They’re outside of the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida with fans surrounding the panel area… Christian makes a joke about NXT bringing him out of hibernation. Heyman teases signing another potential “Paul Heyman Guy, or Girl” tonight…

Heyman puts over recent NXT stars who have made their way to WWE, Adam Rose, Rusev, Lana and Bo Dallas who were all at Arrival and now on the main roster… Renee talks about Sami Zayn vs. Tyler Breeze in a #1 contender’s match. The fans start an “Ole!” chant. We see a video on Breeze… Christian says Zayn is like the NXT version of Captain Charisma because he always has the best match on the card. A Zayn video follows, and when we come back to the panel, Cesaro has joined to give his thoughts on things. Cesaro speaks a little French, but doesn’t reveal what it translates to…

Video package on Charlotte vs. Natalya for the NXT Women’s Title… Bret Hart and Ric Flair will be in their corners tonight and they comment during the video…

Adrian Neville video plays next as the panel briefly discusses the Neville vs. Tyson Kidd title match…

Natalya and Tyson Kidd prerecorded interview conducted by Michael Cole. Natalya talks briefly about her match and we move on to Tyson… Michael Cole trashes Tyson Kidd’s ego, and Natalya tries to defend him, Cole keeps pointing out that Natalya won’t let Tyson talk for himself… Michael Cole tells Tyson if he doesn’t win, nobody will ever care. If Tyson doesn’t win he’ll only be known as “Natalya’s husband”. Cole is playing the subtle heel here, or maybe Natalya is, or maybe Kidd? It was really weird, we’ll see what it leads to… I’m a little lost on what they were trying to establish there, other than to bury Kidd…. Paul Heyman mocks the entire segment and the fans pop for it… Further making this interview confusing…

Christian and Heyman discuss Tyson vs. Adrian… Heyman is really enjoying himself… Renee Young finally gets a few words in as THE EXOTIC EXPRESS pulls up… I thought this guy moved up to WWE… Why are these people here? Here comes the rosebuds off the bus…. Joy…..

CM Punk Admits To Being Retired And More

0

As noted yesterday, CM Punk is one of several celebrities that will be painting a ball park chair as part of a public art project commemorating Wrigley Field’s 100-year anniversary. 50 custom-made pairs of decorated ball park seats that depict a historic moment in the Chicago ballpark’s history will line Michigan Ave starting tomorrow.

Red Eye Chicago interviewed Punk in today’s newspaper about being a part of the project. Punk will be commemorating Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout games in 1998, and was asked if that was more impressive than holding the WWE Championship for 434 days. Punk fielded that question, replying that Wood’s would have to answer that and noting that he felt that it was the most impressively pitched game in major league history.

The only other wrestling related question was Punk being asked about being retired at 35 and if he would be doing more charity work now. Punk admitted that “it feels good,” before talking about supporting charities for organizations like the Chicago Cubs.

“I get to do fun stuff like bowl and paint chairs and play whiffle ball with Bull Murray,” Punk said. “It was super fun and for a great cause. You’ve got athletes and actresses and musicians and all kinds of people painting chairs. I’m super happy to be a part of it.”

Vince Russo Rants On This Week’s Raw, WWE Ratings, More

0

Source: Pyro And Ballyhoo
Vince Russo has a new blog on his official website titled, “Stop The Bull: The ‘REAL’ Reason Behind The RAW Ratings.” Here’s part of what Russo wrote:

But HERE is where the problem with the WWE and its current ratings lie.
Moments after the baby bull was decapitated from behind, John Cena was in the middle of the ring telling Bray Wyatt, “Payback is a B***H!”. Whoa—now wait a minute. If I brought little Johnny, and he came to see the baby bull—what do I do now? Do I cover his ears? Do I up and leave? Do I never come back to see another WWE event live? Do I stop watching the show all together? What do I do with this BLATANT MIXED MESSAGE THAT WAS JUST THROWN MY WAY?!!!

“You can’t be half pregnant”.

Vince McMahon said that to me many, many years ago, and it has become my #1 rule when scripting wrestling. What Vince meant was that when you make the decision to do something—YOU GO ALL THE WAY WITH IT! So, the WWE made the decision to go family friendly—they told us all–however, the problem is that they’re not going all the way with it—-they are BEING HALF PREGNANT. Is this because in reality they, themselves as a company, haven’t bought 100% into it, and are just trying to “appease” the board, or, are there other reasons simply steaming from greediness?

Could the reason they haven’t committed one way, or the other, be this simple—from a philosophic point of view—the WWE is trying to capture EVERYONE!? Whereas networks these days are going for the demo P (people) 18-49, the WWE is going for P 5-65. In other words—in typical Vince fashion—they want it ALL!!! And, in theory, there is nothing wrong with that—it’s how Vince made all that money. Go for it all—and leave nothing behind. But that’s only in “theory”.

Back in 2002, I almost went back to the WWE because I took it personally that, within the matter of a little over a two-year span, their ratings had split in half from the time that I had left–they had fallen below a 3.0. Today–a DOZEN years later—the ratings are still where they were then. When it comes to eyeballs on TVs every Monday night—half of the people are watching now, compared to when the “Attitude Era” was in full stride. Yeah—they’ll fling every excuse at you. Primarily—the television landscape has changed with the internet, iphones, ipads, whatever–OK, good argument. HOWEVER–if that were the case, then why hasn’t the NFL lost half its audience in the last 12 years? They’re on TV, right? Other ways to watch their product are out there—just like in the WWE’s case.

