Dana Talks Rousey vs. Mayweather, Bisping’s Next Fight Official, More

0

– Daniel Cormier moved one step closer to a potential meeting with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones this past weekend when he submitted Dan Henderson in the co-main event of UFC 173: Barao vs. Dillashaw. Cormier locked up a rear-naked choke that left Henderson out cold in the center of the Octagon in the third round. You can see highlights from the fight in the video below.

– It just seems that no matter how much some in the public want to see it go away, the idea of Ronda Rousey facing Floyd Mayweather just won’t die. Last week, UFC president Dana White was asked once again about the subject, and he couldn’t resist discussing it.

“It’s hard for guys to wrap their brains around that one. Ronda wouldn’t beat him,” White said, during a pre-fight media scrum ahead of UFC 173. “She’d hurt him badly. She’d hurt him badly.

“She’ll kick the living (expletive) out of me. And you. And everybody else standing here whether you like it or not.”

When the question was posed again to Rousey herself at a kickoff press conference for UFC 175, the UFC female bantamweight champion expressed her own opinion on the subject.

“Of course, Floyd would box the hell out of me if we were in a boxing match,” said Rousey, who faces Alexis Davis this July. “But boxing is a limited form of fighting and we’re in a much less limited form of fighting. I’ve trained my whole life to prepare for things that he hasn’t been preparing for.”

– Michael Bisping will make his return to the Octagon this coming August, and do so against another returning veteran in Cung Le. The bout, set for UFC Fight Night 48, was announced by the UFC over the weekend. It joins a previously reported contest pitting Hector Lombard against Dong Hyun Kim from the Macau, China event.

Bisping (24-6) is coming off a decision loss to Tim Kennedy in a five-round middleweight affair. The Brit suffered an eye injury in training after defeating Alan Belcher last year, forcing him to the sidelines for an extended period.

Le (9-2) has been out of action since 2012 when he bested former UFC champion Rich Franklin via knockout. The ex-Strikeforce champion was a mentor on The Ultimate Fighter: China earlier this year and also has a budding acting career.

“We’re excited to announce our return to Macao and the Cotai Arena, a venue that has seen incredible UFC performances over the last two years,” said Mark Fischer, UFC Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Asia. “Sands China Ltd. has proven to be an exceptional partner and visionary in helping us grow the sport of MMA and the UFC brand in South East Asia.”

Lombard (34-4-1) downed Jake Shields to improve to 3-2 with the UFC after leaving Bellator as the middleweight champion. He will face a fellow Top-10 welterweight in Kim (19-2-1), who is on a four-fight win streak.

Champions
World: Raven
TV: Chris Jericho
Tag Team: Eliminators

Taz (w/ Bill Alfonso) vs. El Puerto Ricano Pablo Marquez
Big “Fuck you Taz” chant. Very loud crowd right now. Marquez drops kicks Taz in the back right as the bell rings sending him to the floor. Back in and he hits a missile drop kick for 2. Marquez with a sunset flip but Taz kicks out and is quickly up with a clothesline. Snapmare and Taz locks in some submissions. Corner whip but Marquez leaps over Taz as Taz charges. Back the other way and he tries it again but Taz catches his feet and slams him down. Marquez reverses an Irish whip but Taz grabs him in a head and arm suplex. German drops Marquez on his head as the fans chant “Oh my God” and the Tazmission ends it at 2.37. After the match Alfonso gets on the mic and calls out Sabu. Taz points out some girl in the crowd and makes fun of her for being a “fat bitch”. Taz doesn’t give a shit about ECW, Paul E. or any MMA fighter.

Stevie Richards (w/ Bluedust) vs. Mikey Whipwreck ref Jim Molineux
Stevie grabs the mic right after the bell sounds. Stevie points to the same girl Taz made fun of and tells her it’s her fault Bluedust is the type of man he is. Mikey attacks Richards but misses a spin kick. Mikey ducks a clothesline and sends Richards over the top rope with one of his own. Mikey hits a plancha on both Richards and Meanie. Slingshot Mr. Perfect neck snap back into the ring by Mikey. He then runs off of Richards back and somersault planchas onto Meanie on the floor. Top rope cross body to get back in the ring gets a 2 count. Stevie quickly breaks out of a chin lock and goes for a drop kick but Mikey hangs onto the ropes and goes back to the chin lock. Stevie fights out of the chinlock but Mikey hits him low and puts on a headlock on the mat. Every time the girl Taz and Richards made fun of says something the crowd chants “shut the fuck up” at her. It’s happened three times this match and is great. Mikey leaps up onto Stevie’s shoulders and goes for a Frankensteiner but gets powerbombed instead. Stevie stays in control with help from Meanie until Mikey mounts a comeback but misses a top rope splash. Stevie whips Mikey into the ropes ducks his head and gets DDTed. Mikey climbs up to the top turnbuckle but gets Stevie-kicked off and to the floor. Meanie rolls Mikey back in and Richards covers for 2. Meanie gets in the ring and goes up top for the moonsault. Mikey crotches Richards which knocks Meanie down. Mikey hits a superkick and bulldogs Meanie in between Richards legs. Richards and Meanie try double team Mikey. Mikey fights out and rakes Meanie’s eyes so he can’t see. Meanie double underhook powerbombs Richards. Mikey hits a super frankensteiner and gets the win at 12.08.

