Scott Hall On Possibly Working For NXT, Helping Talents, Curt Hennig, WrestleMania, More

0

WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall recently appeared on The Kevin Gill Show. The full interview can be found at this link. You can also find the show on iTunes, Stitcher and Soundcloud. Below are some highlights:

WWE NXT:

“I’m a huge fan of NXT. Believe me, my goal is to someday have a position there. So I’m throwing it out there to whoever is listening, like Triple H.”

“I watch NXT all the time. I’m more involved in wrestling currently, then I have been in a long, long time. Because I have a son who’s on the scene, so now we gotta watch NXT because those are his peers, those are his competitors, those are his co-workers, and maybe his buddy’s down the line. That’s who he’s gonna be doing business with. We watch stuff from Japan, from the UK, so I am immersed.. I feel more immersed in the wrestling scene than ever before. And it feels really cool because Cody is so excited and so young, and I get to vicariously live through him, and say whenever you have a question, I’m here!”

WrestleMania 31:

“I was so happy to be a part of Mania, and to see the level of performances by guys and then to be there at Raw to go to see some of these young guys and talk to them and go BRO!”

Curt Hennig:

“To me, Curt (Hennig) is a magical guy. He was so unselfish, and he was influenced by Pat Patterson who is a genius. So a young Curt was around a young Pat Patterson, and these are guys who all come from the school of helping guys.. especially if the guy has a clue! Teach Em! Team Em! Teach Em! If you’re winning, some guys are like ok, I’m gonna kick out on three. The school of Pat Patterson and Curt Hennig and then later me, Shawn Michaels, Marty Jannetty and all these guys were like NO BRO. If you are going over, its your night. Bro, your gonna make a hell of a comeback on me, then beat me with your finish, and I’m gonna lay there for 20 while you stand there and let your music play. If it’s your night, it’s your night. Let the people get what they want!”

Helping out other talents:

“Ive always felt like, what we do in our industry is help. The guys who know help the guys who don’t know. I always tell any young guys, particularly my son Cody, I’m his biggest fan… I say listen to everybody, then make up your own mind, Do your own thing!”

Life:

“I didn’t always make a lot of good decisions, but my kids still talk to me, and my kids still love me, so I couldn’t of been that bad of a dad. I know that the trade off of being on the road and being a pro wrestler is that your entertaining a lot of people’s kids, while your kids are sitting at home. I did what I had to do, i was trying to to score while i could, when I was young, and then I could retire.”

Floyd Mayweather Makes History Against Manny Pacquiao

0

Floyd Mayweather made history Saturday night. In the biggest fight in well over 15 years, he soundly and decisively defeated Manny Pacquiao in a battle dubbed “Fight of the Century.” Mayweather also moved to 48-0, improving an already perfect record.

Mayweather started the fight off fast, winning the first two rounds, landing at a much higher rate than Pacquiao. As the fight continued, Pacquiao found success working Mayweather’s body while up against the ropes. Eventually Pacquiao got far too comfortable moving in a straight line, and fell prey to Mayweather’s excellent counter attacks and size advantage.

While Mayweather took home a decisive win, Pacquiao was never completely out of the fight per se. He had the sporadic excellent round several times throughout rounds 3-12, but couldn’t put it together consistently enough to stifle the game plan of Mayweather. Heading in to the final round, all Mayweather needed to do was survive.

The scorecards were read, and Mayweather took home victory number 48. He’s one shy of the landmark that Rocky Marciano set, reaching 49-0. Mayweather has one fight left on his contract, which he says will happen in September. He also said he won’t seek 50-0, and will instead retire after fulfilling that deal. It’s quite likely that Mayweather is leveraging to get a huge deal for potential retirement fight.

After the bout, Mayweather jawed at some fans who took issue with him, but then turned a 180, totally respecting Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather said “Now I see why (Pacquiao) is at the pinnacle of the sport of boxing. He pushed me.”

