The Rock Confirms Another New Action Movie Role

0

We noted back in June that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was in talks with Universal to star in a movie of the late Robert Ludlim’s “The Janson Directive.”

The Rock confirmed that role on his Twitter tonight and confirmed that Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman will be writing the script.

It was reported in June that The Rock would also be producing the movie.

The book by Ludlim follows a former consular ops agent, Paul Janson, that goes into business as a private security consultant after. The agent leaves the covert ops business after a high number of sanctioned killings. He teams with a sharpshooter and only takes assignments that he believe will help people in need.

He wrote the following on Instagram:

“A real pleasure teaming up w/ Academy Award winning writer, Akiva Goldsman (A BEAUTIFUL MIND) to write THE JANSON DIRECTIVE. Very cool and honored to bring this iconic novel and character to life. Can’t wait… #RobertLudlum #Conspiracy #UniversalStudios #JansonDirective”

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin Returning To WWE Soon?

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

There’s been a lot of speculation lately about Steve Austin possibly working with WWE again as they plugged his podcast on RAW and reportedly ordered production to begin on several Austin t-shirts.

To be more specific, WWE actually told their distributors to go into heavy production of Austin merchandise. This is seen as a sign that Austin could be back on WWE TV in some form or there will be at least a renewed push of his merchandise.

The story remains that Austin is open to returning if the money and creative plan is right.

The “OH MY GOD!” Review: ECW TV 12/14 & 12/21/93

0

TV 1993-12-14 (Matches taped 1993-12-04 at ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA)

Champions
Heavyweight: Sabu
TV: Sabu
Tag: Johnny Gunn & Tommy Dreamer

We open the show with some highlights from last weeks TV show and get a run down of tonight’s show, which includes a tag team title match!

Joey Styles is in the Eagle’s Nest to open the show and we go right to our first match.

“Wildman” Sal Bellomo vs. Don E. Allen, ref John Finnegan
Bellomo throws stuffed animals out to the crowd before the match.  Styles again really puts Bellomo over I really don’t get why Styles loves him so much.  Bellomo with his normal offense of punches, kicks, biting and a standing drop kick.  Bellomo finishes things off with the big splash in 3.16

Matty in the House hypes up the Body Count Match coming up at Holiday Hell.  We then get a video package of the feud between Public Enemy and Badd Company.

JT Smith is in the dressing room.  Smith says next week he is in a 6 man tag match with Terry Funk in the opposite corner and that at Holiday Hell he gets his hands on Kevin Sullivan.  Back to Joey and he throws it to our next match.

Tag Team Champions Johnny Gunn & Tommy Dreamer vs. Kevin Sullivan & Tazmaniac (w/ Woman), ref John Finnegan
Tommy Dreamer comes out by himself and we learn that due to bad weather Johnny Gunn could not get to the building.  Dreamer is willing to put up the titles by himself.  Tod Gordon hits the ring followed for some reason by Shane Douglas.  Douglas says Sullivan and Tazmaniac are not championship material and says he will be Dreamers partner. Dreamer accepts.

Tag Team Champions “The Franchise” Shane Douglas (subbing for Johnny Gunn) & Tommy Dreamer vs. Kevin Sullivan & Tazmaniac (w/ Woman), ref John Finnegan
Sullivan jumps Dreamer from behind but he fights off both Sullivan and Tazmaniac.  Dreamer hits a clothesline, elbow and suplex on Tazmaniac.  Tazmaniac fights back and lands an overhead belly to belly suplex.  The challenges tag back and forth a few times staying all over Dreamer.  Dreamer eventually able to hit a gutwrench suplex on Tazmaniac.  A double clothesline takes both men down.  Dreamer makes the tag and Douglas pulls a chain out of his boot and hits Dreamer with it (yeah, duh).  Tazmaniac makes the cover to win the tag team titles in 4.03.  All three men beat on Dreamer after the match.

Back up to Styles in the Nest.  We learn that at Holiday Hell Dreamer versus Douglas has just been signed.  We go to Dreamer in the locker room.  Dreamer is really mad at Douglas.  Dreamer has two things Douglas doesn’t and that’s the fans and heart.

We go to the ring where Joey Styles is waiting to interview Terry Funk.  Funk talks about his match against Sabu at Holiday Hell.  Funk says that he has too many enemies that will try to interfere and that he is also worried that Sabu is going to try and run from him.  Funk says he needs a few good men with him at ringside to stop all this from happening.  Funk brings out Bad Breed as his back up.  Funk says Ian and Axl Rotten will do exactly as he says.  Next week Funk says he is going to interview Sabu.

We go to video packages of both Terry Funk and Sabu.  During Sabu’s video we get a new and really good promo from Paul E. Dangerously.

Sandman (w/ Peaches) vs. Tony “Hitman” Stetson, ref Jim Molineaux
Stetson hits the ring and goes right after Sandman  Stetson clotheslines Sandman to floor but Sandman comes back.  Sandman appears to have lost his wetsuit as he is in his old “Mr. Sandman” tights.  Sandman comes off the top rope with a flying back elbow.  Sandman with a samoan drop for 2 and Stetson rolls to the floor.  Stetson pulls Sandman out of the ring and throws him into the ring post.  Stetson suplexes Sandman back into the ring.  Stetson comes off the top with a leg drop but pulls up Sandman at 2.  Power bomb by Stetson for 2.  Stetson comes off the top with a cross body but Sandman rolls through and gets the pin in 3.56.

