Here we are again, back to ZERO1. I am not ignoring them, they just don’t ‘make tape’ very often, at least not tape that reaches me here in the States. They sadly don’t have a regular TV show, although they do pop up on Samurai TV! sometimes. This card has a NWA United National Heavyweight Championship match as well as Sugiura invading from NOAH. Here is the full card:

– Chou-un Shiryu, Jason Lee, and Mr. 450° vs. Toru Owashi, Takuya Sugawara, and Mineo Fujita
– Gokiburi Mask #1 and Gokiburi Mask #2 vs. Menso~re Oyaji and Hiroyo Matsumoto
– HUB and Tigers Mask vs. Ikuto Hidaka and Fujita “Jr.” Hayato
– Demon Ueda vs. Yusaku Obata
– Ryouji Sai, KAMIKAZE, and Yoshikazu Yokoyama vs. TARU, “brother” YASSHI, and Kengo
NWA United National Heavyweight Championship: Tama Williams vs. Daichi Hashimoto
– Shinjiro Otani and Kohei Sato vs. Takashi Sugiura and Masato Tanaka

Like a lot of the smaller promotion’s events, this one is pretty heavily clipped towards the beginning but it gets better as we get further along.

Chou-un Shiryu, Jason Lee, and Mr. 450° vs. Toru Owashi, Takuya Sugawara, and Mineo Fujita
Joined in Progress, with Owashi chopping Lee in the corner. Lee switches positions with him and returns the favor, and they go back and forth until Owashi pushes Lee back. Owashi applies a stretch hold on the mat but releases it after a moment. We jump ahead to Mr. 450 getting triple teamed, ending with a triple dropkick. Fujita picks up Mr. 450 but Mr. 450 sneaks in a sunset flip. Superkick by Mr. 450, he goes up to the top turnbuckle but he is grabbed from the apron. Fujita is up and he hits a Frankensteiner, but Mr. 450 rolls through it for a two count. Fujita applies a modified Gannosuke Clutch, and he picks up the three count. Your winners: Toru Owashi, Takuya Sugawara, and Mineo Fujita

Match Thoughts: Extremely clipped as we saw less than two minute of the match which was over eleven minutes long. I am not complaining, looking at the wrestlers I am perfectly fine with missing this match. Score: N/A

Gokiburi Mask #1 and Gokiburi Mask #2 vs. Menso~re Oyaji and Hiroyo Matsumoto
Mask #1 and Oyaji start things off. Oyaji attacks Mask #1 from behind, and we clip ahead to Matsumoto being in the ring with Mask #1. Mask #2 comes in the ring and kicks Matsumoto, double Irish whip to the corner but Matsumoto avoids both of them. Matsumoto kicks Oyaji and throws him at Mask #1 and Mask #2, then runs into them to knock all three over. Hidaka kicks Oyaji against and throws him onto Mask #1, cover, but it gets a two count. Matsumoto throws Oyaji at Mask #1, and she does it a second time. Matsumoto nudges Mask #1 in front of the corner and hits a double stomp, then Oyaji hits a diving doublestomp. Cover, but it gets a two count. Oyaji gets a cardboard box and puts it over Mask #1’s head, but Mask #2 gets in the ring and removes the box. Mask #1 and Mask #2 hit body blocks on their opponents, then they both squash Oyaji. Hui Hui Driver by Mask #1, cover, and he gets a three count. Your winners: Gokiburi Mask #1 and Gokiburi Mask #2

Match Thoughts: This was very clipped as well which again I think was probably for the better. Clearly there was a comedic element here as Matsumoto kept hurting Oyaji in order to attack their opponents. But too clipped up to get a good feel of. Score: N/A

