Returning to Orlando and the look of the product:

I really do like the new set that we have in Orlando, I thought in a lot of ways that although Orlando can be a very polarizing subject with a lot of fans in a sense that it has been our home for a long time and that we left and came back that sometimes the quality of the audience is sometimes questioned. I thought that the last set of tapings that we did in Orlando was some really good stuff and I thought overall the product looked great. Even though I thought it was cool to be in the at the Manhattan Center, I wasn’t in love with the look of the entrance and the quality. I’ve always been a big entrance guy, I guess you can call it being more of a sports entertainment guy. I’m 28 and I was in that generation where entrances were half the product. It was such an important thing and I think that for me we tend to pay a little too close attention to the fans that are going to be there regardless and not to disparage those fans because we appreciate them, but I sometimes think that we take their feedback so seriously that we forget the feedback of the casual audience which is really the difference between WWE and everyone else. The amount of people watching WWE who are burying it or saying that I hate this or that are the ones who watch WWE no matter what and everyone else are the people who are just going to watch at this point in time. For those viewers you get two minutes to make an impression and if you have a great set and look then it gives you a better chance to build your audience.

Impact moving to Destination America:

As far as Destination America, they are a young network. Their big concern and motivation is to build that network and the viewers and drive eyeballs since they are a part of Discovery. There was a lot of discussion, where they were very clear with everyone that it was going to be a re-set and that we are going to all have to build the thing. I tweeted after one of the Bell 2 Bell shows that I was on and that I felt was very good and I said if you watch that from an objective standpoint and take away the stigma that has been attached to TNA in recent years because of all the changes, you could compare that to any wrestling show on television. We are building this from the ground up again and at the end of the day that’s all we are paid to do and that is drive viewers to the show.

His relationship with Dixie Carter and the criticism of she receives from fans:

I don’t know why but I have always seemed to have been always associated with Dixie by people “in the know”. Obviously prior to being included with her in a storyline, but even that was probably driven by the fact there was an association because this whole thing about her discovering me was blown a little bit out of proportion. It is somewhat true because I didn’t send it tapes or go for a tryout, I was found by them (TNA) and asked how do you feel about coming to work for us and be a part of our show? I was 21 years old so of course I said, “yeah that sounds great”. I did have a public profile and they were boasting on the fact the UK was just starting to blossom into a very strong market for them and I helped build that market to where it is today and I have no problem saying that.

You won’t find me saying anything negative about Dixie. At the end of the day she has helped me make a very nice living for a number of years at this point. That to me is the most important thing, when you are a pro wrestler your whole life is a gamble. Sometimes you forget with the other crap that goes on in the business that you say that for the amount of days that I work that it’s a pretty nice life. I have made a point that after my son was point to say that I have all this time to be with him and be able to do that based on the contract I have with Dixie’s company and because of her faith in me. She stuck with me when I first started and needed a lot of work but I held up my end of the deal, it’s a two way street. They give you a contract and hold up their end of the deal and pay you a nice living to do it and you hold up your end of the deal and that’s how it works. Mickie (James) and I just had a conversation about this recently, no matter what is said about her (Dixie’s) experience, she may have listened to the wrong people from time to time and made a few questionable decisions based on some influence but so has Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff as well as every other promoter has at some point. Nobody has shot and scored with every single play and sometimes I think TNA is just under such a heavy microscope as opposed to others. As a person she genuinely cares for all of her talent and is always available and that goes a long way as the owner.

Magnus also discusses his TNA World Title run, teaming with Samoa Joe, working with creative, his start in the wrestling business and the future of not only his career but where he things Impact Wrestling goes from here.[spacer height=”20px”]

TNA Airing A Three-Hour Episode Of Impact Wrestling, Dixie Carter Reality Show, More

0

– AAA star Argos worked the May 22nd TNA Impact Wrestling tapings this weekend, which could be a sign that the AAA – TNA relationship is going forward. His brother Argenis may be coming in but apparently was not there this weekend.

– We noted before that TNA President Dixie Carter had a film crew following her around at Friday’s tapings, presumably for a reality TV show that she has wanted to get off the ground for some time. Apparently the material filmed on Friday was shot so they can insert “current” footage with the existing pitch reel that was created a while back.

It was reported back in January 2014 that TNA’s production team began working on a demo reel for a potential Dixie reality TV show with the idea that it would be shopped around to networks. This reel is what the new footage will be added to and it was done by a company in Dallas that Dixie has ties to. Dixie previously tried to get on The Real Housewives of Nashville reality show but it obviously never worked out.

– Destination America is advertising a three-hour episode of TNA Impact Wrestling for Friday, May 22nd. This is the episode taped last night and that explains why there were so many matches.

The episode is scheduled to begin at 8pm EST and run until 11pm EST. A three-hour replay will air immediately after.

Reason For WWE Network’s Lack Of Classic Footage, The Authority Advertised For Raw

1

– One notable complaint from WWE Network subscribers is the lack of old footage being rolled out. According to F4WOnline.com, one major reason that WWE doesn’t add a ton of classic footage on a regular basis is because “almost nobody watches it.”

