Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling issued the following today:

Global Force Wrestling brings sizzle to hot summer nights at a ballpark near you

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – You might be able to buy peanuts and Cracker Jacks, and there’s sure to be a crowd. But this will be a whole new ball game.

The historic first Global Force Wrestling show will be held on Friday night, June 12 at The Ballpark at Jackson in Jackson, Tennessee. as part of GFW’s “MiLB Grand Slam Tour.” The tour will feature stops from Florida to California and several points in between.

It’s a grassroots approach building toward the first GFW broadcast event on Friday, July 24 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Minor-league parks operated by both private ownership and municipalities have agreed to play host to Global Force Wrestling shows when their baseball-playing tenants are out of town. It’s an easy win for the parks, which gain another great source for revenue. For GFW it’s a chance to build momentum, show off its roster and deliver on its mission statement to be the most fan interactive brand in sports entertainment.

“These ballparks are the center of attention in the summer in most of these cities, and we’re eager to get out there and mix with our fans and show them what the GFW brand is all about,” said Jeff Jarrett, Global Force Wrestling founder and CEO.

The stars of GFW will be appearing in such cities as Knoxville, Tennessee, Richmond, Virginia, and Clinton, Iowa. Dates for the summer ballpark tour are available on globalforcewrestling.com, and more will be added in the coming weeks.

“Global Force Wrestling presented us with a great plan, one that will be beneficial to us and all ballparks, teams and cities as well as to their burgeoning brand,” said Todd “Parney” Parnell, vice president and chief operating officer of the Richmond (Va.) Flying Squirrels. “We know GFW will generate a lot of interest and excitement, not only the night of the show but for weeks in advance.”

Atlanta Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski is excited about the alliance of his profession and his pastime.

“Wrestling and baseball make a great tag team,” said Pierzynski, a wrestling aficionado. “And I’m thrilled to see so many minor-league parks, some of which I’ve played in, jump on board.”

Global Force Wrestling will roll out its talent roster in the next couple of weeks. It’s a lineup filled with speed and power, righties and lefties, starters and closers, sure to provide thrills at every ballpark.

Randy Orton Berates Fans At Airport, Possible Change To Extreme Rules Match?

0

– There was an incident between the WWE crew and fans waiting at the airport in Albany, New York last night, according to PWInsider. When the crew arrived at the airport for RAW, a large group of fans was reportedly waiting to get photos and autographs. Randy Orton apparently “berated” the fans for bothering the talents after a long flight and long European tour.

– WWE may be announcing Paige’s replacement for her WWE Divas Title match with Nikki Bella at Extreme Rules on RAW tonight, expected to be Naomi. They updated their match preview a few days ago with the following paragraph:

“If Paige is cleared to go, she will have the opportunity to settle her longstanding beef with Divas Champion Nikki, who, along with sister Brie, has ridiculed Paige for months. Additionally, Paige will have the chance to make history, as a title win against at Extreme Rules would make her a three-time Divas Champion — only the third in WWE history.”

Source: PWInsider

– We noted before that Paige was written off WWE TV to film WWE Studios’ Santa’s Little Helper movie and that Dean Ambrose will be replacing her at the Wizard World Las Vegas on April 25th. Some unhappy readers are reporting that they were unable to get refunds for Paige not being there and were told they could meet Ambrose or trade the Paige autograph tickets in for Roman Reigns autograph tickets.

– On a related note, it’s been reported that The Miz vs. Damien Sandow on tonight’s RAW will write Miz off TV so he can join Paige for filming of Santa’s Little Helper. For what it’s worth, PWInsider notes that tonight may still be the storyline exit for Miz but he’s still scheduled for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view and next week’s RAW and SmackDown, which could be a sign that tonight’s angle won’t be an immediate exit from TV.

– Tonight’s WWE RAW takes place from the Times Union Center in Albany, New York with the final hype for next Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

Confirmed for tonight’s show is a Tough Enough announcement from the returning Triple H plus The Miz vs. Damien Sandow with the winner retaining the use of the “Miz” likeness. Superstars advertised for tonight include Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Big Show, Roman Reigns, Kane Seth Rollins, Sheamus and Randy Orton.

WWE is focusing on the following points for tonight:

* What’s on Triple H’s mind?

* Is Roman Reigns ready to be the Last Man Standing?

* What’s next for Paige?

* Who will retain the “Miz” name?

