Chris Jericho Talks About CM Punk Walking Out On WWE, Does He Keep Up With WWE?, More

Chris Jericho recently spoke with FOXSports.com. here are some highlights:

WrestleMania XXX is on April 6. Are you excited to watch it or do you not have much interest since you’re not part of the WWE at the moment?
Kind of half and half. I’m not wrestling because I choose not to. I have other things going on. I don’t see myself wresting five years from now, so now is the time to make that transition. I follow the shows more online than anything. I don’t really watch wrestling because there are too many other things I like to watch. If I were at home for a couple of days, I’d rather watch “True Detective” or “Walking Dead” or “House of Cards” than wrestling. WrestleMania, I might check it out if I’m home. But my house isn’t really a wrestling house. My kids don’t care for it, my wife’s not a fan. If I do watch it, it’s more like I have to tape it and watch it later.

The big story in the WWE right now is the status of CM Punk, who walked away from the company a couple of months ago. Did you walk out on the WWE? And what is your opinion on what Punk did?
No. I’ve never done that. When I felt the way that Punk did in ’05, I just waited until my contract was done, and then I left for two-and-a-half years. I never walked out in the middle of a contract, nor would I. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing that Punk did because that’s his decision. I don’t know anything about it. I know as much as everyone else. The thing is, the wrestling business goes on. There’s never been one guy who has ever left and caused the business to shut down. Hulk Hogan left. Bret Hart left. All these guys have left and guess what? They get replaced.

Jim Ross told me that Punk is leaving a ton of money on the table.
Then, he must have made a s—load of money. I walked away from WCW when they offered me a contract, but I had enough. They could’ve paid me $3 million or $5 million or $10 million, and I still didn’t want to be there. If you don’t want to be there, the money is irrelevant. Yeah, you could look at it like he’s walking away from a s—load of money, but he’s also walking away from a situation where he’s saying, “I don’t care what they pay me, it’s not enough. It’s not worth my sanity, and I’m leaving.” It’s easy to play armchair quarterback with this situation, but no one knows what’s going on except Punk, and he’s not talking, so it’s all speculation at this point. The bottom line is, life goes on, the business goes on, and Punk doesn’t seem to worry about it too much because he’s not there.

TNA iMPACT Results for 3/27/14

This first portion was taped on Friday, March 14th.

March 27th episode Results:

* MVP comes out and talks about brawling with Abyss last week. He’s interrupted by Magnus and Abyss. Magnus says Abyss has a contract with him, not MVP or TNA. MVP offers Abyss a title shot and announces Abyss vs. Samoa Joe vs. Magnus for the World Heavyweight Title for next week. Our correspondent notes that this and other details were fuzzy based on the way they apparently taped out of order. Joe comes out and isn’t happy about the match. Joe and Magnus brawl while MVP and Abyss brawl. Eric Young comes out and attacks Abyss. They clear the ring. MVP says instead, next will be Magnus vs. Joe, interrupted and for the title, and Young vs. Abyss. Young and Joe end up arguing. It ended with Young being put into the match. Our correspondent notes it wasn’t clear if the match will be Joe vs. Young vs. Abyss vs. Magnus for the title or Joe vs. Young vs. Magnus for the title next week.

* Gunner defeated James Storm in a no count out, no DQ match. This was described as a very brutal match. Gunner speared Storm through a table at ringside from inside the ring at one point. Gunner got the win after his finisher and a beer bottle shot to the head.

* Angelina Love calls out Velvet Sky. They argue about Madison Rayne and Angelina talks down to Velvet. Angelina mentions she will be facing Madison later on.

* The Wolves defeated Abyss and Magnus when Magnus tapped out. Abyss left with Magnus’ World Heavyweight Title belt after the match was over.

Taped on Saturday night, March 15th for the remainder of the 3/27 show:

* Angelina Love defeated Madison Rayne in a non-title match. Velvet Sky was at ringside and slammed Madison on the floor when the referee wasn’t looking.

* Samoa Joe defeated Eric Young.

* Bobby Roode and Ethan Carter III defeated Willow and Bully Ray in a tables match. Jeff Hardy left to the back after dropkicking Rockstar Spud out of his wheelchair. Ray was double teamed and put through the table for the win. After the match, they put Ray through two more tables.

Sting Reportedly Wrestling Just One Match In WWE Before Retiring Next Year

There is now a working idea within WWE that Sting will wrestle one match and then retire, which everyone presumes will be against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31 in California.

There’s still no confirmation that WWE will make this known at WrestleMania XXX or on RAW the next night. The only thing that’s said to be certain right now is that Sting will do one last match.

Possible Retirement for Christian, His Potential Role Within WWE

Christian suffered a minor concussion on Monday’s RAW in the Fatal 4 Way with Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio. This is Christian’s second concussion within a one year period.

Even before this second concussion, there had been a lot of talk about his active in-ring career coming to an end. Talk started months ago that when Christian’s current contract expires he would probably retire because he was 40, had been getting injured and creative had no real plans for him.

Those stories of him retiring surfaced again this week with the idea that Christian would make a great NXT trainer.

Bret Hart On Who Was Supposed To Be In Owen Hart’s Place For Their Feud

I managed to catch the latest episode of WrestleMania Rewind on the WWE Network tonight, which looked at the Bret Hart – Owen Hart match at WrestleMania X. While this week’s episode was fairly entertaining, like the previous episodes, I would have liked more insight and behind the scenes details about the match.
In my opinion, the biggest thing that wasn’t mentioned at all was how Bret’s older brother, Bruce, was originally slated to be in Owen’s role in that feud.

Bret talked openly about the original plans for the match on Chris Jericho’s podcast, Talk Is Jericho. Bret admitted that Owen was originally brought in to the company in 1988 to be a bottom guy. Owen then left the WWF, but Bret convinced him to come back, only for the same thing to happen. Owen came to him around SummerSlam 1993, where Hart faced Jerry Lawler and Doink The Clown (yes, that was an actual WWE PPV main event), and Owen said that he was leaving the business. Bret felt bad and noted that at that time Vince would talk to him about being short on talent. At one point, Bret told Vince that he was about to lose a great talent with Owen, who is quitting to become a fireman. Vince then said that he would try to find something for him.

WWE then came up with a storyline for Bret to feud with Bruce. Bret didn’t think that he could wrestle Bruce, and noted that Bruce had knee surgery, hadn’t wrestled in a while, “and before that, he couldn’t wrestle that well anyway.” Bret noted that Bruce had a pot belly and was about 40 years old, and it was not going to work, but WWE wanted Bruce. Bret would not think about feuding with Bruce, but would consider Owen.

WWE wanted Bruce to challenge Bret like Owen ended up doing. Owen’s role in the hypothetical feud would come in after Bret wouldn’t accept a match with Bruce until Owen stood up to Bruce for being a bully his whole life. Bruce would then annihilate Owen, leading to Bret accepting the match with Bruce at WrestleMania X. Bret later told Owen about the company’s original plans, who said he would have quit if he they would have done that storyline.

WWE Hiring Jonathan Coachman For His Own Show?

– WWE looks to be either close to or has just signed a new deal with former announcer and current ESPN personality Jonathan Coachman. The two sides have been discussing a part-time gig where Coach would keep his ESPN job but would do in-studio wrap-arounds for WWE. One idea thrown out would be for him to host a WWE talk show for the WWE Network.
