Reason Why ‘A New Day’ Was Delayed, Booker T, Bill Apter Writing a Book

0

– A source told Wrestling Inc that the reason the “A New Day” faction featuring Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E was delayed was due to both the Ferguson, Missouri situation being all over the news, as well as Alberto Del Rio’s controversial exit from the company. WWE felt as if having something that could be construed as a racially motivated story line was inappropriate and wasn’t in anyone’s best interest at the time.

The source also stated that there was “more than meets the eye” to the recent vignettes, but refused to elaborate further.

– Booker T announced on his Youtube channel that he’ll be running a fantasy camp on December 20. For more information you can go to Reality of Wrestling’s website.

– Legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter was on Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast this week and announced he completed work on a book about his experiences in wrestling. He finished the book in September, and is set for a fall 2015 release through ECW Press.

As of now, Sting is only scheduled for the pay-per-view and not this week’s TV tapings.

News On TNA’s Talks With Spike, What Josh Mathews Is Working On, TNA Live Events

0

Source: PWInsider

– The negotiations between Spike TV and TNA reportedly ended about 2-3 weeks ago. The two sides were in discussions for TNA to sign a “lesser deal” as Spike wanted to pay TNA less for the programming they had. Despite TNA failing to hit the 2 million viewer mark for Impact Wrestling that was agreed on when they signed a deal in 2010, there was still some interest from Spike in maintaining the relationship.

– Regarding TNA live events, there’s a feeling that touring can’t support TNA financially like they need it to so the schedule will likely remain light for now.

– We’ve noted that there will be another big reboot for TNA when they premiere with Destination America in January. They are also working on overhauling the TNA website. Former WWE announcer Josh Mathews is leading that project.

Reliving a Feud – Issue #6: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle

0

Relive the feud between WWF World Champion Steve Austin and Kurt Angle that lasted from July 2001 to December 2001…

At WrestleMania XVII Steve Austin aligned himself with longtime enemy Vince McMahon to win the WWF World Championship. Austin would also become partners with hated rival Triple H the following night. However, Triple H would go down with an injury and Austin would become closer with McMahon. Their relationship would begin to strain when Kurt Angle entered into the picture. Angle would try several times to lighten up the mood using comedy with the always angry Steve Austin. Angle’s attempts would be humorous in nature and it looked like he was getting closer to McMahon himself, which didn’t sit well with Austin at all. Austin and Angle would then begin to compete for the attention of McMahon in many memorable comedy segments, and otherwise.

By the summer of 2001 the defunct wrestling promotions known as WCW and ECW started to invade the WWF. This would lead to several top WWF names trying to combat members of the WCW and ECW roster in a ten-man tag match at the Invasion PPV in July 2001.

Steve Austin was the captain for Team WWF along with Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, the Undertaker and Kane. They competed against Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Rhyno and the Dudley Boys. The match seemed to be in favor of the WWF until Steve Austin attacked Angle and hit the Stunner on him costing Team WWF the victory. The Alliance won the match and Steve Austin had joined the invaders. The move instantly switched the previously heel Kurt Angle into the top babyface for the WWF.

Jealously got to Steve Austin and he believed that Vince McMahon cared about Kurt Angle and the Rock more than him. So, Austin switched to a team that he knew would care about him the most. On the July 23rd edition of RAW, Austin would cost Angle a tables match by hitting a Stunner that allowed Bubba Dudley to hit a powerbomb through a table for the win.

Kurt Angle would win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on the July 26th edition of Smackdown by making Booker T tap out to the ankle lock. Steve Austin was confident that Angle would fail, but now the Olympic Hero was coming for the WWF World Champion Rattlesnake! Angle’s reign was short lived, though. Booker T regained the championship on July 30th on RAW when Austin hit the Stunner on Angle during a no disqualification match to help Booker regain the title.

For the next couple of weeks both Angle and Austin would trade attacks and both men believed they were going to leave SummerSlam as the WWF World Champion. Kurt Angle would win at SummerSlam, but not the WWF World Championship. Austin bloodied Angle and sent him into the ring post head and shoulder first several times. Alliance referee Nick Patrick came out to count a pin fall for Angle after Austin had attacked referee’s prior. Patrick stopped his count and disqualified Austin for his actions. Angle won, but Austin walked out as the WWF World Champion.

The next night on RAW the Alliance held an appreciation ceremony for their “hero”, WWF World Champion Steve Austin. The segment was going well with the Alliance members loving all over Austin. Well, it didn’t end the way the Alliance had wished. Playing off a prior angle with Austin and a Beer Truck, Angle would come out at the end of the segment with a milk truck and he sprayed everyone in the ring with the white stuff!

