Dolph Ziggler Discusses His Motivation, Comedian Side, Kofi Kingston

0

Dolph Ziggler recently spoke with DemocratTribune.com to hype this Sunday’s WWE live event in Jonesboro, Arkansas. It appears like they used quotes from an older interview, since Dolph said that he is feuding with Kofi Kingston. Regardless, here are highlights from the interview:

Working with Kofi Kingston:

“Kofi Kingston and I have a good ongoing feud right now. We have been battling for the Intercontinental and the United State titles the last couple months. We have totally different styles but we somehow compliment each other in ring.”

His comedian side:

“I try out new material on my Twitter followers and it’s a lot of fun. I can bring a witty side to the WWE if needed and that can lead to a television spot out the ring or to a movie part, just more to bring attention to the WWE.”

What motivates him when he’s not feeling his best:

“There are days when you don’t feel good, you may be a little banged up or you’ve had 10 flight delays in the same day. If I was a fan sitting in the audience, I’d be disappointed if a top star didn’t wrestle. I want to give the fans a great show so I leave everything that may be bothering me in the dressing room, go out and give the show they want to see and then come back and deal with things that may have had be feeling down.”

WWE’s Original Plan for CM Punk Character At Chicago Raw

0

Credit goes to PWInsider.com

At one point there was a Bad News Barrett segment considered for this past Monday’s RAW from Chicago where Barrett would have informed fans that hometown star CM Punk wasn’t there.

WWE decided not to go with this angle because Vince McMahon still does not want to bury Punk publicly. Vince still hopes that Punk will get his head on straight and come back to WWE. Punk moves a lot of merchandise and WWE wants to have some kind of relationship with him because they’ve invested a lot of time and money into Punk and his licensing.

It’s said that Punk has some leverage now because of his relationship with Vince McMahon but as Triple H gains more power, things could change for Punk as far as how easy it is for him to come back when he wants.

Thanks to Brit for the following TNA Impact Wrestling spoilers from today’s tapings in London, England.

These will air on the March 6th episode of TNA Impact:

* Kazarian and Daniels come out as The British Bulldogs for an Xplosion match. Kaz is The Dynamite Kaz and Daniels is Daniels Boy Smith. Daniels vs. German wrestler Bad Bones is up for Xplosion. Daniels gets the win.

* The final Impact before Lockdown kicks off with Bobby Roode, Zema Ion and BroMans in the ring. Roode talks about Lockdown. Something has changed and this is now Team Dixie. Austin Aries comes out and talks about helping Roode beat MVP last week. Aries wants half of the 10% stake in TNA that Dixie Carter gave Roode to captain her team at Lockdown. MVP comes out with The Wolves and both sides face off in the ring. Dixie comes out and gets between the two groups. She has words with MVP. MVP reveals that Jeff Hardy is returning at Lockdown to be part of Team MVP. It will now be MVP, Hardy and The Wolves vs. Roode, Aries and BroMans. A brawl breaks out and we get a match.

* Austin Aries, Bobby Roode and Robbie E vs. MVP and The Wolves under elimination rules is up next. Robbie gets pinned first. Roode pins MVP, which will be twice in two weeks of TV. Apparently Aries and Eddie Edwards had a great exchange in this match. Edwards and Davey Richards were said to be the stars of the match. It came down to one or two of The Wolves and Roode. Our correspondent says the match ended in an odd way and more than half the crowd seemed distracted by security breaking up a big fight between two drunk guys in the crowd. Even the wrestlers stopped to watch the fight. There was also no explanation before the match about the elimination stipulation or the rules.

* Ethan Carter III is out to cut a promo on Kurt Angle and Lockdown. Ethan calls himself The American Icon. Angle comes out and they have words before Ethan escapes the ring. They finally brawl in and out of the ring and Ethan puts a submission on Kurt’s knees.

* Sam Shaw comes out and is met by “creepy bastard” chants. Mr. Anderson is out next with Eric Young. Shaw vs. EY ends in a disqualification when Anderson gets involved.

* Alpha Female, Lei’D Tapa and Gail Kim vs. Madison Rayne, Velvet Sky and ODB is up next. ODB was said to be over big time with the crowd. Chris Sabin was at ringside for Alpha and taunted Velvet during the match. Velvet ends up getting the win for her team.