Buh Buh Ray Dudley & Big Dick Dudley (w/ Sign Guy and Dances With Dudley) vs. F.B.I. ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Well you can probably go back to the last two recaps and figure out how this match is going to go. JT Smith gets on the mic after their ring intro. Smith introduces a new member of the F.B.I. I can’t hear what the name of the guy is but he is huge. Smith bets Buh Buh $440 that he can’t say his name with out stuttering. Buh Buh does and tells Smith not to fuck with the Dudleys and then goes to attack. The F.B.I. hid behind the big man and then attack when the Dudleys turn their backs. The Dudleys quickly get the upper hand and Buh Buh avalanches both men in the corner. The big guy on the F.B.I. attacks Sign Guy and DW with a chair outside. The F.B.I. hit a double suplex on Big Dick. He gets right up but they still manage to whip him into the corner. Dick charges out and clotheslines them both. The big dude comes in and easily power bombs Buh Buh as Big Dick chokeslams both Smith and Little Guido. Dick and the big guy start fighting and brawl into the crowd. This leaves the F.B.I. alone in the ring with Buh Buh until D-Von shows up and lays out the ref and the F.B.I. with a chair causing a DQ at 4.46. D-Von slaps around Buh Buh and yells at him. D-Von lays out Buh Buh and DW with the chair. D-Von leaves through the crowd as Big Dick comes back.

Bluedust vs. Sandman (w/ Missy Hyatt) ref Jim Molineaux
Bluedust does some crappy stuff by Missy so she slaps him. Sandman nails Bluedust with his cane and gets the win in .42

The Franchise” Shane Douglas vs. Pitbull 2 (w/ Francine) ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Lots of history between these two, most recently jast night Shane Douglas helped keep the TV Title away from Pitbull. Pitbull uses his strength and pushes Shane away from a lock up. Shane with a side headlock but Pitbull just pushes him off. That girl gets on Douglas’ case and the fans chant “You fat bitch” at her. Oh man they hate this girl and it’s awesome. Pitbull takes control of the match and they go to the floor. Pitbull drags Shane around the ring slamming him into the guardrail a few times. Back in Pitbull with an irish whip and he press slams Douglas on the rebound. Shane whipped into the corner and Pitbull then with a running powerslam. Shane is sent to a few corners and then locked in a bear hug. Shane gets sent into another corner but gets his foot up on the charge and then hits a running bulldog. Pitbull reverses anirish whip and press slams Shane again. Pitbull charges Shane who is standing against the ropes, but gets back dropped to the floor. Shane with a plancha to the floor. Pitbull sends Shane into the rail and then drops him on the rail. Pitbull gets handed a chair and slams it down across Shane’s back and another one across the head. Shane is busted open as they get back into the ring. Pitbull with an Irish whip, he ducks his head and Shane gets him with a swinging neck breaker. Douglas picks him and has a big vertical suplex but only gets a 2 count. Shane now with a chinlock as Francine screams for him to get out of it. Pitbull fights up and breaks free. He drops a headbutt between the legs of Shane. The two men exchange blows with Pitbull eventually getting Shane into a corner and smashing his head into the turnbuckle. Pitbull hits the ropes and goes for a clothesline but Shane falls to the ground before getting hit. Douglas fights back and gets the ring bell. He starts to climb up top but Francine stops him. They are on the apron now and he kisses her. She slaps him and he slaps her right back. Pitbull charges Shane but gets hit with the ring bell. Douglas gets back in the ring makes the cover puts his feet on the rope for added leverage and gets the win. The time of the match is 11.53. After the match TV Champion Chris Jericho hits the ring. Jericho complains that the feet were on the ropes. Shane goes to punch him but it’s blocked. Jericho spin kicks Shane and Pitbull covers him and the ref counts, even though he never said the match was restarted. Shane kicks Jericho right between the legs and punches the ref. Shane throws Pitbull out of the ring and rams Francine into the turnbuckle. Shane grabs Pitbull and goes to piledriver him but Jericho stops him. Pitbull and Jericho double team Shane until Tag Team Champions The Eliminators come down and take out Pitbull with total elimination. Shane comes off the top with a cross body on Jericho as Kronus holds him up on his shoulders. Saturn then comes off the top with a splash onto Jericho. Pitbull grabs his chain and chases them off.

“Primetime” Brian Lee vs. Dances With Dudley
Our match is joined in progress with Lee taking DW to the floor and into the crowd and out of the building. They just as quickly go inside and back out a different door. Back at ringside DW tries to fight back but Lee is too much for him. In the ring DW ducks a clothesline and lands a dropkick and clothesline. DW goes to the 2nd turnbuckle and comes off with a chop. Back up and he hits a double axe handle. DW goes up one more time but gets caught with a chokeslam. 3.33 is shown and the match time is announced as 3.44 so we only missed .11.

Tag Team Champions Eliminators are in the ring and Saturn is complaining that they are there with no one to fight. Jericho charges the ring and attacks them looking for some payback from before. Jericho gets in a lionsault and a frankensteiner on each. Saturn tries to attack from behind but gets clotheslined. Jericho goes for one on Kronus but he ducks. When Jericho turns around he gets drop kicked by Saturn. Mikey Whipwreck hits the ring and clears ou the Eliminators and we get a bell.

