JR On Brock Not Wanting To End Streak, Shawn Michaels On Leaving WrestleMania Early, More

0

Wrestling correspondent Scott H. was at “An Evening with Shawn Michaels” in Manchester, United Kingdom this past Monday. The night was originally supposed to be hosted by Jim Ross, but JR and HBK did the show together on stage. Below are some highlights from Scott, we will have more from the Q&A later this week.

* Jim Ross is asked about what Jerry “The King” Lawler is like on the road, and he says he is true fun, especially if you are female and under 25. JR says King loves to sing Beatles song in his full Memphis accent and that when WWE is in Liverpool, King loves doing the Beatles tour.

* The talk turns to Sherri Martel. HBK says Sherri was without a doubt a major influence on his career. He talks about how Sherri used to kick people outside of the ring if they refused to sell for him. JR talks about how talented Sherri was a worker, how she never ever took away from the talent and that today’s Divas should focus 10 minutes of their day watching Sherri Martel instead of shopping on Louis Vuitton.

* The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak ending is discussed, and Michaels admits that he wasn’t a fan of the decision, and neither was JR. JR talked about Brock Lesnar not wanting to beat the streak and asking to lose the match, but the decision had been made.

* Shawn talks about how he was suppose to be part of a team of former champions who went out to the ring to celebrate with Daniel Bryan over his title win at WrestleMania XXX, but HBK refused after the way the crowd reacted after Brock’s victory, so he left the Superdome early.

* Asked about current talent, Shawn said that all three members of the Shield are good workers, but he doesn’t really watch the product much these days.

* The art of selling is discussed, and JR says that today’s product lacks it, far too much. JR tells talent that if they want to learn how to sell, watch Shawn Michaels, Ricky Morton, Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat.

* JR says that NXT is the most important aspect of WWE’s business model. He says WWE can go to Wall Street and get a VP from anywhere but they can’t just go and grab Sami Zayn, Neville, Finn Balor or Kevin Owens from just anywhere.

We will have a lot more highlights from the Q&A later throughout the week.

Looks like the UFC 189 headline fight between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor may be a sunk ship as reports are out the Aldo suffered a fractured rib in training.

The injury bug couldn’t have bitten much harder than this. It looks like the UFC 189 headliner between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and challenger Conor McGregor may be in jeopardy. Reports are surfacing that Aldo has suffered an injury in training. Further examinations apparently found that he’d fractured rib. No news yet as to whether this will cancel his bout with Conor McGregor, however it’s hard to see the fight going ahead with such a severe injury just two and half weeks out from the day.

JBL Weighs In On Confederate Flag Controversy

1

The Confederate Flag is a big topic of discussion this week following the recent Charleston, South Carolina tragedy where 9 church-goers were murdered in a historic black church. Several states are no longer displaying the flag in various places and major retailers like Walmart and Amazon are no longer selling items with the flag. WWE announcer JBL weighed in on the controversy via his Facebook page today:

Gonna be on my friend Jerry Doyle’s show tonight talking about Confederate Flag issue. Amazing to me that the flag was born out of biggest treasonous event in our country’s history and the core problem was owning another race of human beings as slaves-yet, some want to claim that these four years (1861-1865), that a flag that was never even adopted as the Confederacy Flag is ‘their heritage’.
A lot of soldiers died for this flag-so did a lot of soldiers die for the Nazi flag, sorry to say those lives were wasted in both cases.

The flag came into prominence because of the Klan and white supremacists after the war-some heritage. I think if a person wants to put out s symbol of hate and discrimination and hang it on their private property-they have every right to do so, even though I hate it. But I think government should not be allowed to display it publicly except a museum of history-and only in a case inside.

I hope we can move on from something as disgraceful as this flag.

Kurt Angle Talks Destination America Wanting Him As Champ, EC3 Explains Why He’s Played Politics

0

On today’s TNA Impact/Slammiversary conference call, Kurt Angle and Ethan Carter III hyped their upcoming TNA Championship bout. On the call, Angle and EC3 spoke directly to us at Wrestling Inc, as we asked about Angle’s feelings on the rumors of Destination America wanting him as champion.

“Destination America has done a tremendous job in supporting me as World Heavyweight Champion,” Angle explained. “I’m sure it has a lot to do with the red, white and blue. I’m a gold medalist, so I knew that they wanted me to become champion and carry the company. That made me feel really good. It felt good to have a network that’s around you.”

Angle also said that he’s enjoyed EC3’s political campaign on Impact, but that Carter deserved the spot. He even noted that he went to TNA executives last year and said they’re going to have to put the title on EC3 sometime soon.

Carter’s political campaign has seen him take an all-American route, leading many to speculate it was a conscious effort to get Destination America behind him. Carter commented on the situation.

“If I was a television show and I was fantasy booking, and I was about America, my number one draft pick would be the only Olympic Gold Medalist in wrestling history, Kurt Angle, so I understand them giving him the burden of carrying the company. He’s the ultimate American, but we play it out in the ring,” said Carter.

“We play it out in the ring, but sometimes to get to the ring, you have to play politics. Every top star has played politics at some point in their career. I’ve remained unpinned, unsubmitted, and never granted a title shot. I looked at what the greats did, so the campaign was a political move to put my name out there as someone who could carry the company and end maybe Kurt Angle’s title reign,” Carter said.

Kurt Angle and EC3 will square off for the World Title next Wednesday, July 1.

WWE Injury Updates On Jamie Noble, Erick Rowan, Tyson Kidd

0

WWE confirmed the injury to Jamie Noble on their website, and stated that his condition was “being evaluated.”

Noble stated on Twitter that he suffered three broken ribs. He noted that he was given oxygen because he couldn’t breathe at first. Below are his tweets:

I would like to thank WWE staff and all the fans for nice messages. I have 3 broke ribs. Couldn’t breathe at first.
— Jamie Noble (@WWENoble) June 23, 2015

Team WWE didn’t take any chances with my health thank you!!!
— Jamie Noble (@WWENoble) June 23, 2015

WWE Champion Seth Rollins replied:
Always got my 6! A true warrior and champion. #wereback https://t.co/5CVCnkllf7
— Seth Rollins (@WWERollins) June 23, 2015

As far as we know the broken ribs suffered by Jamie Noble at last night’s RAW are legit and not part of a storyline but anything is possible. WWE is crediting Brock Lesnar with causing the injury. Several fans in attendance last night noted that there was a lot of chaos at ringside that didn’t make it onto TV. More than one WWE official threw up the “X” sign and some appeared to be genuinely concerned. There’s been some fan speculation online that this could be an angle with Lesnar taking out The Authority leading up to his match with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at Battleground.

– Regarding the injury Erick Rowan suffered at Friday’s WWE live event in Saginaw, Michigan, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that it’s some sort of arm injury but it is believed to be serious or significant. It’s worth noting that despite the injury being serious, Rowan did work the next night.

– Tyson Kidd’s neck surgery is taking place on Wednesday and he should be out of action for more than a year. Kidd is having the same kind of neck surgery that Steve Austin, Edge and Chris Benoit had, usually with a turnaround time of 14 months or so. Kidd is not going with a temporary fix for the injury and is doing the right thing by having the full surgery.
