Chris Jericho Cuts Profanity-Laced Promo On Naito For NJPW

0

Over the past couple months, Chris Jericho has attacked Tetsuya Naito twice from behind, first at New Year Dash and then at Wrestling Dontaku. Earlier today at NJPW BOTSJ (Night 4) IWGP Intercontinental Championship Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI defeated Tiger Mask and Toa Henare in a tag match. Afterwards, the lights went out and Chris Jericho popped up on the screen to cut a promo on his upcoming opponent at Dominion. Just a note, the video above is not safe for work.

“Naito, I read all of the things you’re saying about me,” Jericho said. “I know how you really feel and listen, you are one of the greatest performers in the world today. One of the biggest stars in NJPW, but to me you mean as much as this turtle.”

Jericho was outside and actually showed a turtle that he came across. He then continued on about taking Naito’s title away from him.

“Naito, I’m gonna f— you up! I’m going to take your Intercontinental Championship from you, not because you wanted it, you don’t want it, you’re too tranquilo. I’m not tranquilo,” Jericho scoffed. “I’m f—— crazy! I’m gonna show you just how crazy I can be at Dominion on June 9. I’ve been waiting for six months to get my hands on your stupid filthy head. Yeah, Los Ingobernables de Japon. Kiss my f—– ass!”

Naito had recently said in an interview he was, “superior” to Jericho, aside from name recognition, Jericho responded to that as well.

“You’re the best New Japan has to offer, but I’ve seen pieces of s— like you come and go, year after year, and guess what? Chris Jericho is still here,” Jericho continued. “The Alpha is still here. … I’m gonna make your famous Naito, when I beat your f—– ass at Dominion, take the Intercontinental Championship away from you, away from those filthy animals in Japan and take it back to the United States where it belongs. Be careful what you wish for junior because it’s going to come true. I’ll see you on June 9th at Dominion, f— face!”

The Event Center: WCW Slamboree 2000

Introduction:
Hello everyone and welcome back to the Event Center. Last time you saw us we were going over WWF No Mercy 1999. Well this time we are doing another show that not many people would even dare to do but we are going to ahead and do it anyways. We are going back to, what most, consider to be one of the worst time periods in wrestling history. We are going to the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. And we are going to three tiers of a cage and we are going to WCW Slamboree 2000. I’m not sure if I can’t wait to see how this goes or not but here we are so lets get to it.

Show Opening:

The show opens up with a recap of what happened from Thunder this past Wednesday. They show highlights of the battle royal and who gets the shot at the WCW title at the Great American Bash. They then cut to outside where a huge tour bus shows up and out comes the Millionaire’s club. They then cut to the dressing room of the New Blood where Bischoff says they started the war but we are going to finish it. They then cut to a video where they highlight the matches on the card. We get some pyro as we finally get into the arena. Lets get to the ring for the opening match.

Match 1: WCW Cruiserweight Title Match: Chris Candido (c) vs. The Artist

Candido and Tammy get to the ring first and before Candido’s opponent comes out, Tammy gets on the mic and cuts a promo. Tammy says this is Kansas City and they call it the show me state. Tammy says “how about I show you mine and then boys you can owe her one.” Tammy then takes off her fur coat and shows off a very skimpy trash. She looks terrible here. Looks like she is coked out of her mind and bloated. Unfortunate she couldn’t get out of her own way. The Artist’s music finally hits and heads toward the ring. Speaking of the entrance, we have the elevated entrance ramp and I always loved that. Felt like you could do a lot with the ramp lining up with the ring.

We start this match with a tie up and a few go behinds before the Artist gets a head lock. They are off to a fast start and both guys get near falls early with some unique action. Candido goes up and over and then charges at the Artist and he gets back dropped to the outside of the ring. He landed on the mat outside and basically did a headstand selling the hold. Tammy laid out a loud ass screech that sold the move.

Candido heads up to the top and comes down on the Artist on the outside but the Artist was able to block it a little bit. Both guys were laid out on the floor for a moment. Candido goes for a pile driver on the ramp but the Artist ends up back dropping him. They finally get back in the ring and continue the action. Candido lays in a brutal chop to the Artist. They exchange action until Candido throws him out of the ring through the middle rope. The Artist ends up suplexing Candido to the outside from the apron.

They get some back and forth action but the Artist ends up nailing Candido with a power bomb. Candido appeared to have sand bagged him so the Artist had to muscle him up so the power bomb wasn’t that great. Candido goes for a hurricanrana off the top rope but the Artist held on and Candido falls on his head. The Artist goes off the top trying to get a roll up but he totally misses but he ends up grabbing Candido and gets a 2 count. Candido slams the Artist by the ropes and he heads to the top but the Artist gets up and hits Candido with a samoan drop off the top rope.

Tammy gets on the apron and says that her leg is hurt so it distracts the ref. Paisley ends up on the walk way with Tammy and they stare each other down. Paisley grabs the hair of Tammy and throws her down. Tammy gets up and grabs the chair and tries to hit Paisley with it but she ducks out of the way and Tammy nails the Artist. Candido goes for the cover and gets a 2 but the bell rings as if the match is over but the ringing of the bell was pre-mature. Candido picks up the Artist and hits him with a pile driver. Candido follows that up with a diving head butt off the top rope and he goes for the cover and gets a 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall and still WCW Cruiserweight Champion…..Chris Candido!

After the match Paisley gets in the ring and goes after Tammy again. Paisley throws Tammy down and hits Candido with a low blow. Tammy tries to leave but the Artist stops her from leaving. The Artist and Paisley then disrobe Tammy and take her dress off. Classic WCW having her wear granny panties and a big ass bra. Nothing attractive about seeing her like that. Paisley and the Artist celebrate in the ring and the crowd could care less.

Recap:
This was a pretty entertaining match. Both guys worked a pretty fast pace and the action never stopped. There was some decent spots and they hit their mark. The women weren’t overly involved either until the end. It can get annoying when they interfere the whole match and take away from the guys in the ring. That wasn’t the case here and these guys put on a pretty good match for the time they are given. This was a solid start to the show if you ask me.

They head to the announce table where Tony, Scott, and Mark talk about the triple cage main event. Tony says this is the first time ever but they had similar matches at both Great American Bash 1988 and Uncensored 1996.

Match 2: WCW Hardcore Title Match: Terry Funk (c) vs. Norman Smiley/Ralphus

Before the match starts they show a video of all of the damage and punishment Terry Funk has endured recently. Funk is walking to the ring but he ends up going into the bath room looking for Norman Smiley. Theres a guy in a stall that looks like Norman but it’s not him and Norman ends up using a fire extinguisher on Funk and he gets the advantage of the match early. Norman throws Funk into the garage door and throws a trash can at him.

Theres some dude in catcher gear that starts nailing Funk with a trash can. Norman finds a chair and ends up decking Funk with it. This is just a brawl in the back. Norman throws trash cans, chairs, and tables on Funk. Really nothing fancy about this at all. Norman puts Funk into a trash can and he tries to nail him with a chair but Norman ends up falling on his ass and doesn’t even hit Funk. Funk throws Norman into Mean Genes interview area. Then the mystery guy starts throwing boxes and stuff at Funk and Funk ends up throwing chairs at the master opponent.

Norman is climbing up a ladder but Funk kicks him off and he goes crashing through the table. Funk ends up finding a block of wood and breaks it over the head of Norman. Norman ends up whipping Funk into carrying cases for the electric equipment. Funk gets a chair and nails Norman over the head with it. Funk then picks up Norman and slams him on to a trash can. The mystery guy is barely hitting Funk in the head with a trash can. This is nothing but garbage to be honest. Just the same crap over and over again.

Funk ends up grabbing the mystery partner and drags him out to the arena on to the ramp. Funk pulls the shirt over the mystery partner’s head and nails him in the back with the steel chair 2 times for good measure. Funk is just dragging this guy to the middle of the apron. Funk then decks the guy with a chair and his identity is exposed and it is Ralphus. Ralphus goes over the top rope and Funk grabs on to his trunks and exposes his ass to the crowd. Norman finally shows up and throws a ladder at Funk. Norman grabs a ladder and climbs to the second rope and just drops it on the head of Funk. We get a chair shot to the head to Funk. Norman then does the big wiggle on Funk. Funk is selling the wiggle like he is really getting rammed in the ass. What a hilarious spot that was.

Funk tries to hit Norman with a chair but Norman blocks it and gets nailed in the face with the chair. Ralphus then does the wiggle on Funk. Funk grabs the chair and decks Ralphus with it. Norman gets nailed with a chair for good measure. Ralphus gets up to his feet and gets nailed with a chair. Norman checks on Ralphus and Funk ends up rolling him up and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner and still WCW Hardcore Champion…..Terry Funk!

After the match Norman and Ralphus do the wigglier the ring. They get beat and they are celebrating as if they just won? What kind of dumb shit is that.

Recap:
This was a terrible hardcore match. Nothing but trash can spots and chair shots. Ralphus added nothing to the match and was just a waste of space. I hate the fact that they got beat but acted like it didn’t matter. No matter how scripted the outcome may be you should be upset if you lose or at least act like you care just a little bit. Basically, what Norman was saying is that he cares more about doing the big wiggle than he did winning a title. Doesn’t make much sense to me and it just solidified the garbage that was this match. Definitely would recommend skipping this match if you do happen to watch this show.

Backstage Interview: David Arquette

They go to the back where a limo shows up and David Arquette gets out. Okerlund says with his wife making a million dollars an episode, why didn’t he arrive with the Millionaire’s Club? David says that he has a million dollars on his own, he doesn’t need his wife’s money. He also says that DDP thinks he is not a sports entertainer but it’s whatever. Gene asks him what his thoughts are on the match tonight and David says that he is scared and not to let the smile fool ya.

Match 3: Curt Hennig vs. Shawn Stasiak

Stasiak starts the match with an arm drag on Hennig. They tie up a second time and Stasiak hip tosses him again. Hennig ends up getting control of the match and hits Stasiak with a hip toss and a body slam. This sends Stasiak out to the floor to regroup while Hennig climbs to the middle rope and the crowd goes wild for him. Stasiak gets in a long head lock until Hennig breaks free. Stasiak is trying to get quick pins with a cross body then a sunset flip but Hennig gets out at 2 on both of them.

Stasiak goes for a right and misses and Hennig lays in some rights and chops before Hennig takes the leg out from under Stasiak. They then cut the camera to the seats ringside where the Misfits in Action are sitting. The match between Hennig and Stasiak ends up outside where Stasiak gets control and rams Hennig head first into the announce table. He then chokes out Hennig with a camera cable. Stasiak throws Hennig back in and he comes off the top rope with a flying clothesline. Stasiak then throws Hennig to the outside. Hennig tries to slam Stasiak but his back gave out and Stasiak ends up throwing Hennig back into the ring.

Stasiak gets Hennig in a sleeper hold and leaves it in for a minute or two. Hennig gets out of the sleeper hold and tries to break free but Stasiak ends up pulling him down by his hair. Stasiak heads up to for a big cross body but Hennig moves out of the way and Stasiak misses. Hennig lays in the vicious chops and then a back drop. Hennig stays in control by laying in the right hands. Stasiak catches Hennig coming in and catapults him into the turnbuckle where Hennig hits the steel bar. Stasiak then gets Hennig in the Fisherman Suplex, aka the Hennig Plex, and gets the 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring. Your winner by way of pinfall….Shawn Stasiak!

Recap:
This match was decent at best. Hennig was well past his peak years and was slowed throughout the match. Stasiak actually looked pretty damn good. His moves off the top rope looked good and he was able to keep the match going. It’s kind of surprising to see him beat Hennig in the middle of the ring like that without anything questionable going on. Hennig basically did the job for Shawn Stasiak. It is also surprising to see a clean match like that during this time period. Usually you have 2-3 things going on but this was just a solid little match on the card. I’d check it out at least once.

They head to the locker room of the New Blood where Russo is touting the success of Shawn Stasiak. Steiner is working out with a rope and looking jacked per usual. Russo then grabs the arm of Steiner and tells him to lets make it two in a row and Scott tells Russo not to put his hands on him.

Match 4: WCW United States Title Match: Scott Steiner (c) vs. Captain Rection

Before the match gets started Morrus gets on the mic and says that he never wants to be known as Hugh Morrus again. He said that name was given to him by Eric Bischoff and it was done to make him look stupid. He said from here on out he wants you to call him by his real name, Hugh G Rection or Captain Rection for short. Yeah as if Hugh Morrus made you look completely stupid, what the hell do you think that name is going to do for you?

Steiner gets out of the ring and gets in the face of the fans and tells them they aint shit. Scott, was terrible in the ring at this point, but was just awesome all together. Steiner gets control early and is just laying in the chops and right hands. Steiner ends up going for a hip toss but Rection blocks it and levels Scott with a clothesline. Mark Madden “Captain Rection is working stiff in there, I can tell you that.” What an idiot this guy was/is. He’s terrible. Midajah and Shakira get on the apron to try and distract Rection. Scott gets in on the other side of the ring and nails Rection in the back with a clothesline.

Steiner goes for a suplex but Rection blocks it and hits Steiner with an atomic drop and then follows that up with a spinning wheel kick. Rection hits Steiner with a side slam and then climbs to the top rope and nails Steiner with an elbow drop. Rection goes up to the top again while the ref is distracted by Steiner. The girls knock Rection down and he gets tied up in the tree of woe. Steiner goes outside and grabs the neck of Rection. Steiner nails Rection with a clothesline then drops the elbow for a 2 count.

Steiner drives Rection into the corner and then dumps him with an exploder suplex. Steiner then drops down and gives about 10 push ups with ease. He makes it look so easy. Steiner then hits Rection with a belly to belly suplex. Steiner gets up and goes after the ref and he high tails it out of the ring. They are really getting over the fact that this guy is out of control and it works perfectly. Steiner gets Rection in a bear hug in the middle of the ring. Steiner gets tired of the bear hug so he just dumps Rection with an over head belly to belly. Steiner rolls out of the ring and gets in the face of some fans again.

