Champions
World: Raven
TV: Pitbull 2
Tag Team: Eliminators

Dudley Boys (w/ Sign Guy Dudley) vs. Bad Crew ref Jim Molineaux
Buh Buh gets on the mic before the match and stutters to get his name out but D-Von takes the mic out of his hand. D-Von gives the Dudley commandments to Bad Crew. They attack the Bad Crew when he gets to number three. Buh Buh throws one over the top rope and they double team the other. Buh Buh hits an avalanche in the corner and D-Von with a clothesline. Slingshot gordbuster by Buh Buh, bodyslam and leg drop by D-Von. Buh Buh goes to the apron as things settle down. D-Von tags Buh Buh after a few kicks and chops and Buh Buh hits a clothesline. Bodyslam and Buh Buh goes up top but misses a splash. Tag made by the Bad Crew. Chair to the back of Buh Buh and again. D-Von gets a chair but the ref blocks him from getting in the ring. The chair gets placed on Buh Buh and one of the Bad Crew hit a Vaderbomb off the top rope. Tag mad and the Bad Crew comes into the ring with a somersault off the rope to a standing Buh Buh. Buh Buh has a bloody nose. Tag made and a double back elbow by Bad Crew gets a 2 count. Tag made and a Bad Crew member charges Buh Buh with a chair. Buh Buh gets his foot up though and both men crawl and make tags. D-Von comes in and throws both Bad Crew into the same corner and chokes them. He throws one to the floor and Buh Buh goes after him. The other goes to the floor and D-Von is after him. The Dudleys get in a bunch of chair shots. In the ring D-Von charges at a Bad Crew member but he ducks and D-Von sails over the top rope. Bad Crew hit a heart attack on Buh Buh. D-Von comes in the ring with a chair to stop the 3-count from happening and hits the ref with it. Bad Crew picks up the victory by DQ in 7.55. D-Von gets on the mic afterwards and blames Buh Buh. They argue a bit and threaten each other. Buh Buh gets a chair so D-Von begs off. He drops to his knee and apologizes and tells Buh Buh he will never be mean to him again. They hug and D-Von takes the chair and hits Buh Buh with it. He turns and hits Sign Guy also. D-Von leaves but then comes back and hits Sign Guy again. He yells at Buh Buh stomps him and hits him with a chair again. This whole segment felt like it took forever.

F.B.I. come to the ring and then Devon Storm. Storm and JT Smith talk back and forth but I can’t hear anything they are saying. Little Guido attacks and we get a bell.

F.B.I. vs. Devon Storm ref John Finnegan
Storm fights back and hits a top rope dropkick on Guido. He goes back up and hits a cross body on Smith. Storm powerbombs Guido onto Smith and hits a springboard moonsault onto both of them. Guido is able to trip up Storm and the FBI take over and Smith and Guido double team. Sal Bellomo comes down the aisle making his return to ECW! Bellomo gets up on the apron and says he’s with Storm and we have a legit tag match now.

F.B.I. vs. Devon Storm & Salvatore Bellomo ref John Finnegan
Bellomo instead of going in the ring to break up the double team goes to the apron. He just stands there and yells at Smith to get out of the ring. Why would you not have just charged the ring from the start to help out? The FBI whips in Storm and duck there heads. Storm DDTs both and makes the tag. Bellomo cleans house of the FBI. Guido rakes the eyes and they double team Bellomo. Storm gets up top and hits an awesome Diamond Cutter/Buff Blockbuster type move. He goes for the pin but the ref is distracted. Guido comes off the top rope with a fist drop and Smith covers and puts his feet on the ropes for leverage and gets the win. Total time of the whole thing 5.30.

We get an edit and come back to Storm and Bellomo fighting on the floor. Storm puts Bellomo in a chair and hits a flip over the top rope onto him. Wish I knew what caused that.

Shoot Fight Rules Match: Jason Helton vs. Paul Varelans ref Jim Molineaux
Same match as from the 8th Varelans kicks him and hits a elbow to the back of the head and knocks Helton down for the 10 count. Time of match .34.

