Miz Talks About Why Fans Don’t Like Roman Reigns

0

The Miz and Summer Rae appeared alongside Sam Roberts to promote The Marine 4: Moving Target last week, and spoke about a variety of topics. One of those involved the fans and their initial negative reaction to Roman Reigns’ push.

“The WWE fans and the bloggers and the Twitter people, they all think they know everything about the WWE and what it takes to be a WWE Superstar,” Said Miz. “They think they know what’s right. They are entitled to their opinions.”

Miz would go on to say that he thinks fans want to believe that they made a superstar over the WWE making them.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is now problem, but the fact is Roman Reigns works hard. A lot of the things you read are like, ‘they system is giving him the push.’ It’s like who cares if it is or it isn’t? The guy is talented, the guy is good at what he does. If WWE ignored him they’d love him even more. They like people that it’s like ‘we made him.’ Like Daniel Bryan.”

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– We noted before that both Samoa Joe and Jim Ross were in Orlando for last week’s WWE NXT tapings and that Joe met with Triple H about coming into the company. Joe is still expected to start with NXT in June but it was described to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter as not confirmed for June just yet. This could be due to the various pre-signing tests talents have to go through. Ross also talked with the company about working on different projects together while he was there.

– Both Randy Orton and WWE United States Champion John Cena are off this weekend’s WWE live events. One tour will be headlined by Ryback, Dean Ambrose and Rusev while the other will be headlined by Roman Reigns vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. Injured Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan was scheduled to headline the tour with Ryback until he was pulled from the road.

Jeff Jarrett and Global Force Wrestling have been reaching out to a lot of talents as of late. Jarrett is reportedly going after signed talents who have their ROH or TNA contracts expiring soon and talents who are good but not under contract. Roderick Strong is said to be the biggest name they’ve reached out to but there are rumors they’ve talked to Team 3D, Chris Masters and Shelton Benjamin.

Jarrett has Scott D’Amore and Sonjay Dutt working on the office side of GFW and Dutt has been calling talents. Jarrett has reportedly offered some of the talents the possibility of working 39 dates

Regarding reports of Eric Bischoff and Jarrett saying at a recent Q&A in the UK that Bischoff will be working with GFW, Jarrett denied the story. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Jarrett said:

“If GFW and BHE (Bischoff-Hervey Enterprises) are going to work together, we will not announce it at a Q&A in the U.K. They obviously heard what they wanted to hear.”

Production Staff Reportedly Still Upset With TNA

Per Dave Melzter in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is still lingering anger from TNA production crew towards the office in regards to finances. While the checks from the February pay=per-view did eventually come, there were production people who once again complained they were significantly shortened on money. There are also complaints that the March pay-per-checks still haven’t arrived. Additionally, there is said to be unhappiness stemming from management’s constant excuses for the late pay.

Many are expecting some sort of big showdown at the 5/8 taping, with Meltzer noting the feeling is the backstage crew probably have a great deal of leverage due to the fact this is when they’re filming the live Impact and the company is taping several other episodes on the flagship show in the days following.

TNA Wrestler Threatens To Quit And Work For Jeff Jarrett? News On Taryn Terrell

Sources: Wrestling Observer Newsetter, F4WOnline

Dave Meltzer notes in this week’s Wresting Observer Newsletter that one TNA wrestler got so agitated over his late pay, he went to the office and flat-out threatened to go work for Jeff Jarrett’s new promotion if he wasn’t paid soon. Per the report, the office quickly “straightened out” the situation.

Melzter also notes that Taryn Terrell’s heel turn on last week’s Impact came about when the company realized that its three top female performers, Terrell, Gail Kim and Awesome Kong, were all being cheered by fans. The call was then made for Terrell to do a shock turn and have run as a champion heel who defends her title frequently and needs interference to win all her matches.

– Officials are looking to do “some” more Tuesday night live WWE Network specials from the SmackDown tapings like this week’s King of the Ring tournament.