Steiner goes charging into the corner and Rection gets the boot up that lays out Steiner. Rection then charges and hits Steiner with a big splash in the corner. He then follows that up with 1 more and tries for a third but Steiner runs out and drops Rection with a clothesline. Steiner picks up Rection and hits him with a double under hook suplex. Steiner gets Rection up in a tombstone type move but Rection reverses it and hits Steiner with a tombstone. Rection goes up to the top rope and goes for his moonsault but the girls get in his way to distract him enough for Steiner to be able to get out of the way. However, Rection hits Steiner in the head with his boots still. Steiner then gets Rection in the Steiner Recliner and the ref calls for the bell right away. Your winner by submission and still WCW United States Champion…..Scott Steiner!

After the match is over Steiner throws the ref out of the ring and then gets Rection back in the Steiner Recliner. R&B security come out and stop M.I.A from getting in to help. However, Booker T comes out of no where and fends off Steiner and saves Rection.

Recap:
This match was pretty solid as well. Steiner came to work tonight and you can tell with how well this match turned out. The suplexes during the match were just awesome and really highlighted the strength Steiner had. Rection did his part in the match and hit some nice moves as well. The interference by the ladies wasn’t bad either and again it wasn’t over done. The after the match stuff advanced the storyline between Steiner and Booker. So all in all everything was done well here and I can’t complain. Outside of the Hardcore Title match, this card has been pretty solid so far.

Backstage Interview: Kanyon

Gene asks Kanyon about turning his back on the New Blood and helping out his friend Diamond Dallas Page. Kanyon says he backs Page because he is more than a friend. Kanyon says he considers Page a brother and that blood is thicker than water. Kanyon said that Page taught him a long time ago you don’t get anywhere in this business by kissing ass but by busting your own. Kanyon is going to prove to everyone, including Mike Awesome, that no one is better than Kanyon.

Match 5: Mike Awesome vs. Kanyon

Before the match, they show a highlight video of Mike Awesome powerbombing a bunch of guys including Hulk Hogan from Nitro. The match starts off fast and furious with rights from Kanyon. Kanyon ends up nailing Awesome with a big time clothesline. Kanyon drives some shoulders into Awesome to keep control of the match early. Awesome drops Kanyon with an elbow to the face. Mike Awesome then hits the ropes and goes flying over the top rope with a suicide dive. A guy the size of Awesome shouldn’t be able to do something like that. What an awesome move.

They brawl on the outside for a bit as Awesome throws Kanyon into the steel steps. Awesome picks up Kanyon and tries to drive him head first into the steel post but Kanyon ends up pushing him chest first into the post. Awesome is laid across the post and Kanyon ends up hitting him with a baseball slide on the inside drive Awesome chest first into the post. Kanyon then hits a flip on Awesome off the apron to the outside. Awesome gets up to his feet and Kanyon is trying to pull him in but Awesome drops down and clothesline Kanyon over the top rope.

Awesome gets back in the ring and heads to the top rope and nails Kanyon with a big time clothesline. Awesome gets frustrated and ends up throwing Kanyon over the top rope. Awesome picks up a chair and drives it into the stomach of Kanyon. Awesome then nails Kanyon in the back with the chair as well. Awesome grabs a chair and rams into Kanyon and he goes over the guard rail as they brawl amongst the fans. Awesome grabs a camera cable and chokes out Kanyon with it.

Awesome gets Kanyon back in the ring and hits a sling slot splash from the apron for a 2 count. Kanyon goes for a surprise pin but Awesome kicks out and levels Kanyon with a clothesline. Awesome throws Kanyon back outside again. Awesome is having a good time outside because he has spent the majority of the match there. Awesome then grabs a chair and nails Kanyon in the back with it. Awesome climbs to the top rope and is about to drop with a chair but Kanyon shakes the rope and racks Awesome. Kanyon gets back on the ring and ends up hitting Awesome with a neck breaker off the top rope.

Kanyon hits a swinging neck breaker and nearly gets a 3 count out of it. Kanyon goes to the top and hits Awesome with a cross body but Awesome rolls through and ends up getting a 2 count on Kanyon. Kanyon picks Awesome up and tries a pile driver but Awesome hits him with a Alabama slam type move. That sounded brutal and I am surprised Kanyon didn’t get knocked out. Awesome then picks up Kanyon and hits him with a devastating power bomb. It looked like Awesome dropped Kanyon to early and Kanyon lands right on his neck. He looks lifeless here a little bit. That was brutal as well.

Awesome goes to the outside and lifts up the protected padding on the outside. Awesome nearly gets knocked onto the concrete himself but Instead of knocking Awesome off the apron, Awesome sling shots in and hits Kanyon with a shoulder block. Awesome attempts to hit Kanyon with a running power bomb to the outside on to the concrete but Kanyon drops down and attempts to hit Awesome with a fist but Awesome ducks and hits Kanyon with a release German suplex. Awesome drops off the entrance ramp and removes more padding on the floor to expose the concrete. Awesome then picks up Kanyon and is about to power bomb him to the concrete but the Wolfpack music hits and here comes KEVIN NASH!!!

The two guys brawl on the apron as Nash clotheslines Awesome into the ring. Nash is laying in the right hands to mike Awesome. Here come the New Blood and Nash is taking on all of them. We got Vampiro, Kidman, Douglas, and Candido. The Millionaire’s Club comes running out to help out Nash. R&B Security come out as well and the Millionaire’s Club take all of them out. The ref calls the match and this one ends in a no contest.

Recap:
This was a really good match up until the ending. To be honest though I’m not really mad at the ending. They were trying to develop both guys so you don’t want either one to do the job at this point. This also allows you to get the New Blood vs. Millionaire’s Club feud on to the PPV and you get the brawl. Some of the spots Kanyon took were ridiculous and looked painful as hell. The power bomb was sick as well as the Alabama slam that he took. All in all this was a pretty solid match all around. I would recommend checking it out just because of how awesome, no pun intended, Mike Awesome really was.

Match 6: The Total Package vs. Buff Bagwell

Before the match they show a highlight video showing the feud between Luger, Bagwell, and Russo. After the highlight video they go to the New Blood locker room where Russo is trying to get Liz to sit next to him because Russo says he has something for her. Vince tells her that she needs to go change and that he owns her because he has her contract. Russo then says wait til you see this as Elizabeth walks off.

They have a dick swinging contest to see who has the best body before they even get going. Buff gets the advantage early with punches and kicks to Luger. Buff stays on top of the action with a back elbow off the ropes. Buff goes for a suplex but Luger blocks it and ends up getting buff in a standing vertical suplex of his own. He follows that up with an inverted atomic drop times 2. Luger goes up top for the 10 punches but Buff pushes him off and Luger ends up hitting him with a clotheslines. Luger then dumps Buff to the outside of the ring.

Luger drops Buff over the guard rial and then slaps him across the face a few times. Luger then takes the chain of Buff and throws him back into the ring. Buff attacks Luger when he gets back into the ring and drops him across the top rope with a clothesline type move. Buff then hits a double arm DDT on Luger for the 2 count. Buff gets Luger in a head lock on the ground and uses the rope for some extra leverage. Luger breaks free and they end up running into each other head first. Buff bodyslams Luger then gets him in a camel clutch thats half assed at best.

Buff jumps up to drop on the back of Luger but Luger rolls over and hits Buff in the nuts. They cut to Russo in the back where he is calling for Liz to see this. Liz comes out of no where and pushes Russo down in the chair and nails him with the bat. Elizabeth comes out to the ring carrying a bat as Luger gets the advantage in the ring. Luger hits Buff with a couple of clotheslines and calls for the rack but Buff stops that. Liz gets in the ring and tries to hit Buff with the bat but Buff blocks it.

Buff steals the bat from Liz and nails Luger with it in the midsection. Buff follows that up with a swinging neck breaker. Buff signals for the Buff Block Buster but Liz gets on the steps and nails Buff in the back with the baseball bat. Luger then picks up Buff and gets him in the Torture Rack and Buff submits within 2-3 seconds. Your winner by submission…..The Total Package Lex Luger!

After the match Elizabeth and Luger embrace until Chuck Palumbo comes out of no where and attacks Luger with a work out bar. Buff and Chuck then work over Buff while Elizabeth looks on. Palumbo then gets Luger in the Torture Rack as Buff takes Elizabeth to the back with him.

Recap:
This was surprisingly half way decent. Buff controlled the match for the most part but it wasn’t that bad. It didn’t go long enough to where it can get terrible so thats a plus. Elizabeth interfering was well done and again wasn’t overdone. You expected something like that to happen once she broke free from Russo. The Palumbo debut after the match was well done as well. The commentators did their part in getting him over as a Lex Luger rip off and pointed out his gear. Just a pretty good angle at the end there. Theres nothing special about this match but it’s not as bad as most people probably expected it to be considering who was in it.

Backstage Interview: The Franchise Shane Douglas

Gene calls him Shane Douglas and he immediately stops him to correct him that he is the Franchise. Gene mentions the nearly decade of bad blood between Flair and Douglas. Douglas says it has been 7 long torturous years where he has had to listen to Flair’s bs. Douglas then spouts off Flair’s catch phrases and says they go on and on and on but it ends tonight. Douglas says he is damn sick and tired of it. Douglas tells Flair to look into his eyes, the window onto a mans soul, and tonight he is going to retire his ass once and for all. Douglas says when the dust settles Flair will know that he just got his ass Franchised!

Match 7: Ric Flair vs. Shane Douglas

Douglas gets to the ring and grabs the mic and cuts a promo right after he had a backstage interview. Guy sure did love to hear himself talk. “Cut the damn music.” Douglas tells the crowd they have the pleasure of watching Ric Flair go down to the greater wrestler. Douglas says that Flair will fall to the Franchise Shane Douglas and that the idiots in the crowd can’t do anything to stop it.

Ric Flair comes out in street clothes and grabs a mic himself. Flair tells the ref that he knows the drill when a World Champion walks down the aisle you hold the rope open for them and that Douglas knows nothing about that. Flair says that he and Harley Race did their best to preserve the sport of professional wrestling and that a dip shit like Douglas has nothing to say about it. Flair says it is going to be like 1981 and he is going to kick his ECW ass.

Well the action itself probably won’t top the two promos we just heard but we are about to find out. They finally lock up and Douglas gets the upper hand with a shoulder block. They tie up again and Douglas drives Flair into the corner and we get a clean break. Douglas hits Flair with a back elbow to the face and then hits him with a back body drop. Douglas climbs to the top rope and lays in the right hands from the middle rope. Douglas and Flair then trade chops to the chest.

Flair snaps Douglas over and the climbs to the top rope but Douglas ends up body slamming him off the top rope. Douglas then gets Flair in the figure four leg lock right in the middle of the ring. Such a dick move by Douglas but it is awesome. Flair gets to the ropes so Douglas breaks it and starts kicking Flair in the nuts 2-3 times. Flair gets back up and nails Douglas with a vicious chop. Flair then drops down and nails Douglas with a low blow as the ref gets “distracted” by something on the outside. Douglas falls to the outside and Flair goes out after him. Flair just lays in the chops to the chest of Douglas.

Flair whips Douglas into the guard rail. Flair then chops Douglas and he ends up laying down on the commentary table. Flair then lays in the right hands to a laid out Douglas. Flair throws Douglas head first into the ring post and then back into the ring. Douglas catches Flair coming into the ring and Douglas hits him with a suplex. Douglas gets the chain out of his boots, classic Shane Douglas here, and he nails Flair right in the head with the chain. Douglas picks up Flair and hits him with three straight suplexes and on the third one he holds him up with a delayed vertical suplex.

Flair gets up and they exchange right hands and chops. Flair ends up getting the advantage and he pulls him out of the corner and floors him with a nice right hand. Both guys get up again and here we go again with the exchange of chops and rights. Flair decks Douglas again and this time he drops a knee right into the nuts of Douglas. Flair picks up Douglas and bounces off the ropes and kicks Douglas right in the nuts again. Flair bounces off the ropes again and ends up hitting Douglas with a chop block. Flair starts to work over the leg and then he gets Douglas in the figure four leg lock. Out comes Buff Bagwell and he distracts the ref as “Russo” hits Flair in the back with a baseball bat. Douglas rolls Flair up and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall…..Shane Douglas!

After the match Douglas, Bagwell, and Russo attack Flair. Douglas pulls out his chain and wraps it out around his fist and nails Flair right in the nuts with it. Flair gets on the mic and says that Russo is going no where and that he gets his 5 minutes. “Russo” says no but Luger comes out and puts “Russo” into the ring. The real Russo comes down and nails Luger with the bat a few times. The guy in the Sting mask pulls out a statue of liberty souvenir and nails Flair over the head with it. The guy pulls off his mask and it is none other than David Flair! Flair has 5 minutes with Russo.

Russo and David are working over Flair as the Wolfpack music hits again and here comes Kevin Nash! Russo tries to hit Nash with a bat but Nash stops it and Nash goes for a power bomb but Daffney comes out of no where and hits Nash with a low blow. Flair and Nash are left laying as Russo, David Flair, and Daffney celebrate in the ring.

Recap:
After hearing all the years of Douglas calling out Flair, to finally see the match it was a disappointment. It was a day late and a dollar short as the old saying goes. If these two could have gotten it on around 94-95 it would have been amazing but in 2000? No thanks. The match itself wasn’t bad and there was some good action during it. Douglas doing the three amigo’s suplexes was pretty damn awesome. However, the ending was predictable and the stuff with David Flair and Daffney wasn’t very good either. Russo pushed David into Nash and it really made the move look awkward that Nash did to David. The post match stuff was the shock and awe that got old after it happens 6-7 times in a month. The post match takes away from the rest of the match and makes this not very good.

They show a highlight video on the feud between Sting and Vampiro.

Match 8: Sting vs. Vampiro

Before Sting can get to the ring Vampiro comes out after him. Sting nails him with the bat and then a clothesline. Sting then picks up Vampiro and hits him with a suplex on the entrance ramp. Sting then hits Vampiro with an atomic drop. Sting hits Vampiro with a right hand and he gets back into the ring as Sting climbs to the top rope and hits Vampiro with a missile drop kick off the top. Vampiro then goes to the outside of the ring as Sting goes up top and hits a cross body to the outside off the top rope.

They continue to brawl on the outside as Sting rams Vampiro head first into the commentary table. Sting then picks up Vampiro and drops him with a DDT on the outside. They get back in the ring and Vampiro hits Sting with a low blow to slow down the momentum of Sting. Vampiro then hits a brutal chop to Sting and follows that up with a clothesline off the top rope. Vampiro goes out and gets his lead pipe and he ends up nailing Sting in the chest with it. Vampiro continues to work over Sting with the lead pipe.

