0

[spacer height=”20px”]Recently inducted member of the 2015 Class of the WWE Hall of Fame, Bushwacker Luke Williams joins the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling. No stranger to wrestling fans worldwide, Luke was a mainstay in the World Wrestling Federation during the late 80s through the mid-90s and warmed the hearts of fans everywhere he went. But Luke alongside his partner Butch also portrayed the villainous duo of the Sheepherders for many years before taking on the more family friendly persona they would be known by and competed in some of the bloodiest and most violent brawls the wrestling business has ever seen. Bushwhacker Luke covers all of that plus brings us on the inside of his WWE Hall of Fame enshrinement and the feedback he received from the WWE Universe following the huge WrestleMania weekend.

On if he ever expected to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame:

Never would have thought we would end up in that. When we started there was no wrestling on television in New Zealand. I’m not just talking wrestling on television but television itself. On Saturday or Sunday night you would sit and listen to the Soap Operas on the radio. To promote a wrestling show you would actually go down to a radio station and promote it there or just put posters around town so when you walk the streets at lunch time, the main streets of town is where everyone congregated. It has really all come a long way. When we walked out on that stage, I looked out and saw some of our friends from 1970s in the audience like Roddy Piper, it was just so great to be on that stage. At last we are on the biggest platform in sports entertainment.

If he spoke to Vince McMahon prior to his speech:

No, no we only talked to Jimmy (Hart) and Terry (Hulk Hogan) in the morning. When we first went in the back we were just going over old times and BS’ing like it was in the 80s. It’s a completely different ballgame today.

What caused the switch from the villainous Sheepherders to the loveable Bushwackers:

When we first went up there and met with Vinny (Vince McMahon) he said to us that he wanted to make us “good guys” and Butch got up on Vince’s desk and his nose was about fifth teen inches from Vince’s nose and said; “If you can make these faces good-guys then go ahead”. Vince turned around and said check out the mugs on my top baby faces; Hogan, Jake (Roberts), Hacksaw Jim Duggan they aren’t the prettiest. He said I want you guys to be between the Moondogs and the Sheepherders but I want you as good guys. Butch said to me afterwards, that the Moondogs have been on the USA Network for five years, we were on Ted Turner’s WTBS off and on for ten years so let’s create something different. Hence, what we came up with. The marching and the licking and all of that BS. Vince gave us a new name but we came up with the characters.

The creativity of the team and the origin of the infamous Bushwacker march:

I’ve got to give it to Butch. He came up with that. We were always creative, when we first came over to North America in 1972, we were Sweet William and The Brute but he (Butch) had to change his name because the Brute here was Brute Bernard. He had been all over Canada and the States so they changed his name to Crazy Nick Carter, so it was Sweet William and Crazy Nick Carter and I led him around on a chain. I was doing that from around (19)69 to 73-74, we were doing the Beauty and the Beast gimmick at the time and we constantly changed our gimmicks. When we went back to New Zealand in the mid-70s to do the first television shows we went back as The Dream Team which later on in life I saw Vince had Greg Valentine and Brutus the Barber as the Dream Team. When we were the Sheepherders we would go to the outside and when we were out on the floor we would go “WHOA” to the people. That was the Whoa and Yay. We had done that before as heels swinging our arms in the air to sort of scare the people at ringside at the barrier. So we decided to put that into our baby face thing, knees up high and swinging the arms.

Bushwacker Luke also shares his memories of his infamous appearance in the 1991 Royal Rumble, wanting to tell more stories at the Hall of Fame, working with Andre the Giant, Stu Hart, Peter Maivia, Don Leo Johnathan and traveling through Canada.[spacer height=”20px”]

Ronda Rousey Speaks About WWE Future

0

Credit: The Fight Network

Ronda Rousey appeared on the Fight Network today to speak to John Pollock about her new book, My Fight/Your Fights. During the interview, Pollock asked her about her future plans involving WWE following her much publicized WrestleMania appearance.

