Possible Plans For Ric Flair’s Return To WWE TV, More

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

We noted before that WWE had an offer on the table for Ric Flair to return to TV in a more prominent role. Flair was scheduled to go to Pittsburgh this week to see Dr. Joseph Maroon for a full cardiovascular physical before WWE brings him back to TV as a regular character. Flair has been working out and wants to get to 225 pounds before returning to TV. He’s currently at 230.

There’s a feeling that Flair has to come in as a babyface but he always prefers to work as a heel so there’s on word yet on what role he will play. One idea suggested was to put Flair with The Miz to continue the storyline they began several months ago when Miz began using the Figure Four after Flair’s blessing. The hope is that Flair will help elevate Miz as a top babyface. There are some who believe this could be wasting Flair and that Miz is damaged goods.

Flair reportedly wants to manage Dolph Ziggler but it’s clear WWE hasn’t been pushing Ziggler for more than a year now. They also discussed having Flair manage The Shield to continue the angle from RAW a few weeks back but Evolution’s future is up in the air.

With the most recent deal that Flair signed with WWE, they still have to approve all of his appearances. A problem could be brewing as there are reportedly negotiations, which could easily fall through, for an overseas wrestling tour that would see flair actually wrestling in the ring.

Concern Over Vince Making Changes, Workers Joke About Future Of The Network, More

Source: PWInsider Elite

There was a lot of fear over Vince McMahon before the WWE Business Outlook conference call on Monday morning. It’s said that Vince feels that his management team, not including George Barrios, led him to believe that they would be getting more for their TV deals. There was some concern over major changes being handed down by Vince but we haven’t heard of any departures yet. It was noted that if Vince isn’t happy, things are going to happen quickly.

People within WWE were actually joking last Friday that maybe these financial troubles will mean that the WWE Network goes away quickly but that is highly unlikely to happen.

However, there is still a feeling that the Network isn’t producing subscribers as quickly as Vince would want.

Bill Goldberg Talks Possible Return To WWE, Which Stars He Would Like To Face, More

0

Bill Goldberg’s new interview with Jim Ross on The Ross Report is now online at this link.
Goldberg confirmed that he had recent talks with WWE about returning to the ring but they didn’t go that far. Goldberg did let the company know that he’s interested.

Regarding a potential return feud, Goldberg named Roman Reigns, Triple H and Brock Lesnar as potential stars he would like to face but said he would let WWE decide those details. He said he will always have unfinished business with Triple H and Lesnar but would be interested in facing Reigns because they both played college football in Georgia.

Goldberg noted that he does not watch WWE these days, and hasn’t in years, but hears about some of the things going on through Twitter. He still talks to some wrestlers, including Lesnar, but they never talk about wrestling.

Welterweight Calls Out Matt Brown, TUF Rosters, UFC 173, More

– Robbie Lawler will try to get right back into title contention in the UFC’s welterweight division when he meets Jake Ellenberger this Saturday night at UFC 173: Barao vs. Dillashaw. Check out the segment featuring Lawler and Ellenberger from “Countdown to UFC 173” in the video above.
Lawler (22-10) haad his three-fight win streak snapped by Johny Hendricks in March, losing via decision in a bout to crown a new welterweight champion. Prior to the defeat, “Ruthless” had picked up wins over Rory MacDonald, Bobby Voelker and Josh Koscheck.

Ellenberger (29-7) hasn’t fought since a decision loss to MacDonald last July. He is 7-2 in his last nine overall, including victories vs. Diego Sanchez, Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields.

WrestlingInc.com will have live coverage of UFC 173 this Saturday night, including play-by-play of the main card.

– Some feel Matt Brown should be the next contender to the UFC welterweight title after stringing together a seven-fight win streak. Hector Lombard is not one of those people.

Lombard, a former Bellator champion, recently defeated Jake Shields to improve to 3-2 with the promotion and 34-4-1 overall. Many have mentioned a possible Brown-Lombard fight as a strong candidate for later this year.

On Twitter recently, Lombard stated his displeasure with Brown’s win streak, saying, “Never fought a Former Champion or a top 10 guy and getting all the hype not impressed by you (Matt Brown).”

With many of the top contenders at 170 pounds locked up or injured, the possibility we see Brown-Lombard appears to be very good.

– The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America will air on UFC Fight Pass beginning this August. The season features heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum as head coaches. The two will meet at UFC 180 from Mexico City later this year.

“I’ve been waiting 15 years for this,” UFC president Dana White said. “Passion for fighting is unrivaled in Latin America. It’s part of their history and their culture. There’s a lot of potential in this season’s cast and I know they’re going to bring it every fight. Adding a little extra rivalry – pitting Mexico versus the rest of Latin America – doesn’t hurt either.”