HUB and Tigers Mask vs. Ikuto Hidaka and Fujita “Jr.” Hayato
HUB and Hayato start things off. Waistlock by Hayato into a wristlock, reversed by HUB and he gets Hayato to the mat. HUB goes for a cross armbreaker but Hayato gets out of it and returns to his feet. Elbow by Hayato but HUB returns fire and they trade blows. HUB tags in Tigers Mask and Tigers Mask throws Hayato into the corner. High kick by Tigers Mask, Irish whip, and Tigers Mask hits a second high kick followed by a kick to the back of the head and a lariat. Cover by Tigers Mask but it barely gets a two could. Tigers Mask applies a cobra clutch while bending Hayato over his knee until Hidaka breaks it up. Tigers Mask tags in HUB, club to the back by HUB and he hits Hayato against the ropes. HUB goes off the ropes but Hayato kicks him in the chest, Tigers Mask comes in the ring but he gets dropped as well. Irish whip by HUB, kick to the stomach by Hayato and he delivers a dropkick. Hayato tags in Hidaka, and Hidaka kicks both HUB and Tigers Mask. HUB hits Tigers Mask by accident and Hidaka hits a tornado DDT/kick combination on both wrestlers. Missile dropkick by Hidaka to HUB, cover, but it gets a two count. Hidaka picks up HUB, kicks by Hidaka and he goes off the ropes but HUB avoids Hidaka’s strike and he hits the Black Magic. HUB kicks Hayato in the back of the head and he tags in Tigers Mask.

HUB scoop slams Hidaka and goes up to the top turnbuckle, Tigers Mask lays Hayato on top of Hidaka and HUB hits a diving body press on both men. Tigers Mask stomps Hidaka, they pick him up, Irish whip to the corner and Tigers Mask hits a running elbow. Jumping knee by HUB in the corner, Tigers Mask gets Hidaka around the waist and he hits a German suplex hold while HUB hits a Shining Wizard. Hayato breaks up the pin attempt so HUB throws him out of the ring, Tigers Mask charges Hidaka in the corner but Hidaka pushes him back and hits a spinning heel kick. Lariat by HUB to Hidaka but Hayato knocks him out with a headbutt. Hayato kicks Tigers Mask in the corner and then hits a running knee strike. Hidaka is back up, he grabs Tigers Mask, double Irish whip and Tigers Mask eats a double kick to the chest. PK by Hayato, cover by Hidaka but HUB breaks it up. Hayato throws HUB out of the ring while Hidaka picks up Tigers Mask. Hidaka and Tigers Mask trade kicks which Hidaka gets the better of, cover, but it gets a two count. Hidaka picks up Tigers Mask and nails the Iwami Ginzan, cover, and he picks up the three count. Your winners: Ikuto Hidaka and Fujita “Jr.” Hayato

Match Thoughts: Even though it was clipped in half this was still a fun match. These guys aren’t young anymore but they can still go, and for reasons I can’t really explain I’ve always liked wrestlers in masks so the HUB/Tigers Mask team was extra enjoyable for me. They kept the action moving (probably helped by the clipping), and the home stretch was well done with the teams working really well together. Wish I could have seen the whole thing but still enjoyable. Score: 6.0

Demon Ueda vs. Yusaku Obata
Obata dropkicks Ueda as the match starts and elbows him into the corner. Jumping kick by Obata and Ueda falls out of the ring. Obata goes out to the apron and hits a missile dropkick down to the floor. Obata chokes Ueda with his boot on the floor and he slides Ueda back into the ring. Obata picks up Ueda and he hits a brainbuster. Mounted elbows by Obata, he goes out to the apron but Ueda rolls out of the way of the swandive attack. Lariat by Ueda, he picks up Obata and he nails the Lucifer Hammer. Cover, and he picks up the three count. Your winner: Demon Ueda

Match Thoughts: This was solid but unspectacular. Obata seems to have a pretty limited moveset but he did wrestle with a lot of emotion. It really did feel like a grudge match which it was billed as, so that is a plus. They kept things pretty simple, and even though the match wasn’t long they used a lot of power moves to justify why both wrestlers were ailing by the end. Plus the Lucifer Hammer is a cool move that no one should be kicking out of anyway. It wasn’t complex and if it went longer it may not have worked, but it was perfectly fine for what it was. Score: 6.0