Pollock noted that he interviewed UFC President Dana White shortly after WrestleMania, and White pretty much shut the door on a WWE return for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. This time, Pollock asked Rousey directly what her plans entailed.

“I don’t know. I have so much going on that you never really know. The foreseeable future is all planned out with other things,” Rousey said.

When elaborating, Rousey said an unnamed WWE legend offered thoughts on the situation that ended up sticking with Rousey.

“One of the legends in the back that I met told me something very interesting,” Rousey explained. “He said you never retire from wrestling, you just step away for a while and then it draws you back sometime later. Now that I’ve started, it’s apparently impossible to retire. Some day I will find my way back there. I don’t know how or when, but I know it’s going to happen.”

“What If…?” – What If Sid Vicious Didn’t Fail The Evil Drug Test In ’92?

1

I’m going to look back and discuss some “what if” moments that would’ve changed the history of professional wrestling. Some of the “what ifs” may be rather obvious, but I hope for a few to be unexpected and create some kind of thought and interest. I hope you enjoy the series.

In August 1991, Vince McMahon signed Sid Vicious to a contract. Sid had previously competed in the NWA/WCW and was considered to be one of the future stars for that company. Sid would referee, yes, referee the main event at SummerSlam ’91 and have an alliance with Hulk Hogan. His babyface run didn’t last too long as he would develop a heel persona at the Royal Rumble in January ’92 and officially turn on Hogan at the next months Saturday Night Main Event by ditching him in a tag match against Ric Flair and the Undertaker.

Sid was only in the World Wrestling Federation for roughly seven months, and he was in the main event at WrestleMania VIII in April ’92. In an attempt to seemingly keep him strong, he lost to Hogan by disqualification. After the event, it was apparent that he was going to feud with the Ultimate Warrior but it was revealed that Sid had actually failed a drug test. He was let go from his contract and would not appear on WWF television for three years.

So, what if Sid hadn’t failed his drug test? What could we have seen?

Obviously, he would have had a lengthy feud with the Ultimate Warrior. I’m not sure if they would have dragged it all the way out to SummerSlam in August, but it’s possible. Yeah, the match wouldn’t have had been all that great, but it would’ve brought people out to the shows. I’m looking at the depth on the babyface side for the WWF at ’92, and there seems to be some decent opponents for Sid. After he feuds with Warrior, where would he go?

It’s actually rather difficult to book Sid at this point. The WWF was really directing their style towards their program around guys who could consistently deliver good matches. As we all know, Sid isn’t likely to produce a good match no matter who he wrestlers, especially so early into his career. I’d probably have Sid lose his feud against Warrior and end up in the under card for a little while. I just don’t see a feud with a guy like Bret Hart or the British Bulldog really being a draw. The same goes for Randy Savage and the WWF World Championship. That just doesn’t scream money to me. I do believe that Sid would be a fine heel on the under-card and the matches are more appealing to me.

There are three feuds that are interesting feuds to me. I believe the three top feuds to put Sid in for 1992 and most of 1993 would involve the Undertaker, Crush and the Big Bossman. Yes, I know that Bossman was gone from television in early ’93, so you can feed him to Sid in the summer of ’92. I suppose the character of law enforcement battling against destructive heel like Sid. That would probably be a fine match for SummerSlam, actually.

I think I would then turn to a new feud after that. I’m figuring that the next good feud to go to would be working with Crush. They would captain teams at Survivor Series, which could involve Bossman as well to have the stories come together. In order for the next feud to really become something important, Sid would need to dominate the match and probably eliminate everyone involved.

Sid’s next feud would be with the Undertaker. I’d have it be set up at the Royal Rumble and they could proceed to have a match at Mania IX. Now, I wouldn’t have Taker win it clean. I’d probably have him win by disqualification and have Sid take him out of action for several months with a post match attack. That would allow them to have another match at SummerSlam and Taker putting Sid away in the summer in a casket match.