Pacquiao, on the other hand, drew criticism from fans and media. While being interviewed by Max Kellerman, Pacquiao said that he thought he won the fight. Kellerman, in complete disbelief, simply barked out “Why?!” Pacquiao also stated that Mayweather wasn’t bigger than him. He, in fact, is.

Mayweather cemented an already impressive legacy. You don’t have to like the man for his decisions out of the ring, but his accomplishments inside of it speak volumes. He put an end to a six-year rivalry with a victory in an exceptional fight (to some), and walked out with a nine figure paycheck. And Kane didn’t even have to interfere in this main event.

Michelle Beadle On Why She Is No Longer A WWE Fan, Blasts Triple H

Is it still about the credentials? https://t.co/gQxXyoPejZ

No. They’ve given me great seats to amazing events over the years. I’m grateful. But I’m also done now. https://t.co/ClFDNCAnUC

Floyd Mayweather Relinquishing His Titles, Mayweather – Big Show, Reporters Banned From Fight, Tyson

0

– WWE posted the highlights above from their WWE Network special, Floyd Mayweather vs. The Big Show: The Money vs. The Giant.

– Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced last night that he would be vacating the world titles that he currently holds after defeating Manny Pacquiao via unanimous decision last night. He noted that he wanted to give other fighters a chance to win those belts.

“I don’t know if it will be Monday or maybe a couple weeks,” Mayweather told ESPN. “I’ll talk to my team and see what we need to do. Other fighters need a chance. Give other fighters a chance. I’m not greedy.

“I’m a world champion in two different weight classes. It’s time to let other fighters fight for the belt.”

– We noted earlier that ESPN host and long-time WWE fan Michelle Beadle tweeted last night that she was done being a WWE fan because of Triple H’s support of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. writing, “I’ve loved @WWE for a long time. But @TripleH and his love for a serial abuser is too much. I’m turning in my fan card. #WasFunWhileItLasted”

The Wrap reports that Beadle and CNN sports correspondent Rachel Nichols were banned from last night’s fight. Beadle stated that her tweet had nothing to do with not being credentialed, writing, “They’ve given me great seats to amazing events over the years. I’m grateful. But I’m also done now.”

While Mayweather’s publicist, Kelly Swanson, denied the allegations on Twitter, Nichols released the following statement regarding being barred from the event:

After asking tough questions of Floyd Mayweather on my program, I was not offered press credentials to cover tonight’s fight. In an email dated April 23, I was told I would only be credentialed for the run-up events through the week, but in bold, italic letters the email stated “you do not have any access Saturday to any services or events.” A CNN producer revisited the issue with the Mayweather camp on April 29, confirming to Mayweather’s publicist that I would be in Las Vegas, and the publicist replied that I would still be denied a fight night credential. I was told the same thing when I arrived at the credential office in person on May 1, by two separate officials, in front of several other people. It doesn’t surprise me that now, after facing significant backlash, the Mayweather camp has reversed its position. But despite this, and other outside parties generously offering me their seats, I will not attend the fight. I will also not let fear of retaliation prevent me from asking the tough questions the public deserves answers to in the future.

Verne Gagnes creation of The Body nickname:

You have to remember both Hulk (Hogan) and I wrestled in other places before we came to the AWA. I had been wrestling five years, I wrestled in Portland, Oregon for three years, Hawaii and so lets put it this way. It was during my tenure with Verne that I became Jesse “the Body” Ventura. In fact, Verne named me that. He had lost Superstar Billy Graham a couple of years earlier and he asked me; Can you do Superstar Graham? I told him I could do Superstar Graham better then Graham, because Billy was my hero. There would not have been a Hulk Hogan or a Jesse Ventrua if there was no Superstar Billy Graham. Verne said to me that’s what we want and it was Verne that actually thought of it, he said I want to call you Jesse “The Body and I want you to pose and do all that stuff that Graham does and that’s where the birth of Jesse “The Body” came from.

