Attorney Talks Pending Lawsuits Against WWE

0

On a recent episode of Dobashi’s Radio Takedown, veteran independent grappler Diafullah Dobashi welcomed attorney Konstantine Kyros, a Boston-based lawyer with almost 20 years of experience in the legal field. Kyros discussed the basis of his pending lawsuits against WWE, the most recent of which was filed on behalf of Vito LoGrasso and Evan Singleton. The official site for Kyros Law Offices states that the WWE “failed to warn and engaged a campaign of disinformation about the nature of the head injuries wrestlers sustained in WWE events leading to long term disabling injuries and death.” Kyros also represents Billy Jack Haynes in his suit against WWE.

“I have to be a little careful to keep my answers from impacting my existing clients and their individual cases,” Kyros began. “But I will be as forthright as I can subject to that limit … I think wrestlers and the community need to understand the claims and the nature of these cases and make an educated decision about whether to support these cases and the goals of these lawsuits … The cases could not be brought unless wrestlers themselves feel that the WWE has done them harm, either through negligence or misconduct.”

Kyros said that he expects we will see thousands of instances of brain damage suffered by wrestlers, adding that he expects that there will be further litigation surrounding such injuries. He said that according to his clients’ theory, WWE had an obligation to stage matches in such a way that would prevent such injuries as well as a duty to warn performers that their work could result in serious injuries. Kyros likened wrestlers’ risks of head injuries to workers who experience health problems after breathing in harmful chemicals or asbestos on at job site. He explained that WWE is the target of ligation because that is where most of the injuries take place.

The attorney said that money isn’t necessary the motivating factor in filing claims against WWE, noting that in civil disputes people often file cases because they feel that they have been wronged or victimized in certain ways and that compensatory damages are the manner in which justice manifests itself for litigants.

“Suing the WWE is not an easy way to make money,” said Kyros. “This is a long and hard fight. If, as a lawyer, I was simply out to make money, there are plenty of other cases that I could bring—cases that have already been fought and won many times over—cases types that many lawyers make a good living on … Suing the WWE is not going to be an easy task simply to make money. Anyone who thinks that any of these wrestlers who are bringing these cases just to make a quick buck is just plain wrong.”

Kyros noted that he takes cases against WWE on a contingency fee but said he is a believer in his cause and wants to get compensation for his clients. It’s worth noting that in addition to compensatory damages, the pending suit includes a demand that WWE create a “medical monitoring program” for wrestlers.

The “OH MY GOD!” Review: ECW Presents The Extreme Royal Rumble 12/20/96

1996-12-20 at Fairgrounds Fieldhouse in Middletown, NY

Champions
World: Raven
TV: Shane Douglas
Tag Team: Gangstas

Joey Styles is in town for tonights show as it’s a TV taping. Joey hypes to crowd up to open the the show when Taz and Bill Alfonso hit the ring. Taz is his normal grump face. Taz calls out Sabu and both he and the fans chant for him. The lights go out and Sabu is in the ring!! The ref calls for the bell.

ECW Extreme Rumble
This match, as explained by Joey Styles on the TV version, is sort of a come as you are type event as most wrestlers opt to come out in their street clothes since they’re not dressed to wrestle yet. The Eliminators hit the ring and hit total elimination twice on Sabu as Taz goes to the floor. It should be noted that tag teams can enter together and you can be eliminated via pinfall or over the top elimination. So Sabu is #1 and the Eliminators are #2. Tag Team Champions The Gangstas hit the ring  at #3 and the fight is on. Eliminators hit total elimination on both Gangstas and toss them out! Then a Spike piledriver on Sabu.

Rob Van Dam is out next at #4. Van Dam is wearing the most ridiculous looking checkered pants. It’s not part of his ring gear he actually forgot to take off his pants it seems. Balls Mahoney makes his ECW debut next at #5. Spike Dudley out next at #6. In comes Little Guido at #7. Eliminators are destroying everyone. Spike gets hit with total elimination and pinned.

