TV 1996-11-05 (Matches taped Ultimate Jeopardy 1996-10-05 at ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA & 1996-11-02 at Middletown Fairgrounds in Middletown, NY)

Champions
World: Sandman
TV: Shane Douglas
Tag Team: Gangstas

We pick up right where we left off last week as Raven is in the ring. Sandman is busted open from the cane shot and Raven hits a second DDT. Raven piledrivers Sandman through two stacked tables. Raven talks about being an unwanted child and being shunned by his peers. On November 16th Raven is bringing his pain. November to Remember is going to be a night Sandman hopes he can forget.

Opening video.

Joey Styles welcomes us to the show and tells us that at November to Remember a dream partner match has been signed. Pitbull 2 has already picked Tommy Dreamer as his partner and TV Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas still needs to pick his. Douglas has put out a bounty on Pitbull 2.

Pitbull 2 vs. The Pittsburg Steel Team, ref Jim Molineaux (1996-11-02)
Steel team charges and they get clotheslined and slammed. Shane Douglas and Francine show up backstage with Joey and trash talks Pitbull. Shane talks about the bounty he has put out on Pitbull. He hypes the November to Remember match. Back to the action in the ring and Shane and Francine have now made their way to ringside. Pitbull hits a super fall away slam and gets the win. Less then a minute of the match was actually shown, not that the actual match was much longer. “Primetime” Brian Lee shows up and attacks Pitbull. He and Shane beat on and bust open Pitbull against the wall of the arena. Stevie Richards, Blue Meanie and Super Nova come out and stack three tables by a production truck. Lee takes Pitbull to the top of the truck and chokeslams him through them all!!!! Shane locks in a full nelson as he tries to break the neck of Pitbull. Dreamer comes out and tries to make the save.

We go to Joey and he’s pissed because Shane Douglas has been hijacking ECW programing in his quest to injure Pitbull 2.

Doug Furnas vs. Louie Spicolli, ref John Finnegan (1996-10-05)
Spicolli wants to shake hands but Furnas flips him off. Spicolli with a side headlock and Furnas just picks him up and throws him off. Side headlock again and this time Furnas puts Spicolli on the top turnbuckle. Furnas hits the ropes and just runs over Spicolli sending him to the floor. Back in the ring Louie with a spin buster but Furnas is right back up. Furnas pushes Louie into the corner and chops and kicks away. Big powerslam by Furnas. Leg drop follows and gets a 2 count. Spicolli with a small package but Furnas kicks out and goes right back to work on Louie. Clothesline in the corner but again Furnas can’t keep Spicolli down for the count. Furnas with a frankensteiner but then he taunts the crowd instead of going for the cover. Furnas hits a few clotheslines and then gets in a 3 point stance. Furnas charges but Louie grabs him and nails the DVD and ends things in 5.55!

Hype Central with Joel Gertner.

Joey tells us that Pitbull 2 has been rushed to the hospital in Middletown for an MRI.

TV Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas (w/ Francine) vs. Tommy Dreamer (w/ Beulah), ref John “Pee Wee” Moore
Joey goes all the way back to 1993 and brings up the time that Douglas cost Dreamer his only title in ECW turning on him in a tag team championship match. Dreamer charges the ring and they start punching away. Dreamer grabs the belt and nails Shane with it for a 2 count. Now he lays it across the face of Shane and leg drops it for another near fall. Shane sent to the floor and Dreamer baseball slides a chair into him. Francine tries to hit Tommy with a chair but he moves and it nails Shane. Back in the ring and Shane gets sent into a corner but comes right out and hits a swinging neck breaker on a chair. Piledriver on a chair follows and gets a 2 count. Shane with a suplex through two chairs. Shane puts a chair on Dreamer and comes off the top but Dreamer shoves the chair into Shane’s face. Dreamer with a powerslam on the chair and it gets a 2 count. Neckbreaker nearly gets 3. Dreamer puts a chair in the corner but Shane reverses and Dreamer hits the chair. Shane goes for a belly to belly but they go back and forth with the positioning. Dreamer hits a DDT but Francine puts Shane’s foot on the rope. Beulah goes after Francine distracting Dreamer and Shane is able to hit a single arm DDT and tombstone. Shane locks in the full nelson but Dreamer goes low and puts on one of his own. Brian Lee shows up and Dreamer goes after him. Shane with another single arm DDT on Dreamer. Lee comes in a chokeslams Dreamer while Shane takes out the ref with a belly to belly. Lee goes to chokeslam Beulah but Shane stops him and locks her the full nelson! A ton of wrestlers come out from the back but all get choke slammed down. Call this a no contest at about 8.15.

Back to Joey and he tells us that Beulah is on her way to the hospital. Joey runs down the November 2 Remember card coming up.