The most popular programs on the WWE Network are the specials and NXT. The most watched shows this past week were the WWE 24 episode on Roman Reigns and Chris Jericho’s chat with Stephanie McMahon. Jerry Springer Too Hot For TV and Tough Enough episodes from 2011 have also drawn strong viewer interest.

– The Authority are officially scheduled for tomorrow night’s episode of Raw.

The TV Guide preview reads: “With WWE Payback looming, The Authority, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, return in attempt to stabilize RAW.”

Stephanie has been off television since the post-WrestleMania edition of Raw due to a trip she took overseas for the Eisenhower USA Fellowship, an international leadership exchange program for outstanding professionals.

Backstage News From Billy Corgan’s First Night Working For TNA, Fans Leave Before Tapings, Hero

– Friday’s TNA Impact Wrestling tapings in Orlando were packed but many fans left after the Destination America airing was over, before the second taping began. It was said to be hard for the wrestlers to get big reactions from the crowd.

– Regarding Billy Corgan being backstage at Friday’s tapings, he’s receiving high marks for his interactions with the TNA wrestlers and how he approached them with ideas or suggestions.

– We noted before that former WWE NXT star Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno) was backstage for Friday’s tapings. He was there visiting friends with former NXT employee Rob Naylor.

JTG Says WWE Could Be Better If Triple H Put Aside His Ego, Talks Racism In WWE

0

Former WWE Superstar JTG recently spoke with Greg Beckno of WrestlingNews.co. The following highlights were sent in:

Having heat in WWE:

“We had heat from the day we stepped foot into the WWE doors.” I asked if the heat was more on Shad’s end. “Man, there’s no such thing as Shad. That’s how it is in the wrestling business when you’re in a tag team. Even if you look up stories about The Rockers. Sometimes Marty Jannetty would get into trouble but The Rockers felt the brunt of it and it was the same thing with Shad. When Shad did something then Cryme Time felt it and vice versa. If I did something then Cryme Tyme felt it.”

Did you have to deal with racism in WWE or is that something that doesn’t exist backstage anymore?

“I’m not gonna say it doesn’t exist anymore. I don’t believe WWE is racist. Right now they have the tag team champions Kofi Kingston and Big E and Xavier Woods. I wouldn’t say that they’re [WWE] racist but there’s definitely a system in place, that I believe…this is my opinion, that African American, black Superstars, can go so far. That’s from what I’ve see and that’s my perception because as of right now to this day I’ve never seen a black WWE Champion. Not the title from WCW, I’m talking about the WWE Championship. I haven’t seen a black face of the company.”

His thoughts on Triple H and whether he would be a good fit to take over the company:

“In my opinion, if Triple H could put aside his ego and his dislike for a person and focus on business then I think it could probably be a lot better. For example, I don’t think he was a big fan of Zack Ryder. Zack Ryder did everything he could to get over and he got over and when he was in MSG [at Survivor Series 2011] and The Rock was there and they were chanting Zack Ryder’s name. I wasn’t in New York [at the time] but my buddy told me that he went to Survivor Series and he was on the train and they were chanting for Zack Ryder. That was the perfect time to take advantage and make some money off of Zack Ryder. That was the perfect underdog story and it was all thrown to the side because he wasn’t favored by Hunter.”

“When you see someone try so hard to get noticed..you know Zack Ryder busted his ass and he got a lot of respect backstage and from the boys in the locker room. He got so much respect for getting over on his own and not needing the machine to push him. He got a little push but they buried him. That put a black eye on the morale in the locker room. It was like damn, if he did all that it kind of make everybody not even wanna try.”

UFC Fighter Rips Company, Josh Barnett Wins Grappling Heavyweight Title, UFC Fighter Wrestles

0

– UFC Lightweight Al Iaquinta made his professional wrestling debut of sorts recently. Iaquinta performed with a few wrestlers at a neighborhood birthday party late last month. You can see a video of the event above.

– Josh Barnett continued his dominant run in grappling promotion Metamoris this weekend. He submitted Ryron Gracie with a toehold (commonly referred to as an ankle lock in professional wrestling) to win the company’s heavyweight championship. Gracie was a late replacement for Cyborg Abreu.

Other familiar names on the show included Chael Sonnen, who went to a draw with Renato “Babalu” Sobral, after not being able to pass Sobral’s guard. UFC Fighter Joe Lauzon was submitted by black belt Dillon Danis on the show as well.

– UFC Fighters continue to sound off regarding the upcoming Reebok deal, which stands to cost a large portion of fighters a great deal of money. Light Heavyweight Ryan Jimmo was very outspoken about the deal last week on MMA Fight Radio.

“UFC, if you want to fire me, go ahead. You are not paying me very well anyway,” Jimmo said. Jimmo has fought for the promotion since 2012, going an even 3-3 during his run.