Buh Buh Ray Dudley hits the ring at #8. Buh Buh presses Guido over his head and throws him to the floor. Van Dam and Balls are gone, it happens off camera. Saturn drops Buh Buh with a neck breaker followed by a springboard moonsault. Chris Candido is out now at #9 and he joins the Eliminators in going after Buh Buh and Sabu. Saturn with a falcon’s arrow on Sabu. Brian Lee joins the match next at #10. Lee chokeslams Buh Buh from the apron through a table eliminating him as TV Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas hits the ring with Francine at #11. Kronus was tossed out at some point off camera.

Tommy Dreamer is the next participant to join the match at #12. Douglas eliminates himself to avoid Dreamer. Tommy gets a chair and goes after Lee. D-Von Dudley comes out at #13 and goes after Dreamer. . Sandman comes out at #14 to a huge ovation and takes down Saturn. Out goes Saturn.

Louie Spicolli is next at #15 and he goes right after Candido and tosses him, getting a measure of revenge from TV two week ago. Dreamer charges Lee but gets backdropped over the top rope. Louie jumps on the back of Lee but Lee manages to throw him off and too the floor.

BWO music hits and they all join the match, Stevie, Meanie, and Nova all clock in at #16. Lee immediately clotheslines Blue Meanie and Super Nova out of the ring. Stevie Richards hits a super kick on Sandman, but then gets tossed by Lee. Fans are pissed about the fast elimination to Stevie. D-Von had been eliminated off camera. Lee gets rid of Sandman. Sabu comes off a chair with air Sabu and clotheslines Lee sending him over the top to the floor to pick up the victory in 21.17. The #1 draw Sabu wins. That was lots a fun.

GQ Gorgeous Quartermaine vs. Spike Dudley (w/ Sign Guy Dudley)
I hate both these guys. The fans agree as a “You both suck” chant quickly starts up. Spike fucks up a sunset flip from the apron into the ring but recovers nicely with a small package. GQ has the upper hand using his size advantage. This is probably the only match up where that could be said. GQ eventually misses a top rope leg drop and Spike hits the tornado bulldog for the win in 5.46.

D-Von Dudley vs. Buh Buh Ray Dudley (w/ Sign Guy Dudley), ref Jim Molineaux
A slow start for this guys they keep it in the ring and actually do some wrestling moves to start off. D-Von hits a belly to back suplex and head butt for 2. Buh Buh comes back and hits a drop kick. Buh Buh with two headbutts to the groin and he throws D-Von outside and follows after him. Chair shots all over the places. Back in the ring D-Von comes off the second turn buckle but Buh Buh drop kicks the chair into his face. D-Von though comes back and hits a rocker dropper on the chair. Head butt from the second rope gets a 2 count for D-Von. Buh Buh bomb for 2. Buh Buh with the flapjack into a cutter for the victory in 9.15. Joel Gertner comes out and announces D-Von as the winner on points. Buh Buh nails Gertner with a clothesline and top rope splash.

“Bulldozer” Brian Lee vs. Louie Spicolli, ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Spicolli wastes no time going after Lee and they take it to the floor. They fight over to the TV truck, the same one Pitbull 2 got choke slammed from last time in Middletown. Spicolli goes face first into it. Back at ringside Lee suplexes Louie through a table. In the ring Lee lays a chair on Spicolli and then comes off the second turnbuckle but the chair is thrown into his face. Spicolli gets Lee up for the DVD but we get the same finish from a few weeks ago as Lee chokeslams the ref. Spicolli hits the DVD but goes to check on the ref. Lee hits a chokeslam and John Finnegan comes in a makes the three count. Lee picks up the victory in 4.25.

World Champion Raven (w/ Lori Fullington) vs. Mikey Whipwreck, ref John Finnegan
The bWo show up in the crowd before the match gets going. After some back and forth Mikey hits a head scissor and a drop kick that sends Raven to the floor. Mikey follows with a dive and whips Raven into the crowd. Back in the ring Mikey slams a chair onto the back of Raven and drop toe holds him onto the opened chair. Mikey sets the chair in the corner and sends Raven into it twice. Raven comes back and hits the DDT for the win in 5.44. Sandman hits the ring but Raven is able to nail him with a DDT. Lori gets the cane and nails Sandman with it. Mikey tries to break it up but gets nailed with the belt. Sandman back up with the cane but Raven ducks nails Sandman with the belt and hits another DDT. Raven breaks the cane but Sandman is back up and he hits a DDT and leaves with the belt.

Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Candido, ref Jim Molineaux
Van Dam got changed for the match here. The first five minutes is some nice back and forth between the two with neither man really getting the upper hand. Van Dam eventually takes control hitting a drop kick. Candido slips after a leap frog but quickly quiets a “You fucked up” chant with a diving power bomb followed by a snap suplex. A snap belly to back suplex gets Candido a 2 count. Van Dam comes back with a powerslam but Candido trips him up as he tries to go up top. Candido with a piledriver for 2. Candido misses a corner charge and Van Dam hits a springboard leg lariat. Van Dam with a monkey flip out of the corner and he comes off the top rope with a karate kick. Double undertook front suplex. Candido gets a breather back dropping Van Dam out of the ring. Van Dam comes back in the ring with a chair and throws in at Candido. Candido catches it ducks a kick and nails Van Dam with it. Van Dam though comes back and kicks the chair into the face of Van Dam. Candido hits the ref and they both go down. Shane Douglas hits the ring and gives Candido a chain. Van Dam gets nailed and out from the crowd comes Louie Spicolli in a ref shirt. Louie rolls the ref out of the ring and lays on the mat covering his head pretending to be the knocked out ref as Candido goes for the cover. Candido goes over to Spicolli and gets nailed with a DVD. Van Dam with a splash as the actual ref gets back in the ring and counts the 3 in 13.14. Spicolli gets some payback for what Douglas, Candido and Brian Lee did to him a few weeks ago.

Tag Team Champions The Gangstas vs. The Eliminators, ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Saturn and New Jack quickly bust each other open. A few minutes later and Kronus and Mustafa are also bloodied. All four men to the floor where the fight continues. Kronus is a bloody mess. Mustafa and Saturn head back into the ring as the other two brawl on the floor. Mustafa with a double under hook suplex for 2. New Jack nails Saturn with a chair and then goes after Kronus. 187 attempt onto Kronus but Saturn drop kicks the chair into the face of New Jack. Mustafa is set up and nailed with total elimination and get the win and titles in 8.25. The fans explode. Mustafa refuses to give up the belts but Jack talks him into it and hands the titles over to the new Champions. The Eliminators raise the hands of the Gangstas showing respect after all the brawls the teams have had in the past.

Balls Mahoney vs. Sabu, ref John Finnegan
Balls is dressed like a biker. Sabu quickly sends Balls to the floor and hits a triple jump dive into the crowd. Back in the ring Sabu with a leg drop for 2. A rana is reversed into a power bomb. Balls gets in a little offense but Sabu hits a springboard leg lariat and Arabian press for 2. Balls catches Sabu coming off the ropes with a power slam followed up by a leg drop. Balls goes up top but Sabu cuts him off and hits a super rana but Balls kicks out at 2. They go to the floor and Sabu puts Balls through a table with a slingshot leg drop from in the ring to out of it. Sabu throws a chair at Balls and it opens around his head so its just hanging on his neck. HAHA. Balls comes back but misses a top rope leg drop. Sabu with a triple jump moonsault for the win in 7.48.

