0

Zumhofe, 63, will spend 310 months in prison on two first-degree and two third-degree counts of criminal sexual conduct. The sentences will be served consecutively, and he will have to spend at least 17 years in prison before he’s eligible for release. Zumhofe is also required to serve a 10-year conditional release period, pay $200 in fines and register as a predatory offender.

You can read the full piece from TwinCities.com below.

WILLMAR, Minn. — A former professional wrestler was sentenced Thursday to more than 25 years in prison for molesting a close female relative over a period of years.

Eugene Otto Zumhofe, 63, of Cyrus, received a total of 310 months in prison on two first-degree and two third-degree counts of criminal sexual conduct. District Judge David Mennis ordered the sentences on the four counts to be served consecutively.

As part of the sentence in Kandiyohi County District Court, Mennis also ordered Zumhofe to serve 10 years of conditional release, pay $200 in fines and register as a predatory offender.

Zumhofe, a former pro wrestler known as “Buck Rock ‘N’ Roll Zumhofe” in the 1980s and early 1990s, also faces a felony charge of escape from custody. His first court appearance on that charge had been scheduled with the sentence but was delayed until today.

The allegations include that Zumhofe ran from corrections officers and sheriff’s deputies March 5 after his jury trial.

According to that complaint, after the guilty verdicts were read, Mennis ordered that Zumhofe be taken into custody but Zumhofe’s attorney, Carter Greiner, asked to meet with his client in a conference room. While Zumhofe was being escorted through the hallway, he tried to run but was tackled and subdued by authorities.

The sentences for the criminal sexual conduct convictions, of 115, 91, 52 and 52 months in prison, followed the recommendations of a presentence investigation prepared by Kandiyohi County Corrections.

The woman reported the abuse after seeking therapy and medical care in 2012. She testified during the trial that there were hundreds of acts of sexual abuse over a period of years from 1999 to 2011, starting when she was 15.

Assistant County Attorney Aaron Welch asked the judge to double the sentence to 620 months because Mennis had found that there were aggravating factors, including cruelty and multiple forms of sexual contact with the woman. Zumhofe also had two prior convictions for criminal sexual conduct in 1988 and 1989.

“Mr. Zumhofe shows no remorse for his actions, even if he finally admitted (in the presentence investigation) that they happened,” Welch said. “This is an extreme sentence, but Mr. Zumhofe’s actions can be described as nothing less than extreme.”

Greiner argued that his client wants to submit to treatment and get help, suggesting stayed prison time and probation.

“Mr. Zumhofe is very, very ashamed,” Greiner said. “It’s not easy to come clean.”

If the judge couldn’t hand down such a sentence, Greiner argued for the sentence recommended in the corrections report.

“He will be 80 years old when he gets out,” Greiner argued. “That’s punitive enough.”

Zumhofe did not give a statement during the hearing, declining the opportunity to speak. He was handcuffed and shackled throughout the sentencing.

Know Your History: The John Tenta vs. Koji Kitao “Shoot Fight”

In a professional wrestling industry full of a-holes, John Tenta stood out as one of the good guys. However, there were some individuals who mistook being a good guy as giving a free pass for abuse. John Tenta made sure to stand up for himself, even if it meant embarrassing himself in the process.

Tenta was a successful Sumo wrestler who ended up growing up in Giant Baba’s All Japan system. He ended up leaving for the then-WWF and Baba never forgave him when Tenta would show up for another Japanese promotion. Not just any other promotion, but SWS (Super Wrestle Series). SWS was considered by All Japan fans as the evil “money pro-wrestling” group in the early 90s. Basically, Megane Super (a famous eyeglass company in Japan) was financing a bunch of people in pro-wrestling and decided to get into the act by creating their own wrestling promotion. The business model was simple — if you bought their core business product, you got wrestling tickets as part of the deal. Seemed simple enough, right? SWS banked their hopes on a television deal with upstart cable property WOWOW, which had hopes of becoming the Japanese sports version of HBO. To this day, cable remains an elusive business play in Japan. Network television still rules the roost.

In order to attract anyone of name value, SWS had to spend a lot of cash up front to poach wrestlers from both New Japan & All Japan. It meant that they had to get guys that were veterans or were on their last legs. The promotion’s ace was Gen’ichiro Tenryu, who was Jumbo Tsuruta’s rival in All Japan. Tenryu was a former Sumo wrestler himself and grew up in the All Japan system, so naturally he would have an affinity for John Tenta. Another former Sumo star who SWS tried to build their hopes around was a man named Koji Kitao, famous for having an erratic & violent streak in and out of the ring. Kitao was supposed to be a big babyface.

We know how Tenta was introduced into the WWE ring. He attacked The Ultimate Warrior during a sit-up contest with Dino Bravo. Only the Warrior could find himself in ridiculous skits like this, similar to the curling bar exercise with baby oil involving Rick Rude. Anyhow, we ended up with Tenta & Bravo against Hogan & Warrior. Tenta laid out Hogan on the set of The Brother Love Show by giving him a splash or two, which meant Hogan could go shoot a movie and take time off. Hogan proceeded to blast the hell out of Tenta’s back with a steel chair and the big man still didn’t go down.

Eventually, Tenta would go on to feud with Jake Roberts. However, before that happened, Tenta would work some dates for the SWS promotion. SWS cut a deal with WWE to basically pay them insane cash to send over wrestlers and in most of the encounters, the WWE guys always went over. That killed SWS’s image. However, SWS wanted Hogan, The Road Warriors, and Tenta. The Road Warriors were the main attraction and Hogan helped them with a match against Gen’ichiro Tenryu on December 12th, 1991. SWS thought Hogan would do the job to Tenryu but, of course, he said hell no and it was chaos behind-the-scenes. It would pretty much cripple SWS down the road. Backstabbing and last-minute decision changes by talent would be the overarching story to the quick rise and even quicker fall of SWS.