Tag Team Champions Eliminators vs. TV Champion Chris Jericho & Mikey Whipwreck ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Saturn and Jericho start it off. Saturn with a headlock Jericho tries to fight out but gets taken over. Jericho reverses to a head scissor. Saturn gets out and just lays in a few shots to Jericho. Irish whip Jericho comes back and hits a spin kick. Hanging vertical suplex by Jericho and a standing senton. He turns however and gets super kicked. Tag to Mikey but Saturn charges and knocks him off the apron. Kronus and Mikey now in the ring. They lock up and Kronus pushes Mikey off. Arm drag, hip toss and drop kick by Mikey sends Kronus to the floor. Back in the ring Kronus comes out of a headlock with a belly to back suplex. Pump handle German suplex. Saturn comes in and they hit a double clothesline. Saturn beats on Mikey and then throws him into a corner. Mikey runs up to the 2nd turnbuckle and cross bodies Saturn. A dropkick sends Saturn outside the ring and the Eliminators try to regroup. Saturn back in with Jericho now and they tackle each other and start punching away. Jericho gets the advantage and then hits a clothesline. Jericho with a submission but Saturn gets to the ropes. Kronus then comes in and breaks it up. Him and Jericho trade some stiff shots. Jericho puts Saturn up top and climbs up to the top turnbuckle with him and dropkicks Saturn to the floor. Jericho with a plancha. Kronus comes from behind with a chair and Mikey comes off the top onto Kronus. The four men fight on the floor. Jericho puts a chair on Kronus and leaps out of the ring with a splash. Mikey and Saturn now in the ring. Mikey back drops Saturn for 2. Headlock take over slows things down. Mikey gets pushed up into the ropes and super kicked on the way back. Tag to Kronus and they hit a double superkick. Body slam and Kronus comes off the 2nd turnbuckle with a head butt. Mikey whipped in and gets powerslammed. Samoan drop by Kronus and he tags to Saturn. Saturn comes off the top with a big diving headbutt. Jericho comes in to break up the pin. Pump handle fall away slam by Saturn for 2. Irish whip by Saturn and he lands a flying forearm for 2. Tag to Kronus and he hits a tilt a whirl slam at the 13 minute mark. Leg drop misses and Mikey makes the tag. More stiff shots between Jericho and Kronus. Saturn grabs Mikey and holds him but Kronus misses a clothesline and hits Saturn. Saturn gets in the ring and chops the crap out of Jericho then hits a lionsault. Jericho ducks a clothesline and gets a sunset flip. Saturn kicks out and lays Jericho down with a clothesline. Piledriver by Saturn for 2. Saturn with a snapmare and then a chin lock. Kronus tags back in and sends Jericho to the ropes. Jericho gets a waist lock. They go through a series of 2 standing switches, Kronus ducking a back elbow, Jericho landing on his feet on a power bomb attempt by Kronus, Jericho ducking a clothesline and finally hitting a release german suplex. Tag made to Mikey and he comes off the top with a crossbody. Mikey back up top and he leaps of and lands on Kronus and Frankenstieners him. Mikey whips in Kronus ducks his head and gets kicked in it. Kronus makes a tag and then hits Mikey with a rolling firemans slam. Saturn comes right off the top with a splash. Mikey gets a 2 count with a small package. Saturn clotheslines him and press slams him. Saturn misses a moonsault off the top and Jericho gets tagged in. Jericho hits the ring and runs right into a superkick. Saturn with a dr. bomb for 2. Corner whip and Saturn charges but catches Jericho’s boot. Jericho comes off the 2nd buckle with a drop kick he covers and gets 2. Fishermen buster by Jericho and a lionsault but Kronus breaks up the pin. Mikey in with a drop kick that knocks Kronus out of the ring. Jericho power bombs Saturn as Mikey hits him with a top rope clothesline while he’s at the top of the bomb. Saturn kicks out at 2. Mikey puts Saturn on the buckle and goes up with him. Kronus hits Jerich, who is standing on a different top turnbuckle, with a chair knocking him to the floor. Kronus drops Jericho on the guardrail while in the ring Saturn pushes Mikey to the mat. Mikey goes for a tornado DDT but Saturn reverses with an inverted atomic drop. Total elimination gets the win for the champs at 20.19. They go for it again but Jericho pushes Mikey out of the way and he takes the total elimination. The Gangstas music starts and they hit the ring. A brawl is on! New Jack takes Kronus up to a stage and piledrivers him off it through a table on the floor!! And the fight still continues! These two teams aren’t going to stop feuding until one team is dead. Kronus slams Jack through a table. Mustafa as been all over Saturn. Running powerslam by Mustafa on Saturn and Jack comes off the top with 187 onto him. Kronus gets the same combo now. The Eliminators bail out of the ring and run to the back. A huge 5 minute brawl after an amazing match. Jack gets on the mic and says he doesn’t care how far he has to travel he’ll do it just to beat there ass. New Jack spits on that girl in the crowd. AND SHE LOVES IT!

