How Did Bobby Lashley Fare In His Bellator MMA Debut Fight?

0

– TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley made a triumphant return to the cage in his Bellator MMA debut tonight. Lashley dominated Josh Burns before submitting him in the second round.

Lashley took Burns down early in the first round, and spent the rest of the frame trying to secure a keylock or kimura submission.

Lashley peppered Burns with jabs early in the second round before taking Burns to the ground and hammering him with shots. As Burns tried to make his way to his feet, Lashley secured a rear naked choke to win the fight via submission with 1:06 left in the second round.

“I wanted to do more with my striking, but I always gotta go to my go-to (wrestling),” Lashley said after the fight. “I’ve gotta keep moving forward, I had a pretty good camp this time. There’s no time off, I’m going right back into camp. I’ve got some big training camps coming up, so I’m just going to keep going and seeing what Bellator hands me next.”

With the victory, Lashley improves his MMA record to 11-2, while Burns falls to 8-8.

– King Mo made it 2-0 for TNA-contracted talent in action at tonight’s Bellator MMA event. Like TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley, the sometimes-TNA star finished his opponent, Dustin Jacoby, in the second round. Mo dominated the fight before hammering away at Jacoby on the ground, prompting the referee to stop the fight via TKO at 1:13 in Round 2.

“Let me give a quick shoutout to [Scott] Coker, the Bellator staff, Viacom, Spike TV, TNA Wrestling and my boy Larry Holmes,” Mo said after the fight. When asked what was next, Mo replied, “it’s up to Bellator. I fight at moneyweight… 185, 205, heavyweight, wherever the money’s at, that’s where I’ll be.”

Kevin Nash On Why Triple H Doesn’t Want To Bring Outside Talent Into WWE

0

Source: The Miami Herald

Jim Varsallone of The Miami Herald has an article here looking at the WWE Performance Center following its one year anniversary. Varsallone noted how the facility was Triple H’s vision, and Kevin Nash talked about how it happened.

“It’s amazing. When [Triple H] first got into the office, we sat down, and he kind of gave me his vision, what he wanted to do,” Nash said in the article. “[Triple H] said the biggest problem we’re going to have moving forward is. Talent is always going to be. It’s a talent driven entity. We’re going to produce our own talent. We’re not gonna bring in talent from other places who have bad habits and have to correct them. We’re gonna build an actual productive farm team. Then he said the NXT arena will look just like a miniature Raw, so when they walk down that ramp… because that’s really what you see. You see the ring, the barricade around you, and when you’re in the ring, maybe 50 rows of people. Where you see the vastness is when you come out at WrestleMania; your walk to the ring. Once you get in the ring, it becomes a very intimate experience, and Paul’s recreated that to a tee.”

Nash also noted that many members of the production crew will be winding down their careers at some point, and the Performance Center is helping create talent that will “refurbish” the production crew. He also talked about the company offering scholarships and building a safe ring in the facility so talent can practice high risk maneuvers.

Update On If WWE SmackDown Is Moving To Thursdays

0

We posted last month that SmackDown will be officially moving to Thursday nights on Syfy starting on October 2nd. Syfy has SmackDown on their schedule on Thursdays from 8pm – 10pm, followed by Haven at 10pm.
A press releases was issued stating that Haven has been moved to Thursdays at 8pm ET/PT, followed by Spartacus: Gods of the Arena at 9pm and 10pm ET/PT, which would have been the new SmackDown time slot.

It should be noted that Syfy still has SmackDown on Thursday nights on their schedule on their official site starting October 2nd. Syfy lists SmackDown on Fridays followed by “Z Nation” through the end of this month only.

We hope to have more shortly.

War Machine Faces Life In Prison, Charges Against Former UFC Headliner Dropped, More

0

– Jon Koppenhaver, who legally changed his name to War Machine, faces the likelihood of life in prison for his role in the alleged assault of his former girlfriend, adult film actress Christy Mack. Koppenhaver appeared in a Las Vegas court earlier this week and faces 32 felony counts.