Ryouji Sai, KAMIKAZE, and Yoshikazu Yokoyama vs. TARU, “brother” YASSHI, and Kengo
Yokoyama and TARU start things off. Yokoyama gets jumped from behind by YASSHI and Kengo, and they slam him to the mat. YASSHI picks up Yokoyama and hits him into the corner, Irish whip by YASSHI and they repeatedly lariat Yokoyama in the corner. Chokebomb by TARU to Yokoyama, cover, but Sai breaks it up. TARU hits Sai with a kendo stick, but KAMIKAZE comes in the ring and takes it from him. Sai holds TARU for KAMIKAZE, but TARU moves when KAMIKAZE goes to hit him. TARU talks KAMIKAZE off, Sai goes off the ropes but KAMIKAZE hits Sai with a spinning back kick. KAMIKAZE hits Yokoyama with the kendo stick, scoop slam, and KAMIKAZE hits a moonsault on his own partner. TARU covers Yokoyama and he picks up the three count. Your winners: TARU, “brother” YASSHI, and Kengo

Match Thoughts: This is the first time I’ve seen the Voodoo Murderers in awhile, good to see them again. This was mostly a storyline match, with KAMIKAZE joining the evil team. I wish I understood the promo afterwards as it didn’t make a lot of sense he would attack the Voodoo Murderers for most of the match before changing his mind. Beyond that there wasn’t much to the match, just an average tag team brawl. Score: 5.0

(c) Tama Williams vs. Daichi Hashimoto
This match is for the NWA United National Heavyweight Championship. Dropkick by Hashimoto to start the match, but Williams doesn’t go down. Elbows by Hashimoto but Williams shrugs him off and pushes Hashimoto back. Hard chop by Williams, elbows by Hashimoto and he goes off the ropes, but Williams chops him in the chest. Williams goes off the ropes but Hashimoto ducks the lariat and applies a cross armbreaker. Williams gets up and tries to muscle out of the hold but Hashimoto gets him back to the mat. Hashimoto then applies a choke before releasing the hold. High kick by Hashimoto, he goes off the ropes but Williams throws him in the air and hits a Samoan Drop. Double-Arm Piledriver by Williams and he picks up the three count. Your winner and still champion: Tama Williams

Match Thoughts: A bit lackluster but it had its moments. In my opinion Williams isn’t big enough to act impervious to Hashimoto’s offense. He plays the ‘big gaijin’ role but he isn’t monstrously big, he is just a little bigger than Hashimoto. It also wasn’t really long enough to get across that storyline, I wouldn’t have minded a bit more offense by Williams for Hashimoto to ‘overcome’. Also I hated Hashimoto just releasing the cross armbreaker and the choke in the middle of the ring, it doesn’t make any sense to release a move that can end a match for no reason. That being said Hashimoto did a good job here with his comebacks so it wasn’t a worthless match, but overall it wasn’t great. Score: 4.0

Shinjiro Otani and Kohei Sato vs. Takashi Sugiura and Masato Tanaka

Cover, but it gets a two count. Sugiura picks up Sato and he hits an Olympic Slam, he then sits up Sato so that Tanaka can nail the Sliding D. Cover, and Tanaka picks up the three count. Your winners: Takashi Sugiura and Masato Tanaka

Match Thoughts: A very solid main event with four veterans that can have a good match with their eyes closed. Even though it had a feeling of “I’ve seen this before!” (Otani has been having main event matches like this in ZERO1 for a decade), they kept it entertaining and even with a high median age, it was a pretty fast paced match. Sato still seems to be sleep walking at times but everyone else showed some intensity, and the strike exchanges were well done. Besides the feelings of Déjà vu this was a fun match, really aided by having Sugiura here, and a fitting main event for the show. Score: 7.0

Final Thoughts:

Best Match: Shinjiro Otani and Kohei Sato vs. Takashi Sugiura and Masato Tanaka. It wasn’t really the most exciting match, which can be expected from the ‘seasoned veterans’ of the promotion, but it was still a really good match. The strikes were hard, Sugiura added his usual intensity, and the time really flew by. The ending was great as it kept Sato strong, and having Sugiura have to sit-up Sato for the Sliding D made more sense than Sato just sitting up on his own. A solid main event for ZERO1.