Stevie ducks a clothesline, Mikey ducks one and Mikey hits one sending Richards over the top rope. Mikey planchas to the floor onto Richards. Back in the ring Mikey runs off Richards back and flips out of the ring onto Meanie. Mikey hits a top rope crossbody and gets a 2 on Richards. Legdrop for another 2 count and Mikey grabs onto a chin lock. Richards breaks free Mikey goes for a victory roll but can’t bring Richards over. He spins to try for a frankensteiner but Stevie drops into a powerbomb. Double arm suplex by Richards gets 2. Fallaway slam as Richards does his Razor Ramon impression. Mikey hits a superkick, Meanie tries to break up the pin with a splash but hits Richards. Super frankensteiner gets the 3 more Mikey at 9.45.

Tag Team Champions The Eliminators vs. The Gangstas ref Jim Molineaux
We join this one in progress as Kronus is brawling with Mustafa and New Jack and Saturn are going at it. All on the floor of course. Kronus gets slammed through a table. Mustafa, New Jack and Saturn are in the ring now. Mustafa hits a suplex and Jack a head but off the top. Kronus gets in the ring and goes after Mustafa. Mustafa planchas onto Kronus on the floor. They go into the crowd Kronus powerbombs Mustafa on an air hockey table. Mustafa gets a chair and hits Kronus on the head then throws him through all the chairs in the crowd. They go back in the ring where New Jack is stomping on Saturn. The Gangstas dump out Kronus and hit a back suplex diving clothesline on Saturn. Kronus makes the save on the pin though. Kronus goes into the ref and they both go down. Gangstas double clothesline Kronus. Mustafa clotheslines Kronus to the floor. Mustafa gets whipped into the rail. Kronus picks up a belt and hits New Jack with it. Total Elimination and Eliminators are still champions. 8.12 is shown with the match being announced as a 9.42.

Bruise Brothers vs. Axl Rotten & “The Shah” Hack Meyers ref John Finnegan
Should be an easy win here for the brothers. Hack starts off with for his team and is powered back into a corner. He takes a few shoulders and eats a couple rights. Hack gets whipped to the other corner and gets his boot up on the charge. He fights back and the Harris brothers regroup on the floor. Hack makes a tag and they double team. Ian now in and he hammers away and makes the tag back out. Double clothesline gets a two for Hack and he goes to an arm bar. Tag to Axl and he stays on the arm. Clothesline by Axl but he misses to top rope elbow. Axl gets clotheslined down and the Harris brothers tag. Axl gets hammered on and throw to the floor. Back in Axl gets hit with another clothesline, like the 9th of the match. A few tags are made by the Bruise Brothers unitl one of them misses a corner charge. Axl makes the tag and “The Shah takes out both his opponents. All four men brawl into the crowd. Axl takes a bunch of chair shots on the floor. Hack gets hit with one in the ring. He gets picked up and the chair is held by his head as the other Bruise Brother gives it a running big boot and they get the win in 7.24

Taz (w/ Bill Alfonso) vs. Sandman (w/ Missy Hyatt) ref John Finnegan
Alfonso on the mic and he says the Sandman better not bring his slut to the ring. Sandman’s music hits and here he comes with Missy. Tod Gordon comes to the ring during the introductions and tells Sandman he can’t wrestle because of his leg injury. Missy puts his face in her boobs and Alfonso attacks him. They roll to the floor as we get the bell. Sandman keeps his cane and tries to stay away from Taz. Taz dives but gets hit with the cane. Alfonso gets in the ring and hits Sandman who turns to attack Alfonso. Taz sneaks up behind and locks in the Tazmission for the win 1.42. Gordon attacks Alfonso after the match and Taz puts him in the Tazmission. Alfonso puts Missy in it and Taz puts the ref in it when he tries to break it up. Taz gets the mic and trash talks the four people on the mat. He hypes his match with Paul Varelans coming up this Saturday. Sandman tries to get back up but Alfonso hits him a few times with the cane. Taz curses at a bunch of fans, they start a “Fuck you Taz” chant. Taz has the crowd really hot as he leaves the ring.

