Why? It is for The Ice Bucket Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>What is it? The Ice Bucket Challenge is to help spread awareness in fighting ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig&#8217;s disease) a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Associated Press, the &#8220;months-old&#8221; Ice Bucket Challenge began drawing attention after Pete Frates, a former Boston College baseball player who was diagnosed with ALS two years ago, used the campaign to raise awareness about his condition. &#8220;I am nominating myself for the #icebucketchallenge cuz I can,&#8221; Frates wrote on Facebook at the end of July. Frates then challenged people to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, The Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral as various celebrities have been posting videos of themselves pouring ice water on their heads to raise awareness about ALS.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I accept the ALS ice bucket challenge from no twitter Matt Cooke of the @mnwild and the no good @BaileyLAKings. On my way to get a bucket&#8230;,&#8221; Punk wrote on Twitter on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Punk was criticized for lending support to the cause: &#8220;Blocking people who feel the need to s&#8211;t on raising ALS awareness. What is wrong with you? Ice bucket on the way.