* Is Seth Rollins afraid of losing his title at Extreme Rules?

Latest On Daniel Bryan’s Condition, Bryan Reportedly Did Not Suffer Concussion

Source: F4WOnline

As we first reported earlier this week, Daniel Bryan was sent home from the WWE European tour after last Tuesday’s SmackDown taping in London. WWE sent us a statement, noting that Bryan was pulled from the tour “as a precautionary measure.”

Dave Meltzer reported on F4WOnline.com last week that people on the tour said that Bryan suffered a concussion during his match with Sheamus on Smackdown a couple of weeks ago. Ever since that match, Bryan has only been working tag team matches even though he was booked for singles matches against Bad News Barrett on the tour.

Meltzer noted on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that even though he was told that Bryan suffered a concussion, WWE is saying that it is not the case. WWE is not saying what the issue is “other than that he’s banged up.”

Shawn Michaels Says He Wanted To Go To WCW, Talks About Why He Didn’t, Vince McMahon’s Reaction

0

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels appeared on this week’s Ross Report to promote his upcoming book, but spoke candidly about his wrestling career as well. One of the biggest topics that was tackled was Michaels and his near-jump to World Championship Wrestling.

“I thought about it, but there’s two things. I went to Vince and said ‘Let me go. I’m miserable here, I wanna go down and be with my buddies.’ He just said no. I’m under contract under WWE, so I couldn’t. But there was a time I wanna go,” Michaels told Ross.

Michaels also said that Vince McMahon told him to look at the bigger picture and examine how others were being used. He cited Michaels’ in-ring work as something he wouldn’t be able to employ as liberally in WCW as he did in WWE.

“He said ‘You’re a creative guy. Once you get past being angry and it comes to working, you want to do things your way. They won’t let you do that down there, and that’s going to kill you. They’ll (kill) the one thing about this business you enjoy.’ I think he had some validity there,” said Michaels.

Michaels said that as time went on, he agreed with McMahon’s statements.

WWE And ESPN Sued Over Unpaid Likeness Usage

Source: TMZ

TMZ broke the news today that Tommy Gilbert, acting on behalf of his son Eddie’s estate, and his younger son Doug Gilbert filed a lawsuit against both WWE and ESPN recently. Both brothers appear on the Global Wrestling Federation shows that air on ESPN Classic in the United States as well as in numerous matches throughout the libraries WWE owns, as well as in the WWE Encyclopedia coffee table book. WWE Network’s video on demand library includes various matches of both brothers, with some of Doug’s being in the Dark Patriot gimmick in ECW.

Essentially, the Gilberts are arguing they never gave permission for WWE or ESPN to use their likenesses and have not been compensated for it. To quote the complaint, which WrestlingInc obtained:

While they performed live, neither of the Gilberts signed contracts or gave permission to WWE or ESPN to use recordings of the Gilberts’ names or likenesses. The defendants have impermissibly and in violation of the Gilberts’ rights of privacy shown recordings of past wrestling matches that use and display the Gilberts’ names and likenesses. Additionally, Defendants have violated the Gilberts’ rights of privacy by using the Gilberts’ names and likenesses through other media. Neither Doug Gilbert nor Eddie Gilbert has received compensation for the Defendants’ use of the Gilberts’ names and likenesses. Accordingly, the Gilberts seek compensation and all other damages to which they are entitled based on Defendants violation of the Gilberts’ rights of privacy.

The Gilberts are not seeking to block use of the footage; instead, they just want to be paid the compensation they feel they’re due. Meanwhile, WWE made a statement to TMZ, and to quote their paraphrase of it:

The WWE believes it has full clearance. A rep tells TMZ … the org has purchased legal rights to use old footage from other wrestling groups — such as ECW and WCW — and as a result … it expects this lawsuit to be dismissed.

While the suit was filed just over a month ago, it looks like it didn’t break until now because it was filed in a local court not tracked by much media. This past week, WWE and ESPN filed a joint notice of removal to federal court, so it became much easier to find the records online if you were searching for WWE-related cases. In the notice of removal, WWE cites their success in similar lawsuits filed in the past by Ricky Steamboat and Doug Somers, while ESPN notes they prevailed in a 2013 lawsuit from Steve “Wild Thing” Ray (who appeared in Herb Abrams’ UWF shows that were rebroadcast on ESPN Classic).