GOT MILK? Cue Up This Memorable Segment Below At 1:40

On August 27th edition of RAW, Austin would hit Angle with the WWF World Championship and steal his gold medals after Angle won a tag team match with Jericho against Tazz and Rob Van Dam. On Smackdown three days later, Austin nearly ran Angle over with his car and continued to taunt Angle by flaunting his gold medals. At the end of the show, Austin put the gold medals on a cinder block and tossed the block over the side of a bridge causing the medals to sink to the bottom.

In an act of revenge, Angle attacked Austin on the September 3rd edition of RAW and drove off with Austin in the trunk of his truck with a cinder block and chain. Angle forced Austin to cry to prevent himself from being tossed over a bridge. Austin cried and would agree to a WWF World Championship match at Unforgiven. Angle got the last laugh by shoving Austin into a kiddie pool.

Angle also cost Austin a match the next night on Smackdown by distracting the champ long enough for Rob Van Dam to earn a pin fall over Austin.

The sadistic Austin showed just how nuts he was when he shoved Angle off the side of the entrance ramp on the September 10th edition of RAW. Angle recovered from the fall and would pin Austin the next week on RAW after an Angle Slam. It wouldn’t end there though as Austin would viciously attack Angle on the September 20th edition of Smackdown by hitting the challenger with a steel chair and hitting a piledriver twice on the concrete floor. Angle returned from the hospital and told Austin that he is a desperate man and he will win the WWF World Championship at Unforgiven!

Per his promise, Kurt Angle would finally win the WWF World Championship at Unforgiven by submission, but Austin had his hand under the bottom rope, so the win was tainted and the former champion would demand a rematch with Angle. Their rematch would happen on the October 8th edition of RAW. Angle’s reign would prove to be short lived as William Regal would turn his back on the WWF and cost Angle the championship.

Austin and Angle would compete again at No Mercy 2001 with Rob Van Dam also involved in a triple threat match. Angle appeared to be set to regain the championship but Austin hit RVD with a Stunner and retained the WWF World Championship.

In a shocking turn of events, Angle would turn on the WWF and join the Alliance on October 29th by costing Vince McMahon a match against his son Shane McMahon. Angle had spent the past few months embroiled in a bloody feud with Austin only to join his side at the end.

Or, did he? It ended up being a swerve by Angle. At the Survivor Series on November 18th, Angle would turn on Austin and cost the Alliance the elimination match, meaning the Alliance had to disband and everyone involved was “fired”. Angle would remain a heel afterward claiming he was the sole reason for the Alliance crumbling. Austin would become a babyface again and pinned Kurt Angle at Vengeance 2001.  Stone Cold would go on to lose to Chris Jericho and fail to become the Undisputed Champion to put an end to the feud for 2001.

As you can see this feud was filled with memorable events. It started off with Austin turning on the WWF and Angle becoming the top babyface (at least before Rock came back) and the events that followed really made the feud red hot. The match at SummerSlam 2001 is really great and I remember watching that as a twelve year old thinking that Angle had no chance after being so bloodied. I was in utter shock when Angle kept kicking out of Stunners.

I was really pissed when Nick Patrick screwed Angle. But, that’s all in the past, though I have never forgiven Patrick for that. The way Angle went about to get a rematch was great. They could’ve had Angle just win a gauntlet or something, but they really made it seem important by having Angle abduct Austin and embarrass him until he got a rematch.

Now, the negative about this feud is what happened at Unforgiven. Angle’s big moment of victory was tainted and wasn’t that feel good moment. Anyone who watched that match as it happened should’ve felt deflated knowing it wasn’t going to last. I know I did. It was too bad that Angle didn’t get a longer run with the gold, but maybe he would’ve if the Invasion was booked to last longer than a handful of months.

For as hot as the feud was at the start, it quickly lost steam. Angle loses the belt less than a month after winning and then he joins the side of the Alliance anyway. Yeah, it was a swerve but it wasn’t needed. It just didn’t fit well with anything that was going on. Personally, Big Show should’ve been the guy to turn and join the Alliance and it would have been fine.

Overall, the stuff from July to early October saw some classic moments and the matches were done very well. Naturally, the feud became watered down and some of the decisions were just idiotic looking back at it, in my opinion. Nonetheless, I consider the feud to be a really good feud and something people should look back at and enjoy.

What are your opinions on the feud? Feel free to share your comments below.

But as far as I know, that’s ALL there is to it, BUT, if the authority loses this Sunday at #SurvivorSeries, it does seem like there will be a shift in power – and possibly a new GM.”

Steve Corino hypes his match with Terry Funk coming up and talks about all the things he’s been talking about the past weeks.

Joey brings us to our main event! Vampiro was unsuccessful in his attempt to beat Satoshi Kojima for the MLW Championship in a hard fought match. Kojima used the ace crusher and lariat to retain the title. After the match Mike Awesome power bombed Kojima through a table.

We get a video package highlighting the card for this Friday night.

