Terry Funk Forced To Pull Out Of Match, Scott Hall And GFW, Has Chael Sonnen Signed?

0

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk, who turns 71 next month, was scheduled to team with Genichiro Tenryu in Osaka, Japan on May 30th but the match has been canceled due to Funk still being in rough shape following a lengthy battle with viral pneumonia. Dory Funk Jr. was already going to Japan to work so he will be replacing Terry in the match, teaming with Tenryu and Nosawa to take on Suwama, Atsushi Aoki and Hikaru Sato.

– While there are rumors that Scott Hall left Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling due to a potential gig with WWE NXT, Hall was pulled from GFW as soon as TMZ broke the story about him being drunk at a festival in New Jersey. That is the reason Hall is no longer with GFW.

Regarding GFW, word is that there is no TV deal in place and while they’re looking at using Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen as announcers, Sonnen hasn’t actually signed his deal. JR also hasn’t signed a deal but that’s been known. Sonnen has been recording videos for GFW and appeared at their press conference but is still not signed, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

This will be the final week of LU going head to head with just NXT, as next week Ring of Honor Wrestling also joins the fray!

We see a recap of Mil Muertes and what led to his demise. Black Lotus also arrives, and Chavo Guerrero tells her that her trainer wanted her to be protected. He also says his family hates Cueto’s family as much as she does.

Johnny Mundo vs. Aerostar

Mundo is full on heel now. Aerostar hits a version of the 619, and follows up with a springboard splash for two. Aerostar stops a Mundo dive with a basement dropkick and hitting one of his own. Mundo returns the favor with a kick to the knee and drops Aerostar’s head across his knee for a a two count. He then hits a slam and locks on a choke.

Aerostar finally makes it to the ropes and hits a knee strike off the ropes for two. He stops the Starship pain, but gets pummeled with punches instead. Mundo reverses a DDT with a Northern Lights suplex an hits Starship Pain for the win.

Winner: Johnny Mundo via pinfall (Starship Pain)

Vampiro is talking to Sexy Star who says she’s not scared of Penatgon Jr. It’s announced that she’ll take Pentagon Jr on next week in a submission match.

Lucha Underground Championship
Prince Puma (c) (w/ Konnan) vs. Hernandez

Prince Puma gets caught with a big flapjack after evading Hernandez for a while. Puma is trying to chop Hernandez down early on and bounces him outside to the ring. Puma also hits a big crossbody that’s good for two, but Hernandez answers with one of his own and ties up Puma in the ropes.

Hernandez really starts working over Puma, but Puma kicks him. This success is short lived as Hernandez sends Puma all the way across the ring with a Cracker Jack for a two count. Hernandez follows up with a big backbreaker and a powerbomb, both of which earn a two count. Fortunately for Puma he prevents a big Border Toss.

Puma grabs a chair and blasts Hernandez with it. Instead of taking the countout he hits a huge dive to the outside. Hernandez goes back to the Border Toss and scores on it, landing it to the apron. He tries another towards the balcony, and Puma hits another insane dive all the way to the floor! A big 630 misses, and Hernandez hits a rack drop. Puma answers with a superkick that almost gets the pin. Finally a 630 does the trick. Great match.

Winner: Prince Puma via pinfall (630) to retain the Lucha Underground Championship

We get the announcement that the Death Match between Muertes and Fenix will main event the show.

Death Match
Fenix vs. Mil Muertes

Muertes blasts Fenix in the face with a right hand as he tries to dive. Muertes hits a powerslam, but Fenix goes on the offensive briefly with a moonsault. Muertes then clotheslines and chairshots Fenix.

Fenix dives off of the barricades but cant even get a two. The two battle back and forth until they’re on the top of Cueto’s office. Muertes powerbombs Fenix through the roof. Woah. Muertes wins.

Winner: Mil Muertes

That was insane. Every week it’s something crazy on this show. The Disciples of Death come and carry Fenix off.

– We see the Crew in Cueto’s office and they’re asked to make a sacrifice. Castro is picked, and I guess Cuerto’s brother eats him or something. Or kills him. Either way, it was really creepy.

TNA held a conference call with talents this afternoon and while we’re still waiting on details, we do know that officials said they couldn’t comment on their future with Destination America and said they couldn’t answer those type of questions right now.

Other issues were discussed but it was said by F4Wonline.com that nothing of importance was talked about.

As you can imagine, there are many TNA talents upset about being left out of the loop.

As noted above, TNA officials said they couldn’t address the Destination America reports during today’s conference call with talents. However, TNA President Dixie Carter did tell the company that TNA has a good relationship with Destination America. This has also been confirmed by PWTorch.com.

Dixie added that they are planning for 2016 but would not comment on reports of Destination America having an “out clause” in September due to legal advice. Dixie did add that out clauses in TV deals are common.

The call reportedly went over 90 minutes with Dixie giving a 10 minute introduction. Talents spoke for about 30 minutes and needless to say, there were some angry talents on the call.

Ring of Honor will debut next Wednesday on Destination America at 8pm ET, leading into Impact Wrestling, which moves to Wednesdays that night. The show is scheduled to air for 26 weeks.

– Dany Garcia, manager of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and co-founder of their production company, 7 Bucks Productions, is now managing Eva Marie as well. – Kevin Owens comes out to Sami Zayn’s music while wearing John Cena’s shirt to a chorus of boos. He said he would make an NXT open challenge, but he’s not insecure like John Cena. He thinks people should earn their title shots.

Owens says the only reason he backed down from Joe was to give fans a positive note to go home on. Regal comes out and complains about Owens hurting everyone on the roster.

Solomon Crowe comes out and calls Owens a piece of crap. Owens challenges Crowe to a match, and Regal agrees.

– We see the footage of Itami being injured last week.

Emma (w/ Dana Brooke) vs. Bayley

Emma has a new song and entrance. She tries to bully Bayley around, but Bayley turns things around and punches her in the face. Emma quickly turns the tides and methodically assaults Bayley. Emma lands a ponytail snapmare, then pulls Bayley’s hair.

Emma taunts Bayley, but eats a snap suplex. Emma pulls Bayley off the top rope and applies the Emma Lock for the win.

Winner: Emma via submission

– They air the Becky Lynch mini-bio.

Blake & Murphy (w/ Alexa Bliss) vs. Elias Samson & Mike Rallis

After a Rallis headlock, the tag champions take over and work over the youngster. A slingshot senton sets up a rear chinlock and then a two count.

Winners: Blake and Murphy via pinfall (frog splash)

Blake and Murphy continue the beat down after the match, with Bliss hitting a Sparkle Splash. Alexa Bliss says she’s going to send Carmella back to the dump she came from.

James Storm On Destination America Cancellation Reports, What Dixie Knows

0

The v2wrestling podcast recently interviewed James Storm, which you can listen to here. During the interview, Storm addressed the recent reports of Destination America possibly dropping TNA this September.

“I’ve been told by the higher-ups that there’s nothing to worry about,” Storm said (thanks to Adam Davey of v2wrestling.com for the transcription). “TNA is owned by a billion dollar company, Panda Energy, so the money is going to be there. They talk about the network saying this and that. Every network wants great ratings, but the problem is that it takes time for the casual wrestling fans and the viewers to find Destination America. A lot of people don’t have that channel, or it’s a premium channel and they have to pay for it. My mom actually couldn’t find it until like a month ago. So it’s just taking people a little longer to find the Destination America channel.

“Nobody really knows except for the network and Dixie Carter, that’s how I look at it. Dixie cares about the wrestlers like they’re her own kids. If something’s going to go down, she’s going to have a meeting and talk about it with all of the guys, so that’s how I look at it.”
