Vince Russo Talks Montreal Screwjob: Coming Up With Finish, Undertaker’s Reaction, More

Source: The Steve Austin Show

Vince Russo was the latest guest on Steve Austin’s “The Steve Austin Show,” and one of the topics they discussed in length was the Montreal Screwjob, which happened at WWE Survivor Series 1997 involving Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Listen to it here.

The former WWE writer spoke about his thoughts on the issue, and shed some light on what went down that fateful week.

Russo said they discussed numerous endings with Hart before the main event contest, and after they couldn’t find an alternative, Vince McMahon pulled Russo aside, and told him he was going to call Hart since he needed Russo to be a third party on the telephone.

The controversial character proclaimed his love for Hart, but did confirm he was on the phone and said Hart refused everything, including trying to work in Jim Neidhart to help with the finish.

Russo then said he told McMahon to let Michaels put Hart in his own move, The Sharpshooter, and call for the bell. Russo stated it was late at night on the Thursday before, and they simply couldn’t find any alternatives.

“Vince didn’t say a word,” confessed Russo.

The next day, Russo didn’t hear anything from McMahon, and he didn’t even talk to him at the pay-per-view. Russo had no idea what was going to happen, while he watched the match next to The Undertaker.

“All of a sudden I’m watching, and I see that finish go down,” Russo said. “Taker was going to kill somebody. If he had known, I would not be here today.”

Russo explained that Owen Hart was still on the roster, and that less than a week later, the younger Hart brother called him crying.

“Vince, you have to talk to Bret,” Owen told him. “Bret says if I stay with the WWE, he’s going to disown me as a brother…he (doesn’t) want anything to do with me. Please, you’ve got to talk to him.”

On the other side of the phone, Russo told Owen he should be calling McMahon about his issue, but Owen stated that he couldn’t get a hold of him. Russo also said McMahon would have fired him for talking to Bret. Russo then stated less than a week after that, he called Bret on the phone.

Russo said he wanted to kill everybody, and told Bret at the end of the day, McMahon was looking to protect his entire company. He told Bret it had nothing to do with McMahon not trusting Bret, but more so Eric Bischoff.

He didn’t want the WCW boss to parade his WWE title on his program, much like Bischoff did with Madusa when she joined WCW and put the WWE Women’s Championship in the trash.

Russo then told Bret he stood behind Vince for what he did, despite Hart probably wanting to rip his head off when he heard that statement.

Russo said Vince simply had no choice.

Austin then said it was shocking for him to see at the time, and that Bret was still a close friend to this day, not to mention one of his favorite guys to work with. Austin also stated he agreed with the decision, as far as protecting the business and the company Vince McMahon Sr. had started. He was on board with the decision, but said he was in complete shock and that everyone was completely confused.

CM Punk Finds WWE’s Actions Towards Emma Hypoctricial?

– CM Punk seemingly weighed in on WWE firing Emma in his own way. Punk favorited this tweet from former WWE creative writer Seth Mates:

“Gotta be more to Emma story. Hope she is OK. If it’s just shoplifting, WWE’s level of hypocrisy has reached WWE levels of hypocrisy”

Jim Ross Blog: Emma’s Arrest, John Cena As A Villain, Jericho Vs. Wyatt, More

0

Source: JR’s BBQ

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with a new blog on jrsbarbq.com. As always, you can purchase JR’s BBQ products on WWEshop.com. Here are some highlights from this entry:

– Some fans should be happy that John Cena is going to be cast as a villain in a new Tina Fey/Amy Poehler film. I wonder if the fans that boo Cena today would cheer him tomorrow if he turned heel in WWE? This movie role could also lead to speculation that this current WWE World Title reign for Cena isn’t going to be a long one. I’m still guessing Summer Slam will see a new champ crowned.

– Chris Jericho looks physically good and that’s thanks to DDP Yoga considering Jericho’s massive work load and travel schedule. Bray Wyatt will have a positive experience working with someone new and that’s better than him in the immediate future. This is good, strategic booking with the goal to obviously have some entertaining TV but to help Bray continue to grow as a talent.

– Seems as if too many people are jumping to conclusion regarding Emma’s arrest for shoplifting. Count me as someone who has forgotten to pay for a small item at a grocery store, etc and then went back in to settle up. My dealings with Emma have been nothing but positive when I was traveling to Orlando and Tampa to work with the young talents. I have no issue giving her the benefit of the doubt in this matter.

– My conversation with @RondaRousey on the Ross Report podcast is getting great feedback from MMA and wrestling fans alike. Ronda is cooler than the other side of the pillow and it was one of the most fun interviews that I’ve ever done. I will be glued to my TV this Saturday night to watch her defend her Bantamweight title against Alexis Davis at UFC175.

Brodus Clay Talks About His Storyline With Xavier Woods And Dolphin Activism In Japan

0

Brodus Clay recently spoke with The Shining Wizards podcast and was asked about his storyline with Xavier Woods that was dropped on WWE TV:

“Honestly, I knew about as much as you guys did about the whole process, to be honest with you. I was already frustrated and the walls of communication had already broken down between me and creative. I don’t think anyone really benefited from that angle. It was just confusing. It was just one of those things, and obviously it led to the release. It was just weird. The only good thing was that I got to get my hands on R-Truth, and getting a chance to work him, and my match with him was one of my favorites that I’ve had in a while, so I enjoyed that very much. But I didn’t get a chance to have a big feud and I think the fans were confused and they felt that I was robbed. It was a weird kind of deal.”