Vampiro hits Sting with a side kick and then he follows that up with two shots with the pipe to Sting. They go out on the entrance ramp and Vampiro slams Sting face first into the ramp. Vampiro hits a spin kick to the chest of Sting. That was pretty awesome looking. Vampiro ends up clothesline Sting back into the ring and he follows that up with a lead pipe shot to the back. Vampiro lifts Sting up to the top rope and he was going for a hurricanrana but Sting hits him with a low blow and ends up power bombing him off the middle rope. Sting then picks up the lead pipe and nails him 4-5 times with it.

Sting whips Vampiro into the corner and nails him with a Stinger Splash. Sting then picks up the lead pipe and does the Stinger splash again and nails him in the head with the pipe. Sting then picks up Vampiro and hits him with the Scorpion Death Drop and he follows that up with another Scorpion Death Drop. Sting goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall……Sting!

After the match Sting is walking back to the back but he sees Vampiro getting up to his feet in the ring so he turns around and heads back to the ring. Sting comes in and nails Vampiro with a lead pipe and lays him out again.

Recap:
This was a pretty good match. It was short but it was non stop action throughout. The lead pipe came into play a lot but it worked. Sting worked really well and it was awesome to see his high flying moves again. The missile drop kick at the start of the match was nice. Vampiro looked good and he showed off his kicking ability. The spinning kick on the entrance ramp was pretty damn awesome as well. We had a clean finish and no interference and thats a plus considering the last 2 matches had that stuff. All in all a pretty solid match here thats worth checking out at least once.

Backstage Interview: Diamond Dallas Page & David Arquette

Tenay tells David that this could be the end of his acting career tonight at Slamboree. David says he looks good but he’s scared. David said he is going to stick to the plan. DDP says that as long as David sticks tot he plan he will be just fine. DDP tells David to stay out of Jarrett’s way. DDP says if he will stay out of the way he will be fine. He tells him if people interfere then he just needs to get to the top and fend them off but not to grab the belt. DDP then asks him if he’s got it monkey and David says he doesn’t want the belt as they both walk off.

They show Nash walking around backstage looking for somebody. Appears he is looking for Vince Russo but he doesn’t find him.

Backstage Interview: Billy Kidman, Eric Bischoff, Torrie Wilson, & Kimberly

Tenay calls Hogan the immortal Hulk Hogan and Kidman says that he is begging Tenay to stop kissing his ass. Kidman says he has already proven that he is not immortal because he has beaten him 3 times already. Kidman says with Bischoff in pin stripes over there that he can’t lose. Bischoff says he looks good in stripes. Bischoff says he will call it right down the middle of Hogan’s yellow back. Bischoff says it will be a great night for Kidman and the New Blood.

Match 9: Hulk Hogan vs. Billy Kidman

Hogan comes to the ring with Horace in his corner. Kidman is stalling on the outside and Hogan goes out after him. Hogan gets back in the ring and Kidman lays in boots as Bischoff calls for the bell and we are off. Hogan misses a couple of back elbows and Kidman tries to go up and over but he messes it up then Hogan tries to gorilla press him and messes that up as well. Kidman eventually gets him in a roll up to save face but that was a terrible sequence of action there.

Kidman goes for a sunset flip but Hogan picks up Kidman by the throat and drops her on the top rope and racks him. Hogan follows that up with a clothesline that sends Kidman down the floor on the outside. Hogan grabs a steel chair and Bischoff tells him to put it away but Hogan doesn’t. He ends up picking up Kidman and just dropping him on top of the chair stomach first. That looked like it hurt a little bit. Kidman ends up hitting Hogan with a hurricanrana then a drop kick. Hogan goes to the outside and drags Kidman out with him. Hogan then throws Kidman into the guard rail. We are brawling outside again.

Hogan is going for a right but Kidman grabs a hold of Torrie. Kidman throws Torrie at Hogan then Kidman nails him with a right hand. Hogan gets control of the match and takes off his weight belt and he just lays into Kidman with it. Bischoff steals the belt from Hogan and Hogan confronts him for doing so. Bischoff then hands Kidman the belt and he starts laying it in to Hogan. Kidman struggles to get a hold on Kidman until Hogan eventually hip tosses Kidman over the top rope effortlessly. That was pretty damn awesome.

Hogan works him over outside for a moment then throws Kidman back into the ring. Hogan goes for a cover and Bischoff starts adjusting his shirt instead of counting the three. Hogan picks up Kidman and hits him with a suplex and again Bischoff didn’t count the pin. Hogan tries a couple of elbows and Kidman rolls out of the way on all of them. They end up outside one more time as Hogan ends up throwing Kidman over the announce table. Kidman are laying in shots to the back as Hogan begins to Hulk Hogan. He hits him with a couple of right hands and lays him out with the big boot. The crowd is going crazy right now for Hogan.

Hogan goes for the big leg drop and Bischoff ends up getting in the way and stops the leg drop. Hogan decks Bischoff and Hogan drops the big leg drop. Hogan then mounts Kidman and lays in the right hands but Bischoff gets in the ring with a chair but Hogan blocks it and nails Bischoff in the back with the chair. He then nails Kidman with the chair as well. The crowd is going insane for the guy. Hogan goes outside and gets a table and throws it in the ring. He grabs a second table and gets that one in the ring as well. Hogan gets both tables set up in the ring.

Hogan goes to put Bischoff through the table but Kidman nails him in the back and then directly in the head to Hogan. Kidman goes for the pin and kicks out at 2. Hogan is now busted open. Bischoff holds up Hogan as Kidman goes for a chair shot but Hogan kicks Kidman in the face then low blows Bischoff. HOGAN POWER BOMBS BISCHOFF THROUGH THE TABLE! Hogan goes out and gets a third table and sets it up in the ring. Hogan picks up the chair and is about to nail Kidman with it but Kidman hits him with a low blow that slows him down.

Kidman grabs the chair and nails Hogan with it. Kidman sets up the third table in the center of the ring. He lays Hogan on top of the table and Kidman goes for a splash but Hogan moves out of the way. Hogan goes for the cover and Horace gets in the ring and grabs the hand of Bischoff and counts the three count for Hogan. Your winner by way of pinfall…..Hulk Hogan!

Recap:
This was a somewhat good match here. They used a lot of weapons to hide the fact that theres no reason Hogan should be selling for a guy the size of Kidman. This feud never did make sense but they did their best tonight to make it believable and it turned into an enjoyable match. It is still insane just how over Hogan was because the crowd here just went insane for whatever Hogan did. He raised his right hand and they went crazy. Life would be so easy as a wrestler if everyone could get over like Hogan and do the work he did. Anyways, not a bad match here and one that’s worth checking out. So far, theres really one been one terrible match tonight and with only one to go I a surprised by that number.

They show Russo running out back with Elizabeth. They get in a tour bus but Luger was waiting for hi. Russo then steals a car from someone and gets the hell out of town as they show Nash, who was stalking Russo.

They show a highlight video of the feud between Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Jarrett, and David Arquette.

Backstage Interview: Jeff Jarrett

Okerlund says he can walk out tonight as a two time champion. Okerlund tells him it could be a handicap match. Jarrett says that Gene thinks he has everything figured out but he is still a geriatric slap ass….slap ass. Jarrett says as far as the cage goes he can’t wait to embarrass Page and that 150 pound turd Arquette. Jarret says tonight is going to be an old fashioned game of chutes and ladders and after tonight they are going to be flossing with Jarretts shoe laces. Jarrett tells him to choke on that as we head to Michael Buffer standing in the ring.

Match 10: Ready 2 Rumble Cage WCW World Title Match: David Arquette (c) vs. Diamond Dallas Page vs. Jeff Jarrett

Arquette takes off running and Jarrett goes after him but DDP ends up attacking Jarrett from behind to get this match going. They get back in the ring and Jarrett attacks DDP rolling in. Jarrett ends up laying DDP out with a DDT. Jarrett takes off after Arquette again but again DDP stops him with a clothesline. DDP then picks up Jarrett and hits him with a rock bottom type move. Arquette climbs to the top rope and goes for a splash on Jarrett but Jarrett moves out of the way. DDP goes out to the floor and throws Jarrett into the cage two times then he hits his head on the ladder on the way down. DDP tries to put the ladder into the ring but Jarrett hits it with a baseball slide right into DDP.

DDP ends up whipping Jarrett into the cage right into David Arquette. Arquette is laid out. DDP is about to rack Jarrett by pulling him into the ring post but Jarrett pulls DDP in head first by using his feet. Jarrett goes for a clothesline and ends up hitting Arquette instead of DDP because DDP moves out of the way. Page picks up Jarrett and rams him nut first into the post. DDP gets the ladder back in the ring and he setting it up so he can head to the second cage. Jarrett is busted open at this point and Page continues to throw him face first into the steel cage. DDP tries to exit to the second cage but Jarrett climbs up the ladder and hits DDP with a belly to back suplex off the ladder.

Jarrett tries to climb out of the cage but Page hits a sit down power bomb on Jarrett to lay him out. Page sets up the ladder and whips Jarrett into it twice and he goes for a third but Jarrett reverses it and throws Page into the ladder. Jarrett picks up the ladder and drops it on to Page. Jarrett goes out and gets a second ladder in to the ring. They go back and forth and try to get out of the cage but neither man succeeds. Page hangs on to the cage and kicks the ladder over where Jarret falls on to the entrance ramp and into the camera guy. DDP finally gets up the ladder and gets into the second cage of the three tier cage. This is the hardcore cage where all the weapons are stashed and awaiting the guys.

DDP gets the bolt cutters and cuts open the lock to open up the door. Jarrett takes a chair and lays DDP out with it as he leaves the second cage. Jarrett is climbing up to the third cage until DDP comes out and pulls him off the cage. They get back into the cage and Jarrett nails DDP with a plastic serving tray and it just shatters on impact. That sounded bad. Page rams DDP into the cage wall and it falls down and both guys are laid out on the top of the first cage. DDP grabs the table and sets it up in the middle of the cage. DDP picks up Jarrett and power slams him through the table.

Jarrett tries to climb up the cage but DDP nails him with a chair to knock him down. Both guys are brawling with lefts and rights. Arquette finally climbs up the ladder and heads up to the second tier of the cage. Arquette is going up to the third cage. Mike Awesome comes out of no where and attacks DDP who was about to DDT Jarrett on to a chair. Arquette is on top of the cage and near the belt. DDP hits a diamond cutter on Mike Awesome on top of the cage.

DDP and Jarrett are both climbing up to the cage and DDP gets up there first. Jarrett finally makes his way up and they are in the guitar room. Jarrett and DDP both go for a guitar shot and miss. Arquette gets handed a guitar by Page as Jarrett hit’s page with a low blow. DDP ends up slamming the door on Jarretts face and both guys are laid out. Jarrett grabs a ladder and heads up to the top of the cage. DDP is on the other side of the cage and Arquette nails him with a guitar. Jarrett hits him with a guitar of his own and Jarret ends up grabbing the belt to win the belt. Your winner of the Ready 2 Rumble cage match and new WCW World Heavyweight Champion…..Jeff Jarrett!!

After the match is over Mike Awesome gets up and starts working over DDP again. Awesome picks up DDP and is about to power bomb him but Kanyon makes the save. Awesome then grabs Kanyon and launches him off the top of the cage. Kanyon is laid out as Awesome climbs up to celebrate with Jarrett as the show goes off the air.

Recap:
This was a pretty entertaining match here. The action was non stop and some of the spots were good. Getting up to the second tier of the cage made the guys limited but they did their best with what they had. The table spot was pretty sweet as well. The finish was surprising I guess but when you do the swerve earlier in the show as well as 2-3 times a week on Nitro it kind of loses it appeal. Thats really the only thing that sucked about the finish. Mike Awesome launching Kanyon off the cage is one of the more memorable moments in wrestling and one that everyone has seen at least once. What a crazy ass bump to take here. All in all a pretty solid ending to a pretty good show.

Show Recap:
Most people, and rightfully so, trash WCW 2000 for what it was. I’m not here to tell you that they are all wrong and that this was actually a good part of the show. However, going back and rewatching some of the things that took part during this period isn’t all that bad. This show is one of the things that is actually decent about this period. Most of the matches had clean endings and none of the outside interference shenanigans that Russo is known for. The only bad match on this card was the hardcore title match between Norman Smiley and Funk. They just did the same stupid stuff over and over for 10 minutes and called it a night. The Ralphus stuff wasn’t funny at all and it was just an overall brutal match.

The rest of the card delivered and the crowd was awesome throughout. This isn’t a classic PPV by any means but it’s definitely worth checking out at least once. I almost guarantee that you will find at least one match that you will enjoy.

Well that about does it for this edition of the CrazyMax Event Center. I hope you enjoyed our trip down the debacle that is known as WCW 2000. This won’t be the last time that we take this trip but it will be for a little while. Anyways, thanks for visiting the site and thanks for reading the one and only CrazyMax Event Center!

It’s the Retro Rasslin’ Review, FEATURING ANDRE THE GIANT!

WWWF ALL-STAR WRESTLING 09-09-78

All-Star Wrestling is taped from the Fieldhouse in Hamburg, Pennsylvania.
Taping date is August 30, 1978.  Your announcer is Vince McMahon

MATCH #1: “IRON GREEK” SPIROS ARION (w/FRED BLASSIE) VS. FRANKIE WILLIAMS

Arion hooks Frankie in a cravate style chinlock and works the hold for seemingly ever. He manages to find variations of ways to use the hold, but make no mistake it’s lazy as hell. Arion even finds a way to lay down with the hold applied. I’ll give him this much, if you got points for innovative ways to be lazy then Arion scores high. Arion hits a hangman’s neckbreaker. Back to the cravate. Williams actually makes a comeback. Holy shit, Frankie Williams with a DROPKICK, I didn’t even know he was capable. Spiros cuts him off with a boot. Wow. Arion hooks Williams in a kneeling Hangman’s Noose submission hold but the referee eventually makes him break. I assume the ref felt it was a choke. Arion beings to make several covers but pulls Williams up at 2 each time. REALLY, you’re going to do that this far into the match? Ugh. Arion hits a backbreaker to finally end this after 7:32.