MVP:   Takashi Sugiura. Sugiura added a ‘different’ element to the main event. If it had just been another ZERO1 wrestler in his spot, such as Hashimoto, then it probably would have felt more like ‘old hat’. But Sugiura made things seem more important and urgent, and he really did bring his wrasslin’ boots for the match. Great strike exchanges, good timing with the ‘bigger’ moves, and overall just a really good performance by Sugiura.

Overall: I wouldn’t call this a bad card, but it wasn’t really good either. I don’t like clipped matches, which made the first two matches on the card pretty meaningless. The Jr. Heavyweight tag was fun but also clipped to hell, and the Voodoo Murderers match was more about a storyline than about the action. On the other hand, the grudge match was surprisingly entertaining since I don’t usually equate “Demon Ueda” and “good matches” together, and the main event was definitely solid. This is probably an event better served for ZERO1 fans, but I have seen far worse this year and is a good example of what ZERO1 was offering in early 2014.

The champs attack before the bell and dump out Ninja. One of the Destroyers hits an inziguri and headbutt and makes a tag. Back elbow floors the Wolfman. An awful looking bodyslam and the Destroyer chokes away on Wolfman. The Destroyers tag back and forth a few times using standard big guy offense of punch, kick, choke. One of them forces Wolfman to tag. Ninja comes in with a drop kick that just bounces off. He gets dropped throat first over the top rope. Tag made the Destroyer hits a diving head butt and a super kick. Tag made again and a side slam puts down Ninja. Tag back out and the Destroyer hits a standing senton for the win at 3.52.

Hotstuff International is going to take over.

Glenn Osbourne vs. “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert, ref Jim Molineaux. This is a TV Title Tournament 2nd Round Match
Gilberts gets on the mic before the match and says that his ring attendant Tigra is the most beautiful woman in wrestling. Gilbert offers Osbourne the opportunity to just walk away and let Jimmy Snuka have the title. Osbourne of course doesn’t leave. The bell rings to start the match and Osbourne hits a shoulder tackle off the ropes. Gilbert is busted open, they must have hit heads. Gilbert pushes Osbourne back to the ropes and forearms him. Osbourne fights back and Gilbert goes to the floor. Gilbert messes around with his tights on the floor and the announcers question what weapon he has. Gilbert gets back in the ring and extends his hand to Osbourne. Osbourne doesn’t take it and gets caught with an uppercut. Gilbert throws Osbourne to the floor, hits him with a chair and slams his head into a table. He turns the table over on Osbourne and steps on it. Osbourne rolls back into the ring and Gilbert steps on his throat and grabs a reverse chin lock. Osbourne fights up to a standing position but Gilbert pulls his hair to bring him back down. Osbourne comes back up and throws Gilbert off the ropes. Gilbert ducks a clothesline and they collide and both go down. Osbourne with a head butt and and flying clothesline off an irish whip. Osbourne whips Gilbert to the corner and gives him ten punches. Gilbert goes into his trunks and pulls out brass knuckles for the win at 6.49. Jay Sulli goes to ringside and complains to the ref about what just happened. The ref goes into Gilbert’s tights and finds the weapon and reverses his decision giving Osbourne the win by DQ. Gilbert grabs Sulli and Funk attacks him from behind with a chair. Funk hits Gilbert a few more times with the chair and they make their way to the back as we go to break.

Funk is back at the announcers’ table yelling at Stevie Wonderful for some of the comments he has been making today. Funk is angry and is ready to fight Gilbert.