TV Champion Pitbull 2 (w/ Francine) vs. “The Franchise” Shane Douglas ref Jim Molineaux
Douglas on the mic before the match says Pitbull could come out to the ring and get his ass kicked or save himself the beating and just hand over the belt. Guess what he did. In case you weren’t sure he didn’t just give him the belt. Lets see if he gets an ass kicking though. Pitbull makes his second title defense here. HAHA some guys are giving Shane the finger and he asks them if that’s their IQ. Lock up and Pitbull pushes Douglas back showing his opponent that he has the power advantage. Shane bails to the floor to get into the same peoples faces. Shane starts to leave and begins to get counted out. Shane threatens the ref with bodily harm if he counts him out. Pitbull 2 with a headlock and hits a shoulder tackle as Shane again bails to the floor. Back in the ring Shane in a hammerlock but still finds time to scream “Fuck you” to the fans. Shane fights out of hit and chokes Pitbull as the fans chant “Razor” at him. Pitbull reverses a corner whip but Shane tires to leap Pitbull on the charge. Pitbull catches the feet throws Shane to the apron. Suplex back in followed by a running powerslam for 2. Pitbull beats on Shane in a corner as Shane begs for mercy. Pitbull pulls Shane out of the corner by his feet and he crash in the center of the ring. Pitbull whips Shane into a corner and charges but Shane gets up the foot and hits a bulldog. Shane hits a running big boot for 2. Shane again jaws with the fans. Shane hits a body slam and goes up top with a flying somersault to a standing Pitbull. Pitbull fights back and a press slam and running back elbow both getting 2 counts. Pitbull slows things down with an arm bar. Douglas sells it but of course yells at the fans more. After about 2 minutes in the arm bar Shane tries to get out by jumping up on Pitbulls shoulders but slips and falls. Pitbull walks around the ring and then puts on a headlock. Seriously after a 2 minute arm bar you go to a headlock!! Pitbull hits a powerslam on Shane and they go the floor where Shane fights back and hits Pitbull with a chair. Back in the ring Shane hits a pile driver for 2. Pitbull fights back but ducks his head on an irish whip and Shane hits a swinging neck breaker. Shane hits the belly to belly but gets up from the pin to argue with a fan. Shane goes to the apron and Pitbull grabs him by the throat and pulls him back into the ring. Shane goes for a big boot but Pitbull catches in on his shoulder and powerbombs Shane for the win at 15.12.

World Champion Raven (w/ Stevie Richards & Blue Meanie) vs. Tommy Dreamer (w/ Beulah) ref Jim Molineaux Falls Count Anywhere
Richards on the mic before the match says Dreamer has never and will never beat Raven. Dreamer charges Raven to start the match puts his head down and runs right into a DDT. After a 2 count Raven drops a knee in between Dreamers legs and then hits a piledriver. Raven gets a chair and stands it up in the corner. He throws Dreamer into the chair. Raven then hits Dreamer with it and gets a new chair and throws Dreamer into that chair. Head-butt below the belt by Raven. Raven goes for a DDT but Dreamer pushes him back into a corner and ties him up in the tree of woe. Dreamer punches Raven in the balls repeatedly. Inverted atomic drop and powerslam get a 2 count for the challenger. Dreamer clotheslines Raven and both men go over the top rope. Right back in the ring Dreamer has a chair. He body slams Raven on it but then misses a top rope splash and hits the chair. They go back to the floor and Dreamer reverses a whip and sends Raven to the guardrail. Dreamer gets some weapons from the fans and uses them on Raven. They fight in the crowd and Raven gets busted open. Raven goes for a piledriver on the floor but Dreamer back drops him. Dreamer now hits a piledriver of his own and gets a two count. Dreamer gets shoved into a support post and they drag each other outside. Dreamer goes into a garage door and gets covered for a 2. They go back inside and Dreamer gets a piece of glass and digs it into Raven’s head. Dreamer throws the merchandise table at Raven. Dreamer goes to hit Raven but the ref gets in the way and he goes down. Raven with a low blow and he’s back in control. Stevie says he is going be ref now and takes the refs shirt. Raven hits a DDT and Stevie tries to quick count but Dreamer kicks out. Dreamer school boys Raven and Richards stops his count way before Raven kicks out. Raven accidentally hits Richards and Dreamer with another school boy. The actually ref starts a count but Raven kicks out. Dreamer charges Raven with a chair in his hands but Raven has his own chair and hits Dreamers with it. Axl Rotten gets in the ring and takes the ref shirt for some reason. Dreamer with a DDT he goes for another one but Brian Lee and one of the Bruise Brothers hits the ring while Axl is busy tying his shoe. Lee hits a chokeslam and Raven retains at 15.42. Dreamer and Beulah beat up Richards and Meanie. Axl hits the ring and gets on the mic and tells Dreamer he’s a loser. Dreamer DDTs him

My thoughts on the show
I was dying until the tag title match. Everything was moving so slow with the two tag matches being really, really, long segments. I said a few shows ago that Shane was clearly the top draw in the company. Taz has very quickly jumped up to the number 2 spot. What a stupid ass finish to this show with Axl Rotten being involved for no reason at all. This was only about 20 minutes longer than the house shows usually are but it felt like it lasted FOREVER. I powered through it though so that you didn’t have to. Avoid this show unless you’re having trouble sleeping.