Winner is Spiros Arion

Notes: This match could have accomplished the same thing in 3 or 4 minutes tops, but they had to eat up time to last the duration of the segment. Some of these guys just didn’t even care or try. Clearly the promoters didn’t care enough to question their “work rate”. If you want to see Frankie Williams throw a dropkick, give this a whirl. Otherwise you can move along.

MATCH #2: DINO BRAVO VS. BARON MIKEL SCICLUNA

The Baron dominates the match early and often. An armbar, a chinlock, a stomp, lots of quality pulling tights and hair Baron maneuvers here. Scicluna controls the entire match until Bravo makes a comeback at the end. Dino nails a pair of dropkicks for the win in 5:28.

Winner is Dino Bravo

Notes: It was kind of Bravo to let Scicluna dominate the whole match since Dino was going over, but it made for a mundane match. Dino’s comeback consisted of a few punches and dropkicks, made Baron’s entire offense feel worthless in the end. I’ve seen worse, but this was no good.[spacer height=”20px”]

RINGSIDE INTERVIEW WITH DINO BRAVO

Vince McMahon chats with Bravo after his match. Dino wants everyone to know that there’s no such thing as an easy opponent and he takes nobody lightly. Bravo tells the young fans you have to expect pain to become a wrestler. You have to understand that pain will be involved. Vince finally gets to Dino’s physique. I knew that was coming. Vince has always been in awe of muscles. Bravo says he has to stay in great shape to remain competitive. Vince now claims Dino benches 550 pounds. Wow, it goes up 50 pounds with every match according to Vince.

Vince asks Dino about his personal life, if he hobbies. WTF? Dino says preparing to wrestle and workout is his hobby. I’d buy that given his obsession with roiding out. Dino says he waited a few years to come to the WWWF because he needed to be ready for the competition.

This was better than the last Dino interview, but I really don’t care for babyface promos unless they have a personality or conflict. Otherwise it just becomes this, a guy answering generic questions.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #3: ANDRE THE GIANT VS. JOSE ESTRADA & TONY RUSSO

Handicap style Andre match. Andre gets them both in the corner and rams them with his posterior. Estrada goes to the Giant’s eyes and the two heels try to attack Andre in the corner. Andre has other ideas though as he takes them both down to the mat and then throws Estrada into Russo. Andre with some kneelifts and Estrada takes some great bumps for him. The heels double team Andre to some success as they get the Giant into the corner.Andre fights his way out fairly quickly. GIANT CHOP to Estrada. GIANT BOOT to Russo.

BUTT DROP on Russo. Jose climbs to the top rope and jumps off, but Andre catches him in the air and Press Slams Estrada onto the prone Russo. As Andre sits on top of the opponents for the pin, he reaches down and PINCHES ESTRADA’S ASS! HAH. Jose begins kicking when Andre pinches him. LOL. Match is over in 3:04.

Winner is Andre the Giant

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: Your typical fun Andre squash. A bit fast but it was good. Andre doing a little ribbing at the end with the goose on Estrada was also fun.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #4: CRUSHER BLACKWELL (w/THE GRAND WIZARD) VS. STEVE KING

Referee is Dick Woehrle. Blackwell scoops the Wizard up into his arms to help him over the top rope to the apron. I bet the Wiz loved that. Blackwell works a hammerlock and lands a big slam on King. I love Blackwell’s falling headbutt. Crusher works a wristlock and a hanging armbar over his shoulder. King starts to fight back, lays in some solid punches and a pair of dropkicks sends Blackwell up against the ropes. Crusher finally retaliates and knocks King silly. Blackwell chokes King until he falls through the ropes to the floor for a moment. Big backbreaker by Blackwell and a nasty clothesline. King is tossed back to the floor a second time. Blackwell scoops King off the apron and drives him across the ring with a powerslam. DAMN. This one is over in 5:50.

Winner is Crusher Blackwell

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: Blackwell is one of the more fun heels to watch as his squash matches are generally fairly entertaining. He was very impressive for a guy his stature.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #5: WWWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE YUKON LUMBERJACKS (w/LOU ALBANO) VS. LARRY ZBYSZKO & JIMMY RAY

This is non-title as Zbyszko is basically stuck with a jobber for this encounter. Larry is still rocking that stylish mustache. Hey, it was stylish for the time. Albano is outside pretending to jump rope again. Larry decides he’s going to start the match because he knows if Ray does Larry will never even get tagged in. Good wrestling by Larry early on as he takes Eric down to the mat. The two men trade top wristlocks. It winds up ending in a stalemate. Larry winds up in the heel corner but quickly fights hi way out and lands a jackknife pin on Eric for 2.

Jim Ray wants to tag in, in a bad way, but Zbyszko ignores him. Larry ignores him, not in a heel way, but more in a “I’m going to pretend I can’t see you so we don’t lose” sort of way. Larry has to finally acknowledge Jim Ray holding his hand out for a tag, Larry tells him to just give him a minute. LOL.

Pierre tags in and lands some shots on Zbyszko. Larry staggers to the corner and finally tags in Jim Ray. Pierre quickly takes over with a back elbow, a slam and a simple elbow drop ends it. LOL. Larry should have never tagged out. Time was 5:49.

Winners are the Lumberjacks

Notes: These “jobber with star” tag teams were always interesting. Typically you would see it more with the heels, but this worked too. Larry held his own the entire match until he tags in Ray, who quickly jobs after three simple moves. Poor Larry. But the match was okay for what it was.[spacer height=”20px”]

Closing Thoughts: The last 3 matches were good… for squashes. Nothing fancy on this episode, but we do get an old fashioned Andre handicap squash. And hey, NO LUKE GRAHAM! WOOT!

The Event Center: WWF No Mercy 1999

Introduction:
Hello and welcome back to the Event Center right here on CrazyMax. Per the usual here on the Event Center we are all over the place. Last few times we have done WCW Uncensored 1998, a Saturday Night Main Event from 2006, and we did SummerSlam 1988. Well this episode is on exception as we are heading back to the peak of the Attitude Era and we are going back to October of 1999. Thats right we are going to the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio to review WWF No Mercy 1999. Of course this show is memorable for the first ever tag team ladder match between the Hardy Boyz vs. Edge & Christian. The rest of the card is a little bit of a blur to me so lets get this show on the road to see what we have in store for us.

Show Opening:

The show opens with your typical WWF Attitude Era. They are going with a war theme here and showing the highlights of the sledgehammer usage between Hunter and Austin. They are driving home the main event which is what you would want to do at the start of the show. We get the pyro and techno dance music while Lawler and Ross welcome us to Cleveland. Lawler and Ross run through the card a little bit. He lets us know that the WWF title will be on the line in a falls count anywhere no holds barred match. All of a sudden we get the Godfather’s music as we get this thing started.

Match 1: The Godfather vs. Midian

The Godfather comes out by himself as the crowd starts to boo. Godfather then brings out the Ho’s and the crowd gives him a pop. Pretty funny stuff. While Godfather is dancing in the ring they show highlights of Viscera attacking the Godfather from Smackdown. Godfather hops on the mic and tells everyone that it’s time to hop aboard the ho train. “Roll a fatty for this pimp daddy.” Classic. Midian heads down to the ring with Viscera by his side.

Midian gets in the ring and gets on all fours. Godfather gets on all fours so Midian understands what he is saying. Godfather says since he doesn’t have any farm animals and that he doesn’t want any ho’s so he is just going to kick Midian’s ass. The bell finally rings and we got this thing going. We start off with a short tie up then we get some jaw jacking that leads to some lefts and rights between the two. Godfather gets control of the match with a nice looking power slam.

Godfather nails Midian with a nice looking side kick that keeps him in control of the match. Godfather is going for the Ho Train on Midian but Viscera goes after one of his Ho’s so he goes out after Viscera and this allows Midian to get control. Midian does some damage on the outside until he gets in the ring. Viscera attacks the Godfather by ramming his back to the apron. Midian brawls for a little bit on the Godfather to stay in control of the match. Midian does some stupid ass taunt and the crowd is basically dead. No reaction whats so ever.

Midian has control of the match and he starts working him over near the outside where Viscera is stationed. One of the Ho’s is laughing at the fact that the Godfather is getting his ass kicked. They had no idea what was going on. They finally get back in the ring and Godfather goes for another Ho Train but Midian gets the boot up and follows that up with a clothesline. Midian ends up getting a 2 count out of that. Midian is just garbage and the crowd gives two shits about him. Viscera attacking Godfather gets no heat either. Crowd is just waiting for something to happen because they don’t really care about either Midian or Viscera.

Midian goes for a shit elbow drop from the middle rope but Godfather gets out of the way and starts his comeback. We get some clotheslines and a body slam followed by a leg drop. Crowd not even popping for this. I think they just enjoy the ho’s and not much else. Godfather goes for a Vader splash type move from the middle rope but Midian get’s the knees up. They go outside and Viscera tries to nail the Godfather with a splash but Godfather gets out of the way and Viscera rams into the post. Godfather gets it back in the ring and he hits Midian with the Ho train and a cradle pin for the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall….The Godfather!

After the match the Ho’s get in the ring and dance with Tim White while the Godfather sits on the top rope.

Recap:
This opener was terrible. Midian is horrible and did absolutely nothing during this match. The crowd couldn’t care any less for a guy than they did for Midian. Godfather was over and they enjoyed his comeback but this match is a total shit fest and worth skipping. Don’t even bother.

Video package on what happened between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H on SmackDown.

Interview w/ Triple H from Sunday Night Heat

Triple H says he is on top of the world. Hunter asked if they saw what happened on Thursday night. Hunter said it was an Oscar winning performance. Hunter says the women were crying in the front row. He said the snake tried to bite him but he ripped it’s head off and threw it in the trash. Hunter said he opened the eyes of everyone including Vince McMahon. Hunter said Vince is an idiot and Austin was the biggest idiot because he felt bad for Hunter. Cole says that Hunter angered a lot of people from Smackdown.

Hunter says that he doesn’t get it and that Cole doesn’t have a clue at what he is doing. Hunter said he has made Austin the most pissed he has ever been in his life. Hunter says he humiliated Austin and put him beneath him in front of the world. Hunter is sure Austin is going to come out there full of himself and give him a rough time tonight but the reality is he is still going to walk out as the WWF Champion.

Backstage Interview: Ivory

Cole said whenever Ivory started her career did she think she would ever be defending the Women’s title vs. the Fabulous Moolah. Ivory says she doesn’t care about Moolah’s history. She said there is enough of Moolah’s history to fill an encyclopedia. Ivory says that Moolah and Mae have memory issues because they haven’t been able to find their way back to the home. Ivory says tonight she is going to show them that she is the one and only real Women’s champion.

Match 2: WWF Women’s Title Match: Ivory (c) vs. Fabulous Moolah

Before this match even gets going, Lawler hits us with the line of the night “Could you imagine losing your Women’s title to Moolah? I guess the only worse would be losing your virginity.” Hilarious. The bell rings and Ivory nails Moolah with a drop kick to the back. She goes for the quick pin but Moolah gets out at 2.

Ivory is feisty and ready to get this match over with early. However, Moolah keeps kicking out. Moolah snap mares Ivory over by her hair. This match is ran at a snails pace. Moolah hits Ivory with a knee to the chest then she climbs to the top and then steps down to the bottom rope and misses a splash on Ivory. Mae gets involved and Ivory takes care of both of them. Ivory goes for a suicide dive to Moolah on the outside and she doesn’t even make it out of the ring. What a terrible spot that was.

They brawl on the outside while Ivory hits a cross body off the apron on to Moolah. Mae keeps getting involved and Ivory keeps nailing her with right hands. Ivory grabs the Women’s title and is about to nail Moolah with it but Mae grabs the hair of Ivory. Ivory then takes the Women’s title and knocks Mae off the apron. Moolah then sneaks up from behind and gets Ivory in a roll up and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner and new WWF Women’s Champion……The Fabulous Moolah!

Recap:
What another shit fest this one was. Ivory was a ball of fire and was working pretty fast but I think she got a little bit ahead of herself at times. She didn’t slow down to make sure the older people in the match could keep up. Made for missed spots and bad spots all together. The match made no sense and the fact that Moolah went over made even less sense. Not sure what their plan was but Moolah and Mae had no business in a match like this and it’s just dumb on all levels. I would skip this shit fest as well.

They show Vince McMahon talking to Triple H from Sunday Night Heat. Vince tells Hunter that the match will be anything goes match and that to give them hell tonight. This infuriates Hunter as he stalks Vince as Vince leaves the locker room.

Match 3: New Age Outlaws vs. The Hollys

Before the Holly’s can even get into the ring the Outlaws attack them on the outside. Crash carrying out a scale that is taller than he is is always hilarious. Crash was awesome and it’s a shame he is no longer with us. The match starts with Road Dogg working over Crash in the corner. Meanwhile, Billy Gunn is still working over Hardcore on the outside.

Billy gets in the match and hits Crash with a body slam then an elbow. He quickly tags in the Road Dogg as they still work over Crash. Crash gets whipped into the ropes but he slides through the legs and its up getting decked with Road Dogg’s right hands. Hardcore gets in the ring and draws in Bad Ass but it ends up distracting the ref so Road Dogg only gets a 2 count. Crash ends up throwing Road Dogg to the outside to gain control of the match.

The Holly’s exchange tags and work over Road Dogg with boots and some suplexes. Hardcore does a delayed vertical and holds Road Dogg for over 15 seconds or so. That was pretty damn impressive. The Holly’s continue to work over Road Dogg with some rest holds and some cheating by using the ropes to gain some leverage. Hardcore hits Road Dogg with a slam and then he heads up to the top rope and misses a splash because the Road Dogg gets his boot up.

Both guys are laid out in the ring but Hardcore gets the tag first and Crash comes in and prevents Road Dogg from tagging in. They continue to work over Road Dogg. Tell me if you’ve heard this before. We get some basic ass move followed by a rest hold. Rinse wash and repeat. Road Dogg is running through the ropes and Hardcore ends up decking Road Dogg with a beautiful drop kick. He got extremely high and nailed him right in the face with it. That was freakin awesome.

Hardcore and Crash continue to exchange tags and continue to work over Road Dogg. Hardcore heads to the top rope again and again Road Dogg ends up stopping him from doing any damage off the top. This time Road Dogg quickly gets to his feet and ends up racking Hardcore on the top rope. He follows that up with a super plex. Both men are laid out and are going for the tag. Both guys get the tag and Billy Gunn finally gets back in the ring.