Working for Verne Gagne in the AWA:

Verne had a great territory. The thing that made Verne’s territory so good was that you only wrestled about 12 or 14 times a month at the most. It gave you ample time with your family and ample time to work out and recover from injuries. I remember in Oregon I wrestled 63 consecutive nights in a row without a day off and there are guys who wrestled way more than that and beat that record like it was nothing. When you wrestled for Verne you would wrestle a day or two and then get three or four days off so it really made the Minneapolis territory at that time a wonderful place to be, if you wanted to make good money and not be on the road every day of your life.

Verne being a perfectionist:

We would be doing interviews and Greg (Gagne) would be running the interviews and we would bang through every market and have it down to like two or three markets and then Verne would come in and you would be there for six hours doing the final two markets. I would get so angry about that. At the time I lived along the Mississippi River and I would be so ticked off that I would park my car on the river bank before I would go into see my wife and kids. I look back on it now at age 63 and laugh about it but at the time it was happening Verne could literally (laughs) drive you crazy.

Teaming with Adrian Adonis as part of the East-West Connection in the AWA and WWF:

Adrian was phenomenal in the ring and I couldn’t have asked for a better and more athletic partner, he was a great wrestler and could do anything you could imagine. My only problem with Adrian was after being with him for three or four years, was outside the ring Adrian sometimes required a babysitter and I got tired of that role. I didn’t feel as a professional it was my job to make sure Adrian made the planes on time and the events on time. So he became a little dependent on me and I really didn’t like that aspect of being with him and that was one of the reasons I finally broke the tag team up. Taking care of myself is a load enough, I don’t need to be taking care of a second person and don’t get me wrong that was all stuff outside of the ring, Adrian was never a problem in the ring at all..ever.

Favorite match teaming with Adrian:

When we beat the High Flyers at the St. Paul Civic Center and I always loved that I got the pin on Greg Gagne, so it will go down in history that Jesse Ventura gave Greg Gagne the spike pile-driver with a little help from Adrian and covered him 1-2-3. That’s on the famous AWA tape that Vince has out there now, I know because I actually watched it this past winter.

Jesse Ventura also talks at great length about the difference in working for Vince McMahon Sr. and Vince McMahon Jr., beating Jerry Lawler in Memphis, the problems he has with Hulk Hogan making the transition to commentary, working with Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross, WCW not using him properly and his new internet political talk show “Off the Grid”.[spacer height=”20px”]

Chris Jericho – Stephanie McMahon Podcast Recap: Rousey, Shane McMahon, Parents, AJ, More

0

Credit: Marc Middleton for the write up

– Chris Jericho’s live WWE Network interview with Stephanie McMahon kicks off from WWE TV studios in Stamford, CT. Jericho welcomes us to the second edition of “Live! with Chris Jericho.” He welcomes his old rival Stephanie and says people want the hard-hitting questions so he’s going right to that. Stephanie just came from the annual WWE staff party and Jericho says he never knew that party existed. Stephanie says it’s just a way of saying thanks to their employees. Jericho imagines Vince McMahon walking around with a tray of h’orderves and Stephanie says he doesn’t do that. Jericho says he’s been at the studios all day and it’s “insane.” Stephanie says WWE currently has 800 employees.

Stephanie talks about being in Singapore, Beijing and Shanghai recently on behalf of WWE and as an Eisenhower Fellow. Stephanie talks about what the program is. She notes that she will be going on another trip for the program later this year. Stephanie mentioned having to defend WWE while on tour and Jericho can’t believe that they still have to defend WWE but they do. Stephanie says that’s part of her job. She touts some WWE talking points and says they’re a pioneer. Jericho asks about working for dad and she says it’s very challenging. She says Vince is exceptionally driven and passionate. Jericho says Vince is off to the side right now giving them the middle finger. Stephanie says there’s a lot of pressure on Vince’s kids to do better. She says Vince didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth and while he’s given her all of her opportunities, he still wants her to fight for it every day and that’s what she does. She talks about messing up before and says disappointing Vince is the worst. As a performer, Vince has made her re-shoot certain angles. Jericho says he has had to do that before and it makes you feel like a loser. Jericho says Stephanie is just like Vince on TV. Stephanie says her brother Shane McMahon calls her the “Vincess.” Stephanie says she’s unaware that she emulates him but she’s watched him all her life and there’s no one better.