Koppenhaver, a former UFC and Bellator fighter, is accused of beating Mack and a male friend earlier this year. He faces battery by strangulation, sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary and several other charges.

During his MMA career, Koppenhaver went 14-5. He spent a year in prison for a previous assault charge that was brought up against him.

– Former UFC fighter Thiago Silva has escaped any further punishment for his involvement in an alleged assault earlier this year. Silva, who faced two counts of aggravated assault, saw the charges disappear from a Florida judge.

“All charges against Thiago Silva were dropped,” Broward County State Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Kim Fontana told TMZ Sports recently. “The victim was uncooperative and investigators determined that she likely has moved out of the country.”

UFC officials cut Silva from the active roster hours after the incident went down involving the fighter, his estranged wife and a local BJJ instructor.

– The UFC wants to pair Tyron Woodley with Hector Lombard in a battle of Top-10 welterweights. Lombard is down for it, but Woodley appears hesitant. The two are American Top Team teammates, but train at different gyms.

According to a report on “UFC Tonight” recently, plans were in the works for Lombard and Woodley to square off on November 8 from Australia. Woodley earned a win recently over Dong Hyun Kim in China.

TNA Flopped For Being ‘WWE-Lite,’ King Mo On Pro Wrestling vs. MMA

0

Two TNA stars will be in action at tonight’s Bellator MMA event, which will air live on Spike TV at 8pm ET. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will face Dustin Jacoby in a light heavyweight bout, while TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley will battle Josh Burns in a heavyweight fight.

We noted earlier that the Associated Press has an article about Lashley and King Mo appearing at the show. In the story, King Mo said that he will wrestle more if he has time.

“I’m focused on fighting right now. But if I have time to wrestle, I will,” Lawal said. “Pro wrestling is easier on the body, man. Pro wrestling is more fun.”

When noting that Bellator had signed several former UFC big name stars, the article stated that TNA “flopped” when it tried to become more like WWE and signed several former WWE stars:

TNA morphed into WWE-lite for a spell, believing signing castoffs like Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Mick Foley and Kevin Nash would boost ratings and give the second-tier organization some needed credibility. It’s now at a crossroads with its TV deal in limbo and no domestic live events scheduled after Sep. 19.

Champions
Heavyweight: “Fabulous” Shane Douglas
TV: Terry Funk
Tag: Tony “Hitman” Stetson & Johnny Hotbody

We open up with Paul E. Dangerously in the ring he is ready to announce the all new Dangerous Alliance but first we go to the opening video.

We get a run-down of what’s on tonight’s show.

Public Enemy vs. Badd Company ref John Finnegan
Well instead of the rest of the interview we go to our first match. Paul Diamond and Johnny Grunge start off. Grunge with the early advantage but Diamond comes back with a drop kick, hip toss, and flying back elbow. Grunge bails to the floor as we go to commercial break. Back from break and Rocco Roc is coming into the ring and Pat Tanaka also gets tagged in. They go back a forth a little until Roc goes for a leap frog but is caught midair into a sit out powerbomb by Tanaka for 2. Both men tag out. Diamond comes in and takes over on Grunge with a spin kick in the corner. Diamond works over the arm and hits a DDT. Roc breaks up the pin attempt. Tanaka tagged back in. Tanaka uses some karate moves and then Diamond is tagged back in. Grunge slams Diamond and hits a Vaderbomb off the second rope. Roc tagged in and he goes to work on the knee of Diamond. PE make a few tags continuing to work the leg. PE ends up having a miscue that leads to them crashing together. Diamond makes the tag and Tanaka comes in and takes out both his opponents. They hit the leapfrog guillotine on Roc and Diamond gets the belly to back but Grunge breaks it up. Diamond goes for another belly to back but Roc flips out. Roc pushes Diamond towards the ropes to roll him. Grunge is on the apron and swings at Diamond but he ducks and Roc gets nailed. Diamond covers and gets the win for Badd Company in 13.05.

A video package of Sal Bellomo playing with his own kids in the park airs with Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven playing over it.