Billy Gunn comes in guns blazing, no pun intended, and nails the Holly’s with some lefts and rights. He ends up gorilla pressing both guys and hitting them both with a stinger splash in the corner. Billy Gunn hits Crash with a jack hammer and goes for the pin but gets a 2 count. Hardcore then throws a chair into the ring and Billy Gunn ends up hitting Crash with a Fameasser on to the chair causing the disqualification. Your winners by disqualification…..The Holly’s.

After the match Road Dogg ends up hitting the pump handle slam on Hardcore Holly on to the chair.

Recap:
This was your cookie cutter tag match. Nothing to great going on but a lot of kicks and punches. There was some decent action once Billy Gunn got into the ring. It was pretty impressive him picking up Crash then Hardcore with gorilla press slams in succession like that. Had to take a lot out of you. The Fameasser at the end of the match was pretty sweet looking. Best part of this whole match was the drop kick delivered by Hardcore Holly. Other than that really not much to see here. We are off to a blazing start with this PPV. All three matches so far have been skip worthy. Lets see if they can turn it around.

Match 4: WWF Intercontinental Title Good House Keeping Match: Jeff Jarrett (c) vs. Chyna

Before we get this match under way, I would like to take a moment to squash any of the rumors that may be out there regarding this match. Typical of the internet, one person tells a story and it becomes the truth, whether it’s true or not. The rumor going around is that Jeff Jarrett held up Vince for more money to do this match because his contract was up and he knew he was leaving for WCW shortly after this show. That’s simply not true. Basically, what Jeff Jarrett did was demand he receive the rest of the money that was owed to him and his payment for the Chyna match before he did the job to Chyna. He got what was rightfully his, based off of his contract, prior to him losing all of the leverage. It’s a smart business move and one any of us would hopefully take advantage of if in the same situation. I’m sure it pissed Vince off but business is business and Jarrett had all the cards on this night.

Before the match starts they show a highlight video between Jeff Jarrett and Chyna. Jeff Jarrett comes out to the ring carrying the kitchen sink. Miss Kitty coming to the ring wearing a skirt that doesn’t even cover her ass. Great outfit there. Chyna makes her way down to the ring with a broom and a trash can. This should get interesting pretty fast. It’s been a while since I’ve seen this match but I always remembered it being entertaining.

The match starts with Jeff trying to keep Chyna out of the ring but she ends up pulling him out of the ring and hitting him with some forearms. Chyna works Jeff over on the outside. The whole ringside area is covered with house keeping items like flour, tables, coffee pots, kitchen sinks, trash cans, brooms, and anything else you can think of.

Chyna ends up hitting Jeff with an atomic drop and a suplex. Chyna takes a garbage can and nails Jeff in the head with it twice. Chyna picks up a stick of salami and hit’s Jeff in the back with it. What kind of dumb shit is that. Chyna picks up a toilet seat and crowns Jeff with it. Chyna then stuffs a banana in Jarrett’s mouth and follows that up by putting whip cream in his hair. Chyna is dominating this match from the jump. Hitting Jarrett with pretty much anything and everything.

Chyna cleans off a table and rams Jeff’s head into it. Chyna lays Jarrett on top of the table and she goes for an elbow off the apron but Jarrett moves out of the way and Chyna goes crashing through the table. Jarrett picks up a trash can and nails China with it. We finally get back in the ring and Jeff rams the head of Chyna into an ironing board. Jeff then whips Chyna into the corner and she goes up and over to the outside of the ring. Jeff then throws milks, eggs, and flour into a pot. Jarrett puts some flour in Jarrett’s hand but Chyna throws it in the face of Jeff. Chyna then takes the pot full of crap and dumps it on the head of Miss Kitty.

Jarrett goes for the figure four on Chyna in the middle of the ring. Chyna gets in the ropes to break the hold. Jarrett gets some tongs from Kitty and he climbs to the second rope and he jumps off and ends up getting hit with a low blow. Chyna then takes the tongs and grabs Jarrett by the nuts with them. Chyna then takes two pies and slams them in the face of Jarrett. This match is crazy. Chyna picks up the kitchen sink and decks Jarrett in the face with it. She goes for the cover and gets a 2 count.

Chyna goes for a pedigree onto a cake but Jeff reverses it and sling shots Chyna into Teddy Long. Kitty hands the belt to Jeff and hits her with the IC title. The ref counts the three and Jarrett appears to have won the match. Teddy Long goes outside and tells Jarrett that the IC title is not a house hold item so we are going to restart the match. Once the match restarts Jarrett goes to put the figure four on Teddy Long but Chyna nails him with a guitar and goes for the cover and gets the 3 count. Your winner and new WWF Intercontinental Champion……Chyna!!!

After the match, when Chyna is leaving, Missy Kitty chases her down and leaves the ring with her.

Recap:
This was a pretty fun match if you ask me. Chyna held her own and fit right in with the guys. She was a pretty impressive performer and it’s a shame how her life turned out towards the end there. She couldn’t get out of her own way and its just a sad situation all around. Anyways, this match had all sorts of funny spots but it wasn’t really over done to the point where it was like get on with it. It was the right amount of time and we had the false finish, which for once, it wasn’t that bad. This isn’t an instant classic by any means but it’s not terrible either. This is definitely entertaining and worth checking out at least once. Also, The Kat was pretty damn hot. One of my favorites.

Match 5: The Rock vs. British Bulldog

They show a highlight video of the feud between The Rock and British Bulldog. As soon as the bell rings these two go at it with a tie up then some lefts and rights between the two. Rock gets the upper hand and clotheslines Bulldog up and over to the outside. They brawl on the outside and Bulldog ends up hitting the Rock with a chair shot to the head. Bulldog then rams the Rock into the steel steps. He tries to do it again but the Rock reverses it and then lays in some more right hands. They continue to fight on the outside until the Bulldog finally throws Rock back into the ring.

Bulldog gets control of the match and hits the Rock with a few forearm shots to the face until the Rock reverses it and lays in some right hands. The Rock then whips Bulldog into the corner and the Bulldog flips over and goes into he corner upside down. He then falls on the back of his neck and rolls over. What a brutal looking spot that was. Not sure what the hell the Bulldog was thinking but the spot looked pretty damn cool.

Rock ends up blocking a clothesline and hits Bulldog with a swinging neck breaker to keep control of the match. Bulldog then does the same to the Rock but this time he does a delayed vertical suplex on the Rock. Bulldog then gets the chin lock for an extended rest hold here. Rock finally gets out and ends up going for a samoan drop but Bulldog flips to fast and Rock can’t land it perfectly. Looked more like a back drop instead of a samoan drop. Bulldog ends up getting Rock tied up in the ropes and he goes for a running bit boot but the Rock breaks free and Bulldog gets jacked up in the ropes. Rock then nails Bulldog with a DDT to get a 2 count.

Bulldog picks up the Rock and nails him with his power slam but the Rock ends up getting the foot on the rope. That was a close one. Bulldog looks gassed and just not the same as he was even in 96. He goes for the power slam again and this time the Rock pushes Bulldog off into the corner and he ends up nailing the Bulldog with the Rock Bottom. We get the People’s Elbow as the crowd goes wild. The Rock goes for the pin and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall…..The Rock!

Recap:
There was nothing really to this match. Bulldog missed a couple of spots and looked sloppy here. The Rock looked pretty damn good but nothing special. The Bulldog just looked old and slow at this point and he was gassed early on. He didn’t look even the Bulldog from 96 and thats a shame. Bulldog is one of my favorites but his last run here in 99 was the complete shits and completely forgettable. Kind of like this match.

Interview w/ Terri from Sunday Night Heat

Lawler is interviewing Terri while she is climbing up the ladder. Lawler spends the majority of the interview trying to get Terri to climb the ladder so he can get a peak up her skirt. Classic WWF during this time period. Lawler says the winners get $100,000 and Terri. He says this is going to be great then he gets Terri to climb up the ladder to show him how the match will be won. Terri obliges and talks as she is walking up the ladder but Lawler is to busy looking up her skirt. Terri ask’s Lawler if he can see it and he says I can definitely see it. Terri then says she promises everyone they haven’t seen anything yet.

Match 6: Tag Team Ladder Match T.I.T.: Edge & Christian vs. New Brood

Again classic WWF here with the Terri Invitational Tournament, or T.I.T. Some of this stuff is so stupid but hilarious at the same time. Anyways, I can’t wait to watch this match again. I remember getting the PPV and really enjoying this match so let’s see if the memories are accurate and that this is a good match.

All four men start in the ring and throw lefts and rights. Edge and Christian end up hitting the Hardyz with a dual back body drop. E&C go after the ladders early but the Hardyz stop them from getting them. Christian whips Edge into the corner where he shoulder blocks Matt while Edge whips Christian into Jeff with a splash in the corner. Matt and Jeff get control and do some sequin double team. Gangrel gets a ladder and tries to bring it into the ring but the ref throws him out of the building. Meanwhile, Jeff charges at Edge and ends up getting back dropped over the top rope and he damn near does a 450 and lands right on his face. That was crazy.

Jeff picks up a ladder and Edge proceeds to drop kick the ladder into his face off of the apron. Christian finally gets a ladder in the ring where he heads up going for the money. Jeff ends up pulling him down and tries to climb but Edge pulls him down. Edge tries to climb up but Matt just tips him over. Christian drives a ladder into the gut of Jeff and traps him in the corner. Christian then runs up the ladder and drop kicks Jeff and lands right on the ladder. Edge goes for some poetry in motion but Matt moves out of the way and Edge crashes into the ladder. Action is really started to pick up once they got the ladder in the ring.

Jeff goes for the money but Christian ends up hitting him with a reverse DDT off the middle of the ladder. Matt climbs up the ladder but Edge ends up power bombing him off of the ladder. Jeff lays Edge across the ladder and goes off the top with a Senton Bomb. The Hardyz clothesline Christian with the ladder and he gets laid out on the mat. They set up the ladder in front of the turnbuckle and Jeff climbs to the top. He ends up propelling himself off of the ladder and nails Christian with an awesome leg drop. This is the one spot that always stuck out to me with this match and it is one of my favorite moves of all time. I remember loving when I got the PPV and I enjoy it every time I see it.

They then lay the ladder on top of Christian and Matt comes off the middle rope with a moonsault on to the ladder and Christian. Jeff is climbing up the ladder and Edge ends up throwing a ladder at him to knock him off the ladder. We have duel ladders in the ring now so business should pick up. Edge goes for the money and Matt throws a ladder at him to knock him off. The Hardyz go to clothesline Edge but he moves out of the way and Christian goes off the top rope and cross bodies the ladder right into both Hardy Boyz. Edge and Christian then ram the ladder into the nuts of Matt and then follow that up with a drop kick to each side of the ladder and ram them in the nuts of Matt again.

They then sandwich Jeff into the middle of the ladder and ram him with the ladder 10x as the fans count. Christian then gets splashed on to the ladder onto Jeff. Basically hurting himself to hurt Jeff. This match is just brutal. These guys definitely deserved a raise after this one. I’d be like no thanks to the majority of these spots. They set up dueling ladders in the middle of the ring. Edge and Jeff are climbing up the ladders and Edge ends up hitting a Downward Spiral off of the ladders. All four guys are laid out in the ring momentarily.

Edge goes up for the money but Matt ends up stopping him and hits him with a neck breaker off of the ladders. Christian and Jeff are climbing up the ladder on opposite sides and Christian ends up hip tossing him off of the ladder near the top. They show this awesome angle from the ceiling of the building. They call it the Wile E. Coyote shot and it looks pretty damn awesome. Edge and Christian set up a teeter totter type setup with the ladders and they go for a tower of doom type move but Matt makes the save. Matt and Christian are laying in the rights and lefts but Jeff ends up jumping off the top and catapults the ladder into the faces of Matt and Christian. No thanks on that spot.

Two ladders are set up in the middle of the ring again and this time all four guys are climbing up them. Both ladders get knocked down and all four guys are laid out again. Crowd gives them a great standing ovation. These guys are putting it all out there and making a statement. Great action all around here. Matt and Edge are climbing up one ladder while Jeff and Christian are climbing up the other. Edge knocks Matt off of one ladder but he ends up pushing over the other one. Christian goes crashing to the mat but Jeff ends up on the other ladder and he punches Edge off. Jeff is at the top of the ladder and he grabs the money and wins the match. Your winners of the match and getting the managerial services of Terri…..The Hardy Boyz!!!!

After the match Edge and Christian get a standing ovation in the ring. They then head to the back where the Hardy Boyz are celebrating with Terri by drinking some champaign. Matt tells Terri its all about us and her now.

Recap:
Theres really not much you can say about a match like that. Every spot was insane and as each one passed by they get crazier and crazier. They escalated the match throughout and it was just really well done. The crowd was awesome throughout the match and they just appreciated what both teams were putting themselves through. The standing ovation after all four men crashed to the mat again was pretty damn awesome. The crowds were so much better back then compared to now. Instead of trying to hijack the show, they just appreciated what they saw and clapped like they are supposed to. All in all this is truly a classic match and one that everyone should see. They set the bar for what a ladder match can be and laid the foundation for some of the best matches in wrestling as far as the initial TLC matches go. Kudos to all four men on this one. Truly an awesome match and definitely worth watching.

They show Mankind looking for the Rock from Sunday Night Heat. Mankind
runs into the Holly Brothers and he says that the Rock is in bathroom. Mankind walks into the rest room and says he smells what the Rock is cooking. Mankind wants the Rock to wear his tag belt out to the ring. Mankind then puts his book under the toilet stall and gives it to the guy in the stall. Mankind walks out to the hall and the Rock walks by on the phone. Mankind asks the Rock where his book is and the Rock has no idea where it is.

Rock tells Mankind to open up his book and sign it then shine it up real nice and shove it but Mankind stops him before he can finish. Mankind goes back into the bathroom to get his book and Val Venis attacks him from behind and leaves him laying.

In Ring Promo: The Rock

Finally The Rock has come back to……..Cleveland! The Rock says that he wants to challenge the winner of the match between Triple H and Steve Austin for the WWF Title. The great one doesn’t care who the champion is. The Rock says when the match is made and when the match is done the Rock will be standing in the middle of the ring as the new WWF Champion. The Rock says that his millions and millions of fans will be chanting his name….Rocky, Rocky, Rocky! Rock says when all of the dust is settled he will be the peoples champ, the peoples choice, and the WWF Champion if you smellllllllllll what the Rock……….is cookin!!!