– We noted before that WWE announced 14,197 for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on Sunday. The actual attendance was 11,000 but it was sold out.

– Monday’s RAW from Green Bay drew a legit sellout of 5,800 fans.

– Hulk Hogan has been announced as the General Manager of WWE’s live events in Australia this August. The following was tweeted tonight:

The “OH MY GOD!” Review: MXPW “Lords Of The Ring” 2006 And The Final Write-Up

0

Lords of the Ring 2006-04-29 from Florida Atlantic University Burrow Arena in Boca Raton, Fla

Champion: Chaz

Chris Nelson is in the parking lot and the Naturals pull up. They say they are here to get another notch in their belt and prove they are the best tag team in the world.

Kevin Kelly and Vito Denucci are standing behind what appears to be the receptionist’s desk at FAU. We are starting off with a 30 minute pre show where we will hear comments from the teams in tonight’s 8 team tag tournament. Also on tonight’s card Champion Chaz defends against Warlord. Mike Modest and Donavan Morgan were supposed to be here but have been replaced with the Naturals. The only team that we know from MXPW already is Black Market the rest is all outside teams pulled in. Also one my least favorite teams the Maximos are here tonight. Chris Nelson is outside and he is talking to Trent Acid but his partner Johnny Kashmere won’t be here tonight. Kashmere didn’t show up because they have won so many tournaments. Acid figured he would just find a partner when he got there but there is no good talent in Florida. Chasyn Rance shows up and Acid stops him and asks him to partners tonight. Back to Kelly and Denucci and they discuss more of the show. Nelson is in the arena before the show starts with the Briscoes. They don’t say much but they sure do sound stupid saying it. Back to Kelly and Denucci for more rundown. Nelson is with Heartbreak Express “Superstar” Sean Davis talks about all the titles they have held all over the world. Davis says he and “Fabulous” Phil Davis have not gotten the respect they deserve in Florida. Davis says they don’t care about the tournament cause he just wants some college girls. Kelly and Denucci talk about the Black Market. They are the first round opponent for Heartbreak Express. Nelson is with Black Market and he gets their thoughts on the tournament tonight. Shawn Murphy says it’s about time they get some recognition. Joey Machete says they can do it all and wrestle any style and tonight they will show everyone in the world that they are the best tag team in the world. Back to Kelly and Denucci and they wrap up our pre show and we go to the ring.

Kelly and Denucci are in the ring and they bring out all the teams for tonight’s tournament. All the teams come out where MXPW varsity jackets. That’s pretty awesome. Arena is VERY empty.

Black Market vs. Heartbreak Express (w/ So Cal Val) ref Chuck Hart
Black Market is the former Market Crashers. “Superstar” Sean Davis gets on the mic and does a Rick Rude robe removal gimmick. It’s funny because he has the body of “Playboy” Buddy Rose. Heartbreak Express jump from behind but are quickly sent to the floor. Black Market goes out after. Machete is with Sean. Sean with the advantage and Express make a few tags. Drop toe hold by Phil and Sean comes in with a big splash. Val gets involved. Express keeps Joey in their corner and continue to work him over. Very old school tag match here. Kelly says there is a huge traffic jam outside the arena and that’s why it’s so empty. Joey comes back and hits a flying clothesline and Shawn Murphy comes in on fire. Murphy with slams and spin busters for the Express. Val tries to throw her purse in but Murphy gets it. He doesn’t use it cause the ref sees. Meanwhile Murphy and Machete hit the sideslam/neckbreaker combo and get the win in 7.34. Sean throws a temper tantrum on the mic afterwards.

Nelson is standing behind the desk now and Modern Day Theory are sitting down in front of the desk for an interview. It looks really stupid. Scott Commodity and Preston James say they are going to go out there and show how great of a team they are.

