WWE Changes Debut Plans For Doc Gallows And Karl Anderson, Update On Balor Club

0

Source: PWInsider Elite

WWE plans for Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson have changed. Officials originally wanted to bring the two to WWE NXT but now they are scheduled for the main roster.

Word is that the former IWGP Tag Team Champions are scheduled to debut on the main roster “around WrestleMania 32 time” but the feeling is that it will be after WrestleMania, not before. At one point WWE wanted to debut them in March but speculation is that they will debut after the biggest show of the year.

Gallows and Anderson are also set to use the “Balor Club” name and logo, or perhaps the “Bulletproof” name that has been teased recently. Obviously this could indicate a main roster call-up for NXT Champion Finn Balor but that wasn’t confirmed with the update on Gallows and Anderson.

Details On Jeff Jarrett And GFW’s ‘Revamped Wrestling Format’ With TV Producers, Major Cable Deal?

0

Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling has partnered with American Ninja Warrior producer A. Smith & Co. Productions for a new series that will create what they call a “revamped wrestling format.”

No official details have been announced yet but it was reported that the series would feature international wrestlers from the GFW roster with the production style that A. Smith & Co. uses on shows such as NBC’s Spartan Race and FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen.

In an exclusive update, the plan is for the show to be a 13-week series. Right now they are looking at doing one new 13-week series every year but obviously something like that would depend on how successful the first series is. They are also looking at eventually running pay-per-view events.

Players involved were meeting this week to work out more details and dates. The plan is to tape matches over several events that will narrow a group of indie wrestlers down to 16. It looks like GFW is partnering with a few established indie promotions on the East and West coast to provide them with talent. Wrestlers will be judged by a panel of three “industry experts” and it looks like that is how they will narrow the field down to 16. Jim Cornette may be one of those judges but I couldn’t confirm that.

The final 16 will be featured at a TV taping in Las Vegas later this year to determine a winner. I’ve heard that they are in talks with a “major cable network” and have plans to announce everything in May, including the TV deal.

It should be noted that the source of this information reiterated how everything is still up in the air and the format could change. There’s a bit of skepticism among veteran indie promoters involved, and some buzz among wrestlers, but a source commented, “Got to commend Jarrett for still trying.”

NJPW ‘New Japan Cup’ Day 2 Results

0

Here are results for day two of the New Japan Cup, courtesy of @BryanHoughting :

Jay White def. David Finley by submission with a boston crab. Ok opener that showed off the young talent.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Juice Williams def. Cody Hall & Yujiro Takahashi by submission when Cody Hall tapped to a Cloverleaf from Tanahashi.

Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask, Yuji Nagata, Hiroshi Tenzan & Manabu Nakanishi def. KUSHIDA, Ryusuke Taguchi, Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma & Katsuyori Shibata by pinfall with Shibata hitting the PK on Nakanishi. This was just a fun match with everyone getting their spots in. This match had some of my favorites though, Shibata, Liger & KUSHIDA, so I was loving this. Liger and KUSHIDA had a staredown at the end so I think we may see that soon. Possibly at Invasion Attack.

YOSHI-HASHI & Kazucha Okada def. BUSHI & EVIL by pinfall when Okada hit BUSHI with the Rain Maker. This match was ok. I expected more from these guys. This has been a decent first half of the show, not as strong as Day 1 though. Round 2 begins now.

New Japan Cup Second Round
Toru Yano def. Satoshi Kojima by pinfall with a roll-up. This one confuses me a little bit I don’t think the right guy one here, but we’ll see where they’re going with it I guess. Yano seems more of a comedy guy and better for tag matches. Kojima was a guy I had in the semis.

New Japan Cup Second Round
Hirooki Goto def. Tama Tonga by pinfall with a Soccer Kick to the chest. It looked like Tama had the fans solidly behind him, which was cool. I am glad they gave Tama a shot to shine in the ring with one of the big dogs in NJPW. It started slow with lots of stalling and Tama trying to get the cheap count out. After that it picked up and was a hard hitting match that just had a good flow to it.

New Japan Cup Second Round
Michael Elgin def. Bad Luck Fale by pinfall when Elgin powerbombed Fale off the second rope. This was intense these 2 bulls beat the $#*+ out of each other. Elgin hit Fale with a high vertical suplex for a near fall and crowd erupted. Elgin will be a star in NJPW for sure. This was MOTN so far.

New Japan Cup Second Round
Tetsuya Naito defeated Tomohiro Ishii by pinfall when Naito reversed a German suplex into his version of the sliced bread on Ishii. This was great, it was back and forth with Naito using every dirty trick he could and still couldn’t keep Ishii down. Even going as far as to slapping him and spitting on him. Ishii hit so many hard shots it was brutal. Naito kicked out of one of the nastiest stone pitbull lariats I’ve ever seen. They had the crowd on its feet the whole time so back and forth so many near falls. Definitely MOTN, the last two matches make this whole card worth going out of your way to watch. Los Ingobernables attacked Ishii after the match.

Make sure to check back next weekend for the finals of the New Japan Cup.

Japanese Wrestling Legend Hayabusa Dies At Age 47

0

The pro wrestling world has suffered a great loss, as Eiji Ezaki, known to wrestling fans as Hayabusa has died at 47 years old.

Reports emerged early Friday of the Japanese legend’s passing due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Tokyo Sports said that Ezaki was found dead on Thursday afternoon.

Ezaki had been confined to a wheelchair for the last 14 years after suffering a career-ending injury inside the ring. During a match against Mammoth Sasaki, Ezaki lost his footing on a springboard moonsault attempt which caused him to land awkwardly, cracking two of his vertebrae, and leading to him being paralyzed.

Ezaki had a fantastic moment in 2014 where he rose from his wheelchair and took steps. He was later able to stand and walk on his own with the aid of a cane.

American pro wrestling fans perhaps best remember Ezaki from the classic ECW match where he teamed with Jensei Shinzaki (Hakushi) to take on Rob Van Dam and Sabu. The match was one of several in a talent exchange and co-promotion between ECW and Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, known as FMW.

Hayabusa was one of the key cogs in FMW, and after his injury, the company withered away. In 2015, it was announced that the company would be revived, with Hayabusa/Ezaki serving as the Executive Producer.

Hayabusa also helped popularize several moves such as the Falcon Arrow and 450 Splash, while also inventing the Phoenix Splash. American fans may also know him as the motivation for the character “Han Zo Mon” in WCW/NWO Revenge video game and “Habanero” in WCW vs. The World.

The Crazy Max Wrestling Community extends our condolences to the friends, family and fans of Ezaki.

Update On AJ Styles Using The Styles Clash In WWE

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

At one point there was talk within WWE about whether or not they should allow AJ Styles to use the Styles Clash.

Vince McMahon reportedly found out that Yoshi Tatsu suffered a broken neck from the move in Japan and wanted to be careful in regards to the move. Styles used the move to defeat Curtis Axel in his second WWE singles match and then WWE officials made the call to use the Calf Crusher as AJ’s finisher.

Styles was reportedly told the Styles Clash would not be his finisher but Chris Jericho wanted it in their WWE Fastlane match because the move was over and would get a reaction. They ended up doing the move then and there were no issues coming from it, so the move is now okay to be used. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter speculates that WWE still wants the Calf Crusher to be AJ’s finisher.

Apparently reports got mixed up as they often do on social media as Styles tweeted the following today:

Who said the styles clash was banned?