He also talked about doing dolphin activism in Japan:

“If you haven’t seen the movie “The Cove,” please check it out. It’s an Academy Award winning documentary. There is a slaughter that goes on every year there where they herd dolphins behind a cove and they take the ones they are going to bring to Sea World and all of the other amusement parks around the world, and then the ones left over are slaughtered and sold for meat which is really a horrible thing. Next to us, the dolphin is the most family-oriented and intellectual animal on the planet. Their families are stronger than ours and their intelligence is still being measured. There’s just no reason for it. So we’re going out there to educate and get more eyes of the world to see that this is something that doesn’t need to be happening… I’m a typical guy. I eat meat, I eat steak, but at the same time there are certain things that just don’t make sense.”

Vince McMahon Calls For More Budget Cuts, Monday Night War Plans, More

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– Vince McMahon has reportedly ordered more major cuts for WWE.

Apparently the cutbacks are working as WWE’s losses for this year won’t be nearly as large as they were expecting just a month ago. The latest number going around is into eight-figures.

There continues to be a lot of fear within WWE that there are major cuts coming besides the talent cuts and some production cuts that have already been done.

As noted, the cuts are a result of WWE’s new TV deal being announced and the increase in fees coming in much lower than WWE officials expected.

– The June 28th WWE live event in Portland, Maine drew 2,500 fans while the June 29th live event in Bangor drew 3,000 fans.

– Ric Flair still has not been given a return date by WWE.

– There is talk of airing The Monday Night War series on Thursday nights as a lead-in for NXT on the WWE Network. The series would begin airing once the current season of Total Divas replays finishes.

I’d personally like to note that should the Monday Night Wars air on Thursdays it would make the most sense for this year as the “Wars” technically starts on September 4th, and 9/4 falls on a Thursday this year.

Police Called To WWE Headquarters Today For A Suspicious Package

0

The Stamford Advocate reports that police were called to WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT today after reports of an unknown white powder. Police investigated and cleared the building of any danger.

“WWE received a suspicious package at its headquarters today and contacted local law enforcement to investigate,” said Tara Carraro, a WWE spokeswoman. “All WWE personnel are safe, and business is being conducted as usual.”

Police did not immediately respond to the Advocate for more information on the incident.

WWE Releases, Then Reinstates Emma, Backstage News On Why

0

WWE announced the following today:

“WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Emma as of today, July 2, 2014. WWE wishes Emma the best in all her future endeavors.”

Then by this evening, the WWE changed their tune, writing:

Upon further evaluation, WWE has reinstated Tenille Dashwood (WWE Diva Emma) but will take appropriate punitive action for her violation of the law.

Source: F4WOnline

There were lots of people within WWE surprised about the firing of Emma, in comparison to other talents that didn’t get released when their offenses were far worse.

Regarding WWE bringing her back quickly, apparently the legal troubles of Jack Swagger and Cameron were brought up and how neither was fired. WWE faced a lot of criticism among fans for the release and that could have influenced their decision also.

Jim Cornette Blasts Christy Hemme, John Gaburick, And More

0

The Undisputed Wrestling Show on AngryMarks.com recently spoke with Jim Cornette and he had some choice words for members of the TNA creative team, as seen below:

TNA Director of Creative Writing David Lagana:

“It’s like they are on f***ing acid. I know Dave Lagana, I like Dave Lagana, would never let him close to the f***ing book. He doesn’t know how to book wrestling because the only experience he had was booking ‘sports entertainment.'”

TNA Vice President of Television Production and Director of Talent Relations John Gaburick:

“The f***ing goof they hired to be the head of their creative the Big John character(Gaburick) was an out of work friend of Kevin Dunn’s who gave a pity job to to produce Tough Enough. He’s never booked a f***ing fart after a dinner at Taco Bell.”

TNA Creative Writer Matt Conway:

“Matt Conway is the guy who Dixie (Carter) put on the creative team when it was Jeff (Jarrett) and Dutch (Mantel) and (Vince) Russo, I’m sorry I threw up a little in my mouth, because they weren’t telling her what was going on. So she took some stooge who worked in the office, he’s a fine kid, but he don’t know s*** from apple butter about how to f***ing book wrestling. She put him on the creative team so he could stooge to her about what they were talking about behind her back.”

TNA Ring Announcer and member of creative team Christy Hemme:

“I can’t say this without laughing out loud! They just put Christy Hemme on the f***ing booking team! What the f***, she couldn’t book Lassie at a pet shop! She’s a nice girl, but what the f***!”

The state of wrestling today:

“If I stop to dwell on the state of wrestling today, it was literally making me an insane person. That is why I just ignore it for the most part. If you care about the business and if you want to see the business succeed, the things that people do that are the people who are in charge will drive you insane.”