My thoughts on the show…
Nothing stands out as “must-see” here. It’s hard to recommend a lot of these shows if you are going in order like me, as there is not much new on them that wasn’t on the arena show releases. You can skip this one.

Underground TV 2003-05-12 (matches taped Reload 2002-09-26 from Manhattan Center in New York, NY)

Champions
World: Satoshi Kojima
GTC: Simon Diamond & CW Anderson

Almost all the matches that will air over the course of Underground TV have been previously reviewed from the home videos so these will be short recaps.

“The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels is preparing for a 6 man tag team match. He says that MLW is trying to stack the deck against him but he got Dick Togo and Ikuto Hidaka to come help him.

Opening video.

Joey Styles welcomes us to the show. Tonight’s main event is a 6 man tag team match. We will also get words from Raven regarding the fall out of what happened with him on Friday. Now we go to our opening match

CW Anderson vs. Chris “Crowbar” Ford
This match is exclusive to Underground TV. The ring announcer announces Ford as Devon Storm, the on screen graphic shows just Crowbar, but Joey tells us he will be known as Chris “The Crowbar” Ford. Anderson goes behind, Ford with a standing switch and gets a waistlock take down. Anderson gets an arm bar. Ford with a slam and CW kicks him off and goes back to the arm. Ford reverses it and hits a suplex. CW eats a boot on a corner charge and Ford comes off the second rope with a clothesline. Ford with a springboard crossbody for 2. Sky high and slingshot somersault leg drop from the apron gets 2. CW goes to the outside but gets hit with a baseball slide. Ford sits CW in a chair and goes back in the ring. Ford with a slingshot out of the ring lands on CW. They get back in the ring and we go to commercial. Back from break and CW nails Ford in the head twice with a chair. CW goes for it a third time but the ref grabs the chair allowing Ford to hit a superkick. Drop kick and clothesline from Ford. Ford hits a jaw breaker for 2. Ford ducks a clothesline and hits a belly to back and sling shot splash for 2. Ford charges CW but gets superkicked and covered for 2. CW grabs the chair again but Ford goes low. He puts the chair behind the back of CW and pushes him into the turn buckle and then hits a northern lights with a bridge on the chair for 2. Ford puts the chair in the middle of the ring and charges CW but CW hits a spin buster on the chair to get the win in 7.54.

Joey talks about the Extreme Horsemen wanted to drive all the legends into extinction. We go to a Steve Corino promo and he says he is mad that he lost on Friday but more focused then ever. Corino tells Funk to bring some friends on June 20th because him and the Extreme Horsemen are getting revenge.

Joey hypes the finals of the Global Crown Tag Team Tournament coming up on Underground TV in a few weeks. CW Anderson and Simon Diamond have some words. Diamond says they are going to win the titles and make the MLW tag team division the best division in wrestling. CW says that we are going to see the best tag team in the world when they wrestle.

Back to Joey and he talks about the words that Raven has had for Vampiro. The Samoan Island Tribe say they are in MLW to kick butt and get the tag team titles.

In the main event “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, Dick Togo & Ikuto Hidaka beat Quiet Storm & The SATs in a 22 minute contest that I would say is pretty easily the best match from MLW so far. We get footage that was not on the home video of all the wrestlers in the match checking on Togo outside of the ring. Daniels and Hidaka help him to the back. As you may remember from my recap of Reload Togo landed hard on his ankle after getting hit with the Spanish fly.

We go to Raven and he talks about the Deadpool in WCW Vamprio felt the Raven effect tonight. Raven will not let Vampiro be a martyr. Raven says he will do what he did to Vampiro tonight again and again.

My thoughts on the show…
Thumbs up for the show tonight, we get an exclusive match not seen on the home video and the 6-man tag, which is awesome.

Joey Styles welcomes us to yet another addition of Underground TV. Tonight’s action comes from Tabu Night Club.

In the opening match Fuego Guerrero beat Ikuto Hidaka with a standing shooting star press.

Back from break and Joey wonders who jumped the Maximos a few weeks ago. Next week we find out because the Maximos will not let the show continue until they find out.

Simon Diamond talks about how he and CW Anderson will capture the Tag Team Crown and lead tag team wrestling into a new world. CW talks about great teams of the past and says they are going to be the best team ever.

Joey is upset because next week CM Punk makes his debut on Underground TV. Joey respects Punk for his life style choices but still thinks Punk is an asshole. Joey is rooting for Raven next week when they face off. Punk is back stage and he introduces himself to us. He talks about being straight edge and better then everyone.

Joey hypes the Masato Tanaka Mike Awesome 1 contenders match next week. Tanaka cuts a promo in Japanese.

Joey talks about the Jerry Lynn and “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels group. We go to a promo and Daniels talks about convincing Lynn that his path is was the right path. Daniels talks about their matches from Revolutions. Daniels looks to their future. Lynn says there is nothing but pain for anyone in MLW.

