WCW Saturday Night 3/4/1995

Written by: Bob Colling

World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
Date:3/4/1995
From: Atlanta, GA

Matches:
1.)The Nasty Boys defeated Tracy Benton & Bob Starr
2.)Meng defeated Steve Neely
3.)Lord Steven Regal defeated Mike Davis
4.)WCW Television Champion Arn Anderson defeated John Crystal
5.)WCW United States Champion Vader defeated the Patriot by disqualification

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.After Tony and Bobby talk about what happened between Hogan and Vader last week, we go to the ring to see the Nasty Boys in action for the forth time in five weeks. They are really overexposing the Nasty Boys in my opinion. Anyway, they obviously win the squash match when Saggs leaps off the top rope to hit an elbow drop. After the match, they are interviewed by Mean Gene. Nasty Boys will be meeting Harlem Heat in a Texas Tornado match at Uncensored. Saggs says they are going use a lot of weapons and the champs will be going down. Knobbs doesn’t think Harlem Heat can handle them in a Texas Tornado match.

2.This is the in-ring debut for Meng, who now has long hair. Meng knocks Neely out in maybe ten seconds with a savant kick to win the match. That might be the quickest debut ever. After the match, Col. Robert Parker goes over to Mean Gene to be interviewed. Parker says that Jim Duggan needs to be worried. He will be wrestling Meng at Uncensored in a marital arts match.

3.Regal continues his winning ways by forcing Davis to submit to the Regal Stretch. After the match, Regal talks to Mean Gene. Regal says he new years resolution is to get here an hour earlier to hate Mean Gene longer! He can’t find a tag partner to go for the tag team titles. His quest will continue. Bobby Eaton comes over and volunteers to be Regal’s partner. Eaton is chewing gum and acting king of silly, which Regal doesn’t like. So, Regal declines the offer and rips on him once Eaton leaves.

4.WCW Television Champion Arn Anderson planted the jobber with a DDT to pick up the easy victory.

5.The Patriot squares off against the number one contender, and WCW US Champion, Vader. I don’t see Marcus Alexander Bagwell at ringside, but Ric Flair is by Vader’s side. That just shows you how bad of a partner Bagwell is. Vader worked on Patriot early on with several punches but Patriot fought back with a few lefts. Patriot comes off the ropes to drop Vader with a cross body. Vader misses a sit down splash and Patriot has some momentum. Vader uses his big chest to stop a charging Patriot. Vader drives Patriot down to the canvas with a choke slam. Flair attacks Patriot on the floor while the referee is distracted. Vader hits a middle rope splash and follows up with a big splash but doesn’t want the cover. Vader hits the power bomb and here comes Hulk Hogan who attacks Vader with his strap and clotheslines Vader to the floor! Hogan is choking Vader with the strap. Jimmy Hart prevents Ric Flair from entering the ring! The Nasty Boys and Jim Duggan come out to pull Hogan off of Vader.

6.Tony Schiavone interviews WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan who says that was only a small sample of what will happen at Uncensored. Hogan is going to be the maniac he needs to be and he will have a surprise for Vader.

Final Thoughts:
I thought this was a good episode. Considering it was only an hour long, WCW didn’t have to repeat anything and kept it simple by just having wrestling matches. Honestly, I think if Saturday Night was just an hour long every week, it would be a lot better. I liked how they debuted Meng here as he knocked out the jobber with one strike. If they continue to do that then he could rise up the rankings pretty quickly I would think.

WCW Saturday Night 3/11/1995

World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
Date:
3/11/1995
From: Atlanta, GA

Matches:
1.)Randy Savage defeated Bob Starr
2.)Blacktop Bully defeated Tim Horner
3.)Alex Wright defeated WCW Television Champion Arn Anderson by count-out
4.)WCW United States Champion Vader defeated Bobby Knight

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.Nick Bockwinkel announces that Hulk Hogan has been banned from appearing on any WCW programming until after Uncensored. I guess because of what Hogan did to Vader last week.2.Randy Savage won his squash match following a top rope elbow drop. After the match, Savage is interviewed by Mean Gene. Savage says that it was his wake up call when Avalanche attacked him a few weeks ago. Savage will do whatever it takes to bring Avalanche all the way down. He will do whatever it takes at Uncensored to win.