Back from break and Jay Sulli is with Peaches. Peaches likes Sandman because he is a perfect man and has really great muscles. Rockin’ Rebel comes to the ring and wants Peaches to tell him what Sandman has that he doesn’t. Rebel garbs Peaches and tells her to give him a kiss. She asks him to let go and Rebel says no and again asks for a kiss. She doesn’t scream for the police but does slap him across the face and run off. Rebel hops in the ring and we have…

Rockin’ Rebel vs. Frank Cody, ref Jim Molineaux
Rebel goes right after Cody and hits a loud chop in the corner and a clothesline and spine buster for the win in .24. Rebel runs down the aisle and grabs Peaches, who was trying to leave, by the hair and pulls her back into the ring. Sandman hits the ring and tackles Rebel and starts hammering on him. Tigra gets in the ring and digs her nails into the Sandman’s eyes. Rebel breaks the Sandman’s surfboard over the Sandman’s head. Sandman stumbles backwards and falls into the corner. Stevie Wonderful says “Sandman is hurt” and Sulli responds by screaming “HURT HE COULD BE DEAD”. A bunch of guys from the back come out to chase off Rebel. Peaches leans over Sandman as we go to commercial.

Glenn Osbourne vs. Superfly Jimmy Snuka (w/ “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert), ref John Finnegan. This is the TV Title Tournament Finals Match
President Tod Gordon joins Sulli on commentary as Wonderful is backstage checking on Sandman. Osbourne backs Snuka to the ropes and Snuka pushes him away. Headlock by Osbourne Snuka pushes him off and they criss cross. Osbourne drops down and hits a hip toss and arm drag into and arm bar. Snuka whips Osbourne in and tries a clothesline but its ducked. Osbourne comes back with his own clothesline and Snuka goes to the floor. Gilbert distractions Osbourne and Snuka sneaks back in from behind to take the advantage. Snuka goes for a bodyslam but Osbourne blocks it and he hits one of his own. Osbourne drops an elbow and gets 2. Gilbert gets up on the apron and Osbourne puts Snuka in a headlock. Snuka pushes Osbourne and he hits the ref and he goes down. Osbourne rolls up Snuka but Gilbert hits him with an elbow drop. Snuka hits a back breaker and goes up to for the Superfly Splash, which gets the win, and the TV Title at 4.04. Again they never acknowledge the title lineage and even call Snuka the first ever TV Champion.

Stevie Wonderful is backstage and the text of his name on the screen reads “Stevie Wonderfool?” Oh those crazy video production guys. Wonderful is outside of Sandman’s dressing room and is going to try and get a word. Peaches opens the dressing room door and says Sandman is really hurt and they are waiting for the doctor. She thinks he has a concussion. Wonderful tells us next week Don Muraco will be making his debut.

My thoughts on the show
A milestone this week as we get our first title change on ECW TV. Lots of action this week with five matches crammed into the 50 minutes. All the matches were decent back and forth affairs besides the tag and 20 second Rockin’ Rebel match of course. Two angles that I really enjoyed were the Terry Funk and Eddie Gilbert stuff and the Rockin’ Rebel Sandman feud. Definitely a recommended show.

TV 1993-04-26 (Matches taped 1993-04-02 from Cabrini College in Radnor, PA)

Champions
Heavyweight: Sandman
TV: Superfly Jimmy Snuka
Tag: Super Destroyers

Jay Sulli and Stevie Wonderful welcome us and we are told that two championships will be on the line tonight. ECW Champion Sandman will take on Rockin’ Rebel and Tag Team Champions Super Destroyers will face Tony Stetson and Larry Winters. Eddie Gilbert shows up to ringside as they run down the rest of the card. Gilbert again says he’s the guest host this time because he ran Terry Funk out of town. Eddie Gilbert says he beat Terry Funk in an I Quit match. They go to footage of the match, which is actually from the January joint show. The footage gets cut into with a special announcement by ECW President Tod Gordon who tells us that Terry Funk did not get run out of town and will be on the show next week.

We go to a locker room interview with Hunter Q. Robbins III and Tag Team Champions Super Destroyers. Robbins talks trash about Tony Stetson and Larry Winters. Robbins offers them $500 to beat the champions.