World Champion Raven (w/ Stevie Richards, Bluedust, Lori & Tyler Fullington) vs. Tommy Dreamer (w/ Beulah & Kimona Wanalaya) ref Jim Molineaux
So I don’t get why every time Tommy fights Brian Lee he charges the ring to start the fight but when he fights Raven he calmly walks to the ring. He HATES Raven personally, Lee just beat him up a bunch of times. Wouldn’t you want at Raven more then Lee? Only Dreamer’s 2nd title match against Raven. The bell rings and Stevie gets on the mic and wants to say something to Sandman. He wants to know how it feels for his son to worship Raven. Superkick to the back of Dreamers head and Raven hits a DDT for 2. Meanie misses the Meanie-sault and Raven with another DDT. The girls attack Meanie and get throw to the locker room. Ummm, Stevie and Meanie stay? Piledriver by Raven for 2. Nothing makes sense about this match to me!!!! Dreamer gets throw to the floor and his cut from last night opens up. Dreamer throws Raven into the guardrail twice. Nintendo to the balls as they brawl into the crowd and out of the building. Back inside Raven takes over and elbow drops Tommy through a table. They fight on the floor some more and we are at the 8 minute mark as they get into the ring. Tommy leans a table in the corner and throws Raven through it. A fan throws a chair to Dreamer. He charges Raven in the corner. Raven misses and Dreamer hits the chair. Raven picks it up and charges but Dreamer moves and the ref gets hit. A new ref comes down, Dreamer picks up a chair charges but now Raven moves and the new ref goes down. Dreamer with a DDT as the first ref gets up and counts 2. Raven hits a belly to back pin. Both refs count and argue over what they think just happened. Dreamer and Raven DDT the refs. Buh Buh Ray comes to the ring and says he’s going to ref the match. Dreamer piledrivers Raven and gets a 2 but Stevie boots Dudley in the face. DDT on Richards. Raven with a DDT on Dreamer. D-Von is at ringside now. He hits Dreamer with a chair and Molineaux, the original ref makes the count and Raven wins at 11.12. Tyler comes in the ring and lays into Dreamer with the cane. He’s hit him at least 20 times. Sandman hits the ring canes Stevie and Bluedust. Raven drops to his knees and pulls Tyler in front of him. Buh Buh chases off D-Von. Sandman asks Tyler to come to him and Tyler hits him 3 times and then Raven DDTs him. Tyler hits his father some more and then Raven and the Fullingtons all do Raven’s post and leave. Dreamer and Sandman argue in the ring for some reason and threaten to hit each other with weapons. WTF is going on! Since when did these two not like each other?!? They slowly back away after a few minutes of starring at each other and leave the ring. A fan in the aisle hands Sandman a beer. Sandman takes it but then hands it right back and disgustedly says “it’s warm” haha drunk.

Shane Douglas is in the locker room getting patched up from his match earlier. He says that people always said he couldn’t get extreme. Douglas is trash talks Pitbull and Jericho. The medic keeps telling Shane that he has to go to the hospital. Shane tells him to call the hospital and let them know he’s on his way so he doesn’t have to wait behind some welfare recipient. HA! He trash talks some more and that’s it.

My thoughts on the show
WOW! I gotta say I loved this show. Between the super hot crowd that spent tons of time making fun of a fan, some new match ups, and the awesome tag title match, I’m super happy with this show. As you probably know by now I love Taz, Stevie and Douglas, and they kicked ass tonight. The tag team title match was easily one of the top matches of the year so far in ECW. A really good main event AND a back stage interview on a handheld show. This show is very recommended. (Disclaimer!: This is the first show I recapped where I was drunk. I might not actually think it’s this good) 🙂

Michael Cole Gets Reamed And Called ‘JR’ On Leaked SmackDown Feed

0

– A satellite feed from this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown feed was uploaded by a fan to the internet. It appears that Vince McMahon or Kevin Dunn didn’t like something Michael Cole did at the end of the Sheamus match. JBL can be heard saying, “Well done Cole, you just got called JR.” As noted last week, you can also hear Cole asking Vince if Vince wants him to repeat a talking point. Cole says, “Hey Vince, do you want me to say it every time because I said it a s–t load of times tonight.” Vince apparently responds harshly as Cole quickly begins to reply “Yes Sir” repeatedly. It’s an interesting behind the scenes listen.

There is tons of talking between the announcers and the producers, jokes being made, and screw-ups on commentary.

WWF @ Boston Garden 11/7/87 Video Review

0

Boston Garden (11/7/87)

This is a matinee show so don’t be surprised if the matches are a bit on the quick side. They still had to fly to Philly for the evening show. Gorilla welcomes us, and we head to ringside.

Match #1: Dino Bravo (w/Johnny Valiant) v. Brady Boone: Bravo shows a power display early on, but Boone fires back with a dropkick for two. Brady works over Dino’s arm. Boone gets an Irish whip but Bravo bounces out of the corner and hits a flying clothesline for two. Bravo with a bear hug, so I’ll take the time to note that Gorilla Monsoon and PETE “Mother Frickin” DOHERTY are the commentators. Brady breaks the hold but Dino nails his Side Suplex but doesn’t cover. Bravo tries a knee drop from the top rope but misses. Boone fires back with a spinning elbow and an Irish whip into the corner. Brady charges in but nobodies home, allowing Dino to deliver a back suplex for the pin at 5:00 even. Rating: Thankfully short. After he started taking the juice Dino just SUCKED, to put it nicely, 1/4*

– Young Stallions are interviewed by Gorilla. They appear to be deer in headlights, Roma’s trying to remember his lines and Powers just stands there with a creepy smile, never changing his facial expression.

Match #2: The Young Stallions (Roma & Powers) v. Bolsheviks (Volkoff & Zhukov): Nick Bockwinkel joins the Commentary team, oh boy this has just gotten even better. Zhukov just made his debut on WWF TV the week prior, The Stallions are using Jimmy Hart’s “Crank it Up” song as their theme because, well, they were being pushed and needed music. Somehow a heel singing a faces song worked for them. The Bolsheviks attack the Stallions but the Stallions reverse some Irish whips and send the Bolsheviks into each other. Volkoff spills to the floor while the Young Stallions works over Zhukov in the ring for a while. Zhukov counters a headlock and back suplexes Jimmy Powers enabling Boris to make the tag. In comes Volkoff who misses a knee drop on Powers and Jimmy hits a dropkick for two. Roma gets a headlock on Volkoff and gets sent off the ropes into a knee from Zhukov. The Russians work over Roma’s back for a bit with very boring bear hugs and the like. Volkoff places Roma in the corner and charges in but no one is there and both men are down. Nikolai tags in Boris and Roma finally gets the tag to Powers. Jimmy is a house-o-fire…for about 10 seconds. Powers gets a backdrop on Boris for two as Nikolai breaks the count. All 4 men are back in, the Stallions try a double Irish whip but the Bolsheviks reverse and send the Youngun’s into each other. Roma falls to the floor while Powers takes a double clothesline. Zhukov follows up on Powers with a crappy looking double axe handle or a head butt or something (the commentators aren’t even sure) for the pin at 11:24. Rating: 1/2* at best

– Mr. Fuji is with his Killer Khan, Khan says something in Mongolian, Gorilla asks what does that mean, Fuji says “Gangster”. WTF?!? Ohhhhhhhh Kay. And the interview ends.

