CM Punk Teases Wrestling Samoa Joe Again For AIW, Gail Kim Disses Vince McMahon

0

Former WWE Champion and current UFC Fighter CM Punk claims he’s done in the wrestling ring, but that didn’t stop him from posting a few light hearted tweets about wrestling again on Thursday night.

Newly signed NXT star Samoa Joe is booked to face indy star Johnny Gargano at this weekend’s Absolute Intense Wrestling show in Cleveland, Ohio. AIW co-owner John Thorne posted a tweet joking that he’d cancel Johnny Gargano from the show if CM Punk decided he was willing to come out of retirement to face Samoa Joe at the show.

Punk replied with a simple “How much?,” Which prompted AIW to post a tweet, again joking that they’d need to crowd source to afford CM Punk, who has been out of the ring since his last WWE appearance at Royal Rumble 2014.

The two sides went back and forth, in tweets you can see below. CM Punk and Samoa Joe haven’t faced off in nearly ten years, since their time in ROH. As of now, CM Punk continues training at Roufusport in Milwaukee in preparation for his UFC debut.

@JohnThorneAIW @JohnnyGargano @SamoaJoe how much?

@JohnThorneAIW @JohnnyGargano @SamoaJoe that was for sure going to be one of the conditions.

– In response to a fan tweeting her about women main eventing a WWE NXT live event, TNA Knockout and former WWE Diva Gail Kim wrote the following about Vince McMahon:

At least @TripleH has a clue on how to book women. @VinceMcMahon needs a clue. #sexist #WomenCanMainEventAnyDay https://t.co/oPoB05B9kl

New WWE Seamster Suffers Injury At Last Night’s WWE NXT TV Tapings

0

At last night’s WWE NXT TV tapings they taped a match with The Vaudevillians vs. Jason Jordan and a wrestler wearing a partial mask, Mikaze. The match ended when Aiden English got a hot tag and went to work on Mikaze. Mikaze went down and the referee stopped the match, which appeared to come as a genuine surprise to the participants. Mikaze was down for several minutes while local EMT’s, WWE referees and WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann checked on him. He finally was helped to his feet and to the back about 10 minutes after going down.

Mikaze is Northeast indie wrestler Sarath Ton, who we noted was recently hired as WWE’s seamster following Sandra Gray’s departure. It’s possible Mikaze was receiving a tryout last night.

Mikaze is also the fiance of NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks. We noted earlier that Sasha did not work last night’s tapings but it’s unknown yet if Mikaze’s injury had anything to do with that. His injury came in the final taping so her absence is likely unrelated.

Dixie Carter’s First Tweets Since Cancellation Reports, Dave Meltzer On TNA Threat And Billy Corgan

0

– TNA President Dixie Carter posted her first tweet today since Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer that Destination America has canceled TNA. She did not mention Meltzer’s report, and just plugged upcoming shows:

A big 13th Anniversary planned starting with a LIVE @IMPACTWRESTLING Wed, June 24 on @DestAmerica & a LIVE #Slammiversary Sun, June 28

— Dixie Carter (@TNADixie) May 22, 2015

HUGE Cage Main Event TOMORROW as we air Slammiversary 2014 on @DestAmerica. Did I mention it is FREE? Spread the word! RT!

— Dixie Carter (@TNADixie) May 22, 2015

– Once again, you can read Meltzer’s full, detailed report in The Wrestling Observer (subscription required) by clicking here.

– As noted, TNA issued the following statement this afternoon regarding the report: “It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us.”

Meltzer addressed TNA’s statement, writing on Twitter:

@KevinGedert2 Why haven’t they threatened me is the question. Why haven’t they addressed one thing written?
— Dave Meltzer (@davemeltzerWON) May 21, 2015

– As noted, Billy Corgan knocked Meltzer’s report earlier, writing, “It wouldn’t be so bad if the whole truth was being reported and the person reporting wasn’t being worked himself by a sloppy angle… AND let’s remember that I speak from experience, having had things written about me by Meltzer that he never got a statement from me about”

Meltzer compared Corgan’s response to that of Vince Russo when Russo accidentally emailed creative instructions to Mike Johnson of PWInsider meant for Mike Tenay. Russo had been secretly working for TNA as a consultant, and tried to play off the email to Johnson as a work before finally admitting that he was working for TNA. Meltzer wrote:

Sort of sad about Corgan, his words are almost identical to Russo about Mike Johnson when he did that story last year.
— Dave Meltzer (@davemeltzerWON) May 22, 2015

I’ll be fine being the Mike Johnson, but quite sad he’s the Vince Russo.

What Have TNA Talents Been Told About Cancellation Rumors?, TNA Taping Note, Slammiversary

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, TNA talent have been told that they’ll respond to the Impact Wrestling cancellation rumors at the next television tapings. As of now, the next date for tapings is over a month away, set for June 24-28.

TNA still also has a pay-per-view scheduled for June 28, which will be Slammiversary. The company has four full days of Impact Wrestling tapings leading up to the show, with presumably some of the episodes airing after the live pay-per-view.

Last night Billy Corgan noted on Twitter that he’d just finished up two days worth of meetings for TNA and was very excited for the future of the company. This was shortly before rumors of TNA’s cancellation by Destination America surfaced.

