and Shane. Sabu dives on everyone. Cactus and Sabu brawl through the crowd and back into the ring. Sabu breaks a bottle on Cactus’ head!! “That’s assault….anywhere else” nice one Joey. Sabu throws Cactus through a table and then comes off the top with a moonsault. Jack pops up and suplexes the table onto Sabu.

We go backstage to after the show and Cactus talks about who the WCW Tag Team Title is very dear to him. He then spits on the title and throws it down! Jack says he doesn’t care about the title because he came to ECW and gave his greatest performance but still lost. Cactus says he’s going to eliminate the competition. Cactus is tired of being a family friendly wrestler and his contract with WCW doesn’t mean anything to him because it’s time Mrs. Foley’s little boy comes home. BANG BANG!

Paul E says that he has never seen a man get beat up the way Cactus got beat up still get up and smile. Paul E says Sabu has finally met his match. Sabu won nothing tonight because Cactus is still breathing. Cactus will still be able to make money for WCW when he shows up on their next PPV. Paul E says Sabu’s now in ECW not to win a title but to destroy Cactus Jack.

My thoughts on the show…
Pretty bad show here. Most of the matches stunk. The stuff with Taz and Jason’s guys after the two matches was pretty good. 911 always gets thumbs up from me. Our two biggest matches of the night were the main event and the Funk Brothers/PE. The tag match did not deliver. Dory no sold just about everything and it was overall pretty slow. The aftermath was pretty good though. Main event was a real good brawl with it not being to over to top crazy and having a fair amount of in ring action. The promos at the end were excellent. Main event is a worthwhile watch but no real need to bother with the whole thing.

Last Friday night Terry Funk hung “Flyboy” Rocco Roc by his feet from the Eagle’s Nest!

Opening video.

Dory Funk Jr. & Terry Funk vs. Hack Meyers & Steve Richards, ref John Finnegan
Ugh Joey is not back on TV yet. The audio for the home video was probably added at a later date some Joey should be back soon. Funk and Hack start off. Hack sends Funk into the corner but Dory rushes over and lays across them to block Terry from hitting the buckle. Both teams tag. Dory nails Richards with three uppercut forearms. Double underhook by Dory gets only a 1 count. Terry tags him and chops the shit out of Richards. Terry throws Richards into the corner and allows him to tag. Terry throws Hack out of the ring and Dory nails him with a chair. Dory tags in and hits a double underhook on Hack. Terry comes in and gets slammed a few times and in comes Richards and he nails a super kick. Followed by a second for 2. Terry is bleeding Funk comes back and nails a pile driver. Terry and Dory tag back and forth like six times and trade side headlocks. They really wrench it on. Dory with a side headlock take down and he pins Richards after 8.24. Interesting finish and went much longer than I expected.

We go right to some highlights of the Funks taking on Tag Team Champions Public Enemy from Hostile City Showdown. PE are in the South Bronx. Rocco Roc talks about being hung by the neck..ummm feet you mean. On July 16th PE tells us that they have the Funk brothers in a Barbed Wire Match. Johnny Grunge hypes the match and looks into the wrong camera the whole time. Good promo though.

Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas is with Mr. Hughes. Douglas hypes their cage match with the Bruise Brothers later on tonight. Douglas says he took away the Bruise Brothers greatest asset of brawling outside the ring and gave himself the advantage by making the match happen in the ring. Hughes cuts a good promo talking about the whooping he’s going to give the Bruise Brothers. Although I’m not so sure I can take him as a threat anymore after watching him can defeated with a gentle kick to the back of the head. The Harris’ talk about how they are going to beat up Hughes and Douglas.

Already signed to July 16th is the Barbed Wire Match, Douglas defends against Sabu and Sandman takes on “Ironman” Tommy Cairo in a Dueling Cane Match in which both men start the match with a cane in hand.

Highlights videos of Sabu and Chad Austin air. They face each other next week.

Sandman and Woman caned the crap out of Cairo and Peaches at Hostile City Showdown and we see the ending of that segment. Sandman and Woman tell Cairo that his bills are due.

Cage Match: Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas & Mr. Hughes vs. Bruise Brothers, refs Jim Molineaux & John Finnegan
Shane cuts a similar promo from before just shorter. Bruise Brothers hit the ring and they brawl for a bit but then things calm down and it becomes a regular tag match. Pinfall or the legal man in the ring escapes. Douglas starts in the ring but does not fair well and gets hit with a belly to back suplex and we go to break. Back from break and Shane is still being beat on by both Harris brothers. Douglas finally able to break away long enough to tag Hughes. Hughes comes in and hits a drop kick. Hughes and Douglas back and forth beat on Harris and he is busted wide open. We go to a break and when we come back Shane is bleeding but hits a belly to belly. Paul E. Dangerously joins in on commentary. Hughes and Douglas again tagging back and forth and they are all over the Harris. Harris goes low on Hughes and tags. I notice that this Harris is bleeding also. This means that the last break must have cut a lot out as Shane was bleeding and the Harris brothers had tagged and that one also got busted open. Harris comes in but is quickly stopped and Douglas and Hughes take back over. Douglas with a DDT. Paul E has been ranting for this whole time about how Willie “Scoop” Watts is terrible and how everyone is going to turn off the TV so no one will show up on July 16th cause they won’t know about it. Paul E is so great he must have said July 16th about 100 times. That date is now drilled into my head so I will surely remember when the next show is. Bruise Brothers in control now and Shane tries to crawl away. Big boot to Shane and he falls through the door and onto the floor getting the win for his team. 18.20 of the match was shown.

We end with a very short portion of the Paul E promo from Hostile City Showdown and then we get the whole Cactus Jack one.

My thoughts on the show…
I liked this weeks episode. The cage match dragged just a bit though. Looks like the July 16th show is going to be a bunch of rematches from the last card.