“Misirlou” promo time. Douglas talks about breaking necks. Raven is sitting under the bleachers and he reads from the come Sandman. Eliminators hype their match against Sabu and Rob Van Dam. Gangstas hype their match at N2R which will be between the winner of the Eliminators and Sabu/Van Dam match. Gangstas are hoping for the Eliminators because they owe them. Back to Raven who is sitting in a bunch of chairs on the floor more talk about the Sandman. Back to Douglas and he talks about the November 2 Remember dream tag team match. Douglas tells Dreamer he has no choice but to call his mentor because there is no one else left. Douglas says this has been all part of his master plan since he returned to ECW. Dreamer is leaving the hospital and pulls out his car phone complete with a cord. Dreamer tells the operator he needs to make a personal call, he asks to be connected to the Double Cross ranch in Amarillo, Texas as we fade to black.

My thoughts on the show…
Awesome. Everything that they are doing with the Douglas/Pitbull feud I’m loving right now. Expect Pitbull to make his presence felt at the N2R dream partner match. Highly recommended episode.

TV 1996-11-12 (Matches taped Ultimate Jeopardy 1996-10-05 at ECW Arena, High Incident 1996-10-26 at ECW Arena, & 1996-11-02 at Middletown Fairgrounds in Middletown, NY)

Champions
World: Sandman
TV: Shane Douglas
Tag Team: Gangstas

We are just a few days away from November to Remember 96. TV Champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and his partner “Primetime” Brian Lee will be taking on Tommy Dreamer and a partner of Dreamer’s choice. All signs point to that person being Terry Funk. We open up this week with highlights off all the goings on from last week.

Joey Styles welcomes us to the show and officially announces Funk as Dreamers partner. We get a highlight package of Funk in ECW. Funk made his last ECW appearance at last years November to Remember.

Buh Buh Ray Dudley (w/ Big Dick Dudley) vs. D-Von Dudley (w/ Axl Rotten), ref John “Pee Wee” Moore (1996-10-05)
We are joined in progress and D-Von lays out Buh Buh with multiple chair shots to the head. We clip to Buh Buh hitting a plancha. another clip and D-Von lands on his feet out of a power bomb attempt picks up a chair and just lays out Buh Buh getting the win. 1.09 is shown. Axl now in the ring destroying Spike Dudley with a chair. Big Dick comes in and lays out Axl and then hits a damn near perfect moonsault off the top rope!!!!!!!

We go back to Joey and see a clip from Middletown when D-Von and Axl hit a double chair shot on Big Dick. After Dick get all bandaged up he busted into the locker room and attacked D-Von. D-Von and Axl afterwards both said they wanted Big Dick in a match. Joel Gertner shows up and tells D-Von and Axl that they should press charges. Dick gets arrested um by the security guards how does that work?

Joey runs down the feud between Pitbull 2 and Shane Douglas. We get some clips from N2R 94.

Brief clips of the Eliminators and Miracle Violence Connection match from High Incident. The Eliminators one after Saturn came off the scaffold with an elbow drop onto Terry Gordy. Joey runs down the history between Rob Van Dam and Sabu.

Rob Van Dam & Sabu vs. Doug Furnas & Dan Kroffat, ref Jim Molineaux (1996-10-26)
Join in progress Van Dam and Furnas are fighting on a table and Sabu comes off the second buckle and DDTs Van Dam through the table. This was supposed to be a mistake but it didn’t really look that way. Kroffat and Furnas really taking over on Sabu as Van Dam tries to get up. Kroffat with a Japanese sleeper and t bone suplex. Furnas comes in and hits a powerslam. Furnas locks in a boston crab but Van Dam comes in to break it up. Kroffat back in he goes for a hip toss but Sabu reverses it into a DDT and he makes the tag. Van Dam comes off the top with a somersault body block and lands on his head after hitting Kroffat. Spin kick and standing moonsault gets a 2. Double under hook face plant for 2. Van Dam hits the ropes but Kroffat turns him inside out with a clothesline. Both teams tag and Sabu hits air sabu. Triple jump leg drop for 2. Double team slingshot splash/legdrop combo. Sabu with the arabian press for 2. Triple jump moonsault onto Furnas. Kroffat comes off the top to break up the pin but Sabu moves and he hits Furnas. Sabu covers and gets the win. 8.16 of the match is shown. Sabu extends his hand to Van Dam and Van Dam finally takes it and as they are now a unified team. Joey wonders if anyone can stop them now.

Joey tells us that this week is Too Cold Scorpio’s ECW send off.

Too Cold Scorpio vs. Davey Tyler, ref John Finnegan (1996-11-02)
After some back and forth Tyler drop kicks Scorpio to the floor and then comes off the top rope with a body block. Back drop into the crowd and Tyler and flies from the top rope with a body block. We clip to the 450 for the finish. Taz hits the ring and attacks hitting a tbone and locking Scorpio in the tazmission. I wish he did this about 10 minutes ago. Taz again demands a match with Sabu. Only 2.31 was shown.

Paul Heyman highlights the past history between Taz and Sabu. Heyman says that he went to Taz before bringing back Sabu. Heyman said that the deal was that Taz and Sabu would forget about each other and leave each other alone. Heyman says this is way for the past year Sabu has never answered the challenge of Taz. Heyman says that Sabu is a man of his word unlike Taz and that Taz is not a man.