Joey tells us that Diamond and Anderson have made it known that their plan for the tag team match is to separate PJ Freidman and Steve “Dr. Detah” Williams in their match. Joey hypes the main event.

In the main event a bloody Terry Funk beat an even more bloody “King of Old School” Steve Corino. The rest of the members of Extreme Horsemen came out to beat on Funk until Steve Williams made the save.

Joey tells us that Taiyo Kea blow out both his knees in a match in Japan and will be out for a year.

Fuego Gurrero says that he will be at the next TV taping and will beat someone down.

Raven is in the arena after the show and he trash talks Vampiro for no showing. Raven challenges Vampiro to show up to the next show and calls Vampiro a pussy.

My thoughts on the show…
Two good matches on the show gets this another thumbs up episode.

Underground TV 2003-05-26 (matches taped Revolutions 2003-05-09 from Tabu Night Club in Orland, FLA)

Champions
World: Satoshi Kojima
GTC: Simon Diamond & CW Anderson

Almost all the matches that will air over the course of Underground TV have been previously reviewed from the home videos so these will be short recaps.

Highlights from the main event last week open the show.

Opening video.

Joey Styles talks about the barbed wire match coming up at Hybrid Hell. Fans from Japan and the UK are flying in to that show. Raven and CM Punk go at in and in the main event Mike Awesome against Masato Tanaka,

Raven talks about how CM Punk and says Punk reminds him of a young Raven. Well besides the drugs and alcohol. Raven says he thinks Punk is a unic.

Back from break and CM Punk makes his way to the ring for his match against Raven. Raven was able to score a victory after hitting a DDT.

Joey talks about how it’s so strange that the fans can get more behind a horrible person like Raven then they can CM Punk. Joey sends us to a Mike Awesome promo. Awesome talks about how he’s going to power bomb Tanaka tonight. Back to Styles and he talks about the Terry Funk Steve Corino barbed wire match. Joey gets a message in his head set and is getting word that Bill Alfonso was attacked in the locker room Joey says they can’t show it because it is to bloody and violent. Joey says Alfonso will be out for some time. Paul London makes his debut next week against Jerry Lynn. Joey runs down all the people that Lynn has been defeated by in MLW. We go to comments from London. London makes fun of Lynn and talks about trash about Lynn. We get introduced to Simply Luscious as she sits under a tree smelling flowers. She’s headed to MLW. Steve Corino is driving around and he says he is nervous about the barbed wire match. He calls Terry Funk a 148 years old and for some reason it actually makes me chuckle. Corino is on his way to the airport for another tour of Japan but he will come back with a vengeance to take out Funk. Joey talks about how no one has come forward to claim responsibility for beating down the SAT. We go to the Maxioms who say that next week they demand that who ever jumped them come forward. Joey talks about MLW being hybrid wrestling and one of the styles in the hybrid is ultraviolent and hardcore. Coming up in a month at Hybrid Hell that style will be on view in the barbed wire match. Next week we will see the Global Tag Team Crown Tournament Final. We get the debut of the Top 10 list. Joey goes over the men that MLW Champion Satoshi Kojima has beaten. It’s main event time!

Mike Awesome beat Masato Tanaka to remain the number one contender. The match had a weird finish making it difficult to understand how Awesome actually won. Through some editing magic the whole ref bump that was seen on the home video is edited out and we go right to Awesome power bombing Tanaka through the table. We get a new camera angle and some footage of Tanaka trying to get up that is not on the home video.

My thoughts on the show…
Man that middle part took forever. There were no matches for like four commercial breaks in a row!! It was awful to have to sit through this. That being said the two matches were good. If you haven’t seen the home video then check this out. If you’ve seen the two matches already, then the rest of the show is worthless.

Backstage Reaction To TNA’s New TV Deal, Possible Impact Tapings, New Programming?, More

0

Source: PWInsider

TNA officials are currently working on finalizing plans for their next TV tapings, which could come as soon as the week of December 15th in the Midwest. As noted, TNA has a hold on the Manhattan Center for the week of January 6th but they may tape in December and let those holds go, leading to tapings in the UK during their annual tour.

TNA officials are said to be extremely happy with the new Destination America TV deal. The deal was reportedly agreed upon a week or two ago and finalized earlier this week. The feeling within TNA is now that the TV deal is done, they can start working on new talent deals, creative plans for next year and more internal changes, which John Gaburick has been working on.

One of the Destination America selling points for TNA was that TNA will be an important cornerstone of the network. The deal also opens up the possibility of more TNA programming. Dixie Carter made it clear during negotiations that she didn’t want a deal for just another two hours of Impact Wrestling.

There’s no date confirmed yet for when Impact Wrestling will begin on Discovery but it could air on Tuesday or Wednesday.