TV Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas & Francine vs. Tommy Dreamer & Beulah, ref Jim Molineaux
Douglas on the mic before the match and he talks shit about Middletown, Beulah and Dreamer. He tells Francine that if Beulah gets in the way to “slap the taste of that bitch Kimona right out of her mouth”. Let’s take a moment to think back on how hot Beulah is………Shane freaks out when the ref goes to check him for weapons. Shane had a chain in his knee pads. Beulah on the mic tells Francine she’s going to kick her ass. Shane charges her but Tommy stops him and takes him outside of the ring and into the guard rail. Shane turns things around and now has the advantage on Dreamer. In the ring Shane remains in control. Francine comes in and Tommy grabs her by the puss. Shane with a piledriver on the belt. Shane goes up top but Tommy cuts him off and hits a superplex. Tommy with a DDT on the belt but Francine puts Shane’s foot on the rope to stop the count. Tommy drags Francine in the ring and tags in Beulah. They roll around on the ground. Shane back up nails Dreamer and grabs Beulah for a belly to belly. Dreamer though back up gets Shane in a school and gets the pin in 5.58. Shane grabs Dreamer and plants him with a single arm DDT. Beulah grabs Shane from behind and he elbows her. Shane nails the ref and gets the chain out of his pocket. Dreamer nailed with the chain and as Shane goes to hits Beulah Pitbull 2 comes out and makes the save nailing Shane with a press slam. Dreamer gets back up and spikes Francine with a piledriver. Dreamer, Beulah and Pitbull celebrate in the ring and leave with the TV Title.

My thoughts on the show…
Decent show here, rumble match was fun. The fact that it was something brand new for ECW made it even cooler. Big title change as the Eliminators, after a month or so of looking totally dominant, get back the tag team gold. Looking forward to see if a new team steps up to chase after the gold. Van Dam/Candido was decent and the ending to the main event sent the crowd home happy. Overall a decent show.

WWE Releases NXT Star, Update On WWE Changing The Divas Division, Rumored Heel Turn

0

Source: PWInsider

PWInsider reports that NXT star CJ Parker requested his release, which was granted last Saturday and noted that the release was amicable, and WWE allowed Parker to work last weekend’s AXXESS events.

– We reported earlier that over WrestleMania 31 week that there was a lot of talk about WWE changing how the Divas are portrayed. It was noted that due to the “#GiveDivasAChance” campaign and the success of Total Divas, some WWE officials had their “eyes opened” in regards to how the Divas are booked with the feeling that they need to do more with their female competitors.

Part of changing how the Divas division will be portrayed apparently includes bringing up new talents and introducing new characters. There’s still a lot of talk about former NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte making her main roster debut soon but we haven’t heard anything about other NXT Divas that might get called up.

On a related note, there have been rumors of doing a full heel turn with Emma on the main roster, which has been teased recently on NXT.

Credit: F4WOnline.com / WrestlingObserver.com

WWE’s Monday Night Raw numbers were the highest they’ve had since RAW 1000 (2012) benefiting from the positive buzz from a great WrestleMania show Sunday as well as no competition from the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

TV By The Numbers had times listed all wrong so these hours could be incorrect, but the show did an average of 5.35 million viewers.

The three hours were 5.60 million viewers, 5.23 million viewers and 5.27 million viewers, but it’s not clear which hour each is. The big number was either in the first or second hour.

Was Brock Lesnar Allowed To ‘Blade’ At WrestleMania?

0

There was a lot of speculation during WrestleMania 31 that Brock Lesnar did a “blade job” and cut himself open when they did the ring post spot. Several readers sent the following GIF, which appears to show a referee handing a blade off to Roman Reigns, presumably so Reigns could give it to Lesnar when he got back in the ring.

If this is true, it would likely mean Vince McMahon allowed the blade job, something WWE has generally been against for years now. Below is the GIF:

Why Wyatt Missed Raw, WWE Turns Crowd Sound Down At Raw, Lana Getting Big Push

Source: F4WOnline

– Many fans at RAW last night noted that it appeared WWE muted the crowd audio towards the end of the show. Fans in the arena live noted that the NXT chants and chants mocking the main even were very loud in person and when Sting did his post-RAW interview, he was drowned out by chants for The Undertaker.

– Vince McMahon is super-high on Lana and reportedly has big plans for her.

– Bray Wyatt was kept off last night’s RAW in San Jose due to the sprained ankle he suffered before WrestleMania 31.

WWE Raw Preshow Notes 3/30/15

– Since everyone was in town for Raw, this week’s preshow is LIVE from the SAP Center. The preshow is set up in the arena just like it was throughout 2014… Byron Saxton hosts with David Otunga and Corey Graves. No Scott Stanford, and he wasn’t seen at Raw either… Maybe he got the can…. I can dream.

