Update On Marc Mero Needing Heart Surgery

0

As noted a few days back on Crazymax.org, former WWE and WCW star Marc Mero believed he needed heart surgery. Mero posted the following update on Facebook and says he does not need surgery right now:

“Results are in!! I want to thank everyone that has prayed for me & Dar! I just left a meeting with Dr. Lars Svensson at the Cleveland Clinic. Darlene and I were waiting for 4 hours after my tests to hear the results on whether I would need surgery. NO Surgery at least not now! Dr Svensson said my enlarged heart has gotten smaller from 6.3 to 5.9! He also said he was not concerned about my Aorta, that also shrunk!! What??? Praise GOD!! He wants to see me again in 6 months to reevaluate. He did say that he thinks I will eventually need surgery but right now, we are celebrating Faith in God and the power of prayer!

I believe God showed up at the Cleveland Clinic. He does answer prayer! I was prepared to go through a major surgery but had Faith in the power of prayer! Praise GOD and I thank everyone that took the time to pray. I’m flying home tomorrow!!!”

We noted last week that The Miz teased a possible WWE return for his wife Maryse after they were featured on a WWE Power Couple poll. Miz wrote:
“Maryse & my relationship hasnt been on TV yet we are ranked as a WWE power couple Keep voting & maybe ull see #MarMiz”

Maryse addressed the rumors on her Instagram after traveling back from Kelly Kelly’s engagement party, writing that she didn’t miss traveling to 280 cities every year.

She also fueled speculation on her return by following one of the Total Divas make-up artists and dying her hair back to her signature platinum blonde that she wore in WWE.

UFC President Dana White once again stated during a press conference this afternoon that Brock Lesnar is interested in returning to a career in MMA.
“Brock Lesnar’s under contract with the WWE. We have a great relationship with him. He’s healthy and he has said that he’s interested in fighting again,” White stated (props to FOX Sports for the transcription). “We’ll see what happens.”

FOX Sports noted that Lesnar’s current WWE contract expires days after WrestleMania 31.

White has been talking about a potential Lesnar UFC comeback seemingly ever since Lesnar returned to WWE. White even admitted to TMZ this past January that he would love for Lesnar to return to the UFC. He also revealed early last year that Lesnar almost returned to the UFC in 2012 for a superfight with Fedor Emelianenko that would have taken place at Cowboys Stadium in Texas.

“Brock wanted to fight Fedor,” White said at a press conference in 2013. “Then [Fedor’s] dad died, and he was done… After his dad died and he said he was done or whatever, Brock said, ‘I’m done, too.'”

Credit to Raj Giri for covering this story.

Mick Foley has found himself a favorite MMA fighter in UFC female bantamweight Leslie Smith. At UFC 180 this past weekend, Smith was left with a mangled ear in her fight with Jessica Eye.

Foley, who lost part of his own right ear years ago in a wrestling match with Vader, reached out to Smith via social media to express his appreciation for what she went through. Smith, who lost the fight vs. Eye via doctor’s stoppage, saw a huge cut nearly take her left ear off. Highlights of the fight can be found in the video above, including graphic images of the injured ear.

Foley Wrote:

Dear @LeslieSmith_GF – it gets better! DM me if you need support or advice.

“@mgt_stc: Is Leslie Smith the favorite MMA fighter of @realmickfoley ?” She is now!

Another Hint That Eve Could Be Returning To WWE

0

The official WWE website issued a poll that will again fuel rumors of former Diva Eve Torres returning to the sports-entertainment organization.

For a future episode of WWE Countdown on the WWE Network, WWE.com issued this poll today asking fans, “Who is the most dynamic Diva?” The poll is limited to active Divas, with one exception: Eve Torres.

A piece of news last month indicated that Torres could be returning to WWE as an active performer. On Oct. 24, WWE filed a trademark application to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office for “Eve Torres” for the purpose of “wrestling exhibitions and performances by professional wrestlers.” This description matches another performer name the company applied to trademark.

Torres, who become the first person to win the Divas Championship on three occasions, left WWE in January 2013 on her own accord to focus on her role as an instructor for the Gracie Self-defense Program for Women. Earlier this year, she landed a recurring guest role as Reyna Flores on the El Rey television series, Matador. Throughout her hiatus, she has remained linked to WWE as an ambassador.

Colling’s Corner: Billy Kidman And The Push That Should Have Never Happened

2

As a wrestling fan, I can believe just about anything. As long as a story makes sense, any wrestler can become a main event guy in my mind. Of course, the wrestling ability has to be there. However, there was that ONE time I just couldn’t wrap my brain around a push.

Enter Billy Kidman. After a run as a flunky member of Raven’s WCW Flock, at 5’11’’, Kidman gained success in the Cruiserweight division of WCW starting in late 1998 and wound up winning the championship on three separate occasions during the title’s existence  as part of WCW. By mid-1999, Kidman would win the WCW World Tag Team Championships with Rey Mysterio Jr., and was part of an apparent youth movement in the company.

I was all for a youth movement for the company, as it was much needed by that point. With the ratings slipping and fans losing interest fast, WCW needed to push their talented young wrestlers into the main event scene.

Sadly, Billy Kidman just wasn’t believable in that role. When the New Blood formed in April of 2000, Kidman was projected as one of the leaders. He would enter into a feud with Hulk Hogan, and actually wound up beating Hogan several times on television.

Don’t ever say Hogan never laid on his back for anyone. He allowed Kidman to get wins in an attempt to make him a star.

But the wins did more harm than they did good. I mean, you’ve got Hulk Hogan who feuded with the likes of Andre the Giant, Earthquake, Randy Savage, Warrior, Sting, and Sid Justice, among countless others, but loses to the cruiserweight Billy Kidman.

I’m not discrediting Kidman’s ability. The guy was great in the ring with the likes of Mysterio, Juventud Guerrera, Psychosis, Chavo Guerrero Jr., and the other cruiserweight wrestlers. When it came to competing against the likes of Hulk Hogan, it just didn’t work.

Some people may be wondering why Kidman wouldn’t work in the role, but someone like Rey Mysterio Jr. did. That’s a great question. It took Rey four years to become a WWE Heavyweight Champion when he entered the WWE. At first he started as a cruiserweight and worked his way up to being a believable contender. We were expected to buy into Kidman almost overnight. He went from a cruiserweight to challenging Hulkamania. It doesn’t help that Kidman was stuck in a heel role while his offense was hard to boo. I can’t possibly go to an arena and boo someone who hits a move like the shooting star press. Certainly not the greatest heel finisher.

I understand that at the time WCW was completely depleted of stars thanks to the Radicals bailing on the company for the WWE, as well as guys like Raven and Jericho gone from the company, but it was creative moves like this that damaged WCW’s image in its dying days.

At the most, Kidman would have been a fine WCW US Champion, but to even suggest he would have been main eventing pay per views with the likes of Hogan, Goldberg, Nash or Sting at any time is rather laughable.

Did you buy into a main event push for Kidman? Leave your thoughts below.