The Rock heads to the back and when he is about to leave the stage, Triple H nails him with a sledge hammer. Triple H nails him 4-5 times with the sledge hammer and leaves the Rock laying.

Match 7: Mankind vs. Val Venis

When Val makes his way to the ring he is carrying Mankind’s book. Before Mankind heads out to the ring he checks on the Rock who is on a stretcher. We also get a shot of B.B. the EMT. Mankind finally heads out to the ring to get it on with Val Venis. Val Venis comes charging at Mankind before he can even get into the ring. They brawl on the outside for a few then they finally get back in the ring and get this match officially started.

Venis gets control of the match in the ring but he ends up getting hit with a boot to the stomach and a high knee. Mankind keeps control of the match and lays in some rapid fire right hands in the corner. Mankind then charges at Venis but he gets the boots up and slows down Mankind. Mankind eventually drives the knee into the head of Venis in the bottom of the turnbuckle. Foley drops a leg drop on the crotch of Val Venis. Instead of Mankind pulling out his own sock he starts digging at the trunks of Venis to get Rocko. He finally drags it out of the trunks of Val but Venis ends up hitting Mankind with a low blow to get control of the match.

Venis gets the match back on the outside. They brawl a little bit until they get a chair setup outside. Venis picks up Mankind and gets him in a belly to back suplex right on top of the chair and totally destroys the chair. Venis ends up going in the ring and back out and Mankind ends up getting him in the mandible claw. Venis gets out of it by throwing Mankind head first into the ring post. They get back in the ring and Venis tries to hit Mankind with a chair but Teddy Long stops him. Venis ends up using the chair anyways after he nails Mankind with a side Russian leg sweep on to the chair.

Mankind ends up going for a double arm DDT but Venis reverses it and mounts Mankind and lays in some right hands. Venis follows that up by ramming Mankind head first into the mat numerous times. Venis picks Mankind up and hits him with a body slam and then a knee right to the back of the head of Mankind. Venis then goes up to the top rope but Mankind gets back to his feet and trips Val up however Val catches himself and jumps down. Venis then whips Mankind into the corner and hits him with a clothesline right into a bulldog.

Venis goes up to the middle rope and hits Mankind with an elbow to the back of the head. Venis heads to the top and goes for the Money Shot but Mankind gets out of the way and Venis goes crashing to the match. Mankind gets up and nails Venis with a double arm DDT. Both guys are laid out and Mankind gets up first and gets out Socko. Val gets out Rocko. Mankind gets the Mandible Claw on Venis and Venis gets the Testicular Claw on Mankind. Both guys fall down on the mat and Val ended up falling on top of Mankind and the ref counts the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall…..Val Venis!

After the match Mankind gets up and starts beating up Val Venis again. Mankind steals Rocko from Val and he goes for a claw hold or something but Val rolls out of the ring to get the hell out of dodge. Thankfully this one is over.

Recap:
This match is kind of shitty to be honest. Val tried but thats about it. Mankind looked off and there really is nothing memorable about this match at all. All the spots to the head of Mankind are kind of dicey looking back knowing how Mankind’s health is now. The finish was cheesy and corny and didn’t really do anything for Val but it kept Foley strong. All in all a stinker here and I wouldn’t recommend waisting your time.

They head to the back where the Rock is still getting worked on by the doctors and EMTs.

Match 8: Four Corner Elimination Match: X-Pac vs. Kane vs. Bradshaw vs. Farooq

Kane and X-Pac get in the ring first and once the Acolytes hit the ring all four guys brawl. Bradshaw gets dumped to the outside by X-Pac while Farooq works over Kane. X-Pac goes up and over to the outside but Bradshaw catches him and he gets rammed into the post and then body slammed outside. Bradshaw and Farooq then work over Kane while X-Pac is laid out. The ref gets control and we got Kane and Bradshaw in the ring first. Bradshaw quickly tags in Farooq and he comes in to work Kane. Kane ends up decking Farooq with a kick to the back of the head.

Farooq gets up and quickly tags in X-Pac. Kane is holding back and he doesn’t want to fight him so X-Pac starts pushing him and punching him. X-Pac does his kicks in the corner but Kane comes out and levels him with a big time clothesline. Bradshaw tags himself into the ring and starts working over X-Pac. Pac quickly tags in Farooq so the Acolytes start working each other over. Farooq hits Bradshaw with a flying shoulder block before he goes in and tags in X-Pac. Farooq throws X-Pac into Bradshaw who nails him with a clothesline from hell. Bradshaw tags in Farooq who comes in and works over X-Pac.

X-Pac hits Farooq with an X-Factor but Farooq is able to get a tag before Pac could go for the cover. Bradshaw throws X-Pac into the corner and you can hear the buckle move. That sounded nasty. Bradshaw gets fed up and just throws X-Pac to the outside. Farooq goes out after him and rams Pac face first into the steps. X-Pac goes for a cross body but Bradshaw catches him. However, Kane gets in the ring and kicks Pac in the back so X-Pac can go for the cover on Bradshaw but he only gets a 2. Farooq gets the tag from Bradshaw and he comes in and gets Pac in a head lock.

Pac tries to get control but he ends up getting caught with a power slam by Farooq. Bradshaw gets tagged in and he ends up getting X-Pac into a bear hug. X-Pac breaks free again and this time Bradshaw decks him with a big boot as X-Pac bounces off the ropes. X-Pac goes for a spinning kick but Bradshaw catches him and puts him on the top rope. Bradshaw goes for a suplex off the top but X-Pac knocks him off. Bradshaw comes back in and gets hit with a tornado DDT. X-Pac crawls over and makes the tag to Kane. Kane goes up to the top and nails Bradshaw with a big clothesline. Kane is taking on both members of the Acolytes. Kane dumps Farooq to the outside while he chokeslams Bradshaw. Kane goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-3 on Bradshaw. Bradshaw is eliminated.

X-Pac quickly goes to the top rope and hits Kane with a spinning wheel kick and goes for the cover. X-Pac gets the 1-2-3 on Kane. Kane is eliminated. Farooq gets back in the ring and nails X-Pac with a clothesline to the back. Farooq throws X-Pac to the outside and he rams him into the time keepers table. Farooq picks up X-Pac and tries to hit him with a Dominator through the announce table but X-Pac breaks free and hits Farooq with a DDT on the outside. They get back in the ring and X-Pac goes for the Bronco Buster but Farooq gets up and levels X-Pac with a thunderous spine buster slam.

Farooq puts X-Pac on his back and climbs up to the middle rope. X-Pac falls off his back and Farooq lunges at him and X-Pac hits Farooq with the X-Factor out of mid air. X-Pac goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-3. Farooq is eliminated. Your winner of the elimination match…..X-Pac!

Recap:
This match was booked just to get the land of the giants storyline over for X-Pac. All four guys looked pretty damn good here. A lot of high impact spots and they were moving at a pretty fast rate. I guess it helps when you can tag in whoever and keep a fresh guy in for the majority of the match. The elimination aspect was nicely done as well. Finally we get another decent match on this card beside the ladder match. This was a nice match and it’s worth checking out at least once.

They show the Rock backstage getting worked on some more. This time they are taping up the ribs of the Rock.

Match 9: WWF Title Match Anything Goes: Triple H (c) vs. Steve Austin

Before the match starts they show a highlight package highlighting the feud between Triple H and Austin. Triple H comes out carrying his sledge hammer but Vince McMahon comes out and steals the sledge hammer from Hunter. Vince is talking shit and Triple H levels him with a right hand. Austin comes out of no where and nails him with a big time clothesline as this match is underway. They are brawling over at the electrical system and cameras right off the stage.

They stand at the entrance way exchanging lefts and rights back and forth they go. Austin jumps off a rail and hits Hunter with a clothesline and follows that up with a trash can shot to the head. Austin then whips Triple H Into a guard rail. Austin then picks up said rail and rams it right into Hunter. Austin and Triple H brawl amongst the people. You can’t even see what’s going on at this point. They are buried amongst the people. A fan hands Austin a crutch and he just nails Hunter with it 3-4 times. They can barely get through the crowd because they are just swarmed amongst them.

Austin takes a boom camera and spins it right into the face of Triple H. Austin then hits Hunter with a suplex on the entrance. Austin picks up Hunter and racks him on the railing and then levels him with a clothesline as they start working over amongst the fans. They haven’t even touched the ring yet and this is just a brawl. Austin goes for a piledriver on the outside but Triple H reverses it and gets back dropped over. Triple H goes for a Pedigree on the outside but Austin reverses it and ends up slingshotting Hunter over the railing right into the referee.

Finally, 11 minutes into the match, we get both guys in the ring. Triple H has the advantage of the match and he is working him over with a choke hold in the ring. Triple H picks up Austin but Austin ends up nailing him with the Stone Cold Stunner but there is no referee. Austin goes outside and drags the ref into the ring to try and get a 3 count but Hunter gets up to his feet before the ref can get into the ring. Austin goes for the Stunner again but Triple H pushes him off right into the ref again. Austin turns around and Hunter hits him with a Pedigree. Earl Hebner comes out of no where and starts the count but Austin gets out at 2.

Triple H gets in the face of Earl and pushes him but Earl pushes him right back. They do it a second time and Austin gets back to his feet and starts laying in the right hands. Austin hits Triple H with the Lou Thesz press and lays in some right hands. Austin ends up sending Triple H over the top rope and back to the outside. Austin drives Triple H head first into the announce table and Hunter goes flying over the table and to the floor behind the table. Triple H is now busted open. Not sure what caused that but he’s busted anyways. Whats a WWF PPV main event without blood during the attitude era. Austin takes JR’s head set and chokes the life out of Triple H with it.

Both guys get back in the ring and Austin lays in another right hand. He mounts Triple H and lays in the right hands again. I’m starting to sound like a broken record because that seems to be all this match is are just right hands. And we head outside again. Austin rams Hunter head first into the stairs and then whips him into the stairs again. Austin picks up a tv cable and chokes out Hunter again. Hunter ends up grabbing the bell and decking Austin in the head with the bell. Austin gets back to his feet and Triple H hits him with the bell again.

Triple H ends up picking up Austin and suplexes him on to the Spanish announce table. We are back in the ring again with Hunter in control of the match. He lays in some boots to Austin who is laid out in the corner. Austin gets back to his feet as they exchange lefts and rights. Triple H hits a back elbow and then goes for a knee drop but Austin moves out of the way. Triple H grabs the leg of Austin and wraps it around the steel ring post. Triple H continues to work over the left leg of Austin.

Triple H goes for a figure four but Austin kicks him face first into the corner. Triple H gets control back by kicking Austin in his injured knee. Triple H gets Austin in a leg lock. Austin kicks his way out of the leg lock but Triple H hits him with a knee buster to keep control of the match. And we get some more right hands. I’m shocked. Hunter goes outside and gets a steel chair. He goes to nail Austin with it in the back but Austin kicks him and starts laying in, you guessed it, more right hands. Austin tries to use the chair but Hunter kicks him in the stomach and then hits him with a clothesline.

Hunter goes up to the top rope, what the hell for? Austin gets to his feet and stops Hunter from doing anything and ends up hitting him with a suplex off the middle rope. Both guys struggle over the steel chair but Austin gets it and nails Hunter right in the head with the chair. Austin then wears out Hunter with the steel chair. This is brutal.

Triple H stops the multiple chair shots with a low blow to Austin. Both guys are laid out in the ring as the Rock heads to the ring with a sledge hammer. Rock goes to hit Triple H with the sledge hammer but Hunter gets out of the way and he ends up nailing Austin. Triple H levels the Rock with a Pedigree and then covers Austin for the 1-2-3. Your winner and still WWF Champion……Triple H!!!!!

After the match is over Austin nails Triple H in the back with a clothesline. Both guys brawl to the back. Austin is just laying in the right hands to Hunter and ramming him into the wall. There is a limo waiting for Triple H in the back and Chyna was waiting for him. They drive as Austin stares off pissed off as the show goes off the air.

Recap:
This was your typical Attitude Era WWF PPV main event. Not a lot of great wrestling but action for days. This was nothing more than punches and weapon shots for the most part. They got their patented moves in that they do in every much but not much else. The ending was pretty good with the Rock coming out and hitting Austin. I also liked the limo leaving and Chyna being there waiting for Hunter. It makes you wonder whats going to happen the following night on Raw. The match itself is nothing special and not really worth watching but if you enjoy the characters and enjoy the attitude era then you will enjoy this match.

Show Recap:
So that about does it for our trip through the peak of the Attitude Era and WWF in 1999. I remember getting this show on pay per view and really enjoying it back in 1999. I wore the tape out because there is, what I thought to be, a lot of good action at the time. Having not seen this show in years and actually watching in a review type setting, this show sucked. There is roughly 2 matches that are decent to good. Some aren’t terrible they aren’t worth watching either. If you are going to check out this show then I would check out the Jarrett vs. Chyna match because it’s a fun little match that’s not over done and it was a pretty good ending to a decent feud. Then I would check out the ladder match. Those four guys laid it all out there in the ring and it was a pleasure to watch it. It felt like every spot mattered and they got crazier and crazier as the match progressed.

The somewhat decent matches are the Rock and Bulldog as well as the elimination match. Bulldog just looked gassed early on in the match and he was missing spots. It was a little sloppy but it’s not horrible by any means. The elimination match is only good because it helped the land of giants storyline that they were doing with X-Pac. People really got behind that angle and this matched help advance that. The rest of the card is not worth watching and not worth your time. The main event is your typical main event so if you like this era and like those guys then watch it. You may get bored with it rather quickly though.

Well that does it for this episode of the Event Center. I hope you enjoyed the review of No Mercy 1999. I went into the show hoping for some good and got royally disappointed. Hopefully we do better next time around. I am not sure where we are going next but there are a lot of great things lined up between the Event Center and Television Rewind. So stay tuned for that. Thanks again for reading and I will catch you later next time, right here at the Event Center only on CrazyMax.