Thus far Destination America nor parent network Discovery have made a statement on the status of Impact Wrestling or the cancellation reports.

TNA Wrestling Issues Statement Regarding Cancellation Rumors, Threatens Legal Action

Amidst rumors that Destination America is planning to cancel Impact Wrestling, TNA has issued a statement, and threatened possible legal action.

“It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us,” said the statement.

Yesterday, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Destination America planned to cancel TNA Impact, with the source being an internal email among employees at the channel. On Wrestling Observer Live today, Bryan Alvarez said the e-mail was dated several days prior to Destination America announcing Impact would be moving to Wednesdays, and Dave Meltzer of the Observer noted that this is very much an ongoing situation.

Talking to Vince McMahon about hosting a Jerry Lawler vs. Andy Kaufman match in the WWF:

When Vince McMahon started building the franchise of the WWF, Andy definitely had talked to Vince. We had gone to Vince McMahon and talked a few times about trying to get a bout between Jerry Lawler and Andy Kaufman but at that time Vince wanted to stay away from Hollywood and Andy wasn’t “Hollywood, he was the anti-hero. Vince didn’t realize Andy was an anti-Hollywood guy and it never happened. Which Andy had always wished that it did.

The aftermath of the infamous Andy Kaufman vs. Jerry Lawler match at the Mid-South Coliseum:

You had all of these people, literally thousands of people that were out of their minds with this blood lust and when (Andy) Kaufman was knocked out cold he was taken to the hospital and I was left standing there alone and people start yelling “that’s his buddy” and now I am unprotected and have to make myself get back down the aisle to the dressing room where all my stuff is so I can get the hell out of there. It was the longest walk I’ve ever had to do in my life and I realized I wasn’t going to make it out alive, there was such hatred and blood lust, I was going to be another victim and what I did since I am not a big guy, I started walking back and realized this is not good and everyone spotted me. So I said to myself “you better do something smart here” and I looked for the biggest guy I could see and I walked right up to him and I made believe I was Buddy Rogers and I slapped this guy as hard as I can in the face and this big guy was shocked and everyone else was so shocked by my behavior (but) I was acting like a brute so I would be able to swagger back to the dressing room without anyone confronting me because they all then thought that this guy is just nuts. Once I got in the dressing room I locked the door jumped out the window and took a cab to the Memphis Hospital where Kaufman was.

How the David Letterman appearance came about:

When Andy was in the hospital they had done X-Rays and he had sprained his neck very badly. He was there for a number of days and when they said he was going to be ok, they said just watch your neck because he had a terrible sprain and he could have had a broken neck and I don’t think Jerry Lawler would have cared and I think that Jerry was shocked he didn’t have a broken neck. Andy then wore a neck brace for the next 6 months. It made the papers all across the country, it was probably the biggest item that didn’t just make the theatrical pages but it made the sports pages all across the country. It really took for the first time, professional wrestling and really gave it its biggest hit yet. So of course, Letterman had seen this, he had Andy on the show many times and his people called up Andy’s management and called up Jerry Lawler’s management and said; “Andy, would you be willing to go on David Letterman’s show and bury the hatchet with Jerry Lawler?” So, we all went to New York. Letterman had shown the clip from Memphis and everything was kind of going nice. Everyone understood they were both going to apologize and even Andy who had the neck brace on admitted to David that it was a mistake to ever wrestle a man and he learned his lesson. But it didn’t take much for it to turn into a shouting match again. One thing led to another and Jerry kind of insinuated that Andy may be gay or something and that was it and when Andy started yelling at him, Jerry couldn’t take it anymore and got up and we all thought Jerry was going to leave but Jerry got up and he just put his arm back and let it go and he slapped Andy right out of his chair. It was a live show and everyone went crazy. Security ran in, the camera operators didn’t know what to do, Letterman jumped up and Kaufman ran off only to come back in and Andy who never swore, started swearing like a sailor and of course they beeped it for TV. They broke to commercial and security came in and of course the next day everyone in America was talking about it.

Bob Zmuda also discusses how he and Andy put together the antagonizing Memphis promos, working with Buddy Rogers, Andys motives for wrestling women, Andys history as a wrestling fan, Saturday Night Live and his book: Andy Kaufman, The Truth, Finally

ROH Star Turned Down WWE Tough Enough Deal To Re-Sign, More Details

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

We reported earlier this week that ROH wrestler and former NFL football player Quinn “Moose” Ojinnaka re-signed with Ring of Honor. Now, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed more details about his negotiation period.

Moose had been heavily recruited by Jeff Jarrett and Global Force Wrestling, who wanted to build around the 31-year old as a major star for the company. The promotion wouldn’t offer anyone full contracts until they closed a TV deal, which hasn’t happened yet.

WWE also recruited Moose, but they wanted him for their upcoming Tough Enough program, for what the Observer called a “male ringer” for the show. There was no promise of a contract if he didn’t win the show, but a possibility was still there.

As for now, Moose will continue to work for Ring of Honor, and has also signed on to do live events, but not TV tapings for Global Force Wrestling. He’ll also be appearing on the AAA Lucha Libre World Cup IPPV this Sunday in Mexico.

The feeling is that Moose will continue to get a big push up the card in Ring of Honor, despite the fact that his winning streak was ended in a match with Cedric Alexander last week.