Jericho says Vince has left the set and jokes that he scared him off. Jericho asks if people get the Chief Brand Officer mixed up with the on-screen Stephanie when she’s out working. She talks about how she tells kids at the “be a STAR” anti-bullying rallies that she plays a bully on TV but that’s not who she is in real life. They talk about her childhood and she says she did understand what her dad did. One of her earliest memories was between 3-6 years old, walking backstage and running into George “The Animal” Steele in full character. She says she was scared to death and ran back to Vince but George just started laughing. She says George was laughing as if he didn’t take her fear seriously and that confused her at the time. She says Vince also thought it was hilarious and that’s when she started putting it together. She would watch Vince announce on WWF and she had her favorites – The Killer Bees and Tito Santana. She says she gravitated more towards the heels as a kid and did not root for Hulk Hogan.

She talks about having a bond with Andre the Giant and tells a story about meeting him at age 3 and stepping into his hand. She says she noticed people always treated Andre different and that bothered her. She says when people found out she was Vince’s daughter as a kid, they treated her different also and she could relate to Andre. Jericho asks about people’s reaction to who her father is. Some thought it was cool but some were judgmental, snobby and would turn their nose up at her. Vince told her that not everyone will like her but as long as she can look in the mirror and know she’s a good person, she will be all set. Stephanie says she’s tried to live her life that way. Jericho asks if she and Shane play wrestled as a kid and she says they did. She jokes that she was probably in every wrestling hold as a kid. Jericho asks if she had any crushes as a kid. She was in love with Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard. Jericho asks how she started in the family business. She says it was what she always wanted to do and it kind of surprised Vince. She started out answering the phones at WWE headquarters, back before they had automated systems. Stephanie went from working the phones to working in various departments. She says she had to have a job every summer because her parents wanted her to learn the value of a dollar. She says she did interning for WWE back in the day and would get on the AOL chats and chat with fans. She says some figured it out. She talks about working with and observing her mom work, then spending 6 months working in Vince’s office. She then went to work in the sales office and became a low level sales person but that was around the time she started performing on TV. She says Vince forbid her to date wrestlers because it was bad for business but she feels Vince threw her together with Triple H. She talks about how once they started dating, Vince told them they couldn’t date but they got together about a year later and eventually it all worked out.

She says when the locker room found out about their relationship, most of the backlash was on Triple H. Jericho talks about how there were no limits with her character at one point and she was fine with it all. They talk about some of the angles they worked together years ago. Jericho brings up Stephanie’s breast enhancement surgery and Stephanie says it was so obvious they just wanted to call it out. Jericho talks about making jokes on her breasts at an event in Chicago after she had the surgery. Stephanie says at one time she was heavier and then lost weight but didn’t like how she looked so she made the decision to have the surgery and was proud of it. Jericho says he heard Stephanie will be the one to carry WWE into the future and not Shane but it’s because Stephanie is more like Vince. He asks how it is not having Shane here. She says they grew up together and he was her protector. She says this was a business and a passion that they always shared but Shane made the decision to go do other things and she supports that. She adds that it is hard not having him here and she misses him. She talks about how fun it is to work with Shane and how entertaining he is. Jericho asks if she still has a good relationship with Shane and she says they do. They’re planning to get together on Mother’s Day but she wishes they could spend more time together. Stephanie mentions how Linda McMahon also retired. She says the hardest things she ever had to do was slap her mom and kiss Eric Bischoff. She says she almost threw up backstage after having to slap her mom but her mom was very excited and hadn’t felt that adrenaline rush before.