WWWF ALL-STAR WRESTLING 09-02-78

All-Star Wrestling is taped from the Fieldhouse in Hamburg, Pennsylvania.
Taping date is August 30, 1978.  Your announcer is Vince McMahon

MATCH #1: WOMEN’S CHAMPION THE FABULOUS MOOLAH VS. VICKI WILLIAMS

[spacer height=”20px”]Referee is Dick Woehrle. Moolah appears to be at her heaviest here. You can tell she had a hold on the women’s division, because there’s no other explanation why she is champion.  Moolah tries to attack Vicki to start but the barefoot Williams fights her off. The women trade some leg locks. Vince refers to Moolah as a “hefty gal” and claims she’s 140 pounds… MY ASS. 180 easily. Moolah tries some dirty tactics on Vicki and Williams winds up tying Moolah in the ropes upside down. Vicki stands on the ropes to tighten it on Moolah as Woehrle tries to help Moolah escape. Moolah finally breaks free and charges at Williams from behind, but Vicki moves and Molah goes flying out of the ring.

Back in the ring Vicky biels Moolah. Williams tries for a flying headscissors, but Moolah dumps her over the top to the floor. Nice bump by Vicki. Moolah repeatedly boots Vicki off the apron. Williams finally yanks Moolah out of the ring and they fight on the apron. Williams slams Moolah over the top rope back into the ring. Vicki climbs back inside but realizes she has been counted out in 5:26.

Winner is Moolah by count out

Notes: .That was actually a lot better than I had feared. It started slow with the leg locks, but it got going after that and neither lady slowed it down. Nothing special, but it beats a Luke Graham match any day.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #2: LUKE GRAHAM (w/THE GRAND WIZARD) VS. JIMMY RAY

Referee is Dick Kroll. First time I’ve noticed him. Oh for shit’s sake, couldn’t we go more than one show with Crazy Luke? Luke with his usual fake looking stuff. He lays Ray across the top rope and lays into him, sort of. Graham even half asses a hip toss. Poor Ray is trying to sell this offense, but it sucks. Choking galore. And here comes the taped thumb gimmick. Ray tries to fight back, but it just leads to more choking from Graham and another shot to the throat with the taped thumb. And after stalling for a minute he uses it again and this GARBAGE DUMP is over in 7:35.

Winner is Luke Graham

Notes: Seriously? He got 7:35? I would rather watch paint dry. This was ass. Sweaty ass.[spacer height=”20px”]

RINGSIDE INTERVIEW WITH THE GRAND WIZARD & LUKE GRAHAM

[spacer height=”20px”]Graham tells Vince McMahon that when all the tough guys get together they call Luke “BOSS”. Vince wants to discuss Graham’s use of the foreign object, which the Wiz & Graham deny. Wizard shows off a sign made by a fan that puts over the Grand Wizard. Heel fans in the 70’s, I love it. The poster board reads “Grand Wizard Will Guide The Golden Grahams To The Top”. Vince points out a bulge in the back of Graham’s tights, which is either the foreign object or he’s shit himself.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #3: DOMINIC DENUCCI VS. BARON MIKEL SCICLUNA

Oh God no. Not these two right after a Luke Graham match. This one is back and forth. The crowd pops whenever DeNucci makes a counter or hits a move. Scicluna holds his own throughout the match. Dominic sticks Baron’s hand between Dominic’s legs. WTF is that about? Gross. Some fun with Woehrle and Scicluna as Baron mocks the referee’s count and to fool DeNucci and Woehrle becomes angered. The back and forth continues as Baron cocks back and accidentally elbows Woehrle as the two men refuse to separate in the corner. Looks like Woehrle calls for a double DQ in 7:23.

Some more comedy after the match as DeNucci picks up Woehrle to aid Woehrle in trying to dropkick the Baron.

Result is a double DQ

Notes: These last two matches have ran too long for what they are. The stuff between Dick Woehrle and Scicluna was the only good stuff in the match. It’s not good when the highlight of the match is a comedy spot with the referee.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #4: “RUSSIAN BEAR” IVAN KOLOFF (w/LOU ALBANO) VS. FREDDIE MARZINO

[spacer height=”20px”]Referee is Dick Kroll. Koloff is a machine here, he’s all over Marzino, move after move, lots of aggression. Albano must have finished his fifth of vodka as he finally makes his way to ringside near the end of the match. Koloff comes off the top with the knee that he beat Bruno with for the title. That’s all she wrote in 1:38.

Winner is the Russian Bear

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: That’s how you do a squash. It only went 1:38, but Koloff just mauled Marzino and did it with authority. A quick, solid heel squash.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #5: “HIGH CHIEF” PETER MAIVIA & WWWF CHAMPION BOB BACKLUND (w/ARNOLD SKAALAND) VS. STAN “THE MAN” STASIAK & TONY RUSSO

[spacer height=”20px”]Referee is Dick Woehrle. Stasiak will start for his team, Maivia is all over Stasiak with takeovers, and Backlund tags in and cranks a headlock on Stasiak. Russo finally tags in and tries a dropdown on Maivia, but Peter drops down next to him and looks at Russo for a laugh from the crowd. Russo takes over on Backlund, but fails to notice Maivia has tagged in. When Russo finally realizes Peter is the legal man it leads to another laugh from the fans.

Okay, fun is over as Stasiak is back in and he takes over on the High Chief. Stan stomps Maivia out to the floor. Stasiak hammer son Maivia before tagging back to Russo. Stasiak holds Maivia for Russo, but Maivia moves and Russo winds up kicking Stasiak. Backlund tags in. The champion is all over Russo, but Bob winds up in the heel corner and Stasiak goes to Backlund’s throat. It allows Russo to get a couple shots in before Bob gets to his corner and tags in Maivia. Peter lights up Russo before Bob comes back in for the ATOMIC DROP and it’s over after 6:35.

Winners are Backlund and the High Chief

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: You can see how far Stasiak as fallen, being paired with an enhancement worker to do a job for the World Champ and Maivia. Not a whole lot to this match. Everybody had a few moments to shine. Backlund scores the win in a rare TV match with the World Champion. Big time babyfaces teaming together used to always draw interest, but the match itself wasn’t much.[spacer height=”20px”]

Closing Thoughts: When Moolah is in the best match on the show, you can get an idea of where this show ranks. And then there was Luke Graham, who is so bad he makes the Baron enjoyable. The tag team main event was okay, but nothing worth recommending. Always nice to get a match with the World Champion on TV, but this show didn’t accomplish much. I’ll take a pass as a whole.

Our next edition of the Retro Rasslin’ Review looks promising… We’ve got Crusher Blaskwell, The Lumberjacks, and even a handicap match featuring ANDRE THE GIANT!

MATCH #1: CRUSHER BLACKWELL (w/THE GRAND WIZARD) VS. CHARLIE BROWN

[spacer height=”20px”]Referee is Dick Woehrle. This is Blackwell’s return to All-Star Wrestling. Vince sells it like Blackwell has never worked here before, though he had a run in 1975 into 1976. Vince talks about things he has “heard” about Blackwell, even though he’s called a ton of his matches only 3 years prior. Blackwell scoops up the Wizard and sits him down gently on the apron to help him out of the ring. How nice. Blackwell sends Brown out of the ring for the fun of it. Action returns to the ring and Blackwell lands a nice falling headbutt. He follows that with a nice fist drop. Crusher with a backbreaker and then he toys with Brown for what feel like forever. BLACKWELL THROWS A DROPKICK!!! Nice. That woke Vince up. Awesome Kneedrop. BIG LEGDROP finally ends it… No way Blackwell pulled Charlie up at the count of 2. What a heel.

POWERSLAM to Brown, and that does the trick after 6:06.

Winner is Blackwell

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: Every big move that Blackwell hit was meaningful and downright impressive. He made even a kneedrop look awesome. The only problem I had with this match is you have a big monster, he should have finished Brown off in quicker fashion in his return (or debut as Vince would lead you to believe). There was lots of playing around and punches thrown to draw out the match and eat up some time. It brought the overall match down with all the downtime, but the moves were impressive enough to make up for some of that. Good stuff but still too long.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #2: DINO BRAVO VS. TONY RUSSO

[spacer height=”20px”]Russo is a top journeyman enhancement talent of the time period. Dino moves at a fast pace to start, but Russo grounds him with a side headlock. Dino finally has enough of this and fights back. DROPKICK BOUNCES OFF RUSSO’S HEAD. LMAO. That was awesome. Airplane Spin. This is over in 4:28.

We get a replay of the dropkick bouncing off Russo’s head. LOL. It didn’t get old.

Winner is Dino Bravo

Notes: Bravo had this thing where as soon as he was announced as the winner he would jump out of the ring immediately, never selling the wins. It seemed odd. There have been a couple instances where he leaves ringside before he’s even announced the winner. Nothing to see here. Move along, sir.[spacer height=”20px”]

RINGSIDE INTERVIEW WITH THE GRAND WIZARD & CRUSHER BLACKWELL

[spacer height=”20px”]The Wiz says he is holding the atomic bomb, meaning Blackwell. Crusher knows he’s the greatest RASSLER in the world today. Blackwell is looking forward to wrestling Bob Backlund. Blackwell wants to get the title from Backlund to get it back for the Grand Wizard. Crusher wants to injure Backlund and teach him a lesson for taking the belt from the Wiz. They talk about Blackwell’s strength and amazing agility. Blackwell compares his strength to Superman.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #3: WWWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE YUKON LUMBERJACKS (w/LOU ALBANO) VS. CARLOS CRUZ & STEVE KING

As the Lumberjacks dominate King early on, Albano keeps waving a necklace in front of the camera. I’m not sure if he’s trying to hypnotize the audience or what’s going on in the mind of Captain Lou. Cruz finally gets the tag and he hesitantly comes in against Eric. Solid kneelift from Eric. The Lumberjacks dominate Cruz for a while until King can tag back in. King comes in a house of fire. He dropkicks Eric twice, Eric bumps off both. A third dropkick sends Eric into the corner to tag in Pierre. Now Pierre eats a dropkick and begs off. Pierre finally cuts King off and slams him in the heel corner. Double teaming ensues by the champs.

King battles back, he lays some shots into Eric and tags back to Cruz. Carlos immediately misses a dropkick on Eric. Huge jumping elbow drop from Eric gets the win after 7:56.

Winners are the Lumberjacks

Notes: .I’ve said it before, no squash needs to go 8 minutes. This was on the long side, but pretty decent. Scott Irwin continues to impress for his size. I almost didn’t like Irwin bumping off those dropkicks, but it showed he was a team player AND he wasn’t lazy.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #4: THE SUPER DESTROYER (w/THE GRAND WIZARD) VS. MIKE MILTON

[spacer height=”20px”]The masked Super Destroyer here is actually Nikolai Volkoff. It’s kind of funny since we just saw the real Super D (Scott Irwin) wrestle in the previous match. Super Destroyer Volkoff dominates with generic offense. Milton tries to fight back and uses the top rope to hold onto while he tries to jump up for a dropkick, LOL. It only knocks Volkoff back a step or two. Super D is right back in control and sends Milton outside the ring. Lots of stomping ensues. Over the shoulder backbreaker wins this in 5:20.

Winner is Super D

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: This was my first time getting a look at this particular Super Destroyer. Before now I had only heard stories of his existence. I had heard rumors of it being Don Jardine (The Spoiler) or Killer Kowalski, but you can immediately tell it’s neither man because of the body type. Both men were much leaner than this particularly Super D. After a couple of offensive moves it became easy to tell this was in fact Nikolai. And true to most, if not all Volkoff matches, this sucked a D…. A SUPER.. D.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #5: HAYSTACKS CALHOUN, LARRY ZBYSZKO & TONY GAREA VS. BUTCHER VACHON, MOOSE MONROE & BARON MIKEL SCICLUNA

OH YES! Larry Zbyszko has grown his 70’s PORN MUSTACHE!!! Well, this is the 70’s so I guess it’s just your average porn mustache.

[spacer height=”20px”]Garea starts out with a backdrop on the Butcher and Vachon almost forgets to kick out. Well that would have been a quickie. Garea, the guy I least want to see from the face side, insists on wrestling every heel and never tags out before the heels take over on him. Scicluna gets control of Garea and the heels work him over. Garea comes fight back with a big slam on Vachon and we get a tag to Larry Land. Zbyszko tries his hand with Monroe. Moose uses a foreign object to jab away at Zbyszko, but Larry falls into the face corner and HOT TAG TO CALHOUN!

Haystacks drops Moose with a back elbow. Larry gives Moose a knee. And Garea is tagged back in and defeats the Moose with an abdominal stretch in 5:21

Winners are Haystacks, Garea & Zbyszko

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: I hate to say it, but Garea could have handled this match all on his own. Haystacks does one move, a back elbow that he basically walks through. Larry barely does anything. Another underwhelming appearance from Calhoun who is more of a prop in the corner to look at, at this point.[spacer height=”20px”]

Closing Thoughts: This feels like the first show without Luke Graham in a long time. For that, I am thankful. However, even without Graham this show wasn’t very good. It was cool to see the return of Blackwell to the show and a super rare appearance by the Super D (who didn’t last very long), but the matches here this week weren’t very good.

Thanks for reading this edition of the Retro Rasslin’ Review. Next time we’ll have a look at the ladies in action, Backlund and Maivia team up, plus a real live BEAR!!! Well, a Russian Bear anyway…

MATCH #1: “IRON GREEK” SPIROS ARION VS. FRANKIE WILLIAMS

No Fred Blassie this week with Arion. Williams is sporting a much needed haircut. Frankie tries his best to keep up with Arion as far as offense goes, but he has little luck keeping a hold applied. Arion with a nasty looking hangman’s neckbreaker but Williams somehow kicks out. Arion tries a second hangman’s neckbreaker BUT FRANKIE HOLDS ONTO THE POPES!!! HOLY BALLS! Frankie fires up…. the best he can. Frankie on the offense. Well I’ll be damned! And there it is, Arion doesn’t let that last too long. Spiros chokes Williams over the ropes. Spiros drops Frankie throat first across the top rope. Arion plants Frankie with a backbreaker and gets the pin after 5:30,

Winner is Spiros Arion

Notes: Spiros ditched the submission finisher this week for a simple backbreaker. I enjoyed the neckbreaker spots, but other than that this wasn’t anything. It wasn’t as bad as some of Arion’s squashes though.