Match #3: Brutus Beefcake: v. Greg Valentine (w/Johnny V): We have a montage of jokes going on between Gorilla/Bockwinkel/Doherty at ringside but nothing close to as good as Bobby Heenan comedy. Brutus gets the upper hand to start and Hammer is taking his slow falling bumps time after time. Valentine regroups on the floor. Back inside Brutus takes a charge at Greg but Hammer gets out of the way and Beefcake rams himself into the corner. Valentine now in control applies a chin lock. Brutus gets out only to be nailed with a shoulder breaker for two. Valentine starts slugging at Brutus and Beefcake starts firing back. Beefcake throws in a back elbow and tries for a backdrop but the Hammer telegraphs it. Valentine tries a suplex but Beefcake reverses it. The Hammer slaps on the Figure Four but Beefcake gets to the ropes for the break. Valentine tries the Figure Four again but Beefcake kicks him off into the corner. Hammer then tries an elbow drop but misses. Brutus comes back with a big boot and the Hammer takes a powder. Brutus chases Valentine around ringside and the Hammer is back in first. Valentine back suplexes Beefcake back into the ring with a bridge for a pin, but Brutus gets his shoulder up and ends up pinning the Hammer instead at 10:11. After the bout Beefcake slaps a sleeper hold on Valentine, but fellow Dream Team partner Dino Bravo makes the save. The Barber begins to fight both men, and their manager off & the New Dream Team & Johnny V. head to the back. Rating: Pretty weak match, but the finish wasn’t bad. 3/4*

– Monsoon interviews Oliver Humperdink & Bam Bam Bigelow who talk about their upcoming match against Khan, they also speculate what he means by “Gangster”.

Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow (w/Humperdink) v. Killer Khan (w/Mr. Fuji): Khan is just about out of the WWF at this point, while Bigelow is in the midst of his initial push with the company. Khan does his Yokozuna stance and Bigelow retorts with a cartwheel to start. A slap contest follows and Bammer atomic drops Khan, sending the Killer to the outside. Killer regroups and comes back in chopping & choking away at Bigelow. Mr. Fuji tries to get involved but Humperdink scares him away. Bammer make a quick comeback with a few slams an head butts. Khan feels threatened so he goes to spew the green mist, only Bam Bam ducks it and the two seem to stand there forever (someone must have forgotten their spot) before Bigelow nails a dropkick to ground the Mongolian. Bigelow hits a big splash from there and it’s all over at 7:24. Rating: Looked good on paper, but the match never really got started IMO, 1/2* at best.

Match #5: Intercontinental Champion Honky Tonk Man (w/Jimmy Hart) v. Randy Savage (w/Elizabeth): Savage hates Honky at this point for many reasons, and Savage jumps him to start off on the floor, introducing Honky to the ring post and the wooden steps. Honky tries a weak comeback and Macho has none of it. Savage begins to chase Jimmy Hart around ringside while Hart pitches Honky the megaphone. Back inside Macho goes for a flying double axe handle but Honky cracks him in the ribs with the megaphone to take control. HTM hits a middle rope fist drop (ala his cousin Jerry Lawler) for a two count. Honky Tonk now turns his attention to Elizabeth at ringside. Honky goes after Liz and Macho sees it. Savage is pissed off and rolls out of the ring to attack the HTM. On the way back in Jimmy Hart grabs Savage and Honky tries to nail him only Macho ducks and Honky hits Hart instead. Macho climbs to the top and hits a flying double axe handle. Savage tries for another move but the two collide and Macho falls to the floor. Honky follows him out but Macho gives HTM & Jimmy Hart a double noggin’ knocker, all the time the referee is counting them out. Honky tries to make his way back into the ring and Savage aids him by nailing him with the megaphone. Honky beats the count at 7:26 and retains the IC strap yet again as Macho is counted out. Macho Man is pissed off and disposes of the referee, Jimmy Hart and the HTM after the bout and steals the IC belt to celebrate, despite actually losing the bout. Rating: Extremely short for a Main Event match but lead to a rematch the following month. Still only a *

– The Demolition are interviewed and say they will finish the job they started on Haynes and Patera, tonight!

Match #6: The Demolition (w/Mr. Fuji) v. Billy Jack Haynes & Ken Patera: Haynes & Patera take control early with a lot of sloppy double teaming on Smash. They’re as sloppy as Jeff Hardy on acid in the WWE, only Jeff was wayyy better. Ax tries to help his partner out but Haynes hits him with a horrible dropkick instead. Haynes hits the ropes for a move but is tripped up by Mr. Fuji, allowing Smash to clothesline the living crap out of Billy Jack. Ax is tagged in and takes over on Haynes. Basic Demolition heel offense for a bit but Ax misses an elbow drop and Haynes tags in Patera. Ken works over Ax for a bit but runs into a boot and now the Demos are clobbering the World Strongest boulder thrower. If tossing cops was an Olympic event, Kenny would’ve gotten the gold. This is after Ken’s arm injury so Ax works over Patera’s injured arm. Smash comes in but gets clotheslined by Patera and Ken tags in Haynes. BJ works over both Demos for a bit and nails Smash with a powerslam and a suplex for two. Haynes slaps on the Full Nelson but Fuji breaks it up, which brings in Patera & Ax. All 4 men are going at it and Patera shoves the ref aside. Fuji throws the cane in and the Demos use it on Patera’s bad arm. Haynes gets the cane away from Ax and chases Demolition out of the ring. The ref calls for the bell and we get a double Disqualification at 7:21. Rating: 3/4*, nothing to add