Highlights package hyping N2R set to “November Rain” by Guns ’N’ Roses.

My thoughts on the show…
Big Dick doing a moonsault was awesome! The tag match was real good from what was shown. The Heyman promo did a real nice job of explaining why Sabu has been so silent on this situation the last year. Of course the N2R packages are awesome every year. I think if they threw the Heyman and November Rain at the end of last weeks episode it would have served as a better “go home” show but this episode was still good.

The “OH MY GOD!” Review: Major League Wrestling “Summer Apocalypse” 8/22/03

Summer Apocalypse 2003-08-22 from St. Petersburg Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Fla

Champions
World: Steve Corino
GTC: Simon Diamond & CW Anderson

Nosawa & B-Boy vs. Los Maximos
So I guess the CMLL Champions didn’t show up tonight. I expect this match to be full of fuck ups. Joel and B-Boy start off and do some back and forth stuff. Joel with a rana and a head scissor that sends Boy to the floor. Nosawa sneaks in and super kicks Joel and hits a shinning wizard. Jose comes in now and takes down Nosawa they lock in the boston crab/camel clutch combo. Northern lights by Joel but B-Boy kicks out. Joel goes for a rana but B-Boy catches him and power bombs him into the turnbuckle. Joel is seated in the corner and B-Boy just jumps on his face. Nosawa tags in and hits a charging back elbow in the corner. Joel rolls to the floor and Nosawa follows and throws him into the crowd. Back in Joel reverses an irish whip and hits a belly to belly overhead throw. Tag to Jose and he climbs the top rope and lands an elbow drop. Nosawa rolls through a sunset flip attempt by Jose and hits a seated drop kick for 2. B-Boy tags in and kicks Jose in the back a few times. B-Boy with some chops in the corner. Jose goes for a sunset flip but B-Boy just jumps onto Jose’s chest. He does it again then drops an elbow for 2. Tag to Nosawa and he kicks Jose low. B-Boy back in he goes for a clothesline but Jose ducks and hits a rana. B-Boy fights right back with a inverted DDT. Irish whip but Jose slides through the legs of B-Boy and hits an enziguri. Tags on both ends. Joel comes in and cleans house. Nosawa and B-Boy go to the floor and Jose dives onto them. Joel now with an asai moonsault onto everyone. Back in the ring B-Boy with a fishermens buster. Joel with a piledriver type move. Nosawa with a michinoku driver and then he goes up top. Big mistake. Tripped up and the Spanish fly for three in 10.46. Wow and with nothing so glaringly bad that I want to meet the Maximos just so I can verbally berate them, I actually enjoy the match.

Rich Criado vs. Mana
Well this is going to be a squash. Criado blocks some punches but then gets head butted down. Mana with two CRAZY loud chops. Mana hits a slam and senton. He picks up Criado like he is going for a side slam but then trhows him back so he lands on his stomach. Very cool looking move. Mana misses a corner charge and Criado goes up top but Mana knocks him to the buckle. Mana with a super samoan drop for the win in 2.21. I mean not that I care one way or the other but does this mean we aren’t getting the Criado/Nosawa rematch that was announced?

Sonjay Dutt vs. Jimmy Yang
Yang back Dutt into the corner and slaps him on the chest. A few go behind reversals and Yang gets shit for going to the ropes instead of breaking the hold. Dutt twirls around Yang twice before taking him down with a head scissor. It makes me legit dizzy. Dutt hits a crazy spring board dive where he twists like 3 times in the air. Drop kick by Dutt for 2. Yang sent to the corner Dutt charges but Yang toe holds him into the buckle. Yang with a spin kick that lays out Dutt. They go to the floor and Yang throws Dutt into the guardrail a few times. Yang with chops and Dutt does the twirl around thing again into an octopus stretch. Yang counters that with a backbreaker. Dutt with a drop kick and springboard leg drop for 2. Dutt with a flying back elbow for 2. Yang with a jaw breaker to take back over. Dutt gets the boot up on a corner charge. Dutt runs at Yang, Yang goes for a tilt a whirl back breaker but Dutt spins into a DDT. Dutt with a leaping neck breaker for 2. Dutt with a superrana for 2. Yang goes for a back drop but Dutt lands on his feet. Yang boots him in the gut. Dutt sends Yang to the and charges but gets back dropped to the apron. Dutt able to land on his feet and climb the turnbuckle. Dutt leaps off with a 450 landing on Yang’s shoulders and then going into a rana that Yang takes right on the top of his head but only gets a 2 count. Dutt goes back up top with a crossbody attempt but Yang sticks his knee out and it’s a rib breaker. Yang goes up top and lands Yang time for the win in 11.19. That match was super good!