Modern Day Theory (w/ Amy Vitale) vs. Naturals
Naturals get some nice heel heat. They go for a double suplex on Commodity but James saves him and they hit the Naturals with drop kicks. They bail to the floor. Commodity and Chase Stevens in the ring now and Theory keeps the pace going with lots of tags back forth. Commodity goes for a springboard move but Andy Douglas pulls him down to the apron. Naturals now have the upper hand. Douglas with a high knee for 2 and then he tags. Stevens comes in and hits a snap suplex and back breaker. Stevens goes up top but misses a moonsault. Both teams tag and James all over the Naturals. Theory with a double slingshot belly to back suplex for 2. So Cal Val comes out and goes right after Amy. The girls get in the ring and start a cat fight. During the commotion Douglas throws a chain at Commodity and then drops to the mat. The ref turns and sees Commodity holding it and calls for a DQ giving the Naturals the win in 10.53.

Kelly is with the SAT. They are here to prove again tonight that they are still the best tag team around. They talk about how they kind of fell off the map but they are back and better then ever. They talk about how they had built a friendship with Eddie Guerrero.

Trent Acid & Chasyn Rance vs. S.A.T. ref Chuck Hart
Acid and Rance come out to “Midnight Express”! Best song ever. Acid talks about who they are better then everyone in the tournament. They all play to the crowd for the first few minutes to see who the fans are going to cheer for. It’s actually more split then I was imagining. Trent and Rance attack from behind to swing the vote away from them. S.A.T. with double team moves on both their opponents until they bail to the floor. Joel and Rance start things off but Jose quickly tags in and hits a snap suplex. Joel back in and he beats on Rance in the corner. Blind tag by Acid and Acid runs off Rance’s back and hits a flying knee. Joel placed up top and now Rance jumps off the back of Acid and hits a super rana. Acid now stays on Joel. Acid with a nice looking blue thunder bomb. Acid hits the ropes and Rance blind tags. Acid stops and starts arguing with Rance this allows Jose to tag in and take over on Rance. S.A.T. hit an awesome looking pendulum face plant. They go for the spanish fly but Acid breaks it up. They hit a superpower bomb/super neck breaker combo but Joel breaks up the pin. Acid with a worlds strongest slam and then he and Rance argue over who gets to come off the top. They play rock paper scissors and Rance wins. As he’s climbing the Rottweilerz come down and distract them. S.A.T. dumps Acid to the floor and hit Rance with the Spanish fly for the win in 11.04.

Nelson backstage with the Rottweilers. Homicide says they are bad mofos. Low-Ki rights something on a chalkboard about how they are better then the other teams.

The Briscoes vs. Da Rottweilerz
Looks like that traffic jam still hasn’t cleared up. Brawl breaks out before the bell. Big dive by on of the Briscoes. Low-Ki starts off with some chops on Jay. Missile dropkick by Mark. Homicide tags in and gets hit with a northern lights. Homicide fakes a knee injury so Low-Ki can jump in and nail Jay. Low-Ki with lots of stiff kicks. Jay’s chest is beat ref from chops and kicks. Homicide tags in now and hits a short arm clothesline. Low-Ki back in and they hang Jay out on the top rope. Homicide with a splash off the top for 2. Jay comes back and hits a neck breaker from the second rope. Tag to Mark and he hits a clothesline for 2. T bone on Ki. Back breaker by Jay and Mark comes flying into the ring with a knee for 2. Ki and Homicide cut off the Briscoes and go for the cop killa double stomp combo but Acid and Rance come out and distracts them. Jay gets a rollup on Homicide while Mark pins Ki on the top rope and they pick up the win in 9.41 to end the first round. After the match Acid and Rance laugh at Rottweilerz. They decide to go attack but Acid doesn’t actually jump in the ring. They damn near break the neck of Rance with the double team move. A ton of officials hit the ring as Rance doesn’t move and gets stretchered out. Rance suffered concussion, separated right shoulder, and a pinched nerve.