Match #7: Hercules v. Ivan Putski: Putski would return now & then at the “big” house shows, usually to put over younger talent. Putski wants a handshake but Herc is reluctant. Finally, Herc shakes Ivan’s hand but Putski squeezes Herc’s instead, and the Mythological one gets punked out. Putski is BEYOND roided up here BTW. A few lock ups go nowhere and Ivan finally begins working Hercules over with a series of right hands. Herc finally rakes the face and goes to work on Ivan. Hercules applies a bear hug on Ivan but Putski breaks it and puts Hercules in a bear hug of his own. Herc gets to the ropes for the break. Putski charges at Hercules and right into a backbreaker for the pin fall completely OUT OF NOWHERE (although I’m not complaining) at 5:45. Rating: Nothing here at all, a LOT of stalling, horrible finish as well, DUD

Match #8: Junkyard Dog v. Virgil (w/Ted Dibiase): The match is supposed to be JYD v. Dibiase but Ted comes out on crutches, faking an injury. Dog jibber jabs with Dibiase, allowing Virgil to attack from behind and the match begins. Virgil and Ted start off by taking turns choking away at the Dog behind the ref’s back. Virgil drops the THUMPer with a few jabs and goes for a fist drop from the top only falls right into one of JYD’s right hands. That’s the first time I’ve seen that move, instead of a boot Virgil falls into a fist?!? The Dog “Juke’s Up” and levels Virgil with some right hands. JYD goes for the THUMP Powerslam but KO’s the referee in the process. This allows Dibiase to whallop JYD with a crutch while the ref was down and place Virgil on top of the Dog for the very quick win at 2:53. No pun intended here but the JYD was in the WWF dog house at this time so it was some what expected. Rating: Complete DUD, far too little offense to be called a match really.

Match #9: Tag Champions Strike Force v. The Islanders: There was some form of a schmoz the month before so this time we have two referees in charge of this return match. There’s no Bobby Heenan at ringside so the Island Boys are on their own tonight. Strike Force work over Haku to start but Martel goes for a backdrop and Haku levels him to take over. Haku tries a body block but Martel ducks it which eventually gets Haku in position to make the tag. In comes Tama, who in turn, winds up having Strike Force work him over for a bit. We get some distraction towards the ref and the Islanders quickly double team Santana to take control of the bout. A few close tags by Santana while in a  front face lock but the Islanders force him back into their corner for some more double teaming. Haku pitches Tito to the floor for a bit. The ref is distracted with Martel wanting in the ring badly, allowing the Islanders to set up Tito for a double team. Tama holds Santana in place as Haku throws a Thrust kick, but Tito ducks and Haku nails his own partner. Tito makes the hot tag and Martel is in with a backdrop on Haku, and then slingshots Haku into Tama. Santana comes in and hits a flying forearm on Haku for two. All 4 men are in and while referee #1 is with Martel & Tama in the corner, Santana small packages Haku and referee #2 slides in to count the pin at 10:09. Rating: One of the better matches of the night, that’s for sure. *3/4

Final Thoughts: Every match seemed rush, and probably were, seeing as though this was a matinee show and the workers had to be in Philly for a show at the Spectrum by the evening. A lot of the finishes even came out of nowhere without much build. Definitely not a show for anyone who wasn’t a fan of this time frame, but I still found some enjoyment in small portions of the event. The title matches were decent, but the rest of the card was more than lackluster.

Match of the Night: Islanders v. Strike Force

Big UFC Fight Reported, UFC 173 Bonuses & Attendance, Dillashaw Future

0

– To the surprise of just about everyone not closely associated with Team Alpha Male, and former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, T.J. Dillashaw became the bantamweight champion with a fifth round TKO victory over Renan Barao Saturday night at UFC 173. Dillashaw finished the fight after a head kick and a flurry of punches.

For the first time, Team Alpha Male has a champion from the UFC, as Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez and Chad Mendes had failed to deliver in the past. Dillashaw was as much as an 8-to-1 underdog, but he stormed right out after Barao and nearly had the win locked up in the first round.

So, what could be next for Dillashaw? There are plenty of options, but the new champion would like to test his skills against someone who previously wore the belt: Dominick Cruz.

“Hopefully, he can make a comeback,” said Dillashaw, of Cruz, during the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1. “He was a great champion. He was a champion when I first started fighting that I looked up to and it would be an honor to fight that guy.”

Cruz was stripped of the title earlier this year after suffering a groin injury. He has missed several months after undergoing two knee surgeries.

– As if winning the bantamweight belt wasn’t enough for T.J. Dillashaw, the fighter also picked up two bonuses for his performance at UFC 173 Saturday night. Dillashaw netted $100,000 each for sharing “Fight of the Night” with Renan Barao and scoring a “Performance of the Night” honor.

Dillashaw finished Barao in the fifth round via TKO, improving to 10-2 in his career. The loss was the first for the Brazilian in nine years.

Mitch Clarke, who submitted Al Iaquinta in the second round on the prelims, also won $50,000 with a “Performance of the Night” check. The attendance inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was announced at 11,036 for a live gate of $1.7 million.

– According to a report by ESPN, Jon Jones will defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 177. Gustafsson has signed the contract, but Jones is still in negotiations over a new deal, stated Dana White following UFC 173.