Announced Attendance:  7,190 ( Super No Vacancy)

It is not too often I get to review an event so soon after it takes place, so when I get the chance I tend to take full advantage even if it does mean I am skipping ahead a bit.  The “Wrestling Dontaku” events are held annually in New Japan during “Golden Week” in Japan.  It is always a big show and this one is no different with five title matches, including Styles challenging Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.  Here is the full card:

Match Thoughts:  A fun way to open the card (this was technically the ‘dark match’ for the event).   It was of course simple and with so many wrestlers they didn’t really get into any type of structure but all the wrestlers got at least a second to shine.  Komatsu has a lot of fire and seems to be improving, it will be fun to see how high up the ladder he can get over the next few years.  They kept it short so it didn’t get old, but not so short that the match was completely pointless.  It probably would have been better with one less on each team but as an opener it served its purpose and was a decent match.  Score:  5.5

(c) The Young Bucks vs. Rocky Romero and Alex Koslov

This match is for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.  Nick and Koslov start things off.  Tie-up, Koslov gets Nick in the ropes and he gives a clean break.  Kick to the stomach by Nick, Irish whip, reversed, and Koslov hits a wheelbarrow into an armdrag.  They go through another exchange which Koslov gets the better of, and Koslov hits an armdrag.  Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Koslov and Nick tags in Matt.  Romero tags in as well, Matt and Romero circle each other, tie-up, side headlock by Matt, Romero Irish whips out of it but Matt shoulderblocks him down.  Monkey flip by Matt but Romero lands on his feet, Matt charges Romero but Romero moves and Matt falls out of the ring.  Jumping knee by Romero on Matt from the apron to the floor and he rolls him back into the ring.  Romero tags in Koslov, scoop slam by Romero and Koslov hits a slingshot body press for a two count.  Koslov trips Matt and tags in Romero, Romero goes off the ropes but he doesn’t kick Matt, which leads to Koslov and Romero arguing.  They both  hit an armdrag on Matt and they end up hugging it out.  Romero kicks Matt and punches him in the head, Irish whip, Matt slides out of the ring but Romero slides out after him.  Romero chases Matt but Nick kicks him from the apron.  Nick stomps Koslov on the floor while Matt slides Romero back into the ring, Matt waits for Romero to get up and punches him into the corner. Match Thoughts:  The match time listed on various sites is quite wrong for what it matters, the match was actually over 15 minutes so it got more time than it looked like.  A pretty entertaining match, a lot of the Young Bucks matches look pretty similar and this one didn’t do anything special to set it apart but it was still fun.  Needless to say both of these teams know each other well so the action was very smooth, no real mishaps or (unintentional) misunderstandings, and they kept the pace up for the entire match.  Aside from the feeling of “I have seen this before….” it was a very solid title match.  Score:  6.5