Tony Mamaluke vs. Mikey Whipwreck (w/ Sinister Minister)
Some comedy to start. Nice back and forth opening spot ends with a Whipwreck clothesline. Mikey misses a leg drop on the apron and Mamaluke knocks him to floor and then hits a dive. Mikey reverses an irish whip and Mamaluke goes into the crowd. Mikey runs and dives over the guardrail but he misses. Mamaluke DDTs Mikey on the floor. Mamaluke faces two chairs towards each other. He charges Mikey who is up against the apron. Mikey moves and the slams Mamaluke into the chairs. Back in the ring Mikey with a submission. Mikey with a whippersnapper but Mamaluke hooks the top rope so he didn’t take the full effect of the move. Mamaluke takes over now. Slingshot leg drop to the apron, clothesline and knee to the stomach get a two count. Mamaluke locks in an arm bar but Mikey powers up and hits a sitout tiger bomb. Mikey hits a leaping jawbreaker and whippersnapper but only gets 2! Mokey ducks a front kick and hits a superkick for 2. Mikey goes up top but Mamaluke knocks him down and pulls him off the top rope with a DDT for 2. Mamaluke goes up top but Minister pokes him in the asshole with his cane and then Mamaluke falls crotch first. Super whippersnapper for 3 after 8.03. Decent match with a nice finish. I forgot to mention earlier that MLW was finally added replays to their shows. Also Joey ruined things that are probably going to be announced on TV or in promos later tonight. War Games Match and Junior Title Tournament coming next month.

Falls Count Anywhere Match: Samoan Island Tribe vs. Monsta Mac & B-Boy
Another no show as Mafia isn’t here tonight. Why is this still a falls count anywhere then? Mac gets thrown to the floor and they throw B-Boy through the air. Mac back in and he gets double team Spin bustered. Ekmo clotheslines Mac to the floor and hits a super kick on B-Boy. They go to the floor. Samu is destroying B-Boy as Ekmo takes on Mac. Styles says Mafia was jumped in the parking lot by the Samoans. I find that some what hard to believe. Total domination by the Samoans. Mac with a hard chair shot to Ekmo’s back in the ring. Ekmo reverses a corner whip and Mac hits the chair that he had propped up in the corner. Swinging urinagi by Ekmo. Samu kills B-Boy with a chair. B-Boy and Mac try to come back. It doesn’t last. B-Boy again gets a chair bent over his head. Mac jumps of a ladder that has been brought into the ring but is countered. B-Boy is on a table outside of the ring. Ekmo climbs the top rope and hits a splash through the table on the floor!!!!!!! The Samoans pick up the win in 8.10. Another fun brawl involving the Island Tribe and a sick move to finish the match.

Straight Edge Rules Match: CM Punk (w/ Nosawa) vs. Raven
Joey questions why Nosawa is with Punk. We still don’t know the rules to this match. Punk on the mic and he of course trashes the fans. Punks says he is better then everyone because he is straight edge. This makes the fans chant “you fucking suck” at him. Punk says that rules are that there will be DQs and countouts and that this is an old school match. Punk has is own ref for the match. The ref has is own special introduction. They say he is from the Straight Edge Wrestling Federation and that at age 12 he turned his parents in for smoking pot. HAHA Punk jumps up and down in excitement for this. CM Punk requests that no one drink alcohol during the match. Punk and the ref try to get an old man ejected. This is some fun stuff here. Raven just hanging in the corner the whole time. Fans start to chante “Raven’s rules”. Raven out wrestling Punk to start but Punk able to beat down Raven in the corner. Raven quickly goes for the DDT but Punk bails. Raven with a noggin knocker on Punk and Nosawa. Back in the ring Raven again beats on Punk. Raven throws Punk to the floor. Raven goes to whip Punk to the guardrail but the ref jumps in the way and says he will get DQed. Punk brings a chair into the ring but Raven gets it. Again he is threatened with DQ. The ref gets rid of the chair as Punk hits a low blow. Nosawa distracts the ref and Punk hits Raven in the stomach with the chair. Punk puts the chair in the corner and whips Raven into it as Nosawa again gives distraction. Raven thrown to the floor and he’s sent into the guardrail behind the refs back. Punk hits Raven with a mic and the ref simply turns away to not see it. Punk tries to hit Raven with a chair but Raven moves and the chair bounces off the ropes into Punk. Both men down for a 9 count. Back up and Raven takes over a few clotheslines and a Mr. Wrestling 2 knee lift. Bulldog from Raven for 2. Drop toe hold to the chair but the ref moves it so its just a regular drop toe hold. Raven argues to the ref and Punk with a school boy. Fast count but only a 2. Raven with a superkick for 2! Nosawa holds Raven and Punk charges but Raven moves. DDT by Raven. Raven has the win but the ref fakes a shoulder injury. Raven goes to DDT the ref but gets school boyed again this time for the 3. Time of the match was 9.24. While predictable it did what it need to do. These guys always put on a nice show.