* Gunner comes out for an in-ring promo but is interrupted by James Storm. They have words and Storm gets in a cheap shot. They brawl and that’s it.

* It’s announced they will be re-filming the elimination match from earlier, probably because of the confusion and the fans watching the fight in the crowd. They tape around 5 minutes of Bobby Roode vs. Davey Richards, which was the ending of the elimination match. Roode got the pin for his team.

* Samoa Joe and Magnus are out for the final segment. Lots more heel heat for Magnus here. Bully Ray ends up coming out and getting into it with Joe. The final Impact before Lockdown ends with Joe putting Bully through a table and leaving.

NXT Results for 3/6/14

NXT Tapings @ Full Sail University on 2/28/14. To air on 3/6/14 on the Network. Thanks to Zack Zimmerman for the following:

* Dark Match: The New Age Outlaws beat Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger. Decent match for what it was. The crowd was into the Outlaws. There’s some potential in the Jordan-Dillinger pairing.

NXT 3/6/14:

Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, and William Regal on commentary.

* NXT Champion Adrian Neville beat Camacho with the Red Arrow in a non-title match. Renee interviewed Neville in the ring and he said last night was indescribable. He said he’s not a prototype. He said he looks like an elf, comes from a place that nobody knows exists, and he has an accent that nobody can understand. He said that you can question all of those things about him, but nobody can question what he does in the ring and the NXT Title proves that. Good promo; he sounded composed and confident.

– Bo Dallas interrupted and said he always tells his Bo-lievers to be good sports, but last night was unfair because Neville didn’t pin him. He said he was cashing in his rematch soon and reclaiming the NXT Title.

* Charlotte (w/Sasha Banks) beat Emma with her summersault “cutter”. Charlotte feigned a leg injury and then hit her finish on a distracted Emma.

* Corey Graves beat Yoshi Tatsu by countout. Graves cut a promo on Sami Zayn before the match talking about how Zayn never won but the people still love him. Graves beat the hell out Tatsu after. Graves applied Lucky 13 until Sami Zayn made the save. Zayn said he didn’t know they had an issue, but now they do. He said he wanted a match with Graves tonight.

* Solomon Crowe beat Sylvester Lefort with his back slingshot splash. Fine debut for Crowe (a/k/a Sami Callihan). The crowd was really into him as there are plenty of smart fans here.

* Sami Zayn beat Corey Graves with a small package. Good match. (it’s rumored this may not air on the episode.

Wrestling News 3/6/14: Final 2014 HoF Inductees, WWE Already Raising Network Prices?, More

0

– According to a recent survey that has been sent out to fans, WWE is already contemplating raising the price of their Network to $11.99 per month. Among a number of different topics addressed in the survey, it was asked if fans would still subscribe to the WWE Network at $11.99 per month.

————————————————-

As seen on Monday’s RAW, Paul Bearer joins The Ultimate Warrior, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Amy “Lita” Dumas as the inductees in the 2014 class of the WWE Hall Of Fame. The two names that are being bandied about that have yet to be announced are Scott Hall and Mr. T.

In the case of Mr. T, there is a chance that he won’t be inducted simply as another addition to the celebrity wing of the Hall Of Fame, but instead a joint-induction that would include all of the WrestleMania I main event participants, which include Hulk Hogan, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff and “Cowboy” Bob Orton.

————————————————-

There was said to be some negative feelings towards WWE for failing to acknowledge the passing of Nelson Frazier Jr. (aka Mabel, Viscera and Big Daddy V) on television on either the February 21st edition of WWE SmackDown or the February 24th edition of WWE RAW. While WWE did eventually air an “In Memory Of” graphic on the February 28th edition of SmackDown, it was considered somewhat late, especially considering the fact that TNA acknowledged him on February 20th.

As previously reported, Cassandra Frazier, who is Nelson’s widow, was upset wit WWE, likely for failing to mention his name or acknowledge his passing in a timely fashion, but has since apologized, citing the stress of the week. “I lost my best friend and the only man I ever loved, and I was very angry,” said Cassandra. “Please forgive me and also to your fans, he was a good man, and he loved Vince, Stephanie and Triple H.”

————————————————-

– The WWE stock closed at $27.10 per share on Wednesday, making it the highest total since shortly after the company initially went public. Additionally, WWE broke a major barrier today, as the company’s market capitalization hit a reported $2.03 billion.