Minoru Suzuki and Shelton Benjamin vs. Toru Yano and Takashi Iizuka

They start brawling at ringside before the match can even start, with Suzuki hitting Yano with a chair.  Elsewhere Benjamin is beating Iizuka around the ring and he throws him into the guard rail.  Benjamin picks up Iizuka and slams him on the floor at ringside.  TAKA  Michinoku and Taichi help out as well as Iizuka is further beaten down at ringside.  Suzuki tags in Benjamin who enters the ring with Yano, and Benjamin hits an armbreaker.  Benjamin applies an armbar but Yano quickly gets a foot on the ropes.  Benjamin picks up Yano and hits a scoop slam, cover, but again he gets two.  Mounted punches by Benjamin, he picks up Yano and hits another scoop slam.  Benjamin tags in Suzuki and Suzuki yanks on Yano’s arm before applying an armbar.  Yano gets into the ropes to force a break, Suzuki wraps Yano’s arm around the top rope and twists on it.  Benjamin comes in the ring to talk to the referee while Suzuki throws Yano out of the ring and hits Iizuka with a steel chair.  Suzuki gets a part of the guard rail and throws that at Iizuka as well before sliding Yano back into the ring.  Benjamin covers Yano but it gets a two count.  Benjamin picks up Yano, Irish whip from the corner but Yano avoids the splash and tags in Iizuka.  Iizuka chokes Benjamin with his tape and he fights off everyone including Taichi and Michinoku.  Iizuka chokes Benjamin, Benjamin gets out of it but Iizuka hits an atomic drop.  Superkick by Benjamin and he tags in Suzuki while Iizuka tags in Yano.  Suzuki throws Yano into the corner, Yano moves when Suzuki charges in but Suzuki kicks Yano in the back.  Suzuki kicks Yano out of the ring before joining him, he tries to throw Yano into the guard rail but Yano reverses it.  Iizuka and Benjamin battle at ringside while back in the ring Suzuki picks up Yano and applies the sleeper.  Iizuka comes in and chokes Suzuki which brings in Benjamin, who hits Iizuka back out of the ring.  Yano throws Suzuki into the exposed corner and gets some handcuffs, he tries to handcuff Suzuki to the ropes but he is hit from ringside by a steel chair.  Suzuki punches Yano against the ropes and he handcuffs Yano to the second rope.  Knees by Suzuki and he chokes Yano in the ropes.  The referee tries to stop him but Suzuki pushes him away, and after doing it again he is DQed.  Your winners:  Toru Yano and Takashi Iizuka

Match Thoughts: A pretty average brawl at best, Suzuki and Benjamin are not ‘natural’ brawlers so at times I was wondering why Suzuki wasn’t dropping people with piledrivers instead of brawling around the ring. Benjamin always seemed out of place, I know he is in Suzuki’s faction but he came across as the third wheel. Suzuki getting DQed was silly as he can beat Yano whenever he wants and the referee gave him more than enough chances, it makes sense when a heel cheats and gets DQed, but in a match with such laid back rules in the first place it just didn’t seem necessary or that it really continued the story. So not a very good match. Score: 4.0

Match Thoughts: Lots of questions were running through my head while I watched this match, the most common one was “Why?”. The biggest issue with the match, besides that Brisco getting a title shot is random, is that Brisco was beaten way too easily. He dominates the match, lots of leg work which was fine (although ultimately forgotten), but he gets pinned after one brainbuster and a lariat. Since when did Kojima win with just one lariat, usually it takes a handful of them and this was a title match. Not that I am advocating overkill, but I wouldn’t have minded if Brisco had shown a bit of adversity here instead of being defeated the first chance he got. Kojima is nowhere near the wrestler he used to be to be able to carry a match like this, not that he was trying to, and I thought overall the match was pretty flat.Score: 3.5

Match Thoughts: Botched moves can be a bitch, especially if they are near the end of the match, as that is the lasting impression you have. I don’t know if the match was supposed to end with the Shouten Kai, but even Goto knew he messed the move up too bad to cover Nakanishi without everyone rolling their eyes, so it was smart to go to the submission hold to try to cover it. The bad botch aside the match was acceptable, actually Nakanishi seemed to be going out of his way to not be boring which I appreciate. I wish that Goto had done something bigger on the show but he did get the pinfall so he should hopefully keep going upward. The action was solid, nothing offensive but nothing really special either, but botching what was probably the finish is never a good thing. Score: 5.5

Match Thoughts: Fun match. One of the things I liked about it is that unlike Brisco, these two were actually reversing each other’s moves to avoid finishers and in general made it look like the title really meant something to them. Ibushi must have gotten out of the Dodon half a dozen times, every time Taguchi went for it you just kinda lean in, wondering if it would actually work this time, and that added suspense is always a good thing. Ibushi’s offense can have a bit… too much flare at times but he hit a perfect Phoenix Splash so I will let it slide. The match felt like an even encounter, Ibushi was in control but there were a few times that Taguchi seemed so close to getting the title. Overall it was entertaining and definitely a step up from the last few matches. Score: 7.0

Match Thoughts: Awesome match, loved every minute of it. Ishii has been on a real hot streak for about a year now, and Honma is always up for doing crazy stuff in big matches. Honma isn’t really at the same level as Ishii, and he showed it in this match as he was going for the most nutty versions of his moves to try to put the better wrestler down. Ishii was brutal as always (in a good way), nailing Honma with lariats and headbutts, and he put Honma away in very convincing fashion. I wish Honma had a few more moves in his arsenal so he didn’t have to go for the headbutt so many times, but that is a small quibble, this match was man-sized. Score: 8.0