Velasquez will lead bantamweights Marco Beltran, Henry Briones, Alejandro Dominguez and Jose Quinonez, along with featherweights Gabriel Benitez, Masio Fullen, Yair Rodriguez and Rodolfo Rubio. For Werdum, his bantamweights are Guido Cannetti, Fredy Serrano, Bentley Syler and Marlon Vera, along with featherweights Humberto Brown, Leonardo Morales, Diego Rivas and Alex Torres.

What Happened After Raw? Cena, Wyatt, Shield, Barrett, HHH, More

0

After last night’s RAW went off the air, Bray Wyatt noted that John Cena was knocked out of his shoe and held it up as Cena laid on the mat. The Wyatts then issued an open challenge, which was accepted by The Shield as Cena rolled to the outside. The Shield then cleared the ring of the Wyatts and hit a triple powerbomb on Erick Rowan as Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper took off to the back.

The Shield then left to the back. As Rowan was laying in the ring, Bad News Barrett’s music hit. Barrett got in the ring and told Rowan that he had some “bad news,” and then planted Rowan with the Bullhammer. While all this was happening, Cena was still on the outside of the ring.

Rowan went to the back and Cena finally came to and got in the ring. He took the mic and said that he had some bad news, and that he was Sister Abigailed out of his shoe. He then said that tonight belonged to Barrett and London, handed the mic to Barrett and then took off to the back.

Barrett took the mic and said that it was good to be home. He told everyone to come back for SmackDown on Tuesday. Barrett then put over Paige and NXT Champion Adrian Neville, and called Neville one of the greatest high flyers that he’s ever seen.

Barrett’s promo was cut short by Stephanie McMahon, who said that the show was over and told everyone to go home before heading to the back. The lights went out while Barrett was in the ring. Barrett was starting to leave, but the lights came back in. Barrett got back in the ring and started to cut a promo, and then the lights went back out. They came back on, and Barrett said that Stephanie could kiss his “English” ass. The lights would then go back out and on again.

Barrett thanked everyone for coming, and Triple H’s music hit. Triple H stood on the apron and spoke in a sarcastic English accent saying that the show was over. He ripped the English fans hygiene and bad teeth before once again telling the fans to go home. The fans then started doing the Adam Rose theme song chant. There was then a loud “CM Punk” chant before Adam Rose’s music hit.

The crowd started chanting “you’re a lemon” to Triple H. Triple H suggested that English fans squirt some lemon on themselves to smell better. Barrett asked if Triple H was going to stop standing on the apron and get in the ring and do something. Triple H started questioning where Adam Rose had been, and the crowd started the “What?” chants. Barrett said that he would rather hang out with Rose than Triple H. The crowd continued chanting Rose’s theme. Triple H noted that the last guy who tried to hijack the show was in a hospital bed, and said that either they leave the ring or he will kick them out. Barrett then nailed Triple H will the Bullhammer and said that “with that, the show is over!” Barrett then said good night and left the ring. Rose then danced in the ring as his music played to end the show.

WWE Divas Champion Paige Talks About AJ Lee Returning, And More

0

Source: Digital Spy

WWE Divas Champion Paige recently spoke to Digital Spy to promote the current international tour. Below are some highlights:
You’ve been destroying everyone in the ring since that Raw, apart from AJ who’s been absent – how much are you looking forward to her returning and demanding a rematch?

“If she does come, great! I can’t wait, because then it gives me more competition and I know she’s going to be coming straight after me. She’s going to be full of anger and she’s going to be better than ever. The girls so far have given me a great fight. Alicia Fox on Raw the other day really, really stuck it to me! But I still came out victorious. Tamina’s always been very dominating so I’ve really had a good run so far – so I look forward to AJ one day.”

You won the NXT belt by beating Emma – what do you think of her transition to the main roster, and are we getting to see enough of her actually in the ring?

“Emma is incredible, first of all. I really enjoyed every single match I had with her and she deserves everything that she’s getting so far. She’s really, really working hard – she’s definitely a workhorse. She’s just really happy. People have seen what she can do but not what she’s so freaking fantastic at. It’s good that people are seeing it bit by bit. If we just saw it all in our face already, people are going to get tired quickly. The way she’s growing at the minute, she’s doing great. You haven’t seen the best of her yet, definitely not.”

If you could wrestle anyone in history – they don’t have to be another wrestler – who would it be and why?

“Non-wrestlers, it’d be [UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion] Ronda Rousey, because she’s a badass and she’s a big wrestling fan anyway. Wrestling-wise I’ve wrestled a lot of the girls that I’ve really wanted to, like Natalya and Emma. I’d love to wrestle Lita, and Bull Nakano is one of my big inspirations.”