The card is expected to take place August 30 from Las Vegas, but White said that could still change depending on what happens in contract negotiations involving the current champion. Last year, Jones (20-1) defeated Gustafsson (16-2) via decision.

“Yes, that’s true,” said Manos Terzitane, the manager for Gustafsson. “We were offered to fight on the card at the end of August in Las Vegas. “This is a big fight. The first title fight was the best fight in UFC history. We’re just hoping Jones will accept the fight.”

Both fighters have earned wins since, as “Bones” topped Glover Teixeira earlier this year, while Gustafsson secured his rematch with a finish of Jimi Manuwa.

CZW’s Night of Infamy 13 Video Review

0

I am back with another indy review. This week I’m reviewing CZW’s Night of Infamy 13 which took place on 11/2/13. A comment on my last review asked to have winners announced, and I’m fine with including them. Otherwise this will be similar to my Evolve 15 review. Meaning I won’t be writing out move for move what happened, and I won’t be giving out star ratings.

I guess I should first establish that I understand that a lot of fans have this stigma about CZW being a trashy indy company that only does death matches. I thought that way for a lot of years, but the past 2-3 years or so they’ve put out solid shows every year. Also they have toned back the death matches they have.

Night of Infamy is their yearly event that is supposed to set up their huge show Cage of Death. This year’s Night of Infamy was no different. It’s main purpose (and almost only purpose) was to establish the big matches and cause hype for Cage of Death the next month.

1. Shane Strickland vs. David Starr vs. Andrew Everett vs. Caleb Konley vs. Latin Dragon

This was a match to crown a #1 contender for the Wired Championship. I’m sure you’ve heard of Andrew Everett (or his older persona Chiva Kid), but if you haven’t looked him up yet, you need to. This kid is incredible. This year he has established that he’s more than just flips (and flips and flips). He has shown that he can be a really good dickhead cocky heel, and he shows that in this match. Shane Strickland is another guy I’m very high on, and I think he should be showcased in a few more promotions than he is. Caleb Konley is a guy I talked about on the Evolve review, and he’s constantly on DGUSA shows. David Starr is a really good up and comer, who should start to really take off in a year or two. Latin Dragon is the only guy in this match I’m not fond of. He’s not terrible, but he never really does anything I care about. So I’d rather this have been a 4 way.

The match itself was a very short and sweet fun match. It’s a perfect opener with lots of flips, dives, and movez. Shane Strickland won and he’ll get a shot at the Wired Champion at Cage of Death. This was a good way to set up what should be a great match at COD.

2. Greg Excellent vs. Cherry Bomb

These two have been feuding, well more so Excellent has been feuding with Cherry Bomb’s husband Pepper Parks. Greg Excellent is a big dirty hairy guy, and wrestles very entertaining matches. He’s also established himself as a guy who can pull off really good matches with females (you should seek out his feud with Mia Yim). I wouldn’t say this was one of his great matches with females, but it was very entertaining. Another good placement of a match on the show. Greg wins when Cherry Bomb walks out on the match. This then set up Greg and his Mom vs. Cherry Bomb & Pepper Parks at COD.

3. Wired Championship: Alex Colon (c) vs. Jon Silver

Alex Colon is a part of a stable called 4Loko, and he is the center piece. He’s a very talented heel, and probably another guy who may be under appreciated by other companies. I talked about how much I enjoy Silver on the Evolve review, but he is great in this match too. There is one downside of this match, and that is Denver Colorado on commentary. He’s terrible, and I hate him. These two had a really good match with some interference from 4Loko, but it was done in smart times in the match. They told a good story of Silver trying to overcome everything, and he got in a few great false finishes. Colon finally wins, and there may have been too many kickouts towards the end (but in indy wrestling, you’re going to get that). I hope this match gives Silver more singles matches in CZW instead of teaming with Alex Reynolds.

4. Sozio vs. Dave Crist

Sozio is the former Niles Young, but he’s improved since those days. DJ Hyde has hired Sozio’s stable The Front to take out the Crist brothers. The Front was interfering in this match, but this match wasn’t that good. The finish was weird with Sozio winning, and he actually hit the finish great. It was just a weird time to end the match, and didn’t make Crist look good at all.

5. Biff Busick vs. Jake Crist

I am so high on Busick, he should be the star of the Indys in no time. The previous match led to this one, as Biff is in The Front. This match is much more hard hitting, and builds of the last match with The Front members getting what’s coming for interfering in the last match. Eventually DJ Hyde gets involved, but even that’s not enough for Biff to pick up the win. It was a very nice finish. These matches helped further the feud between DJ Hyde and OI4K.

6. Milk Chocolate vs. Chris Dickinson

Milk Chocolate sing a pop song on their way to the ring, and the crowd hates them for it. The crowd pops with Dickinson comes out to shut them up. Milk Chocolate probably got in too much offense, but eventually Dickinson murders them, and the crowd is happy. Dickinson another guy who should be the star in a lot of companies (but apparently he has an attitude problem or something).

7. Tag Team Championship: BLKOUT (Blk Jeez & Robbie Morino) (c) vs. 4Loko (Azrieal & Bandido Jr.)

Morino is BLKOUT’s manager, and Jeez normally teams with Ruckus. Ruckus was unable to make the show, and Morino was forced to defend the belts in his spot. Jeez has been around a long time, he’s formally known as Sabian. I’ve been a fan of Azrieal since he was in Special K in ROH, and I’m glad he’s still doing his thing. Bandido Jr is improving all the time. This match however was very weird. Both teams are heels, and the crowd didn’t really know what to do. With Morino in the match the two teams couldn’t just do a bunch of crazy spots to pop the crowd either. BLKOUT eventually play the faces even though an earlier promo established them still as heels. (I didn’t write about it because it wasn’t that meaningful and suffered from bad sound quality.) Jon Silver (face) comes out to distract 4Lok0, which helps BLKOUT (heels) win. So that was weird. I’m just kind of glad it’s over. Morino is actually very fired up about wrestling, and cuts a promo telling the fans how much he cares about them and the company to get in the ring and try his hardest to still deliver for them. I think the match could have worked better if he had cut this before the match, but oh well.