Match Thoughts: The problem with matches like this is that if you don’t want the match to be 60 minutes long, at some point wrestlers have to get pinned by something that wouldn’t normally beat them. Liger and Tama both went down really easy for example, simply because they had to get through those eliminations to get to the final stretch of the match. Once the eliminations started they went rapid-fire, the Liger one was so quick that they missed Anderson’s move since they were still showing the last eliminated wrestler leaving. With the match structure and match time there was no way this match was going to deliver, but at least they made the last elimination be convincing and each wrestler got to do a little something to help justify why they were in the match. Makabe still hits way too many lariats though, I realize he will never stop but he wasn’t in the match that long to use the same move so repetitively. The match needed about six less wrestlers or 30 more minutes to be good, it just didn’t really work the way it was presented even if the wrestlers were doing the best they could. Score: 5.0

Match Thoughts: Whatever this is, I wish they would stop. I have no interest in watching fake MMA, especially when it isn’t done very well (Nakamura still doesn’t look very comfortable with this format). Every major New Japan card this year has had a short meaningless tag match with the Gracies, and whatever the point is I hope they get there soon as there is nothing entertaining here. Watching old MMA guys (like Funaki) can be fun, but when they try to do an MMA style match it is awkward, boring, and ultimately not enjoyable. I bet Inoki is enjoying it, but I am not. Score: 2.5

Styles Clash by Styles, cover, and he picks up the three count. Your winner and new champion: AJ Styles

Match Thoughts: First of all, I have no issues with Styles winning. New Japan has been somewhat stale the last six months as they have great wrestlers that put on great matches, but it has been the same pairings for awhile so at least this will mix things up a bit. Styles is a respected veteran so him winning didn’t really seem out of place. I do wish though that it was a more ‘clean’ win, New Japan is clearly going all-in with the Bullet Club but Okada had such a good reign I’d rather he went out with a bang, not due to Yujiro of all people interfering. The match was a bit sloppy at points and most of the action was a bit more basic until the final stretch, which isn’t too surprising since it was a new pairing but I know that both are capable of more. The action was generally very solid, I just am dreading a series of Styles defenses where he only wins due to outside interference. We’ll see where they go with it, but they are certainly shaking things up. Score: 6.5

Final Thoughts:

Best Match: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tomoaki Honma. For two guys that not too long ago were mid-card afterthoughts, they sure can put on an entertaining match. Ishii has really been coming into his own and just brutalizes people, while Honma is still the crazy wrestler that he was more than 10 years ago in Big Japan Pro Wrestling. There was little downtime in this match as they just took turns knocking each other around. Not a perfect match but very entertaining.

MVP: Tomohiro Ishii. No one really stuck out at this event to be honest, at least not in a good way, so Ishii gets the nod since he was the best wrestler in the best match even if it wasn’t one of the main matches on the event.

Overall: Ten matches is a lot of matches to put on one card, and one of the things that suffers due to that is the matches get shorter, and the wrestlers get less time to really put on a great match. So you get a lot of good matches, but that is about it. All the New Japan title matches delivered to an extent, but the only match that really stood out was Ishii/Honma. The main event wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as polished as you’d expect and the ending will take a lot out of it for some fans. With just the sheer level of talent it is difficult for New Japan to really have a bad show, but this was only average and isn’t one a casual fan needs to go out of their way to see.

– No word yet on what came out Rey Mysterio’s April 30th meeting at WWE headquarters but the impression was given that Rey would be offered an ambassador’s deal, particularly for Spanish language markets, and then wrestle part-time. His situation is said to be up in the air but Vince McMahon wants him back on TV.

– Lana and Rusev are reportedly dating in real life.

– The dark segment after last night’s WWE SmackDown tapings in Buffalo saw John Cena and The Usos challenging The Wyatt Family to a match. They didn’t have a match but Cena and The Usos hit their finishers on The Wyatts and then celebrated together to end the show.

– Some of the WWE developmental cuts were made last week because a number of new talents are starting this month and next month. Gerald Brisco was going to send 6 to 8 amateur wrestling recruits to begin training in June at the WWE Performance Center. University of Minnesota’s Tony Nelson was the guy Brisco was highest on but at last word, Nelson had not signed with WWE.

– The idea of giving WWE talents time off to recharge and heal up has been talked about as a strategy down the line. The feeling right now is that may be a good thing but the weak roster depth doesn’t allow it. There is concern right now about the idea of consistently running shows without either John Cena or Daniel Bryan as the advertised headliner.