SWS paired John Tenta and the volatile Koji Kitao together in a battle of the former Sumos. SWS had three shows in March-April 1991 and one of those events was a spot show at Kobe World Hall. At the Tokyo Dome event, Tenta went over on Kitao clean and the fans absolutely cheered him on. Tenta was a babyface to the Japanese fans and Kitao was loved by a few but hated by most intensely. This dynamic quickly played out when they re-matched in Kobe.

The re-match started with both men feeling each other out in stubborn fashion. One of the Japanese television commentators immediately noted that Tenta was treated as a heel in America but as a babyface in Japan. After a test of strength, Tenta tried a waistlock and Kitao eventually got suplexed to the mat. Kitao escaped underneath the ropes and went to the ring announcer’s table to grab a table. The fans were pissed and immediately started cat-calling Kitao. Kitao could be seen talking to former manager KY Wakamatsu at ringside. After a test of strength, Kitao tried for an armbar and Tenta slapped him away. The fans cheered and started a “Tenta! Tenta!” chant. Remember, Kitao was supposed to be the #2 babyface for SWS. It was Kitao & Tenryu who got a win over Demoliton at Wrestlemania 7 in Los Angeles. Anyhow, Kitao tried to slap Tenta and Tenta started pointing to his head, asking him what the hell was wrong. The two men just stared at each other as the poor, helpless referee couldn’t do much to save the impending train wreck. Tenta tried for a tie-up and Kitao started going for some kicks but eventually got Tenta to the corner to try to tie him up. The referee madly jumps in between the two because he is freaking out. The two men continue to stare each other down with each man trying to figure out what the other is about to do. The fans sense what is going on. Kitao starts pairing his index & middle fingers in order to start eye-poking Tenta. Tenta is super-pissed and throws a kick. Tenta starts swearing like a sailor and it was awesome. The fans start another “Tenta! Tenta!” chant. The two men continued to stare each other down, Kitao put his hands on his hips, and the fans promptly booed. Kitao then shoot-kicked the referee. The referee called the for the bell and Tenta, ever the pro, raised his hands up in the air as the winner.

Bellator PPV Suffers Major Blow, Dana White Talks UFN 40, More

0

Partial Credit: Dana Becker

– UFC president Dana White is excited about tonight’s UFC Fight Night 40 card from Cincinnati that features a welterweight main event between Matt Brown and Erick Silva.

Brown is on a six-fight win streak and is currently ranked seventh in the division, while Silva is No. 14 and coming off a convincing victory of his own earlier this year. Brown was scheduled to face Carlos Condit last December, but a back injury in training scrapped that contest.

“Matt is ranked No. 7 and has been looking for respect for forever now,” White said. “The guy has destroyed everybody he’s fought. He feels like he’s been disrespected for so long. He’s done so much and should have an opportunity to fight for the title soon.

“Erick, who’s ranked 14th; I think there’s no way he’s 14th. In Vegas, the odds have Erick as a favorite. It’s driving Matt Brown crazy. He says he’s going to knock him out, like everyone else, and is going to finally get his respect.”

In the co-main, Lorenz Larkin takes on Costas Philippou. Both fighters are coming off losses, but each hold notable wins. Larkin defeated Robbie Lawler in Strikeforce, while Philippou has topped Tim Boetsch inside the Octagon.

“Larkin is a tough guy. He’s been around a long time and he’s another guy, with a great performance, could earn some respect,” White said. “I think this is going to be an absolute stand-up war and somebody is getting knocked out.”

White also pointed to a main card bout between Erik Koch and Daron Cruickshank, saying “I think that fight will be an absolute war.”

– Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is reportedly out of next Saturday’s Bellator 120 main event fight with Michael Chandler. Reports from Sherdog and MMA Fighting state Alvarez suffered a concussion in training and will not be cleared to compete.

In his place will step season nine lightweight tournament winner Will Brooks to take on Chandler. Brooks is currently scheduled to fight Nate Jolly on the pay-per-view main card.

This is Bellator second attempt at a first pay-per-view. Last year, they were forced to move the card to Spike TV after Tito Ortiz went down with a neck injury. Ortiz was to fight Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Both Ortiz and Jackson are now in separate fights for the May 17 card, with Ortiz meeting Alexander Shlemenko and Jackson taking on Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.

– UFC lightweight contenders Josh Thomson and Michael Johnson have agreed to meet at UFC on FOX 12 this July. The bout is added to a previously announced fight between Anthony Johnson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for the July 26 card from San Jose.

Thomson (20-6) briefly flirted with retirement after a decision loss to former UFC champion Benson Henderson this past January. The former Strikeforce champion is 3-2 all-time with the promotion. Johnson (15-8) has improved his Octagon mark to 7-4 with wins over Joe Lauzon and Melvin Guillard.

Neither fight announced is expected to be the main event for the card. More bout agreements will be announced over the coming weeks.

Dixie Carter Removes JR Diss; Makes Other Questionable Tweets

0

TNA President Dixie Carter has deleted the tweet where she took a shot at Jim Ross. Here’s what she wrote to a JR parody account:
“@WWEJimRoss @JohnGaburick it’s official. You know as little as the real JR.”

Dixie has made some other questionable tweets lately. One fan wrote that TNA’s ratings are dropping because they copy WWE’s storylines, referring to MVP’s character being similar to Triple H. Dixie replied:

“Holy s–tballs! That’s funny. But you have it wrong.”

Another fan wrote that MVP would regret the decisions he was making in the storylines. Dixie deleted her reply some time Friday night but she wrote:

“FASHO”, which for those who didn’t piece it together is slang for “For sure”.
