Ray “The Crippler” Stevens To Join The 2015 WWE Hall Of Fame

0

WrestlingInc reports that former AWA star Ray Stevens, the long-time tag team partner of Pat Patterson, is scheduled to be inducted into the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame.

He will be inducted by Patterson, who for years has lobbied for Stevens inclusion in the WWE Hall of Fame. The timing and location seemed ideal this year given Stevens’ long-time connection to the greater San Francisco area. For several years Stevens was a major star for Roy Shires as well as the AWA. WWE is expected to make the official announcement in February.

Nick Diaz Goes Missing Before UFC 183: Dana White, Diaz’s Agent Speak On His Whereabouts

0

In a situation likely to surprise few, UFC 183 headliner Nick Diaz went missing in action for a while this week.

The Stockton native was slated to get on a plane to head to Las Vegas for today’s open workouts, but missed his flight. UFC Embedded cameras were at the airport, which showed a vacant airport with no Diaz in sight. His planned main event bout with Anderson Silva is now in question.

Due to the flight being missed, Diaz missed today’s open workouts. UFC Vice President of Public Relations Dave Sholler said the company is still confident the fight will happen.

“We had staff that saw him yesterday in the airport and he elected to not get on the flight,” Sholler said Wednesday. “His bags did arrive. Again, I can’t speak to why Nick decided not to get on the flight, but we’re moving on as if the fight is happening Saturday. We’re very confident he’s going to be here today.”

Diaz’s manager Lloyd Pierson told MMA Fighting earlier on Wednesday the UFC knew where Nick Diaz was, and that he’d be at open workouts. He said the UFC was spinning the situation to make Diaz look bad. Diaz ended up missing two flights scheduled by the company.

UFC President Dana White placed blame on himself while on The Jim Rome Show:

“I did it to myself again. I made a fight with Nick Diaz, a big main event fight. You know, when you get him in the office and you sit down, and he’s like, ‘Well, you know, I feel like I haven’t been paid right. Pay me right.’ He’s being paid right for this fight. It doesn’t matter how much you pay him, he’s not going to. I did it to myself, so I can’t sit here and cry about Nick Diaz. It’s Nick being Nick,” White said.

White later had a lighthearted approach to the situation, posting a milk carton with a picture of Diaz on the side with the caption #WhereIsNateDiaz

– UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta recently spoke with ESPN.com and commented on CM Punk’s debut in The Octagon

Fertitta promised Punk’s UFC debut will come against someone “competitive” and said it will probably be a pay-per-view co-main event.

Fertitta said they will most likely go outside of the promotion for Punk’s first opponent but it’s going to be left up to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. Fertitta said:

“But I’m going to defer to Joe Silva. We’ll let him bring two to three names to the table and we’ll figure it out from there. But I guarantee you it will be a competitive guy.”

Fertitta commented on the type of opponent he sees for Punk’s first fight:

“I think it has to be somebody with some level of credentials. It’s not just going to be some guy off the street. It’s going to be somebody who is a professional mixed martial artist — certainly somebody who MMA media will recognize and know.”

A WWE source noted today that Sting likely won’t be appearing on WWE TV until the Fast Lane pay-per-view on February 22nd. With that said, anything is possible and the WWE writers have been working on re-doing the scripts for Thursday’s live SmackDown but Sting is not expected.

Backstage News On Why The Blue Meanie And Tommy Dreamer Weren’t Used In The WWE Rumble

There was a pitch within WWE, and on social media, to have ECW Original The Blue Meanie be a surprise entrant in the 30-man Royal Rumble main event on Sunday but that obviously didn’t happen.

The idea behind the pitch was that Meanie would have received a good pop from the Philadelphia crowd and for new fans, it would have been a way to re-introduce him because Meanie and bWo partner Stevie Richards are hosting the upcoming ECW Unreleased DVD.

Tommy Dreamer’s name also came up as a possible surprise entrant because he’s local but Bubba Ray Dudley was the only former ECW guy officials wanted to bring back. It was said that officials didn’t want more than 1 or 2 ECW guys because they feel that nobody cares about ECW anymore.

Backstage News On Why Justin Gabriel Quit WWE During Royal Rumble Weekend

As noted, Justin Gabriel quit WWE this past weekend, after signing with WWE in 2008.

Gabriel requested his release from WWE officials because he realized he was in a position where the company was not going to do anything else with him beyond Superstars, Main Event and NXT. Gabriel being pulled from the Royal Rumble main event may have been the last straw.

Gabriel wanted more than what WWE was giving him for his pro wrestling career and is looking forward to working the indies. Gabriel will be working as PJ Black from here on out.

Brock Lesnar Already In Talks With Other Promotions?

0

It’s public knowledge that unless Brock Lesnar has secretly signed a new deal with WWE, his contract with the company is up shortly after WrestleMania 31. Spike TV President Kevin Kay recently spoke to MMAFighting about Bellator MMA President Scott Coker, and noted that the former Strikeforce CEO is talking with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

“He [Coker] has the relationships to talk to everybody,” Kay said. “He’s with Fedor [Emelianenko]. He’s talking to Brock, he’s talking to Gina [Carano]. These are people he’s known for years, so we are in a better position to potentially land those people.”

Coker admitted last month to MMAFighting that the promotion has spoken to Lesnar, although there haven’t been any negotiations.

“There hasn’t been any serious dialogue,” Coker said. “But when the time comes to have serious dialogue, we’ll be right there.”

UFC President Dana White recently discussed Lesnar’s possible impending free agency on UFC Tonight, as seen in the video above. White played coy when discussing a Lesnar return to the UFC and stated that both sides can talk when Lesnar’s WWE contract is up.

“Brock Lesnar has a contract with the WWE,” White said. “He knows he can call me whenever that contract’s up.”
