Champions
Heavyweight: Magnificent Don Muraco

PA State: Tommy Cairo
Tag: Super Destroyers

There was no 7-13 show aired.

The show opens with highlights of last week’s main event.

As usual we get Jay Sulli and Paul E. Dangerously with Tod Gordon to welcome us to the show. Gordon is very angry and again threatens fines and suspensions for anyone that comes out of the locker room when they aren’t supposed to. Paul E. is sitting on the apron talking on the phone when out of nowhere he starts shrieking in terror and runs away (it’s awesome). Terry Funk has returned to the ECW! Funk lets us know that tonight he gets a shot at the TV Champion “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka.

We get a replay of the Super Destroyer and Sal Bellomo promo from last week.

Paul E. is backstage with Hunter Q. Robbins III and Christopher Candido who has a broken arm. Robbins is very nervous about the match as his voice cracks as he talks. For some reason Candido has a tag belt with him while conducting his interview.

Tag Team Champions Super Destroyers (w/ “Wildman” Sal Bellomo) vs. Suicide Blondes (Hunter Q. Robbins III), ref Jim Molineaux
( obbins is handcuffed to Bellomo and if the Blondes lose they must leave town)
Richard Michaels and Jonathan Hotbody represent the Blondes for this match. Michaels and Destroyer 1 start off. Michaels sends Destroyer to the corner and then comes off the top rope with a splash for 2. They illegal switch behind the refs back as we go to commercial. Back from break and the Blondes are making another illegal switch. Michaels with a suplex and elbow drop. The Blondes work over the arm of Destroyer 1. Super D 2 finally gets the tag and he sends the Blondes both to the floor. Hotbody comes off the top but gets caught in the throat. Running powerslam has Hotbody down but the ref is outside the ring with Super D 1 and Michaels. Candido comes down to the ring and comes off the top rope with his cast to the back of D 2 and the Blondes regain the title. 8.01 of the match is shown.

“Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert and Paul E. Dangerously are hanging out at a walk up window of a pizza place. They make some inside jokes about Missy. Gilbert again trashes the Philly sports teams. Jay Sulli comes by and they make fun of him for being a drunk. Paul E. talks to a bunch of the employees and Gilbert tries the pizza. This was a pretty funny segment.

Paul E. is backstage with Rockin’ Rebel and Tony “The Hitman” Stetson. Rebel makes fun of Peaches being blind and says that Sandman isn’t man enough to do anything about it.

Rockin Rebel vs. Larry Winters, ref Jim Molineaux
Rebel comes to the ring with sunglasses and a cane pretending to be blind. After some chain wrestling and reversals Winters ends up with an arm bar. Rebel takes over and lands a side slam but pulls up on the cover. Rebel with an irish whip and drop kick and now steps on the throat of Winters. Rebel with the Mr. Perfect neck snap as Tony Stetson shows up at ringside. Winters makes a comeback with a hip toss and some corner punches. Rebel side steps Winters as he comes at him and throws him to the floor. Winters sunset flips back in the ring but Rebel kicks out. Winters gets a few 2 counts on pin attempts. The ref gets hit with a clothesline and goes down. Stetson throws the cane that Rebel was using into the ring but Winters intercepts it nails both Stetson and Rebel with it and gets the win at 5.06.

Paul E., Dark Patriot and Heavyweight Champion “Magnificent” Don Muraco are backstage. They talk about how they don’t want to wrestle anybody but want to fight, brawl and take people out.

TV Champion “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) vs. Terry Funk, ref Kevin Christian
Funk gets whipped into the corner and slammed a few times. Funk favors his lower back and we go to commercial about 3 minutes into the match. Back from break Snuka comes off the second rope with a headbutt to a standing Funk. Suplex by Snuka gets 2. Funk blocks a second attempt and gets a suplex of his own. Swinging neck breaker by Funk. Funk goes for the spinning toe hold but Snuka pokes him in the eyes. They trade off small packages and then Funk headbutts Snuka ten times. Snuka head butts the ref and more refs hit the ring. Funk double noggin knockers the refs with Snuka. A few wrestlers come to the ring to break it up as we get a bell at 8.13 shown. The Dangerous Alliance come to the ring and attack Funk. The Koloffs come out and attack the Dangerous Alliance. The rest of the locker room empties and a WILD brawl breaks. Tod Gordon who was at the commentary table for the match goes to ringside and gets on the mic screaming for the brawl to stop. He gets laid out when Sal Bellomo and Jonathan Hotbody crash into him.

My thoughts on the show…
These last few episodes have been really fun and are making me wonder if I should go back and watch Super Summer Sizzler again after this set of tapings to see if the additional advancement of the storylines will make that show any better. Another show worth checking out.