Michael Shane & Francine vs. Norman Smiley & GI Ho
Norman Smiley’s whole thing is so fucking hilarious. Francine and Ho start off but Ho plays to the crowd and Francine and Shane switch behind her back. Shane grabs her but Smiley makes the save. Shane and Smiley now Shane goes for a leap from but Smiley stops running and twirls and then punches Shane. Shane goes for a crossbody but gets caught and Smiley with the big swinging bodyslam. Shane flips out of a suplex and they each nail a clothesline. The girls tag in now and we get the roll around on the mat cat fight. Shane goes for a powerbomb on Ho but Smiley punches Shane in the back of the head. Ho with a rana and Shane makes it look awesome. Smiley dumps Shane to the floor and does the big wiggle on Francine. Shane with a superkick to Smiley and then he boots Ho in the face. Shane pulls out handcuff and they lock Smiley to the bottom rope. Well she’s trying to but it’s taking forever. Shane brings a table in the ring and splashes Ho from the top rope through the table for the win at 5.42. I was surprised when the ref counted the fall. I kinda thought it was going to be thrown out after it broke down.

Homicide vs. “Evil F’N Show” Jerry Lynn (w/ Sinister Minister)
This two had a hell of a match at the last show. Mat work to start off. Homicide with some chops in the corner and then he sends Lynn the opposite way and charges with a forearm. Lynn now sends Homicide to the corner and charges with the same. Lynn takes over for a bit and then Homicide with a head scissor and Lynn goes to the floor. Homicide with an overhead belly to belly and Lynn again goes to the floor. Homicide with the somersault dive through the ropes. Lynn back in and Homicide is on the apron. After some distraction from Minister Lynn drags Homicide over the rope hooks his feet on the top rope and then drops him straight down onto his head with a DDT! It’s nasty looking and Homicide quickly rolls out of the ring. The ref hops out to check on him. Lynn stays back for a minute but then jumps out of the ring and attacks. Back in the ring Lynn remains in control. A flapjack and leg drop combo gets 2. Homicide attempts a comeback but Lynn counters Homicide with a sunset flip powerbomb of the second rope. Lynn back in control as we are 12 minutes into the match. Homicide blocks a DDT by hooking the top rope. Lynn goes for a suplex but Homicide flips out of it and hits an ace crusher. They are down for an 8 count. Homicide comes back with a flying forearm and tbone suplex for 2. Lynn with a swinging single arm DDT for a near fall. Lynn setting up the cradle piledriver but Homicide trips him up and slingshots him into the turnbuckle. Super rana by Homicide but Minister pulls the ref out of the ring. Homicide is bleeding for some reason. Lynn tries to use the ring bell but Homicide knocks it out of his hands and bulldogs him onto it and gets 2. TKO by Lynn and it almost gets him the victory. Lynn goes for a clothesline but Homicide cradles him and gets the pin in 16.07. Lynn attacks after the match and hits the cradle piledriver. Lynn comes off the second rope with the ring bell to the throat of Homicide. Nowhere near what the first one was.

Global Tag Team Crown Champions Extreme Horsemen vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams & Sandman
I wonder if the Horsemen will have titles tonight. Williams yet again going after the belts. Sandman seems extra drunk. The champs have belts! Remember Corino is suspended tonight, aka booked in Japan. The champs attack before the bell. Williams quickly fights back with a double clothesline. Williams on the offense against CW Anderson and he tags in Sandman. Anderson reverses a corner whip and Sandman hits as Simon Diamond tags in. Diamond doesn’t do much and tags out to Anderson. Anderson with some punches and kicks and he tags back to Simon who hits a snap suplex for 2. They hit a double seated drop kick. Anderson now in and he hits a clothesline and tags out. Diamond ducks his head and Sandman with a DDT and the rolling rock. Tag made and Williams comes in the ring with a top rope shoulder block on Diamond. Anderson charges in and gets spinebustered. Powerslam on Diamond for 2. Williams goes for the back drop driver on Anderson but Diamond superkicks Williams. PJ Friedman shows up nails Anderson with a chair and runs away. I don’t think anyone in the crowd knows who he is. Williams slams Anderson off the top rope and hits the back drop driver on Diamond. Someone comes out in a lucha mask and breaks up the pin. Williams goes after him but gets pulled down on the top rope. Joey thinks it’s Corino but it looks nothing like his body type. I guess that’s how it’s going to play out on TV. Sandman gets a chair superkicked into his face and Anderson hits a spine buster on the chair to retain the titles in 7.09. This match was pretty garbage with a really stupid finish.