Mr. Hughes (w/ Jason) vs. Chad Austin, ref Jim Molineaux
The feed cuts out and we go to Joey in the Nest but all the lights are out because of the weather.  Back in the ring and a giant brawl is going on with a bunch of wrestlers.  Sandman and Mr. Hughes are going at it and Shane Douglas and Tommy Dreamer are beating on each other.  The rest of the locker room is brawling around the ring.  Hughes and Douglas double team Dreamer.  Sandman pulls Dreamer out of the ring to save him but Douglas goes after him.  Everyone now brawls around the ring again.

Back from break and Joey closes out the show.

My thoughts on the show…
Hot way to close the show and Paul E. steals the spotlight again with his promo, but overall another thumbs down this week.

TV 1993-12-21 (Matches taped 1993-12-04 at ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA)

Champions
Heavyweight: Sabu
TV: Sabu
Tag: Kevin Sullivan & Tazmaniac

The show starts off with Tommy Dreamer in the ring and he’s already challenged “The Franchise” Shane Douglas not wanting to wait until Holiday Hell.  Douglas answers the challenge.

“The Franchise” Shane Douglas vs. Tommy Dreamer, ref John Finnegan
After the opening video we join our match in progress with Douglas hitting a swinging neck breaker then dropping Dreamer stomach first over the top rope.  Dreamer goes to the floor and Douglas follows going after the ribs of Dreamer, which are taped after the attack he suffered last week.  Back in the ring Douglas stays on the ribs with a bear hug and shoulder blocks to the ribs in the corner.  Belly to back and a body scissor locked in.  Dreamer tries to fight and goes for a slam but can’t hold Douglas up.  Dreamer able to hit two inverted atomic drops and a clothesline.  Dreamer chokes Douglas with his tape and throws Douglas to the floor.  Dreamer goes out after him and nails Douglas with a chair.  Back in the ring Dreamer with an enziguri for a 1 count.  Dreamer goes for a slam and Shane’s foot hits the ref in the face and knocks him down.  Dreamer has Shane pinned but the ref is out.  Douglas pulls a chain out his boot and nails Dreamer with it.  Shane wraps it around Dreamers hand and then lies down.  The ref wakes up and sees the chain and DQs Dreamer.  8.12 of the match is shown.

We get a replay and then go to Styles in the Eagle’s Nest and Joey brings us to some highlights of what has gone on between Woman Douglas and Dreamer the past few weeks.

Jay Sulli is in the locker room with Tod Gordon and we go to last weeks power outage in the arena.  Sulli hasn’t been around for a month and a half, I was hoping he was gone.  We see the big brawl and go back to Gordon who hypes it as being what ECW is all about.  Gordon announces a lights out battle royal.  Wait how will people see if the lights are out?  Seems stupid.  Tod promises that someone is definitely going to blow up at Holiday Hell.  JT Smith will tag with “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka to take on Tag Team Champions Kevin Sullivan and Tazmaniac.  We see a short highlight video of Snuka.

Terry Funk is out to the ring next and he’s here to interview Sabu.  He calls him out and Bad Breed have Chad Austin tied to Sabu’s cart and are rolling him to the ring.  Austin does not look like a willing participant.  Bad Breed throws Austin into the ring and Funk beats him up.  Paul E. Dangerously comes out into the aisle and tells Funk his father died when he realized his son was a piece of shit.  Funk challenges Paul.  Paul E. says in Philly the fight on the streets and tells Funk to come get him.  Funk goes towards Paul E. and he runs to the locker room.

Tag Team Champions Kevin Sullivan & Tazmaniac (w/ Woman) vs. Mike Vee & “Stormin” Mike Norman, ref Jim Molineaux
Tazmaniac thows Vee to the floor.  Belly to belly and clothesline to Norman.  Sullivan using a chair outside of the ring.  Sullivan tagged in and he smashes Normans head into the mat and hits a double stomp.  Tree of woe knees.  Tazmaniac and Sullivan beat on Norman in the corner and Vee throws in the towel ending the match in 1.41.  Woman comes in and throws a towel over Sullivan’s eyes to calm him down.  Tazmaniac sees it and covers his own eyes and throws himself onto the mat laughing.

We get some comments from participants in the lights out battle royal.  Johnny Hotbody, Tony Stetson, Rockin’ Rebel, Shane Douglas and Kevin Sullivan all think that they are going to win the match.

We get a video package of the feud between Public Enemy and Badd Company.

Paul E. Dangerously is backstage for an interview.  He sings a song about Terry Funk to the tune of some Christmas song.

Sandman, Sal Bellomo & JT Smith vs. Terry Funk & Bad Breed, ref John Finnegan
Bellomo charges, followed by Smith and Sandman.  Funk pulls Smith to the floor and slams his face into the apron.  Lights go out again and Kevin Sullivan shows up and goes after Smith.  Lights keep going on and off.  More wrestlers hit the ring and another brawl breaks out.  We get a bell at 1.16 as the match is declared a no contest.  The entire locker room is in or around the ring brawling.  Bellomo and Rockin’ Rebel end up in the ring fighting with chairs.  The brawl continues, Funk and Bad Breed throw Smith into a table in the ring.  This has been going on for about 4 minutes and we still have 5 more left in the show.  Jason shows up on the stage and asks how the fans like his suit.  The ring is littered with chairs and Bellomo stands in it screaming like a maniac.

Joey closes out the show from the nest.

My thoughts on the show…
Nice way to bring things into the next big show even with no Sabu, PE or Badd Company.  Good opening match and the stuff with Funk and Dangerously was entertaining.  The brawl at the end was fun.  Thumbs up for tonight’s show.

Final Thoughts:

Two of the matches had a decent amount shown but most were just a few clips.  At some point it is likely that All Japan will release the entire tournament, however with their ownership situation around this time it may get lost in the shuffle.  Worth a watch if you wanted to see how the matches ended but really just a highlights show.