TV 1993-07-27 (Matches taped 1993-05-15 from ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA)

Champions
Heavyweight: Magnificent Don Muraco
TV: Superfly Jimmy Snuka

Tag: Suicide Blondes

We open with the brawl from last week.

Tod Gordon is at a press conference with some pro wrestling media. Godon announces UltraClash for September 18th. Abdullah the Butcher and Stan Hansen are on the card as well as JT Smith taking on the Dark Patriot in a scaffold match. Gordon suspends Rockin’ Rebel for 90 days with out pay based on what he did to Peaches and from when he ripped off the girls clothes at Super Summer Sizzler who we now learn is named Angel. Paul E. Dangerously and Freddie Gilbert have been fined for attacking Gordon. Gordon’s secretary interrupts the conference because Eddie Gilbert is outside and wants to talk to Gordon. Gordon kicks her out. Gordon is taking into consideration what to do with Sal Bellomo after last week because they have gotten hundreds of letters from fans saying it was an accident. The Suicide Blondes are being stripped of the titles because they don’t want to let three men defend the tag team titles. This confuses me because Richard Michaels and Jonathan Hotbody were the ones that won the match. Why strip them as opposed to just telling them that they are the only two that can defend the belts? The secretary comes back into the room because Gilbert won’t leave. Gordon talks about Gilbert walking around Philly and bothering people. Gilbert bursts into the meeting and argues with Gordon as we go to commercial.

Back from break and Eddie Gilbert is in the editing room and lets us know that he is the special host for todays show. He again runs down Gordon and the Philly sports teams.

Back from break and Gilbert is watching his match with Terry Funk from Super Summer Sizzler and he hypes the home video. Gilbert tells us we are going to see the adventures of the King Eddie Gilbert but instead we go to.

Terry Funk vs. Canadian Wolfman, ref Joe Dinoli
Heavyweight Champion “Magnificent” Don Muraco is on commentary with Jay Sulli for this match. They criss cross and Funk stops but Wolfman keeps running. Wolfman gets Funk in the corner and gives him some shoulders and eye rake. Funk fights back and slams Wolfman three times. He follows that up with a leg drop for 2. Spinning toe hold gets Funk the win in 3.13. Dark Patriot and TV Champions “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka show up so Funk bails. Hawk makes his return and gives Funk a chair. They chase off Patriot and Snuka. Hawk says he’s back after Eddie Gilbert tried to blind him. Funk calls Gilbert a runt.

Back to Gilbert and he’s mad that they went to the match instead of the adventurs of the King. So now we go to that.

Paul E. Dangerously is with Gilbert and a woman is trying to marry him to become his queen. They try to get a few guys to kiss Gilbert’s hand.

Sandman (w/ Peaches) vs. Tag Team Champion Jonathan Hotbody (w/ Hunter Q. Robbins III), ref Jim Molineaux
So Peaches only needed 2 weeks to recover from being blinded? I really hope they were smart enough to at least film this match before she was blinded and just aired it later. Hotbody has the tag title even though they have been stripped of it. Sandman with the early advantage and Hotbody goes to the floor to regroup with Robbins. Back in the ring Hotbody fights back and throws Sandman to the floor and hits an elbow drop off the apron to the floor. Hotbody with a sleeper but Sandman doesn’t go out from it. Sandman with a clothesline and he goes for a bodyslam but Hotbody slides behind and pushes Sandman for a roll up. Robbins gets on the apron and hits Sandman with his cane. Hotbody can’t complete the roll up but sits on the Sandman’s chest and goes for the pin. Sandman pulls his legs up and puts Hotbody in a sunset flip pin position and gets the victory at 4.04. Rockin’ Rebel and Tigra hit the ringside and rip off Peaches shirt.

Back to Gilbert who is on the phone talking to someone. Gilbert throws it to Ron Jaworski’s Eagle’s Nest Country Club from July 11, 1993. Gilbert was preparing to wrestling Glen Osbourne. Hunter Q. Robbins III was managing him that day. Robbins gets on the mic and lets the fans know that Gilbert can not wrestle do to an injury he sustained the previous day in a match with Hawk. Jim Molineaux says that Osbourne will win by forfeit. Gilbert sneaks up from behind and hits Osbourne with Robbins cane and covers for the win. Gilbert gets on the mic and calls out Ron Jaworski. Jaworski gets in the ring and shoves Gilbert to the mat. Gilbert and Robbins bail out of the ring as Jaworski celebrates with Sandman, JT Smith and Stevie Wonderful.

Back to Gilbert in the studio who is very upset about what was just shown. Jay Sulli shows up at the studio. Sulli is confused because Gordon called him and told him to show up at 3 pm instead of 1. Sulli ends the show by asking us to come back next week.

My thoughts on the show…
After a string of very solid shows this weeks episode falls short. Skip this one.
