News On The Rock Possibly Working WrestleMania 31, WWE PPV Announcement Expected

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– It appears that there is a very good chance now of The Rock working with WWE for WrestleMania 31 but one of the main problems will be pressure from movie studios. Rock suffered injuries in his first and second matches with John Cena, the second requiring surgery and holding up the filming of Hercules. We’ve seen The Rock pick up a number of new movies recently and studios that may want Rock for big projects in the spring or summer won’t be happy if he wrestles at WrestleMania 31 due to the risk of injury.

– We noted before that WWE will be taking SummerSlam from Los Angeles to the New York market in 2015. It’s expected that WWE will announce a major pay-per-view for a future date in Los Angeles during the December 30th live event at the Staples Center.

Smackdown Match Re-Taped, Plus Kane Injured?

– A Kofi Kingston vs. Seth Rollins match will air on this Friday’s SmackDown and the match had to be re-taped later on towards the end of the show. Apparently the finish of both matches was botched some. The second match went a few minutes longer than the first match. This may be just for this week’s SmackDown but The Authority’s new “stooges” Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble were in Rollins’ corner to keep watch for Dean Ambrose.

– There was some speculation about Kane being injured after reports from all three WWE live events last weekend noted that he did very little in the ring. Kane appeared to be fine on this week’s RAW and our correspondents at SmackDown did not notice any problems with him.

Why Spike TV Is Dropping TNA, Another Issue With TV Negotiations

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Regarding TNA’s ongoing TV negotiations, networks are leery on the TNA product not just because it’s pro wrestling but because it has the negative stigma of being a product that Spike TV dropped, even when the ratings weren’t that bad.

It was said that networks are wondering what is the catch and why would Spike drop a program that was drawing between 1 million and 1.4 million viewers each week. The Wrestling Observer noted that word from the TV industry is that Spike is dropping TNA because they don’t have the confidence in TNA’s leadership to grow the company.

In addition to that, numbers had been declining and the whole Vince Russo debacle was once again brought up this week. Spike denies the Russo issue publicly but it’s no secret that Russo was a big part in Spike finalizing their decision.

TNA Officials Reportedly Deny Story On Making Offer To CM Punk, More On Punk At OVW Event

0

– We noted earlier, via The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that TNA officials had reached out to CM Punk through an intermediary and made a major offer for him to come to the company.

For what it’s worth, PWInsider reports that TNA sources they spoke to say there is no truth to the report on Punk. One commented, “No offer was made, officially or via an intermediary – no truth to that rumor.”

They also confirm the report from a Reddit user earlier this week that while Punk was in attendance for the Ohio Valley Wrestling event over the weekend, he was never in the locker room. Punk arrived earlier in the day and went right into OVW owner Danny Davis’ office.

WWE Teasing WrestleMania 31 Main Event, Main Mania Matches Being FInalized

As noted in Smackdown spoilers, there will be a backstage segment with The Rock, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon on this Friday’s SmackDown. A match between Triple H and The Rock was teased in that segment and at least one other time during the tapings.
The tease was for a potential WrestleMania 31 match between the two. Rock vs. Triple H was discussed at one point for WrestleMania XXX but obviously didn’t happen.

The backstage segment that airs on Friday’s SmackDown shows the two going back and forth over who would win if they wrestled again and the two taking shots at each other. Rock actually brought up the main event of WrestleMania 31 and WWE usually doesn’t tease something in that direction if it’s not in the plans.

WWE has reportedly been working on finalizing WrestleMania plans this week and those plans include two special stars, likely The Rock and Sting.
There is no word yet on who may face Sting but as noted earlier, it appears WWE is building to The Rock vs. Triple H. Triple H was Sting’s second choice for a match if he couldn’t have The Undertaker.

The belief is still that Brock Lesnar will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31. Another match that has been discussed is John Cena vs. Rusev.

It’s still early and plans always change but you have to wonder where top stars like Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton and others will fit into the plans.

TNA Makes Play For CM Punk, WWE Upset With Rey Mysterio, Jericho’s Return, More

– TNA recently made a play for CM Punk.

This was done similar to how they reached out to Alberto Del Rio, through an intermediary who is friends with Punk. The idea pitched was said to be a huge deal for Punk to be the top star of the company with pay similar to what Hulk Hogan was making. The idea is that Punk could be TNA’s flagship star and if he signs now, he could help get a strong TV deal. Punk reportedly expressed no interest in working in pro wrestling again.

– Due to WWE’s roster depth issues, Chris Jericho will indeed be making a quick return on next month’s European tour. He’s not scheduled for RAW but will be working six dates from November 10th through November 15th. It appears he will be working the SmackDown tapings that week.

– Randy Orton apparently has a new agreement with WWE where he’s not working full-time on the road for weekend live events anymore.

– As noted, Rey Mysterio was backstage at recent AAA Lucha Underground tapings in Los Angeles. WWE officials were not happy when photos of Rey backstage and then later at a dinner with some people from the promotion popped up on social media. Those photos were quickly deleted. No word yet if anything will come out of this latest incident but Rey is still under contract with WWE.

Brock Lesnar Royal Rumble Opponent, Lana Goes Off, Chris Jericho, More

– It was previously reported that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar may return for a quick feud with Big Show but apparently that’s not happening. Lesnar is not scheduled to return until January to begin promoting his Royal Rumble title defense, likely against John Cena. We noted before that Cena may face Rusev at WrestleMania 31 and this would be a good set-up for Rusev to cost Cena the match.

– The top sellers for WWE merchandise at last month’s live events were, in order, John Cena, Roman Reigns, The Usos, The Wyatt Family, Brock Lesnar, Sting, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose and Hulk Hogan. Cena is beating everyone else by a long shot. There’s a feeling that live event merchandise sales better reflects who should be pushed because the purchases are made by more casual fans and more merchandise is sold at arenas than on the internet.

– A fan on Twitter posted a photo of an 8×10 signed Lana photo that he received in the mail from UK-based merchandise site Retrowrestling.com. Lana replied and said that she did not sign the 8×10. She then tweeted the following about the photo, which was deleted by the fan:
“This is why I do not sign autographs. So they can fake it & sell it online & make a profit it off of my labor.NO!I only sign @WWE meet&greet”

– Chris Jericho revealed on Instagram that Nunzio’s Kitchen pizza shop in Sayreville, New Jersey has an official Fozzy Pizza. It’s #99 on the menu. Jericho called it the best pizza in America.

– Part of the WWE roster is arriving in Malaysia this morning for events in Kuala Lumpur this Friday and Saturday at the Putra Indoor Stadium. Talents advertised include John Cena, Seth Rollins, Big Show, The Wyatt Family, Sheamus, The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Paige and AJ Lee. Cena tweeted the following about the tour:

“Time to hit up another timezone. Kuala Lumpur with #WWE Live for a couple days. #WWE #NeverGiveUp #WWEMalaysia”

Bull Ray Teases Going After “Other” Tag Titles, Dolph Ziggler IC Title Update

0

– WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler indicated on Wednesday that United Airlines still has not returned his luggage, including his title belt. Dolph tweeted the following:

“update: still no bag or contact. bought new clothes & supplies just to go to work! lose my number @united #PRAYFORDOLPHsbag”

– Bully Ray had been hyping a major announcement on Twitter before tonight’s episode of TNA Impact Wrestling. He just posted the following teaser:

“Despite not winning tonight, me and @TestifyDevon #Team3D have decided to go after 1 of our other favorite sets of Tag titles…stay tuned.”