————————————————-

– The talent in WWE NXT were told at the most recent set of television tapings that the NXT brand would be pushed more significantly now that the WWE Network is up and running. The wrestlers were told that the company wants to get behind NXT and promote it as the pure wrestling product within WWE.

Additionally, NXT stars were told that while some would be called up to the main roster, with Emma and Alexander Rusev (along with Lana) being the most recent examples, it’s going to be a slow process for some, and that everyone should e patient. The mindset WWE is trying to establish is that with the Network, the stars of NXT will be getting plenty of added exposure without having to be called up and featured on the main roster.

————————————————-

– According to the North American Wrestling Rankings website, WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan received his 100th televised win in WWE when he defeated Kane on the live edition of WWE Main Event on the WWE Network on Tuesday night. They wrote: “When Daniel Bryan defeated Kane on the 3/4/14 episode of Main Event it was his 100th televised win! That makes him only the 13th wrestler to reach this milestone [since the NAWR began keeping records] behind only C.M. Punk, John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kane, Jeff Hardy, Kofi Kingston, Big Show, Mark Henry, Alberto Del Rio, The Miz, and Dolph Ziggler. Others knocking on the door to the century mark are Christian with 93 wins and Rey Mysterio with 92 wins as of 3/4/14.”

ROH will no longer be taping TV the day after their house shows in the same building. A decision was made within the last few weeks that Philadelphia would be the last show they do that at. The WrestleMania 30 weekend events may be the only exception to that rule for obvious reasons

Brooke was not on TNA’s recent UK tour and hasn’t wrestled a match since the November 7th Impact Wrestling. As of this writing, her profile remains on TNA’s website.

————————————————-

– For what it’s worth, it’s said within WWE that current plans have John Cena and Daniel Bryan being pushed as the #1 and #2 guys in the company after WrestleMania XXX, now that CM Punk is gone. No word yet if this means Bryan is winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title.

————————————————-

– Former WWE star Kurrgan has a role in the upcoming movie “Brock Mansions” starring the late Paul Walker.

Dory Funk Jr. Comments On The Passing Of Billy Robinson

0

WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr. sent us this statement regarding Billy Robinson, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 74:
I was terribly shocked and saddened to hear the news yesterday of the passing of Billy Robinson. Following is only 1 of many experiences with Billy Robinson.

Calgary Stampede July of 1969 NWA World Championship Match Myself and Billy Robinson – We rode in the parade, Billy, His Wife and I on the back of an open Cadillac Convertible with the top down. Would you have thought it unusual for 2 professional wrestlers going to face each other for the World Championship riding through the streets of Calgary in a parade together?

The credibility of Billy Robinson and his wrestling skills made it the natural thing to do. In front of us was the ring being pulled by a tractor with all the rest of the wrestlers in the ring. Of course right in front of the grandstand, the ring did break down holding up the entire parade. The convertible easily made its’ way around the ring full of wrestlers and to the finish line.

It was totally acceptable to the wrestling fans for Billy and I to be together even though we were wrestling against each other that week in the Main Event.

I was in the Calgary Territory (Promoter Stu Hart) for 8 days. I wrestled Billy Friday to a 1 hour draw in Calgary to set up the return for the following Friday. (Billy and Myself) Saturday in Edmonton we wrestled to a 1 hour draw and the same in Regina, Saskatoon, Lethbridge and somewhere else on Thursday and back in Calgary for the return match for the NWA World Championship Friday and yes you guessed it a 1 hour time limit draw. All matches drew capacity houses.

I will never forget the trip from Saskatoon back to Calgary. Billy and I made the trip in the booker Dave Rhule’s car. He had a clogged fuel filter and Dave’s car would speed up to 80 miles per hour and back down to 20 miles an hour then back to 60 and back to 30. Dave had a case of Canadian Beer and one cassette tape that he played over and over, Merle Haggard’s Okie from Muskogee. We arrived in Calgary at 9:00am with a show that night.

That week with Billy Robinson was a learning experience in a different style of wrestling. Not amateur style but shoot style, Billy was for real mentally and physically as tough as they come, like a champion should be and that helped me tremendously through my next 4 years as NWA World Champion.

My thanks and appreciation to Billy Robinson, a friend I will remember and cherish the time we were able to spend together.
My condolences to the family of Billy Robinson.