“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka vs. Chad Austin ref Jim Molineaux
Snuka beats on Austin, doing nothing worth typing here, and pins him 3 minutes after a sling shot suplex.

Jay Sulli is in the ECW Control Center to bring us a special report and he brings us to the Dangerous Alliance promo. Paul E. announces Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas as the first member of the new Alliance and dubs him “The Franchise”. Paul E. brings out the new Director of Operations Sherri Martel. Paul E. brings out Douglas’ bodyguard Sabu. Shane is not happy with this decision and they begin to argue. Sherri gets in his Paul’s face and they all argue a bit. Paul calls Sherri a broad and that sets her off. He goes to the floor and tries to calm down Sabu who is still strapped to his cart. Matty in the House has his own personal camera backstage now at the Dangerous Alliance dressing room and Willie “Scoop” Watts is going to try and get an interview. Lots of noise is coming from behind the door. Watts opens the door a bit and there doesn’t seem to be any lights on. He quickly closes the door and says he can’t go in for his own personal health.

Matty is in the House again and is in the dressing room with new manager Jason Knight. Jason tells Matty to please only call him Jason. Matty wants to know whom Jason will be managing but Jason just talks about himself and his clothes.

ECW Tag Team Champions Johnny Hotbody & Tony “Hitman” Stetson (w/ Hunter Q. Robbins III) vs. JT Smith & Sandman (w/ Terry Funk), ref John Finnegan
Sandman starts off with Stetson. Sandman gets two quick pin attempts. The champs quickly cheat and use double team tactics to take control of the match. Sandman hits a crossbody on both guess for 2 and then tags to Smith. Stetson goes after the still injured knee of Smith for a bit. Smith makes the tag and rolls to the floor with Funk. Sandman gets backdropped out of the ring onto both Smith and Funk. Sandman puts on the sleeper on Hotbody. Funk comes in and smacks Sandman with a chair causing a DQ in 4.15. Smith tries to explain that it was an accident as Funk slaps Sandman a few times.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Tazmaniac, ref John Finnegan
Tazmaniac tries to attack before hand but gets hip tossed and body slammed. Joey calls Tazmaniac a “little gremlin” and it has me cracking up. Dreamer is in blue pants and yellow suspenders and in nice shape. Tazmaniac with a t-bone suplex to take over on Dreamer. Tazmaniac stays on Tommy Dreamer comes back with a crossbody. Tazmaniac goes for a backdrop but Tommy grabs on for a DDT. Tazmaniac reverses that with a release northern lights. Dreamer comes back with a bulldog but then misses and elbow. They go to the floor where Taz uses a chair. Dreamer comes back and uses it himself and then hits a DDT on the floor. Back in the ring Dreamer with an enzuigiri for 2. Slam by Dreamer and he goes up top but Taz knocks him down. Tazmaniac with a super northern lights for the win at 6.40. Dreamer gets a few claps after the match and Joey hypes is like they gave him a standing ovation playing up on the fact that Dreamer is a “pretty boy” and the Philly fans are hardcore.

My thoughts on the show…
A pretty good episode this week. A nice long opening tag match, a good main event, and of course Paul E gets back into the action with the Dangerous Alliance making its return.

TV 1993-11-02 (Matches taped Bloodfest Day 2 1993-10-02 from ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA)

Champions
Heavyweight: “The Franchise” Shane Douglas
TV: Terry Funk
Tag: Tony “Hitman” Stetson & Johnny Hotbody

*Note: This episode was supposed to air on 10-26 but due to technical difficulties did not. So on 11-2 ECW aired two episodes back to back.

Joey Styles opens the show from the Eagle’s nest and runs down the card for tonight and hypes the ‘November to Remember’ card. “Ironman” Tommy Cairo has a shoot fight against Kevin Sullivan. Sullivan is sitting in a lifeguard chair and he talks about his cage match against Abdullah the Butcher that took place at Bloodfest. We see some of that match as well as he match against Gino Caruso from the same day. Sabu and Hawk take on Terry Funk and a partner of his choice. The Tag Team Titles are also on the line. A rematch of last week’s main event between Tommy Dreamer and Tazmaniac has just been added. Johnny Gunn takes on Mr. Hughes. Hughes is in the locker room. Hughes talks about some of his past exploits in the WCW and WWF. Hughes says Gunn will not get up out of the ring.