– We go back to Mania and the last minutes of the main event. Rollins cashes in MITB and beats Lesnar and Reigns to become the NEWWWWWW WWE World Champion. The panel discusses the entire situation and then we get a clip of Rollins on the TODAY Show from this morning.

– Fandango takes on Swagger in the background for Superstars, Fandango wins.

– Brock Lesnar IS HERE tonight, and he will address last night.

– We go back to Sting vs. HHH and all of the run ins. RUN-IN-MANIA!!! Byron Saxton describes it as a “dream” of run ins. I’ll go along with that, it felt very cartoony/comic book to me, so I guess it feeling like a fantasy dream makes sense… The panel discusses the trips match while R-Truth is in action against Luke Harper and the crowd is absolutely ridiculously hot… for R-Truth no less…

– Now we have a look at the Authority/Rock and Rousey segment from last night. Several clips are shown and the panel discusses. Good God this ate up most of the preshow… R-Truth beats Harper… LAME

– The announcers do a pretty good job hyping all of tonight’s Raw with only a couple minutes left. Cena has issued an open challenge tonight, they talk Rusev/Lana situation, they talk Sandow/Miz… Should be a fun Raw…

The WWE Raw Report 3/30/15 from the SAP Center in San Jose, CA.

Cue Stephanie McMahon… And here comes the bullshit. “Ronda Rousey” chants. Steph explains that Seth Rollins flew to NYC to do the Today show this morning. Therefore, Seth is still in the air and hasn’t arrived at the arena tonight yet. Stephanie has no doubt Rollins will be up for the challenge… Ugh cliffhanger BS with likely no payoff…

As Brock bounces around like a caged animal Paul Heyman offers a SPOILER for tonight. For the first time in over a decade Brock Lesnar will wrestle tonight on Raw… Over a decade? Wow… Heyman proclaims Brock will regain the title tonight… Assuming Seth will accept the challenge… Argh.

Bryan with the Mexican Suspended Ceiling and then he pulls Dolphs chin back to change up the hold. Back to their feet, Bryan does a back flip off the top to avoid Dolph but runs into a Ziggler dropkick… Ziggler then launches himself in a cross body that takes both men over the top to the floor as we head to break…

On the WWE App – Bryan has control back inside the ring. The two men get into a chop fight and stiff slug fest. Ziggler has Bryan down with a head scissors, Bryan tries to stand on his head to escape and ZIGGLER TURNS IT INTO A PILEDRIVER of sorts… NICE…. WWE World Champion Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar

So they’re both in the ring. They both get announced and the match is getting ready when…. Seth Rollins decides he is jet lagged and his foot hurts from Curb Stomping everyone last night. Rollins says he’s a fighting champion, he will give the rematch but not tonight… Lesnar snaps and goes out after Seth… Rollins tries to escape through the crowd but Brock hooks him.. Lesnar knocks Seth around and throws him into the ring… Lesnar with a GERMAN SUPLEX but ROLLINS LANDS ON HIS FEET…, PELE KICK BY ROLLINS… LESNAR POPS RIGHT UP!!!!!!

– Back on Raw, the camera man and Michael Cole are being stretchered out while the rest of the announce team are still taken out from getting womped with a fucking table!!! We go back and see highlights of the carnage.

– Backstage Renee Young talks with Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie is beside herself and explains her actions in suspending Brock Lesnar. Stephanie fines Brock Lesnar for all the damage and emotional stress he has caused. Stephanie mentions Brock just re-signed with them so he can’t go anywhere. Steph proclaims “I OWN THAT SON OF A BITCH”.