Jericho talks about how Stephanie has the hardest slap in the business. She thinks the hardest one she’s delivered is the one to The Rock at WrestleMania 31 this year. Jericho asks about the segment with Rock, Triple H and Ronda Rousey. Jericho said he watched it as a fan and Stephanie ordered Rock out of the ring very convincingly. Stephanie doesn’t know what the overall plan is and we’ll see if anything ever happens but talks about how fun it was. She brings up how the fans started chanting for Ronda before the angle happened and they had the feeling it was going to work well. She talks about how she’s a big fan of Ronda and says it’s awesome how Ronda is drawing main events for UFC. Stephanie says Ronda is inspiring and she wants her daughters to look up to someone like that. She says Ronda is paving the way for women and is a legitimate badass. Stephanie calls Rousey incredible. Jericho brings up a possible match and Stephanie says she has thought about it but it’s not a plan right now. They both acknowledge the recent comments from Dana White on Rousey not being able to wrestle a match but she kind of brushes it off. Jericho asks how they incorporate some of Rousey into the current Divas. She’s excited about doing more with the Divas and is hoping to push for it everyday. Jericho asks about the #GiveDivasAChance campaign and she says it’s an organic campaign started by fans that trended for three days. She says it was so important that Vince tweeted about it. She says it’s something that definitely needs to happen. Jericho brings up when AJ Lee called Stephanie out over equality on Twitter a few months ago. Jericho say she responded diplomatically but ass if it pissed her off. She says it didn’t piss her off as much but she had to respond diplomatically. She believes the hashtag started at the same time as AJ called her out and AJ was responding to her tweet about Patricia Arquette but AJ’s response wasn’t really commenting on the hashtag campaign. Stephanie says she’s fully behind the movement. They both praise the NXT Divas and hopes it transitions to the main roster. Stephanie believes we could see Divas main event RAW again but it’s got to be the right story and they’ve got to make it happen.

They talk more about Rousey an the WrestleMania angle. Stephanie admits she enjoys being a b—h when she’s in character. She says fans want her to be the most evil, power hungry, stuck up b—h that she can be. Stephanie says she loves feeding off the crowd and getting boos is about the best part of her job. They both comment how being a heel is the best. Jericho brings up the Vickie Guerrero farewell angle and asks what she was thrown into. She says it was pudding that was mixed up by a lot of crew members and their feet earlier in the day. She says it was nasty and she ended up getting an infection in her eye. She was sad to see Vickie go for many reasons. She also felt like Vickie was an extension of Eddie Guerrero. She says it was an honor to do the farewell with Vickie and says she’s getting goosebumps talking about it. Jericho asks if it’s hard always being around her significant other. She says they’re really not around each other a lot as they travel to different WWE events besides RAW and then have different roles in the office. She says they probably do talk too much about business but they’re working on putting the phones away when they’re together. She talks about Triple H the dad and says he’s an amazing father. Jericho asks who wears the pants and she says they both do. She says her oldest daughter is very interested in the business, has trained with Natalya and is a natural heel, and even wrote a book about wanting to be a Diva. Her favorite match is the SummerSlam match with Brie because it was her first match in 11 years. Jericho thanks her for the interview and they both say it’s been fun. Jericho says Stephanie is one of the coolest people to go through all she has. He thanks her again and they toast before Jericho plugs his Talk Is Jericho podcast to end it.

Former WWE Writer On If WWE Voting Is Legit, WWE Studios Movie Receiving Theatrical Release

0

– Former WWE creative writer Kevin Eck has a blog here about WWE App voting. He noted that while he can’t vouch for the voting since he left the company, during his time with WWE from 2011 – 2014, the voting was completely legitimate. He said that creative would suggest to Vince McMahon that they rig the voting to get a desired outcome, but Vince would always refuse because it would “compromise the integrity of the voting.”

– WWE announced today that WWE Studios’ Vendetta, which stars Big Show and actor Dean Cain, hits theaters and On Demand June 12th. The movie, which is rated R, was directed by The Soska Twins, who also directed See No Evil 2.

The action-packed thriller is about a detective pushed beyond his limits who will stop at nothing for vengeance.
