List of Top 10 Potential Mystery Entrants for Royal Rumble

1

Over the last couple weeks people have started to talk. We’ve seen a few different versions of the Royal Rumble list of competitors pop up online. Some have up to 25 names listed, however, WWE.com has only confirmed 20 (21 if you count Bad News Barrett whose name has disappeared from the list).

With several spots remaining, there’s been plenty of discussion as to who some of the mystery entrants in the Royal Rumble will be. Now, there’s no doubt that some of the remaining 10 spots will be filled with current WWE superstars, but here’s a look at some of the recently speculated names.

– Christian: Has been ready to return for some time. Was last seen as part of the group of former World Champions in the ring during the December 2013 Raw to hype the Title unification match.

– Sheamus: Has pretty much been off TV since the injury he sustained at the Money in the Bank PPV. Sheamus had made public posts a month or two back, claiming that his injury rehab was slower than expected, and gave a return timetable of POST Royal Rumble. Many believe this was just to throw people off. The fact that WWE hasn’t even mentioned Sheamus’ name in recent weeks leads me to believe he is a likely candidate for the big returning name this year. It’s also been said by credible sources that Sheamus has been cleared for a return. He will already be in Pittsburgh this weekend for an unrelated event, so the timing is right.

– Jake “The Snake” Roberts: While rehabbing in DDP’s crib, Jake has made no bones about his interest in entering the Royal Rumble match. Jake’s return at Old School Raw also got the fans talking. It’s a potential possibility to see Jake back at the Rumble after his warm reception on Raw. Let’s just hope his recent Warrior tweets didn’t screw this up for him.

– Chris Jericho: Like Sheamus, Jericho will be in Pittsburgh this weekend for an unrelated public appearance. This puts Chris in a position to work the PPV. Jericho recently signed a deal for Fozzy to work a big concert in Columbus, OH so it’s a possibility we get Jericho on a one night only performance as part of the Rumble.

– RVD: Another of the obvious. If the terms are right, we could see RVD back by the Rumble in time for a WrestleMania payday.

– Evan Borne: Cleared for a return and just waiting to be written back in. Given the issues he’s had the past couple of years and the less than outstanding pop he would receive, it’s not likely Evan will be used as a surprise entrant, but never say never.

– Dolph Ziggler: Ziggler is to undergo concussion tests the morning of the Royal Rumble PPV, no doubt in an attempt to work him into a match that he excels in. Should the #heel be cleared, I imagine he will be entering the Rumble match!

– The New Age Outlaws: Not the biggest of surprises, but with Goldust & Cody Rhodes already playing double duty on the show, it’s likely the Outlaws could do the same. Look for the Outlaws to try and eliminate CM Punk, either as legal entrants, or simply running interference on behalf of “The Authority”.

– Daniel Bryan: After working a match with Bray Wyatt, wouldn’t it be an unexpected surprise to see Daniel Bryan draw #30? Or maybe take out Rowan and replace his spot in the match? Wouldn’t you like to see Bryan come from out of nowhere to headline WrestleMania? My answer is Yes! Yes! Yes!

Those are my top 10 likely surprise entrants. As I said, I don’t expect 10 mystery entrants as I suspect guys like Ryback, Cesaro & Swagger will fill some of the currently opened entrant spots. Nevertheless, these are just some of the potential surprises, let’s hope they think outside the box for a REAL surprise!

CM Punk to Retire?

0

According to PWInsider, CM Punk’s current contract with WWE will be expiring this July according to a source. The WWE Payback PPV will be held on 6/1 in Chicago in what could turn out to be Punk’s farewell performance in his hometown with WWE if he doesn’t agree to a new deal.

Punk has stated publicly for the last two years that he planned to retire from wrestling in the next few years. Mix that with Punk’s recent anti-company tweets and it’s more than just a rumor, it’s a real possibility.

Sting “Looking Good” for WWE Debut

0

WON reports that WWE officials have reportedly believed for months that Sting was coming in during 2014 and it’s been talked about even more like it’s going to happen recently. One source close to Sting says things are “looking good” for a Sting debut in 2014. I guess it’s never too late.

For years now, WWE has attempted to work Sting into their WrestleMania plans. The most notable year was when the internet was abuzz about a potential Sting vs. Undertaker match. This match has been discussed again this year and may very well finally take place.

WWE Network Planning Live Specials on WrestleMania Weekend?

0

– WWE is planning to run a ton of “live feeds” on the WWE Network during WrestleMania XXX week. This will include things from AXXESS (including mini-wrestling events) as well as parts, if not the entire WWE Hall of Fame and more. The reason for this is because they want to test their live streaming and offer more exclusive content for their subscribers. The WWE Network will be something you’ll want to have for all your WrestleMania weekend needs!

Dolph Ziggler to Return @ The Royal Rumble?

0

WWE stars Dolph Ziggler and The Miz were interviewed by CBS Cleveland entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet prior to “WWE Night” at the Cleveland Cavaliers’s NBA game Wednesday night.

Ziggler notably said he is scheduled to be at the Royal Rumble PPV on Sunday to have his concussion recovery evaluated.

“I wish I had some answer for you,” Ziggler said on whether he will be in the Rumble match. “I’ve gone through a couple different tests. They’ve all been coming back very positively, which is I’m healing very well. Sunday, I will be there to get checked out.” Miz chimed in: “So, it could happen.”

Overall, Ziggler said he’s progressing toward returning to the ring. “I’m actually feeling pretty good. I’ve had a couple weeks to rest and not fall down,” Ziggler said. “I’m back in the gym, feeling good, really looking forward to getting back in the ring real soon.”

Also of note from the interview is Miz and Ziggler said they want to see Ultimate Warrior wrestle one more match, but essentially just do the routine of music, run to the ring, three clotheslines, splash, pin, and leave. Miz, who grew up a Warrior fan, half-seriously volunteered to be the guy to take the fall just for it to happen.

Ziggler added, “All he has to do is run down. I go, ‘I’ll get clotheslined. He’ll get clotheslined.'” Miz chimed in: “I’ll do it! Sign me up!” Ziggler added: “Ten seconds. The place would blow the roof off.”

Sin Cara Scheduling Bookings Outside of WWE?

1

As previously reported, the original Sin Cara (Mistico) is currently being advertised for the March 1st Baja Stars Wrestling event in Tijuana. This date will be after his current WWE contract expires so it does look like they are going to cut him loose. Hunico will continue working under the Sin Cara mask so the company can continue selling his merchandise.

For what it’s worth, Mistico’s brother says this is not the case and he will not be working the Tijuana show. Cara did recently tweet that he would be appearing at the one year anniversary celebration of his Sin Cara Gym in Mexico City. That takes place on February 1st. Following his WWE departure, he’s interested in heading to AAA since he left CMLL on bad terms and they already have their own Mistico replacement.