Tag Team Champions Super Destroyers (w/ Hunter Q. Robbins III) vs. Tony Stetson & Larry Winters, ref John Finnegan
The Tag Team Championships and a cool $500 on the line here in this match. Winters starts off and very slowly runs the ropes hits a bulldog and leg drop. Destroyers make the tag and Winters shool boys him for 2 and makes the tag. Stetson and Winters hit a double hip toss and double elbow. Destroyer rakes the eye and makes the tag. Stetson has an early advantage but the Destroyer hits a big boot chokes and makes the tag. Stetson eats a clothesline and elbow drop. The Destroyer on the apron puts his foot on the top rope and Stetson is driven into it and a tag is made. Destroyer comes off the top with a sledge. Quite tag is made and the Destroyers hammer away on Stetson. A few more tags are made the Destroyers hit a few double teams. The Destroyers try to do an illegal switch but do such a shitty job of it Stetson is able to just crawl over and make a tag. Winters gets in a figure four and the other Destroyer comes in the ring and hits him with Robbins’ cane. Winters and Stetson win by DQ in 4.33 But continue to get beat on after the match. The Destroyers go to throw them into each other but get reversed and they hit. Stetson and Winters hit dropkicks on both men and Winters locks in a figure four. The ref breaks it up and we go to commercial.

“Wildman” Sal Bellomo vs. Glen Osbourne, ref Joe Dinolli
Eddie Gilbert hops in the ring before the match and wants to make an announcement. Osbourne keeps interrupting Gilbert and they get into a shoving match. TV Champion “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “Magnificent” Don Murcao come to ringside. Osbourne and Bellomo leave ringside. Muraco lets us know has joined Hotstuff International. They all talk about taking over ECW. Match never takes place.

Chrish Candido and Johnny Hotbody are in the locker room and they are changing their name to Christopher Candido and Jonathan Hotbody and dub themselves the Suicide Blondes (even though Hotbody has black hair). Hotbody says that they will beat up bag ladies from New York and is willing to slap anybody.

Suicide Blondes vs. JT Smith & “Ironman” Tommy Cairo, ref Jim Molineaux
Blondes get lots of heat from the crowd on their way to the ring. The Blondes are announced as “600 pounds including their ego” and from “anywhere but Philadelphia”. This not surprisingly gets them even more heat. Jonathan Hotbody and Cairo start off and Sulli questions the tag name since Hotbody is not blonde. Cairo hits a hip toss and Christopher Candido comes in the ring and gets hip tossed also. Cairo puts on a headlock and Candido starts to come in the ring. Smith jumps in to try and stop him but the ref pushes him back. This allows the Blondes to make an illegal switch. Candido however gets hip tossed Hotbody comes in and gets hip tossed and Candido cuts off Cairo. Candido locks in a chin lock. Cairo pusses him off and hits a shoulder block. Both teams make tags. Hotbody comes in and hits Smith with clothesline. Smith with a body slam and shoves Hotbody into the corner and Candido comes in the ring. Smith throws Candido into the opposite corner then throws Hotbody into him. Candido ends up in the ring with Smith and hits a suplex for 2. Smith reverses an arm bar and tags in Cairo. A few tags back and forth as Smith and Cairo keep working on the arm. Hotbody charges Cairo and gets back dropped. An arm drag takes down Candido and Cairo drop toe holds Hotbody onto Candido. Hotbody and Candido end up arguing on the floor. Candido gets in the ring with Cairo and dumps him to the floor. Hotbody comes off the apron with an elbow. Back in the ring Candido with a gutwrench. Cairo reverses an irish whip and hits a back elbow and side suplex and makes the tag. Smith comes in and so does Hotbody. Candido goes to the floor with Cairo as Smith dropkicks Hotbody. Candido back in the ring knocks down Smith hits body slam and misses a top rope splash. Smith with a slam and moonsault but the ref is being distracted by Cairo. Hotbody comes off the top with an axe handle to the back of Smith’s head and Candido covers for the win at 8.03

We go to the locker room where Don Muraco and Jimmy Snuka are together. Muraco says you have to keep watching to see what Hotstuff International is going to do. Snuka says the same thing and then barks.