No–that’s a BS excuse. We saw within a five-minute span on “Raw” last night why the ratings are HALF of what they used to be. In attempting to obtain ALL—the WWE has literally alienated, or “turned off” half their audience in the process. Don’t believe me—see what the IWS community has to say about last night’s “Raw” today. Yeah—they loved the Shield brawling with Evolution at the end—but, the baby bull—not so much. And what about the “families”? Oh, yeah, that bull thing was “cute”, but John Cena swearing—not so much. Now, if you keep doing this week in, and week out, the things you “don’t like” will eventually start to build, or add up—until all of a sudden—it’s OK if we miss “Raw” this week. Well, this week turns into next week, and the next week—until they’re not watching anymore.

By trying to be “all things to all people”–which they can’t be—nobody can–the WWE has shot themselves in the boot. For every kid they are gaining, they are losing an adult, and for every adult they are gaining—they are losing a kid. It a switch-off, an exchange, a vicious cycle.”

There are higher-ups in WWE who believe that Vince McMahon didn’t make the decision for The Undertaker to lose at the last minute, but simply waited until the last minute to let anyone know. There is still a lot of internal belief that Taker losing was the wrong call.

– WWE is planning on turning Tyson Kidd into a masked wrestler. He’s reportedly already had a mask designed by a man who makes Lucha Libre masks. The feeling is that Kidd is a talented wrestler but they’ve marginalized the Tyson Kidd character for so long that there’s nothing they can do with him past the preliminary level.

– WWE Superstars discuss Payback and retribution in the latest WWE Inbox, as seen above.

– As noted, Batista is likely finishing up with WWE for the time being at next week’s RAW. At one point, WWE wanted Batista to put over Roman Reigns in a singles match before leaving on TV.

– There has been at least some talk within WWE of using The Four Horsewomen in some kind of angle at this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. The Four Horsewomen is made up of women’s MMA stars Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke. Natalya was recently working out with the group.

Update on Future of Rey Mysterio in WWE

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Rey Mysterio’s contract with WWE was to have expired a few weeks ago but Rey got word that Vince McMahon had renewed it for one year, even though there was no option period for one year in his contract. However, WWE contracts are allowed to be frozen in the event of an injury.

WWE’s feeling is that Rey missed so much time during his contract due to injuries that he owes them time. He was renewed through May 2015 on that basis. Rey has a very strong downside so he will make good money whether he’s used often on TV or not.

Rey is out of action right now with a hand injury.

Michelle Beadle Talks CM Punk And AJ Incident, WWE Departure, More

0

Source: The Ross Report

ESPN Sportsnation host Michelle Beadle recently appeared on Jim Ross’ The Ross Report podcast, addressing her situation with CM Punk (Phil Brooks) and his fiancée, AJ Lee.

Beadle, a big wrestling fan and former good friend of Punk’s, had a run-in with Punk and Lee at last year’s WWE Tribute To The Troops, where she apparently said some disparaging remarks to the former WWE superstar. Lee confronted Beadle moments later, and the unclear details of the situation made the rounds on wrestling sites, until Punk shed some light on the matter and said Beadle had called him a “f–kface.”

The ESPN host clarified the situation on Ross’ podcast, dismissing the initial reports of flirting with Punk.

“Look, first of all, when I’m flirting people will know I’m flirting,” Beadle commenced. “I’ve also known Phil for a few years at this point and I had, at that time, considered him a friend. We texted on a regular basis, we’ve had dinner numerous times. You know, It’s just one of those things where he’s not my friend, whatever. It was what it was. I thought it was a friendship, I guess I was wrong.”

Beadle started to explain what went down, which is obviously a different story from Punk’s initial story.

“I show up at Tribute to the Troops,” said Beadle, “I see him in the hallway, I say ‘what up, f–kface’, which is my very loving way of referring to my friends. I don’t call my friends… I just… I’m an idiot. I call them all kinds of names, that’s how you know I like you. He was alone in a hallway, he didn’t really say anything. I was with P.R. from WWE and my assistant and we walked by. The next thing I know, she’s in my face yelling at me and I honestly, I swear to you, thought it was a joke.”

As Lee blasted Beadle, and the Sportsnation host thought it was a joke. She said Punk had his back to both of them the whole time, and she couldn’t believe what was happening. WWE public relations were apologetic to her on site, but Beadle said it wasn’t their problem. She thought the situation would be put to rest, until she saw it as a big story on wrestling sites and sports blogs. She decided to send out a three-part tweet on Twitter, explaining her side of the story.

To this day, Beadle and Punk, who were apparently very good friends, have not spoken since.

“Phil and I stopped being friends that day and I wish him the best of luck and that’s it,” said Beadle. “It’s a bummer because I always respected him. I thought he was one of those cool guys that kind of didn’t fall into a certain role and kind of did what he wanted but to watch all that happen and to have somebody tattle on me and have their girlfriend get in my face is a little pathetic. But it’s okay, I’ve moved on.”

Ross asked Beadle if she was surprised Punk left the company so abruptly.

“He loves wrestling,” admitted Beadle. “As a kid he loved it, it was his passion. But I also think there are certain ways of a system that he doesn’t really get down with all that much. He’s got a beautiful place in Chicago, has a great life, great friends…was I shocked that he walked? Not really. Am I shocked he’s still gone? Yes. I think I thought, as a lot of fans have, ‘Oh, maybe he’ll show up at WrestleMania, oh, maybe he’ll show up at this.’ Look, we might not be friends anymore, but I also, as a fan of wrestling, I do miss him. I miss him as a wrestler, I think there’s really, with the exception of Cena, but he’s a different guy altogether, there’s really no one that can get on a microphone and do what he does.”