Spike Match: “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels (w/ Sinister Minister) vs. Sabu (w/ Bill Alfonso)
Sabu’s arm is all bandaged up from his match last month with Mikey Whipwreck. Bill Alfonso has an arm brace on also. Not entirely sure what the rules of a Spike Match are. Daniels tries hard to stay away from Sabu to start. Back and forth to begin. So there is a steel spike on the outside of the ring that they can get and use. Daniels chokes Sabu on the rope and goes for the spike but Sabu drop kicks his legs and puts on a leg lock. Daniels hammers Sabu in the back of the neck and Sabu rolls to the floor. Four minutes into the match and not much has happened which tells me these guys are preparing to go twenty. Back in the ring Sabu again takes out the legs and hits a slingshot leg lariat. Sabu throws a chair in the face of Daniels and hits the triple jump moonsault. Sabu goes for the spike but Minister blocks his way allowing Daniels to nail him from behind. Snapmare and seated drop kick by Daniels for a 2 count. Daniels hits a the ropes and comes off with a swinging neckbreaker for 2. Sabu with a jaw breaker and he goes for the spike again but Daniels gets him from behind and slams him into the guardrail. Daniels throws Sabu back in the ring and hits a urinagi and two BMEs but can’t get a three. Daniels goes to the aisle and gets the spike. Sabu blocks and picks up the spike but Daniels counters with a downward spiral into a submission. Daniels with two shinning enziguris and Sabu rolls to the floor. Daniels sets up a table on the floor and puts Sabu on it. Daniels goes up top but Alfonso distracts him. Sabu and Daniels fight over who goes through the table from the top. Daniels ends up falling into the ring and Sabu comes off the top with a leg drop for 2. Alfonso puts a table in the ring. Daniels with a STO for 2. Sabu with a DDT that almost gets 3. Daniels set up on the table and Sabu with the Arabian Buster to the back of the head through the table. Sinister Minister comes in the ring with the spike and goes after Alfonso. Mikey Whipwreck comes in a tries to throw fire at Sabu but Alfonso throws water on him. HAHA that’s awesome. Sabu knocks Mikey out of the ring and gets the spike. He nails Daniels with it a few times and locks in the camel clutch while jabbing the spike into the eye of Daniels. Sabu gets the submission victory in 15.15. Well I’m a big fan of both these guys and was expecting much more from this. They didn’t seem to click. The spot with Mikey and Alfonso was great.

Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Terry Funk
I’m very nervous as there is still 30 minutes left in the show and will kill myself if this match goes on for that long. Lawler has been hired by the Extreme Horsemen to collect the bounty on Funk. Haha they do a tale of the tape and one of the things says “years pro” and it says 1965 for Funk which is obviously his debut year. But if you read it they way the wrote it it looks like he’s been wrestling for 1,965 years. It’s funny cause he’s so old. Lawler on the mic talks about how Funk has been around for way to long. Lawler meanwhile has been wrestling for only 5 less years. Bell rings and we have 25 minutes of show left. Lawler punches Funk to the floor. Funk now on the apron but Lawler not letting him back in the ring. Funk punched off the apron through a table on the floor. This match is all Lawler and he hits a piledriver on the floor. In the ring now and Lawler with another piledriver this time onto a chair. Second rope fist drop by Lawler. Lawler puts a chair in the corner and goes to ram Funk into it but Funk throws Lawler into it. Funk fires away with rights and sends Lawler to the floor. Funk now with a piledriver on the floor. They are heading towards the entrance way and Funk hits another piledriver. Simon Diamond comes from the back and hands something to Lawler. Lawler nails Funk and we see that he has barbed wire around his first. Funk is busted open. Funk is bleeding hard. Lawler continues to punch Funk with the wire and rake it across his face. Lawler poking Funk in the eye with the barbs. Funk fights back and we clip the match to Funk sending Lawler into the corner. Funk follows in and Lawler trips him and puts his feet on the ropes and gets the win. 10.37 is shows. Anderson and Diamond hit the ring and throw Funk out. Lawler asks for his money but Diamond says they weren’t paying Lawler to beat him in a match they were paying him to take Funk out. Lawler demands his money but Diamond again says no. They should probably just go beat up Funk together. Lawler attacks the Extreme Horsemen and hits the with stunners. They guy in the mask comes back out and they beat down Lawler. Funk and Lawler shove each other and fight over who gets to go in the ring to fight the Extreme Horsemen. They both go in and fight off the Horsemen. Funk kills the masked man with a chair and goes after the mask but then another masked man comes out with a chair and nails Lawler and Funk. Sandman and Williams come out and get rid of the Horsemen. Funk and Lawler roll around on the mat and choke each other. Funk says he hates Lawler and will never forgive him for taking out his eye. Sandman gets on the mic and tries to get them to drink a beer together and end this. Simon Diamond comes back out and makes a War Games match for September. Lawler gets on the mic and tells Funk that he hates him and will always hate him. Lawler says he wants to teach Diamond and Anderson and lesson and will team with Funk. This match was awful and the end part was equally as bad.

My thoughts on the show…
Ehh I guess mildly recommended. The tag title and main event match were not good at all. Sabu Daniels didn’t live up to what I thought it would. Mostly every thing else was passable. Sonjay Dutt put on a hell of show tonight.