The Naturals vs. Black Market ref Terry Anderson
Ref finds weapons on both members of the Naturals. Murphy starts with Stevens and pushes him down. Stevens tags right out to Douglas. Naturals try to double team but Murphy is to powerful and runs right through them. Machete tags in and goes to work on Stevens. Stevens can’t do anything and he tags out. Machete now all over Douglas and the Black Market dominate. Machete in with Stevens. Naturals whipped into the same corner and Black Market hit a double clothesline in the corner. Naturals land in a doggy style position to the delight of everyone, but the Naturals. Stevens attacks the leg of Machete and tags Douglas. Douglas tags and tries to come in with an axe handle but Machete punches him in the gut and both teams tag. Machete comes in with clotheslines and back drops. Murphy comes in but gets his leg caught up in the ropes and screams in pain over his knee. Machete tries to help but gets nailed by the Naturals. They go for natural disaster but Murphy trips up Douglas from the mat. Machete with a school boy and he gets the pin in 9.39 to head to the finals. Naturals attack after the match and beat on the knee of Murphy.

Briscoes vs. S.A.T. ref Chuck Hart
Jose starts with Jay. Some mat wrestling to start and the teams both tag. Both teams using a slow style to start their second match of the night. Mark gets hit with a clothesline that turns him inside out but he is able to tag. Joel also tags. Mark with a dive. Joel with a dive also. Back in the ring the Briscoes with some double team mat and flying moves. Mark in with Jose and he has the advantage they fuck something up and end up just looking at each. Sats then hit a kick to the front and back of the head of Mark. Mark ducks a line and hits an inverted atomic drop and drop kick then tags Jay. Jay comes off the top rope with a rocker dropper. Briscoes go for a double team top rope super move but Joel knocks Mark to the mat and gives Jay a super belly to belly onto Mark. Jose comes in but gets nailed with a clothesline and brain buster for 2. Mark tags in and hit a springboard doomsday but Jose gets his foot on the rope at 2. Joel comes in with a kick. Joel drops Jay on his head with a vertibreaker piledriver. Doomsday DDT by the Sat but Mark kicks out at 2! Jose misses a frog splash. Mark with a flying front kick and he goes up now. Shooting star press misses. Jose tiger bombs Mark but throws his knees underneath and it looks like Mark breaks his back! Cover and win for the SATs in 13.23.

Kenny King vs. Kahagus
King with a bunch of hip tosses and arm drags and Kahagus bails and goes for his kendo stick. Kahagus puts the stick down but back in the ring he gains control anyway. Punch, kick, nerve hold match. Kahagus with a head and arm suplex for 2. King makes his come back and goes up top but gets cut off. Kahagus with a super butterfly suplex. King though comes back from that hits a springboard blockbuster and gets the pin in 8.28.

Champion Chaz vs. The Warlord
Kelly talks about the great lineage of the MXPW title. Ummm, yea ok. Names such as Simon Diamond, D-Lo Brown, Vampire Warrior and Norman Smiley. Warlord with a bearhug. Chaz breaks out hits the ropes but gets locked back in the bear hug. Chaz breaks out and hits a drop toe hold that puts Warlord on the middle rope. Chaz with the bossman guillotine and then he comes off the top with the stage dive for 2. Warlord with a stun gun to come back. Warlord is GIANT. Body slam and elbow gets 2. Chin lock for like 23 minutes by Warlord. Chaz fights out and then goes for a piledriver but Warlord backdrops him. Chaz though hangs on and gets a sunset flip for 2. Chaz charges Warlord but gets body dropped over the top to the floor. Warlord picks up Chaz and drives him into the ring post back first. Back in the ring Warlord with a big suplex. If the fans actually gave a shit they would probably be chanting boring. Chaz is able to hit the thingy but can’t make the cover. Warlord is up first but Chaz fires away. Chaz comes off the second rope twice with clotheslines. Warlord kicks out at 2. Chaz argues with the ref and turns into a boot to the stomach followed by a power bomb. Warlord makes the cover and becomes the new champion in 11.12.