TV Champion “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka & Don Muraco (w/ Eddie Gilbert) vs. Hell Riders, ref John Finnegan
Snuka and Muraco attack before the introductions and we get the bell. Muraco dumps HD Rider. Double clothesline on E.Z. Rider and Muraco drives him face first into the mat. Clothesline by Muraco and he tags to Snuka. Snuka hits a chop and tags Muraco back. Corner whip and Muraco follows it with a clotheline. Tag is made to HD but Muraco hits a suplex on him and tags Snuka again. Snuka rakes the eyes and tags Muraco. Muraco hits the tombstone piledriver and press slams Snuka and drops him into a headbutt. Snuka covers and gets the win for his team at 3.01.

Jay Sulli is in the locker room and he brings us footage from last week of what went down between Heavyweight Champion Sandman, Rockin’ Rebel and Peaches.

Heavyweight Champion Sandman (w/ Peaches) vs. Rockin’ Rebel (w/ Tigra), ref John Finnegan
We are joined in progress on this one. Rebel has a headlock on Sandman and he hits a shoulder block. Sandman gets up and hits a body slam and arm drag into an arm bar. Rebel blocks a hip toss and hits a clothesline. Rebel hits the ropes and nails another one. Rebel chokes Sandman on the ropes and distracts the ref so Tigra can get in on the action. Rebel hits another clothesline and leg drop for 2. Tigra claws Sandman’s eyes behind the refs back. Sandman gets a small package but only a 1 count and he eats a clothesline when he gets up. Corner whip and Rebel charges twice but Sandman gets his knees up each time. Sandman comes out of the corner with a bulldog and hits a top rope dropkick. Tigra comes in the ring and attacks the champion causing a DQ. 4.11 is shown. After the match there is a bit of a scuffle between the girls and Sandman hits Rebel with the belt.

We get a highlights package of the ECW TV Title Tournament. We return to ringside and Jay Sulli is with Hunter Q. Robbins III. A return match has been signed for the tag titles. Robbins says that next week is the last chance for Winters and Stetson. Sulli runs down next weeks card which includes the previous mentioned tag match and Sandman defending his title.

My thoughts on the show
There’s really nothing at all that “needs” to be seen on this weeks episode. The debut of a new tag team in the Suicide Blondes as they start off with a nice win and pretty funny promo to begin their run. But overall, this was my least favorite episode so far.

Thanks to Andrea and Alex for the following WWE SmackDown spoilers from tonight’s tapings in Ottawa:

* Lilian Garcia comes out to sing the Canadian National Anthem to kick off SmackDown.

* Lana and Rusev open SmackDown by coming to the ring for an anti-Canadian promo. Roman Reigns comes through the crowd to a big pop. Reigns cuts a promo and says he won’t be crushed. Lana says Reigns should be afraid. Reigns says, “you’re telling ME to be afraid?!” Things get heated but referees get in between them before they start fighting. Lana backs Rusev off.

* Cameron vs. AJ Lee is next. Cameron tries to walk out but Naomi comes from behind and throws her back in the ring. AJ gets the win with a Shining Wizard. Naomi and Cameron have a staredown.

* Renee Young interviews Randy Orton. Orton says he doesn’t care what Roman Reigns thinks and all he thinks about is what’s best for business. Orton says he’s going to introduce Chris Jericho to the Legend Killer tonight.

* Adam Rose comes out with Summer Rae. Rose vs. Fandango is next. Layla and Summer start fighting outside of the ring as soon as the match starts. Fandango eventually goes to split them up but gets counted out. Fandango argues with the referee as Rose celebrates. Rose comes from behind and hits the Party Foul.

* Heath Slater comes out next to a pop and Titus O’Neil joins him. WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos are out next for a non-title match. The Usos get an easy win. Byron Saxton interviews The Usos in the ring. Our correspondent said it was a very boring try at comedy by The Usos.

* Chris Jericho comes out to a big pop. After his entrance, Bray Wyatt appears on the big screen and gets a “whole world in his hand” chant going. Randy Orton is out next. This was described as a really entertaining match. The match ends when Jericho hits the Lionsault and as he’s pinning Orton, the Wyatt Family graphic flashes on the big screen. Orton takes advantage of Jericho being distracted and hits a RKO for the win.