Fighting Spirit Review: Kenta Kobashi Produce “Fortune Dream 2”

0

By: Kevin Wilson of Puroresu Central

Date:  December 10th, 2014
Location: Tokyo Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan
Announced Attendance:  1,600

Kenta Kobashi’s Fortune returns for their second event of the year.  I guess Kobashi is going the Tenryu route of just running his own events when he wants to with his own favorite wrestlers.  Whatever makes him happy I guess.  We get participation from a lot of different promotions here, the full card is as follows:

– Hayato Mashita vs. Minoru Tanaka
– Kairi Hojo vs. Meiko Satomura
– Koji Kanemoto and Kazuki Hashimoto vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Masaaki Mochizuki
– Shane Haste and Quiet Storm vs. Shuji Ishikawa  and Tank Nagai
– Kohei Sato, Katsuhiko Nakajima, and Takuma Sano vs. Takashi Sugiura, Daisuke Sekimoto, and Shiro Koshinaka
– Joe Doering and Shingo Takagi vs. Kento Miyahara and Yuji Hino

I won’t be reviewing Kobashi and Tenryu’s “talk battle,” I am sure it was interesting but I don’t speak Japanese so it would go a bit over my head.

Match Thoughts:  A basic opener but not a horrible one.  It was pretty one-sided, Mashita got a few licks in but Tanaka stayed in control.  This wasn’t surprising since Tanaka is the seasoned vet, it just made the match less compelling as it never really felt like Mashita had a chance to pull off the upset.  Also I hate hate hate the ‘trading sitting down so you can kick me’ spot, one of my least favorite spots in all of wrestling.  So I have to score it down for that but it wasn’t the worst opener I have seen.  Score:  3.5

Match Thoughts:  Some really shady transitions but good overall.  Hojo is adorable and Satomura is a seasoned vet that generally puts on entertaining matches.  Some of the move combinations were just odd, like Hojo successfully hit the spear but Satomura no-sold it to go on to her next move, at that point why not just have Satomura reverse the spear?  Silly things like that happened throughout the match but it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment too much.  A solid joshi match.  Score:  6.0

Match Thoughts:   You could tell they were going for the draw by the end of the match but overall it wasn’t bad.  A little too kicky for my personal taste but you know that is what you are getting with these guys.  At times it didn’t really feel like a tag team match as there wasn’t a ton of cooperation between partners, but the teams were kinda thrown together so at least it made sense.  A perfectly acceptable match, it not a bit repetitive at times, but really not my favorite match style and as always I prefer a definite ending if possible.  Score:  5.5

Match Thoughts:   A good hard hitting match that went straight to the point.  Not a lot of ‘feeling out’ here, just a bunch of brutes slugging it out with each other which sometimes in wrestling is all that you can hope for.  Some little selling issues here and there and Storm seemed a step below the rest, but generally just a fun mid-card match that didn’t do any harm even if it wasn’t memorable.  Score:  6.0

Match Thoughts: I barely recognized Nakajima, he is sporting some odd teenager goatee or something and he is a little thicker than I remember. Anyway, there were too many wrestlers here to get a real flow going but it wasn’t a bad match. It was an odd assortment of wrestlers, I can’t remember the last time I saw Sano and having representatives from so many different promotions meant that team work was a bit limited since they weren’t really familiar with each other. Koshinaka running around doing hip attacks off any elevated location he could find was fun though and Sekimoto looked impressive as usual. It just didn’t have much of a structure and at times just felt too much like “do a few moves, tag out, do a few moves, tag out” etc. Nothing exciting but not a bad showing by the veterans, one of those weird matches you’ll only see on an indy event like this. Score: 5.5

Match Thoughts: A really solid main event.  Hino is a boss, and the All Japan guys were fun. Takagi seemed a bit out of place as he isn’t the biggest guy (compared to everyone else in the match), but generally speaking he held his own. It was a bit repetitive in parts, lots of shoulderblocks and things like that, but once they really got into it the second half of the match the action never slowed down to the finish. Just for the sake of mixing things up I wish it wasn’t Doering and Miyahara in the home stretch, I know it probably made things easier to have the finish just include the two All Japan wrestlers but I’d like to have seen something more fresh. Still, a fun hard hitting match, lots of clubberin’ here, and not a bad way to end the show. Score: 7.0

Final Thoughts:

Best Match: Joe Doering and Shingo Takagi vs. Kento Miyahara and Yuji Hino. It wasn’t really memorable in the grand scheme of things or a match I’d recommend people go out of their way to see, but it was still a really fun main event match. It is always fun to see wrestlers from different promotions mixing it up, especially when one of those wrestlers is Hino as he simply doesn’t care what promotion you are from. He was going toe to toe with Doering as if he was just another wrestler, not a Triple Crown Champion. They also went non-stop from bell to bell and never let things slow down, and overall it was an entertaining match.

MVP:   Yuji Hino.  It is not unusual for Hino to be the MVP of the indy events he is on, because he just stands out as more of a force than everyone else. I mean here he is against the Triple Crown Champion and he is standing there trading shots with him, or going out of his way to attack him just to show that he isn’t afraid of him. And even though Doering is a lot taller than Hino, it didn’t seem unrealistic that he could stand with him as Hino has such a commanding presence. I just wish that he was in the match more as he was the one showing the most drive in the match. I don’t think he will ever get a chance in the big promotions but he has done a lot this year to show that he deserves it.