Bad Breed vs. Don E. Allen & Chad Austin, ref Jim Molineaux
Allen and Axl Rotten start off. Axl beats on Allen and then tags off to Ian Rotten. Ian with a full nelson suplex and then he allows Allen to make a tag. Austin comes in and hits a drop kick but gets caught after attempting a top rope crossbody. Ian runs with him and slams him into the corner and throws him out of the ring. Ian comes off the apron with a clothesline to the floor and tags Axl back in. Axl comes off the second rope with a spin kick. Ian with a double underhook DDT and Axl comes off the top with a elbow drop. Ian goes up and Axl launches him off the top and Bad Breed pick up the victory in 3.28

Jason is backstage and he lets us know that he has been scouting the best talent in the world. They show a clip of him talking with Hunter Q. Robbins III about taking over the contract of Tony “Hitman” Stetson and Johnny Hotbody. He then tries to talk to Sandman and Peaches but gets kicked out of their locker room. He gives Angel his card and she asks him if she has money. Pretty sure she just offered him sex. He goes to Mr. Hughes who also immediately asks him if he has money. Maybe for the same reason that Angel did? Warlord is next and he just tells Jason to leave him alone. Jason drives off with Angel in his car.

Rockin’ Rebel vs. Chris Michaels, ref Jim Molineaux
Match is joined in progress as Rebel clotheslines Michaels on the floor. In the ring he hits a DDT and piledriver. Rebel refuses to make the pin and brings a chair into the ring. Rebel throws the ref to the ground and goes to hit Michaels with it but stops for some reason and then Sal Bellomo shows up and chases him away. Joey is very excited to see Sal back as we go to commercial.

Back from break we go to Joey in the Eagle’s nest and he is still super excited with a giant smile on his face and is shaking with excitement as they go to another commercial

Back to Joey and he brings as back to some of the recent activities of JT Smith. We also see clips from the Dangerous Alliance formation and break up. Paul E. is in the locker room and he talks about the Blue Jays beating the Phillies in the World Series. He then goes on to talk trash about Sherri and Heavyweight Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas. He says that they are not out of the Dangerous Alliance but are on probation and they just have to beg to be leg back in. Paul then goes to talking about the tag team match at November to Remember. Paul does a great Terry Funk impression and says that they are going to talk the TV title from Funk.

Tod Gordon is at ECW Headquarters. Gordon says that Sal Bellomo has not passed his medical test and has not been given permission to wrestle by the athletic commission. However he is allowing a unsanctioned chair match at November to Remember.

Badd Company vs. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka & “Magnificent” Don Muraco, John Finnegan
The Public Enemy attack Badd Company with chairs in the aisle way before the match even starts. Bad Breed show up and attack PE and they fight into the back. Snuka and Muraco are awarded the match by forfeit. Afterwards they show a replay of the entire thing.

Matty is in the House and he’s not sorry if tonight’s show offended anyone.

Public Enemy are hanging out in the streets and they are talking about Badd Company and how they are going to win the war between the two teams.

Joey talks about something that happened between Sherri and Madusa at a convention last week and we see some stills. The two women will go at it at November to Remember.

Heavyweight Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas (w/ Sherri Martel) vs. JT Smith (w/ Terry Funk), ref Jim Molineaux
Douglas goes after the knee to start the match. Smith tries to fight back with some headbutts but Douglas cuts him off and goes back to the knee. Douglas locks in a figure four and Funk throws in the towel. Smith catches it and throws it back in Funk’s face but its to late and Douglas retains at 3.42. Afterwards Funk gets in the ring and starts slapping Smith with the towel. Funk takes off his boot and starts beating on Smith with it.

My thoughts on the show…

Not too much interesting going on with tonight’s show besides the Funk heel turn. Don’t bother with this one as there is nothing worth seeing, thumbs down.