* Layla vs. Summer Rae with Fandango as special referee, a rematch from Money In the Bank is next. Summer kisses Fandango and then Layla does, causing Fandango to dance. Fans hum Fandango’s theme and he keeps dancing. Summer and Layla both attack Fandango. The segment ends with Fandango sitting on the stage in disbelief as Layla and Summer have apparently decided to team up now. They show off and dance.

* Goldust defeated Ryback. Curtis Axel and Stardust were at ringside. Stardust got reactions from the crowd throughout the match. Ryback attacks Goldust after the match and as he’s about to hit Shellshocked, Stardust blows the gold dust in in Ryback’s face.

* Bo Dallas vs. Diego and El Torito in a Handicap Match is next. Bo pins Diego for the win and then attacks Torito, laying him out with a running Bo-dog.

* Rusev vs. Roman Reigns is the main event, said to be a pretty good match. Rusev dominated most of the match. Reigns hit the Superman punch and was about to hit the spear but Randy Orton attacked from behind, causing the match to end in a disqualification. Rusev hits his superkick on Reigns and is about to crush him when Lana stops him and they leave. Orton waits for Reigns to get up and hits the RKO. Orton goes to spear Reigns but Reigns gets up and spears him first to end SmackDown.

Jim Ross Blog: Bryan’s Injuries, Sting, Roman Reigns, More

Source: JR’s BBQ

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with a new blog on jrsbarbq.com. As always, you can purchase JR’s BBQ products on WWEshop.com. Here are some highlights from this entry:

– Wanted to mention last week that I really enjoyed the @GailKimITSME vs. Angela Love match last Thursday on @ImpactWrestlilng on @SpikeTV. The ladies worked hard, I knew who the villain and the heroine were, and they had the time to tell a viable story. This stuff isn’t rocket science folks. However, we seem to be living in an age where pro wrestling is more ‘over thought’ these days than ever before and we can all see the results of that mindset.

– Not sure what to believe or not to believe regarding the physical status of Daniel Bryan but most of what I’m reading isn’t positive. Often times a surgery will reveal other issues and it seems that may have been the case here. The bottom line to this entire matter is to get Bryan healthy and, above all else, not to rush him back into the ring. I feel confident that WWE would never allow this to occur but certainly in the territory days of years gone by promoters would want the talents to get back in the ring ASAP. Plus, the talents themselves would push the envelope because most of them did not have guaranteed contracts and if they did not work they did not get paid notwithstanding they paid their own medical bills. Times have changed much for the better in those areas.

– With Bryan out TFN, it’s also imperative that WWE be cautious in how they market, promote and build Roman Reigns. Overexposure can result in a backlash neither of which the WWE or Reigns needs at this point in his development. Does Roman Reigns or any other WWE talent need to be on virtually every TV show that is produced such as RAW and Smackdown? Absolutely, not.

– Lots of @Sting speculation as to what 7-14-14 means but to spill the beans, if I knew, would be to spoil a cool surprise. Needless to say, I’d suggest, without leading anyone astray, that watching RAW Monday night would be judicious.

* Austin Aries defeated Sanada to become the new X Division Champion.

* Gail Kim retained her title over Madison Rayne, Angelina Love and Brittany in a Fatal 4 Way.

Kurt Angle Responds To Rumors That Photos Of Him Were Passed Around WWE Recently

0

There were rumors online this week that photos of Kurt Angle passed out on an airplane had been circulated backstage in WWE and at a recent creative meeting at SmackDown. Angle went on Twitter and addressed those rumors:

“Rumors are the root of evil. The truth will endure. Here is the truth!”

“I’m excited to say I’m coming up on My 1 year anniversary of being clean and sober. Im Very Humbled. GOD has truly Blessed Me. It’s been a difficult but exciting road to living alcohol/drug free. Then some heartless individuals want to create rumors of Me “passed out” on a plane. Wow! I guess You can’t take a nap on a plane when Youre a recovering addict. But it only makes Me want to stay clean even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

A more updated report confirmed these images of Angle, it’s said he was most likely sleeping rather than “passed out”, but it’s also said the pictures didn’t do Kurt Angle much help in a return to WWE.