— Commercial Break —

– LMAO, Byron Saxton is the LONE announcer as we return. Saxton is standing behind the flipped over desk. lol

3. Damien Sandow vs. Stardust

Saxton’s commentary is the first bad thing on this show. He just sort of calls the show instead of adding emotion. Sadow removes his glasses to a pop. Saxton basically ignores the match a lot of the time, and talks about Brock Lesnar’s carnage. There’s long pauses in commentary. Sandow with offense early, Cody comes back and takes over. Saxton calls Stardust “Goldust”. Sandow with the Skull Crushing Finale out of nowhere for the win in 2:24…

The Miz attacks Sandow right after the match… Skull Crushing Finale on Sandow… Miz stands over Sandow and talks trash. “Asshole” chants. Miz tells Sandow this is his fault. Saxton disappears on commentary for the entire attack. I don’t even mind Saxton but he is TERRIBLE tonight. Miz soaks in the boos.

– Sting interview tonight on the Network after Raw. What’s next?

— Commercial Break —

– Back on Raw, it’s still Saxton behind the flipped desk… Cummon people set the desk up. We revisit clips of WrestleMania and the media leading in to the event. I don’t know if he’s supposed to be selling the Brock thing or if he’s just bombing, but Saxton really needs to ditch this monotone speech because it’s terrible and dragging a white hot show down.

– Curtis Axel in the ring. It took 29 men to eliminate him from the Andre Battle Royal. The road to AX-Treme Rules starts now…

4. Curtis Axel vs. NEVILLE

He’s ditched the “Adrian”. Vince hates first names that sound weak. Neville starts out with a top rope springboard moonsault to the floor onto Axel… And THEN the bell rings. Neville with a double handspring flip, another flip, flying forearms, all sorts of fast paced stuff… And then THE RED ARROW finishes Axel off in 1:11…

That was fun, but Saxton is choking it.

– John Cena’s open challenge is next… God I hope commentary picks up before Saxton kills yet another segment.

— Commercial Break —

– Byron Saxton still at ringside. We learn that Michael Cole may have received a cervical fracture. Wow, that was an abrupt way to write Cole out. I found this funny on Cole’s Wikipedia while it’s still there. “On March 30th, 2015, Michael Cole passed away at 9:42 P.M. after suffering head trauma at the hands of a ruthless F5 from Brock Lesnar during Monday Night Raw.”

– John Cena on his way to the ring. the fans “John Cena Suuuucks” to his theme music. The crowd aren’t in favor of Cena, but Cena puts over the crowd. Cena puts over their singing ability, so they continue to sing that he sucks. Cena calls out anyone for an open challenge…. Saxton says “here comes Rusev”… But instead we get…. DEAN AMBROSE!!!!! WOW. Didn’t he die last night?

5. US Champion John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose

Crowd solidly behind Ambrose. It’s back and forth, basic stuff, Cena actually takes a powder… And we go to commercial 2 minutes in.

On the App, Dean in control with a wrist lock, and THANK GOD, HERE COMES JERRY LAWLER TO JOIN COMMENTARY… Maybe the King will have the sense to turn the table back over. I know how hard that must be… Cena takes over with a chinlock. Dean escapes but CENA WITH A DROPKICK for 2… Back to the chinlock and we go back to USA.

Back from break, Ambrose makes the comeback and lands the bulldog. Dean off the top, Cena ducks and Dean lands on his feet. Cena with the You can’t see mee, but Ambrose nails John… lol. Cena with a BIG BOOT???? Dean comes back for his big clothesline, but Cena drops him with the Blue Thunder and the 5 knuckle shuffle as the crowd just boos… Cena tries the AA, but Ambrose counters with a sunset flip for 2….. AMBROSE CLOTHESLINES CENA OUT OF HIS SHOES… 1….2…. Cena kicks out.

Cena tries another AA, Dean escapes, and they trade punches. Ambrose with a Tornado DDT for a near fall. Cena rolls outside. Dean dives off the top rope with the elbow right onto Cena’s head on the floor… Awesome. Dean rolls Cena back inside and Cena catches Dean in the AA!!! 1……….2……… AMBROSE KICKS OUT OF THE AA!!!!!

Cena tries an AA off the top rope, but Ambrose fights him off and Dean with a sit out Powerbomb, but somehow Cena rolls it over into the STF…. No selling turd! Dean tries to crawl to the ropes with the STF applied. HE GETS THE ROPES!!!!