That would take care of just about two years of Sid. Those are the main feuds that I would have him part of and it seems to be rather uneventful to me. I think it was a blessing in disguise that he failed the drug test and couldn’t compete for the company. He just didn’t fit in with the roster. What would you have done with Sid at this time? Is it completely different compared to mine? Feel free to share your thoughts.

I always hate that spot cause if I guy grabs the ropes to block something the hold should be broken. Smiley hits the ropes and Bagwell grabs his foot distracting Smiley just enough to get hit with a jaw breaker. Bagwell and Swinger tag a few times while Disco and Borash talk about all the other random black dudes Norman “looks” like. Fucking racists. Well the Warren Moon comparison is pretty spot on. Smiley finally able to make the tag and and match breaks down as all four guys go at it. Norman does the big wiggle on Swinger but gets hit with a low blow. These guys have had two entertaining matches on WWA PPV so far. Puppet with the advantage early on. Teo with a head scissor and he beats away on Puppet as the crowd breaks into a loud “Teo” chant . Jones goes for a chokeslam on Jeff but the ref gets pulled into the way. This must make Jones really mad because he grabs the ref and hangs onto him for like 3 minutes and then throws him to the mat. Jeff comes back into the ring with a guitar and nails him with his guitar for the win in 5.43.

Simon Diamond vs. Sabu vs. Saturn (w/ Midajah)

Midajah and Saturn leave. Diamond with a reverse DDT for 2. Diamond comes off the top but Sabu throws a chair at him and then hits the triple jump moonsault for the win in 16.24.

Scot D’Amore is with Sting to get some words on the main event. Sting says pretty much the same shit as Luger.

Sting vs. Lex Luger
Luger charges and tries to attack Sting from behind but Sting moves. Drop kick and Luger bails to the floor. Luger back in and Sting hits a clothesline sending Lex back out to the floor. Luger gets a mic and says some stuff including that they are in “Glasgow, England”. Sting gets on the mic to let Luger know they are actually in Scotland. Luger pulls Sting out of the ring and Sting misses a stinger splash and hits the guard rail. Back in the ring Sting comes back but Luger gets his knees up on a splash. Both men collide coming off the ropes and then Sting falls with a head butt to the nuts of Luger. Sting with an inverted atomic drop followed by clotheslines and a face plant. Sting goes for a stinger splash but Luger pulls the ref in the way. Jeff Jarrett hits the ring and nails Sting with a guitar but Luger only gets a 2. Luger goes for the torture rack but Stings’s foot hits the ref knocking him back down. Jarrett again in the ring nails Sting with another guitar and puts Luger on top for the pin and title in 7.17.

Borash and Disco wrap it up.

My thoughts on the show.
This felt like the type of show that if you were at live you would leaving talking about how it was fun and then not remember anything at all the next morning. Everything was just so blah. Also how do you have Sting not win his first TV match back in 18 months!!

He says he’s going to do it again, but this time, Zayn isn’t coming back.

Backstage News On Possible Plans For The Two WWE Elimination Chamber Main Events

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– Plans haven’t been finalized for the two Elimination Chamber matches set for May 31st on the WWE Network yet but the Chamber for the WWE Tag Team Titles could see six teams instead of three teams as some have speculated – The New Day, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, The Prime Time Players, either The Lucha Dragons or Los Matadores and either Curtis Axel & Damien Sandow or The Ascension. WWE officials had been debating whether to go with six teams or less.

The working idea is that both wrestlers on each team would be put into a pod together and released at the same time. The match would be fought tornado style with every Superstar in the ring at once.

Regarding the Chamber for the vacant WWE Intercontinental Title, it will likely include Neville, Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler and King Barrett with two other Superstars.

Backstage Reaction To A Possible 2016 WWE Hall Of Fame Induction For Owen Hart

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

We noted before that WWE is going ahead with a DVD on Owen Hart, even though Martha Hart is not supporting it.

WWE also discussed a 2016 Hall of Fame induction for Owen but Martha obviously wouldn’t support it. They could still do it but many feel it’s not worth the controversy if Owen’s widow isn’t supporting it.