– As best we can tell, WWE hasn’t contacted any indie wrestlers from the March tryout camp at the Performance Center. That camp included Kevin Steen, ACH, Rocky Romero and Roderick Strong.

– Triple H recently paid big money for some old wrestling posters and memorabilia from collectors. WWE has also purchased some items from Charlie Thesz, Lou Thesz’s widow.

– People bought more merchandise for The Ultimate Warrior in the month of April than anyone else, including John Cena. The internet merchandise numbers were Warrior first, followed by Cena, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, The Wyatt Family, The Shield, Evolution and Hulk Hogan. At live events, Cena’s sales are so far ahead of everyone else that it’s not even close. The latest best-sellers at arenas have been Cena, Bryan, Randy Orton, Warrior, Rob Van Dam, Brock Lesnar, The Wyatts, Batista and Sin Cara has broke into the #9 spot.

WWE has changed some of their originally intended plans for the future.

– The talk within WWE as it relates to The Shield is that plans for the future of the faction have changed. Originally they were just going to delay the breakup of the group due to the feeling that they were getting over strong as a baby face faction, however now it appears that splitting up The Shield is not even being talked about for any time soon.

Originally, The Shield breakup was going to have already happened.

– Randy Orton was going to switch to a baby face, as the company had even informed their merchandise department to work on some baby face items for Orton for down the line. That appears to be off the table at this point, with the current plan having Orton staying heel for the time being. WWE had been looking at the following four stars — in order — to be the top four singles baby faces for down the line: John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro and Sheamus. Now it appears Sheamus could change.

– As far as Sheamus is concerned, while the original plan was to push him as one of the top baby faces in the company, it appears that they are starting a slow build towards an eventual heel turn for him.

– Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson made an appearance on a recent edition of “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” You can see part of the interview in the video above, courtesy of CBS.

Jackson is set to fight next Saturday night at Bellator 120 against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in the season 10 light heavyweight tournament final. The winner becomes the next contender to the Bellator 205-pound belt and earns $10,000 for winning the tourney.

The 35-year-old Jackson (34-11) has won his first two fights in Bellator after having his contract expire from the UFC in 2013. He lost three straight to conclude his inside the Octagon, falling to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Ryan Bader and recent contender Glover Teixeira.

Bellator 120 will be the first pay-per-view hosted by the promotion. The main event is set to feature lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez against Michael Chandler.

– The UFC has looked to the light heavyweight ranks to find a suitable opponent for Stipe Miocic at The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale, tabbing Fabio Maldonado. Junior dos Santos was scheduled to face Miocic, but an injury forced him out. News of the fight was first reported by Combate.

Maldonado (21-6) has scored three consecutive victories at 205 pounds, improving to 4-3 overall inside the Octagon. Earlier this year, he defeated Gian Villante. Miocic (11-1) is coming off back-to-back wins, including a decision victory over Roy Nelson.

“Honestly just happy the UFC got me a fight and I can’t wait to get to Brazil to put on a show for the fans I’ve been hearing so much about,” Miocic wrote on Twitter.

– Sarah Kaufman, a former Strikeforce women’s champion and contender in the UFC’s bantamweight division, escaped a car accident without serious injury to herself over the weekend. Her vehicle, though, was not as lucky.

Kaufman’s car was hit by another car that ran a red light. She posted a photo of the damage, along with the comment “Running red lights is NOT COOL! Now I need a new car.” Kaufman is pushing for a potential fight later this year at UFC 174 in Canada against Miesha Tate.

There’s speculation that Kane may lose the Buried Alive match to Daniel Bryan at WWE Payback as a way to write him off TV for a few months until he returns to promote WWE Studios’ See No Evil 2.

The movie does not have an official release date yet but it’s expected some time in October. When Kane first gave up his mask last fall, the idea was that he would look more like his Jacob Goodnight character in the movie.

PWInsider confirms plans to have Evolution and The Shield go at it again. While there is talk of doing the six-man rematch at Payback, there is also talk of doing a series of 3 singles matches with members of each group going at it one-on-one.

The big discussion at this week’s WWE tapings was what to do with The Shield and Evolution at Payback, so they are going back and forth on different ideas.

Rumors of a planned feud between Cody Rhodes and Goldust, have been confirmed with Cody working as the heel. The idea is to do a short program between the two.