8. World Heavyweight Championship: Drew Gulak vs. Chuck Taylor

Gulak is another guy I love who doesn’t get enough love in other companies. He hasn’t had the greatest championship run up to this point, and he looks small to be defending a Heavyweight championship, but I think he makes it work. These two are good friends, but at the last show Chuck Taylor turned on Gulak’s stable to set up this match. This match starts off with some great quick chain wrestling. I knew that was Gulak’s specialty, but Chucky T really impressed me. The two have some really cool spots on the floor that I didn’t expect. Gulak eventually wins with a move he’s been establishing, but I still wish it had been built up more in the match. Still a very good match, and probably the best of the night.

9. Ultraviolent Scumbag Match: Drew Blood vs. Devon Moore

Ok so the rules to this match are stupid. Blood and Moore’s teammates are handcuffed outside the ring. There are 4 boxes on turnbuckles and one of them has a handcuff key. Did TNA book this? At least it started off very hot with Moore really impressing me. Oh cool staples to the face. Moore actually does a very nice SSP. Apparently Blood created the match. Oh and he had the key in his boot instead of in the 4th box. Stupid. Eventually Mat Tremont comes out for the save, and make things a little more even. Oh but then he turns on Moore. The turn was actually really cool (and I think his first of his career in CZW), but this match was just shitty. Tremont and Moore actually do cut good promos to close out the show and put over their big match at COD.

Overall: This show isn’t one to go out of your way to see. The World title match is the only one I think people should see. So unless you’re already buying COD and you want to see why some of those matches are happening then get this show. Also, I guess the Tremont turn at the end of the show was pretty important, but I’m sure that’s out there online to build hype for COD. The tag title match and the main event match just left a sour taste in my mouth.

Buff Bagwell Talks Vince McMahon Firing Him, WCW, Sex, More

0

CBS-19 entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet interviewed former WCW Superstar Buff Bagwell, who was in Cleveland for this weekend for AIW’s JT Lightning Invitational Tournament. Here are some highlights:

Why he got fired from WWF:

“I still don’t know. But I can tell you the whole story of how I got fired. I walked into a room with Vince, Jim Ross and Johnny Ace and it took me five minutes to realize I was getting fired. I raised my hand and I said ‘Are y’all firing me?’ And Vince says, ‘no Marc, we’re not firing, you we’re releasing you.’ So I asked what the difference was and of course they had an answer for that too. He goes ‘Well, if we release you we don’t have to redo your contract when we bring you back in three months. If we fire you, we have to redo your contract’. So I told myself that I had to start shaking hands and smiling because it was over, so that’s what I did. Trying not to cry, I grabbed my bags.”

His mom winning the WCW World Tag Team Championship:

“I think it hurt it. It did. WCW got to where it was ridiculous where David Arquette was the World Heavyweight Champion and that finally sunk the whole thing. There was a time and place for those gimmicks and angles but not all the way to making my mom win. I disagree with that fully. It was good TV to have her on there, but not to be the champion. And also David Arquette not to be the champion. We used Rodman, we used Leno and we used David Arquette but we shouldn’t have made him the World Heavyweight Champion. That was pushing it too far.”

How he is feeling after his horrific car accident in April 2012:

“I don’t even tell people this because it’s so hard to believe but I wrecked my car and broke my neck on the exact same day as I broke it 14 years previous. April 22, 1998 Rick Steiner bulldogged me live on television and I broke my neck. It was the worst two years of my entire life. I really had a hard time getting back into shape. I was 42 at the time, I’m 44 now and I think with age along with the trauma I went though, it was the hardest thing ever but I finally got back and I’m back to being Buff…. honest to God I’ve only been back to being 100% for the last six months. It took a year and a half to get over it but I’m back to 110%.”

His advice to kids who want to be wrestlers:

“Any kid that walks up to me and says they want to get into wrestling I tell them don’t. Don’t. It’s just a bad time. And it’s because there is only one place to go. TNA is trying but they’re not really there. There just needs to be at least two big companies.”

Whether he actually has sex for the Showtime show Gigolos:

“No, absolutely not. We are not having sex on camera, that’s not what we’re doing. Sure, it might look like it but it’s like in a movie, Tom Cruise looks like he dies when that building explodes but he didn’t actually die. You gotta believe me on this.”

If a woman pays for his gigolo services is he able to say no to having sex?

“I’m not able to, I actually do say no. Contractually it’s no. They are paying for my companionship… they’re not looking just for sex, they are looking for a companion that will tell them they’re pretty and hang out and be friends for a day or two days.”

How his wife feels about him being a gigolo:

“My wife trusts me with this. She totally buys in and understands that we have a great marriage and this is just a decision we made to make money and Showtime loved the idea of bringing a wrestler in.”

Would he be OK if his wife wanted to work as an escort:

“No. And that’s probably not fair. I think that in life there’s a double standard with this. There’s the old saying that if a guy does it we say ‘Big deal’ but if a girl does it she’s a slut. And that goes back for centuries. I’m not a jealous guy. I just think that in the world in general, her having a husband that’s a gigolo is kind of cool but me having a wife that is an escort would be like ‘Are you kidding me?’