Overall: This Fortune event was a big step down from the last one. While on the last event it seemed like everyone was putting on maximum effort, this just felt like another indy show. The main event was good, and some of the other matches were solid but it lacked emotion for the most part. Sometimes random pairings work, other times it is lackluster and this event had more of the latter.   Just a lot of middling action with little standing out, nothing was really terrible but nothing will stick in your mind for more then a few days. Not much here I can recommend even though the main event was fun.

Grisham brought up how Punk previously talked about part-time WWE stars like Batista coming back and taking main event spots away and asked if he feels like he’s doing the same in UFC with a 0-0 record. Punk replied:

“The irony of the situation is certainly not lost on me and I accept all the responsibility in the world for that. But there’s also so many differences. UFC employees thousands of fighters. I look at it more as I’m not taking a spot away from somebody, I’m allowing somebody to gain that spot because whoever fights me, they’re going to make a nice chunk of change I like to think. I think that’s a good opportunity for someone else too. There’s a myriad of other differences and if I wasn’t willing to put in the work and actually train and just fight tomorrow, I could see the parallels more.”

Punk also responded to the recent comments from UFC’s Jon Jones where Jones said he hopes Punk gets knocked out. Punk said he has never met Jones personally but has nothing but respect for Jones as a fighter.

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler was hospitalized at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis with a case of diverticulitis over the New Year’s holiday.

Lawler was expected to be released this weekend. He has been taking heavy doses of antibiotics since undergoing tests at the hospital on Wednesday.

Lawler’s girlfriend Lauryn McBride posted these photos of Lawler celebrating the New Year in his hospital room:

He’s up and awake for the time being, so we decided to put our cute hats on and take some NYE pics of our awesome hospital NYE party! that is until the pain meds kick in again and he’s back snoozing away which could easily be when we ring in the New Year!! I sure wish we were able to be with our friends tonight, but honestly I am not hating this one bit not being out with the crazies other than the fact we are in the hospital!! & hey I get to be in my sweats and my hello kitty house slippers.

CM Punk Q&A Recap: What ‘CM’ Stands For, Which Wrestlers Could Transition To UFC, Lesnar, More

0

CM Punk participated in a Q&A session Friday to help promote UFC 182. Punk spoke about a variety of topics at length.

Here are the highlights from the session thanks to Sean Ross Sapp:

* Punk entered the session to “Cult of Personality,” and host Jon Anik asked the fans to limit the pro wrestling inquiries, as Punk is now a UFC fighter.

* Punk said he spoke to Duke Roufus of Roufusport a few days before Christmas and talked about things. He put over the fact that the camp had Anthony Pettis and Ben Askren. He said he didn’t want to sacrifice quality for convenience. He said it was really flattering to have so many offers to train.

* He says he understands the critics, but he doesn’t have to agree with them. If people enjoy seeing him win or lose, that’s great. He said he gets people want to see him knocked out.

* Punk is asked about the hardest aspect that he thinks he’ll face. He responds by saying it will likely be the day of the fight and showing people what he’s made of.

* Someone asks if Punk joined UFC to spite WWE. He says that would be a ridiculous reason to put yourself inside a cage with someone who wants to beat you up. Punk says it’s a personal journey and a supreme challenge.

* Punk says he wanted to switch to a line of work where he wasn’t miserable all day, every day. He said his opponent won’t be named any time soon, and that he’s going to practically live in the gym for the next six months.

* Punk is asked about his level of kempo and jiu-jitsu. Punk jokingly says he’s a white belt for life, but trains often with Rener Gracie. Punk said his kempo days were almost 18 years ago and doesn’t remember his rank. He’s going to Roufusport as if he knows nothing. He says he can’t just invite Rener to Roufusport because it’s not his gym, but he wants Rener Gracie in his corner.

* Punk hasn’t decided what theme to walk out to yet, even though he came out to Living Colour tonight. He wants to keep people in suspense.

* A fan compares Fedor to Daniel Cormier. Punk says he loved PRIDE FC and he thinks Daniel Cormier is fantastic but doesn’t want to compare the two.

* Punk says his WWE injuries will not play a factor in his training in the UFC.

* A fan asks Punk if he’s really been training. Punk responds jokingly by saying no and that this is all one big rib.

* Punk says that his plan isn’t for a “one and done” deal with UFC, but isn’t sure how winning and losing will affect his future plans. The fan for some reason compares Punk to James Toney.

* He’s asked if the CM in his name came from “CM Venom” a backyarder in the 1990’s. Punk says that the CM is from “Chuck Mosley” of Faith No More fame.

* Punks says Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments would not scratch his competitive itch because he can’t punch someone in the face. He reiterates that he’s completely healthy now when asked about the concussions.

* Punk sees himself as a grappler, and needs help with his striking the most. He expects Duke Roufus to help him in that department.

* A fan asks if there needs to be a more defined route for amateurs. Punk said he’s not jumping anyone in line, and he’s not getting a title shot. He said everyone stands to make a lot of money from it, although he’s not in it for that.

* Punk says the most valuable tool he can take from pro wrestling is not having the jitters in front of a big crowd. He says the technical aspects between MMA and wrestling are different, but there are similarities.
