This isn’t Cesaro’s normal type of exciting match, but look at the opponent. Just as Cesaro was going for the Swing, Jack Swagger came out and put the ankle lock on Cesaro. The bell rings and Cesaro wins by DQ. Show throws Swagger out of the ring and then Cesaro attacks Show from behind. Cesaro struggles a lot but successfully hits Show with the Neutralizer.

They all brawled to the floor for the count out. Kane, Orton and Batista got the upperhand after the bell until The Shield came out. Orton and Batista ran off together and Bryan laid Kane out with a flying knee. SmackDown ends with Bryan and The Shield celebrating to “yes!” chants.

MMA News 4-11-14: UFC Fight Night 39, Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Caruso?

0

After four years, the UFC returned to Abu Dhabi for a special Friday event that aired entirely on Fight Pass. UFC Fight Night 39 featured a main event between heavyweights Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

As he has done to the likes of Cheick Kongo, Matt Mitrione and others, Nelson landed his heavy right hand and dropped Nogueira, flooring the former interim UFC heavyweight champion. Nelson, a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter, offered plenty of respect to Nogueira after the fight.

“He’s a legend,” said Nelson, who improved to 20-9 with the first round win. “Thank you. If it wasn’t for him, there wouldn’t be fighting in MMA. He’s the heavyweight (legend).”

In the co-main event, Clay Guida picked up his second featherweight victory, besting Tatsuya Kawajiri via decision. Other main card results saw Ryan LaFlare defeat John Howard and Ramsey Nijm finish Beneil Dariush.

Nelson and Nijem each earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses and an extra $50,000, while Guida and Kawajiri were named the “Fight of the Night.”

The attendance was announced at 7,963, which UFC president Dana White stated was a sellout, for a live gate of $1.8 million.

Complete results can be found below:

Roy Nelson def. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira via KO (right-hand) at 3:37 of Round 1

Clay Guida def. Tatsuya Kawajiri via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Ryan LaFlare def. John Howard via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Ramsey Nijem def. Beneil Dariush via TKO (strikes) at 4:20 of Round 1

Jared Rosholt def. Daniel Omielanczuk via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Thales Leites def. Trevor Smith via TKO (strikes) at :45 of Round 1

Jim Alers def. Alan Omer via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Johnny Bedford vs. Rani Yahya is declared a no-contest due to accidental head butt at :39 of Round 1

`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`

Unlike Cris Cyborg or Miesha Tate, UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey actually respects Gina Carano. She respects her so much that, even after almost five years away from MMA, Rousey is willing to put her belt on the line in an immediate championship match if Carano returns to the sport.

“I think it would be the best thing for women’s MMA,” said Rousey, during a media luncheon earlier this week in Los Angeles (thanks to MMAFighting.com for the quotes). “I think it would be the highest profile fight that could be done. I think it would make more sense to go straight to a title fight.

“I don’t think it would make sense for her to come back and fight somebody else and take the risk of losing and not being able to capitalize on the fight between me and her. She’s one of the pioneers of the sport. She’s the reason I fight at all.”

Rousey (9-0) is coming off a first round TKO victory over Sara McMann this past February. Like Carano, she is also working her way through Hollywood, receiving roles in several upcoming projects. She is set to be the lead female in the “Entourage” film, and also filmed scenes for “The Expendables 3” last year.

Carano (7-1) has been away from the MMA spotlight since a 2009 loss to Cyborg in Strikeforce. She selected a movie career full-time after that defeat, but has stated in recent interviews there remains an itch to return to fighting.

UFC president Dana White and Carano met earlier this week to discuss such a return. Her contract remains owned by Zuffa, which purchased it in the Strikeforce deal a few years ago.

“She’s going to come back when she wants to sign,” White said during the same press event. “She’s the type of person like this one here (pointing to Rousey), she’s not coming back just because. She’s coming back because she wants the title.”

Bret Hart Remembers The Ultimate Warrior

0

[spacer height=”20px”]- Bret Hart tweeted the following about The Ultimate Warrior:

“I’m deeply saddened at the sudden passing of Jim Helwig, The Ultimate Warrior. I wish I’d been kinder to him in the last moments that we had this past weekend at WrestleMania 30. We did cross paths once or twice, but we were all so busy. I never went out of my way to see him, but if I could… I’d tell him he looked good. He looked content and he looked like he’d finally found happiness within his children and his wife. He never ever harmed me nor did we really work with one another… I wish we had. His final ring promo breaks my heart. I’ve many fond memories of times we shared, only now do they pile up in my head. I’d also tell him that he was right, he never was such a bad guy. My thoughts are with his wife and children. I never thought his time would be so short. I know one thing, I will never forget him. – Bret”[spacer height=”20px”]

TNA News for 4/11/14: Samoa Joe Injury Update, Talent Worried About Spike Deal

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– TNA talents continue to be nervous because nothing has been announced regarding a renewal of TNA’s contract with Spike TV. There is talk that one of the reasons they are going into the expensive New York market for tapings this summer is because it’s a way to impress Spike officials that they are still looking to improve and that the Northeast audience will come across more rabid on TV.

– As of yesterday, Daniels and Kazarian had not signed new deals with TNA. Both expire within the next few weeks.

– The TNA live event on April 3rd in Augusta, Georgia drew 450 fans.

– Samoa Joe is out of action with a concussion that he suffered on the March 28th TNA live event in Lincoln, Nebraska.

– Angelina Love suffered a minor concussion on April 4th at the Mid-South Fan Fest during WrestleMania weekend. She worked last night’s Impact.

Who Decided to End the Streak? Who Knew It Was Ending? More Questions Answered

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Referee Chad Patton did not know that The Undertaker would be losing to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX. He was told Taker was winning but the rule every referee is told is that if the guys don’t kick out, you continue the count. Right after the match ended, Lesnar whispered in Taker’s ear, “Thank you.”

Apparently the decision to end The Streak was finalized on March 31st. Only a few people knew the outcome before WrestleMania Sunday. The group of people that knew were most likely Vince McMahon, Taker, Lesnar, Paul Heyman, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. None of the agents were aware. The actual script for the show did not have a finish listed but this didn’t raise any red flags because that’s not unusual for WrestleMania and it wasn’t the only match that didn’t have a finish listed.

Whether or not The Undertaker is done, Vince was going on the assumption that this was his last match and he could either win or lose. McMahon chose the idea that it’s better to lose on your way out. One person close to the situation said Vince talked Taker into losing. Another person, who would also be in the know, described it as Vince making the call and Taker agreeing, and that he wasn’t talked into doing something he didn’t want to do. Losing was not Taker’s original decision but he was in on it and never protested the decision. Perhaps, like he thought in 2010, if he was going to lose, maybe he thought Lesnar was the guy to lose to.

There were many people within WWE very unhappy about The Streak ending but couldn’t say so publicly.