MATCH #2: WWWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE YUKON LUMBERJACKS (w/LOU ALBANO) VS. JIMMY RAY & CARLOS CRUZ

The Lumberjacks double team and work over Cruz. Pierre gets to close to the wrong corner and Ray reaches in to land some shots. Ray tags in and gets Pierre on the mat. Pierre eventually escapes an armbar and tags in Eric. Man, Scott Irwin was a HOSS, by gawd. The Lumberjacks take turns applying the trapezius nerve hold. Yawn. Ray finally breaks free of Pierre and tags back to Cruz. Carlos has NO success in his endeavor.

Eric drops Cruz across the knee of Pierre. Good double team move. DOUBLE-DOUBLE AXE chop ends this in 7:30.

Winners are the Lumberjacks

Notes: Nothing bad here, a typical squash. A little longer than it needed to be. Now that they’ve been here a bit and won the titles the Lumberjacks seem to be losing a little of their aggressiveness and energy when on the offense. It kind of takes the flare out of their badass-ness.[spacer height=”20px”]

RINGSIDE INTERVIEW WITH DINO BRAVO

Vince McMahon stands by with Dino. Bravo has recently lost the WWWF tag team titles. Vince says that Dino is undefeated in singles however. Bravo is so softspoken here. Vince talks about Dino’s ability to mix up his strength and agility, he says Bravo is as agile as a cat. Boy would that change in less than 10 years. McMahon praises Dino benching over 500 pounds. Man I’d love to see that, maybe they could put that on a USA special and kill 30 minutes of time with stalling.

Bravo says he used to high jump and pole vault. He says he runs 6 or 7 miles a day and plays tennis. I’d love to see any of this. All I can do is picture Dino as a boulder of muscle in the late 80’s and incapable of doing anything that required the smallest form of athleticism.[spacer height=”20px”][spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #3: LUKE GRAHAM (w/THE GRAND WIZARD) VS. MIKE MILTON

Just shoot me now. Is this guy NOT on an episode? Slow, stalling, garbage. Vince says “Luke will lay all over you, if you let him”. No shit, that’s an understatement. Graham starts using his taped thumb gimmick. Wizard hides the foreign object when referee Wee Willie checks Graham for it. Luke gets it back and uses it some more. They repeat this shenanigan again. Luke drives the loaded thumb into the throat one final time before he drops a forearm or some crap and puts me out of my misery after 5:14.

Winner is Luke Graham

Notes: Graham somehow manages to get lazier and lazier. That felt longer than 5 minutes. At least it’s over. SCHLOCK.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #4: DINO BRAVO VS. BARON MIKEL SCICLUNA

Dino grabs a side headlock in the early going and works it on the Baron. When it’s Scicluna’s time to break he goes into a trapezius nerve hold on Bravo, and Baron holds it FOREVER. When Scicluna finally releases the hold the two men trade punches. Bravo wins that battle and gets a couple of 2 counts. Some confusion ensues before Bravo hits an Irish whip and a pair of dropkicks send the Baron to the floor. Referee Woehrle makes the fastest 10 count I’ve ever seen. Dick must have had some money on Bravo. Match went 7:28.

Winner is Dino Bravo by count out

Notes: I know they don’t like to give away finishes on TV, but I think Baron was far enough down the pecking order here to have done a job for Dino. It might have made up for the stagnant match. This match was not good in any way. Nice dropkicks from Dino though.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #5: VICTOR RIVERA VS. LOUIS LUGO

Victor Rivera IS BACK! We haven’t seen Victor in a WWWF ring in a couple of years. Rivera returns a heel as he beats down on poor Lugo. Louis tries to fight back with a dropkick, but Victor won’t even bump. Rivera pitches Lugo back outside the ring for a second time. Rivera follows Lugo out and beats him down on the floor. Vince ponders what has happened to Rivera to make him change his attitude so much. Victor finally lets Lugo back in the ring and a vertical suplex ends this after 3:12.

To prove he’s a heel, Rivera continues to stomp down Lugo post match and toss him out of the ring.

Winner is Victor Rivera

Notes: Cool to see Rivera in his heel return here before Blassie is exposed as the evil mastermind. The match itself was crap, but I just like the rarity of this because we see Rivera return with an attitude but we’re not exactly sure why…. yet.[spacer height=”20px”]

VINCE MCMAHON INTERVIEWS GORILLA MONSOON

[spacer height=”20px”]This appears to be a way to eat up some time. Vince wants to talk to Gorilla about Victor Rivera’s attitude change. Monsoon says it’s strange to see Victor go heel, and brings up Rivera’s recent run in California. Monsoon says Victor was beaten down badly and had his career almost ended in California, but Gorilla refuses to name the wrestlers involved. LOL.

McMahon brings up the rumor that Fred Blassie had something to do with Victor’s mood change. Gorilla has heard the rumors and says Blassie has ruined more careers than anyone, but he hopes Victor isn’t vulnerable enough to fall for Blassie’s antics. Vince mentions it happened with Spiros Arion. Monsoon is “behooved” if Rivera has indeed joined up with Blassie. Gorilla has lost a friend.[spacer height=”20px”]

Closing Thoughts: Lackluster show. It was great to finally hear from Gorilla this far into the reviews, but the matches were all sub par. Bravo’s promo went nowhere. Rivera’s return as a heel was a nice little boost to the territory with the Blassie story attached, but added nothing to the actual in-ring product.

MATCH #1: DINO BRAVO & JOHNNY RIVERA VS. JOSE ESTRADA & JOHNNY RODZ

Referee here is Dick Woehrle. Rivera starts for the baby face time and the heels just totally annihilate Rivera. Johnny usually gets in some ddecent offense, but the heel team just uses tons of quick tags and double teams to keep Rivera down. Rivera finally manages a tag to Dino, who comes in and immediately takes over, first dropping Estrada and then nailing Rodz with a nice dropkick.  The heels do manage to once again go back to double teaming Bravo, but Dino quickly tags back to Rivera. And once again Rivera is immediately dismantled with the quick tags and double team efforts in their corner. They begin to work the leg of Rivera with Estrada holding it while Rodz comes off the top repeatedly with a flying stomp. They pummel the leg for quite some time. Rivera sells the leg something bad. Johnny finally breaks free and hot tags to Dino Bravo. Dino comes in a house of fire on both heels. AIRPLANE SPIN on Estrada, AIRPLANE SPIN on Rodz. Bravo dumps Rodz on top of Estrada and pins them both in 4:57.

As soon as Bravo gets the win he rolls to the floor, picks up Johnny Rivera over his shoulder and carries him to the dressing room.

Winners are Bravo & Rivera

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: Fun match. The Rodz and Estrada team have always been underrated, really great heel work and team work to boot. They made a great team. If Rodz had been a few years younger I’d imagine he would have worked as the other Conquistador with Jose Estrada. Rivera sold the leg great, great team work by the heels, Bravo comes in and just OWNS them. My only peeve is Dino dumped Rodz on top of Estrada face down, and Rodz was technically the legal man. Not that it mattered I suppose. Bravo also immediately rolling out and scooping Rivera up and storming off to the back almost came off heelish, or at least made Rivera look like garbage. Maybe Dino was pissed about losing the tag titles. ;)[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #2: “RUSSIAN BEAR” IVAN KOLOFF (w/LOU ALBANO) VS. SPECIAL DELIVERY JONES

Albano shouts to Vince, letting him know that a front facelock is also called a front chancery. Meanwhile, Koloff works over Jones and pitches him to the floor where Lou can get in a cheap shot on SD. Koloff eventually follows Jones outside and rams SD into the ring post. HEEL! As SD climbs back inside he fights back with a headbutt but not much more as Koloff cuts him right back off. Lots of choking by Koloff as he drops SD across the top rope. A nice backbreaker by Koloff gets the 3 count in 4:54.

Winner is Ivan Koloff

[spacer height=”20px”]Lou Albano taunts SD Jones after the match and Jones knocks him off the apron. Koloff attacks Jones and sends him to the floor. Ivan slams SD into the wooden steps to teach him a lesson about going after the Captain.

Notes: The definition of a squash. Solid heel squash here with Koloff dominating Jones and using enough heel tactics to draw the necessary heat. Albano got his cheap shots in too. Made for a fine TV squash match.[spacer height=”20px”]

RINGSIDE INTERVIEW WITH LOU ALBANO & THE YUKON LUMBERJACKS

Vince McMahon is with Albano and the NEWWWWWW WWWF Tag Team Champions, The Yukon Lumberjacks. This episode was taped only two days after winning the titles from Bravo & DeNucci at MSG. Eric (Scott Irwin) speaks first but then tries to calm down Albano. Pierre speaks in his thick French Canadian accent. Albano finally takes over, he mentions he’s had 7 World Tag Team Champions. Albano starts naming random wrestlers he’s issuing tag team challenges to. Eric cuts Albano off and challenged names like Bob Windham (AKA Blackjack Mulligan). Well, that was random. Albano cuts Eric off and says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. WTF? Pierre starts ranting in French, Albano says Pierre is challenging anyone to a match for the titles.

Vince asks both Lumberjacks about their controversial win over the former champs. Eric denies any controversy. Pierre says the fans are happy the Lumberjacks won. Albano touts himself as the maker of World Champions and the guiding light of the team. Well that promo was all over the place.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #3: GEORGE “THE ANIMAL STEELE VS. DAVE DARROW

Steele takes Darrow down quickly and has some fun with him on the mat. Steele goes over and begins to gnaw at a turnbuckle pad and eat the stuffing. Vince explains the story Albano told on a previous episode, where Steele’s tongue is green because he is aroused by turnbuckle pads. Jesus. Steele rubs some stuffing in the eyes of Darrow and begins using the infamous white foreign object. Darrow falls to the outside. Steele never leaves the ring but grabs Darrow through the ropes and rams his head into the time keeper’s table. Darrow is then whipped out of the ring on the opposite side, and Steele again reaches through the ropes and rams Dave head first into the wood steps and the ring post. George stomps the arm of Darrow before clobbering him with the foreign object. George hides the object in his mouth as Dick Woehrle searches him for it. Flying Hammerlock ends this in 5:50.

And George goes back to groping the turnbuckle with stuffing and saliva dripping off his tongue. Beautiful.

Winner is George Steele

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: I don’t know if Steele was being lazy by not going outside the ring, or just trying to be different. Honestly, I loved it. It was different than everyone else by just reaching through the ropes and delivering offense. It made me take notice, which is always a good thing. I really enjoyed heel Steele in the 70’s. Another fun heel squash. This show has been solid TV so far, BUT THAT’S ALL ABOUT TO CHANGE with our next match…..[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #4: LUKE GRAHAM (w/THE GRAND WIZARD) VS. FRANKIE WILLIAMS

I don’t know if it’s me, but it seems like “Crazy” Luke Graham is on every episode. Why? Was it because he was so awful that Vincent the elder made him wrestle 10 times more to get his money’s worth out of Luke? Or was Vince Sr. just as cynical as his son and wanted to torture the fans? Luke grabs a hammerlock and a half nelson at the same time. Referee Wee Willie Webber calls for a break, though I have no idea why, and neither does Vince. Webber must have been thrown off by Graham actually applying a wrestling hold.

Graham applies a sleeper on the mat, but it’s so crappy that even Frankie Williams won’t pass out. Graham moves on to a head scissor. Anything to lay on the mat. Frankie goes for a backdrop but Graham kicks him and drops a…. I honestly don’t know WTF that was he just pretended to drop on Frankie. AWFUL.

Choking and biting by Graham. Frankie fights back, Graham takes a turnbuckle smash in slow motion. Graham “loads” his thumb and jams it into the throat of Williams to get the win after 6:02

Winner is Luke Graham

Notes: That did NOT need to go 6:00. Dreadful. I don’t know how Luke kept this job for so long. I’d go so far as to say I could see Luke being a pretty damn entertaining heel in his prime years, but those were long gone. The scary thing is, he was only 38 years old here.[spacer height=”20px”]

MATCH #5: WWWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE YUKON LUMBERJACKS (w/LOU ALBANO) VS. CHIEF JAY STRONGBOW & TONY GAREA

[spacer height=”20px”]This is non-title, even though Lou Albano just challenged anyone to a title match only 3 segments ago. So much for Garea planning a singles career. Eric and Pierre try to have their way with Garea early, slapping him in the face on breaks. Tony returns the favor, slapping Pierre in the face. Strongbow tags in and does a crisscross spot with Pierre, leading to Chief catching Pierre in his patented Sleeper Hold, but Eric breaks it up. Eric tags in and goes to work on Strongbow. The Lumberjacks begin double teaming Strongbow in the heel corner. Garea finally has enough and tries to make the save. but the Lumberjacks beat down Garea as well.

Finally, Strongbow is able to tag out to Tony, but Garea continues to take a beat down. Now Strongbow comes in for the save, but Pierre flings the Chief out over the top rope. Eric beats down Strongbow on the floor, and the Lumberjacks double team Garea in the ring, the referee isn’t even counting. All four men take it to the floor and big brawl ensues. Dick Woehrle counts both teams out after 6:37.

Strongbow takes a bar stool and bashes it over Pierre’s head, Eric’s head, Albano’s head. The crowd is standing and pushing towards the fight, trying to see more. The Lumberjacks are whipped into each other on the floor. Chief chokes Pierre with a camera wire. The faces are beating the crap out of the heels and the crowd is eating it up. Gorilla Monsoon is out to try and pull the faces off the Lumberjacs. IT’S PANDEMONIUM!

The result is a double DQ (I think it was a count out)

[spacer height=”20px”]Notes: Now that was fun TV. The early part of the match was bland, but when the Lumberjacks threw the rules out and refused to leave the ring with the double teaming business picked up. They were a great bruiser tag team as you can see here. The brawl on the floor was really refreshing, I haven’t seen an angle that hot on an episode yet I don’t believe. The fans really loved it. I would have been eating it up too. Hell, I’m eating it up now 40 years later. A wild brawl ends the show as we go off the air after the official announcement. Good stuff.[spacer height=”20px”]

Closing Thoughts: We kick off with 3 solid squashes and end with a fun 4 man brawl all over the floor. As shitty as the last episode was, this one was that good. One of the better episodes to date. And after the crap episode last time we needed a fresh pick-me-up and this episode did the trick for me. I recommend you checking out the heel team work from Rodz and Estrada, and I really recommend the main event for the fight at the end. Nice solid show.