S.A.T. vs. Black Market ref Chuck Hart
We start our main event with just 8 minutes left in the DVD. All four men look pretty beat. Joel and Machete start off and Joel nails a super kick. Machete tags and in comes Murphy. Murphy with his knee taped up selling the match from the second round. SAT take out the knee and go after Machete. They quickly hit the Spanish fly but all three of them are down from the impact. Murphy barley able to make the save. Murphy goes up top but Jose cuts him off and they go for Spanish fly on him. He fights off the SAT and throws Jose to the floor and Joel into the ring. Joel swings but Murphy ducks and picks him up for a side slam. Machete comes and hits the neck breaker side slam combo and Black Market pick up a fast victory in 3.30. All four men shake hands as Black Market is presented with the trophy.

My thoughts on the show…
I enjoyed everything from the first and second rounds. The two singles matches were very slow and the tournament final was a bust. I get that both teams had just wrestled two hard fought battles but to then come out and have the finals be 3 minutes is just terrible. Overall though it was an enjoyable show worth checking out.

MXPW in conclusion

MXPW would continue to run shows on and off until at least April 7, 2007 when they ran a J Cup show. They had a show set for May 12th and Lords of the Ring 2 was to take place on June 2nd. Neither of those appear to have happened. I was contemplating not doing an “in review” article for MXPW because there was so little that I actually enjoyed. While I like an “old school” show/promotion which is what MXPW went for the lack of story lines really killed it. When a show is full of squash matches it’s only ok if the guy squashing people has someone that he will eventually fight in a big match I get to watch as a reward for sitting through all the crap. Overall there is nothing that is must see from MXPW I know I recommended a few things but that was more on a scale of what was worthy of watching when compared to other MXPW shows. Basically if you have this in your collection it’s taking up space in your DVD binder or on your hard drive and you should just throw it away/delete it. Now about that article…

Best Performers

Market Crashers— When I saw these guys on the very first show taking on Julio and Chaz I thought they were a joke tag team. Over the course of time with name changes and a manager they got more serious and put on some good matches with the Vandals.

Dennis Knight— Knight had some decent matches with Chaz, Lex Lovett and Steve Madison. He was the main heel in one of the only story lines that MXPW had while they were on TV and was real good on the mic during interviews and when he was doing guest commentary. I do wish we were able to see a little more of what happened with the Family.

Worst Performers

Lex Lovett— I was not a fan of Lovett. The company pushed him hard from the first day he he came in. He probably wasn’t the worst worker they had (see Best Match category) but I found him to be very bland. His promos which he had a bunch of were also super dull I think this is what made me hate him so much.

Best Matches

TV Champion Chris Sabin vs. AJ Styles vs. “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels — TV 4-09

Lex Lovett vs. Antonio Banks— TV 5-14

Chaz vs. Lex Lovett— TV 6-11

I feel weird having Lex Lovett in my “Worst Performers” category and then having him in 2 out of the 3 matches that I listed as the best of MXPW. Oh well, I still hate him!

Best Storylines

There were like four total story lines. We had the Family and their feud with Hack Meyers and New Jack, Apolo and Warlord (which would merge with the Familty and Meyers/New Jack feud), Market Crashers/Vandals and Chasyn Rance fighting for a spot on the roster. Had they continued running shows I’m sure we would have seen Chaz and Norman Smiley continue their feud. My pick for best story out of what we had is easily the Family and that is because of Dennis Knight as I said earlier he was one of the bright spots in MXPW.

Favorite Moment

I was seriously considering leaving this blank but when I really dug in my brain the one thing that came to mind and made me smile and laugh a bit was Alex Porteau beating the crap out of Nick Narcisistic.