3.I should note that Hulk Hogan appears on the program during the Control Center segment. So, that announcement by Bockwinkel was ridiculous.

4.Lord Steven Regal talks to Mean Gene and is in a very serious mood. Regal says he doesn’t care if he offended anyone for insulting Bobby Eaton last week. Regal calls Eaton a moron who struggles to put a sentence together. Eaton walks over and asks if he still wants a partner. Eaton gets fed up when Regal looks to grab his neck and they end up agreeing to a match for next week on Saturday Night.

5.Blacktop Bully had no problem against Tim Horner this week. Bully won by submission with the Breaker 1-9. Bully screams that he is going to break Dustin Rhodes arm. After the match, Mean Gene talks to Col. Robert Parker and Blacktop Bully. Bully says he does whatever he wants in his life and wants Rhodes to be ready for their match taking place inside the back of a moving truck. Parker hypes up Meng as being the greatest marital arts expert ever.

6.Alex Wright looks to extend his undefeated streak and win championship gold when he meets WCW TV Champion Arn Anderson. Anderson controls Wright with a shoulder block and scoop slam. Wright dropkicks Anderson off the top to the floor and follows up with a cross body over the top rope onto the floor where he delivers a second dropkick! Wright drops Anderson with a couple of upper cuts. Anderson is struggling to get any kind of momentum as he bails to the floor after a head scissors by Wright. Anderson drops Wright throat first across the top rope to get the cheap advantage. Wright misses a missile dropkick off the top and crashes to the canvas. Anderson catapults Wright throat first into the bottom rope to maintain the advantage. Wright nails Anderson with a spinning heel kick and a gets near fall after a belly to belly suplex. Wright leaps off the middle rope to hit Anderson with a cross body! Johnny B. Badd comes out when Anderson bails to the floor and Badd knocks him out with a left hook while wearing boxing gloves. The referee was distracted by Parker and ends up counting Anderson out to give Wright the count-out victory. That was actually a really fun match.

7.Vader finishes off the show winning his squash match following a power bomb. After the match, Mean Gene talks to Vader and Flair with the jobber at their feet. Vader says that Hogan is responsible for what he just did to the jobber. Vader claims he is the uncrowned WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Flair talks about Uncensored having no rules and that it will mark the end of Hogan!

Final Thoughts:
I thought it was a good episode this week, again. It was short and the Anderson/Wright match actually surprised me since they went all out for it. The whole Hogan being banned from television for maybe eight days is ridiculous, especially when less than a minute later he appears with a promo. That’s just bad planning by WCW. Nonetheless, it was a solid show.

10.)Meng defeated Barry Houston
11.) Dustin Rhodes & Johnny B. Badd defeated Pretty Wonderful

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.Harlem Heat opened up the action this week on Saturday Night. Booker T got the pin after hitting the Heat Seeker.

2.We see two videos that promote the Harlem Heat/Nasty Boys and Anderson/Badd matches at Uncensored tomorrow night.

3.Speaking of the WCW TV Champion, Arn Anderson had a squash match this week. Anderson quickly won the match following the DDT. After the match, Anderson talks to Mean Gene. Col. Robert Parker compares Anderson’s match with Badd to the match between Ali and Inoki a few years ago. Anderson calls Badd a coward for attacking him last week. Anderson says that Badd isn’t the man he thinks he is. Anderson says Badd has stepped into his house and he is going hurt him real bad.

4.Brian Pillman is back in singles action and won his squash match following a top rope big splash.

5.It’s time for the debut of Sgt. Craig Pittman on Saturday Night. He is a heel drill sergeant. Pittman won the squash with a cross arm breaker. He is one crazy man.

6.Regal takes Eaton down early on and taunts the fans. Eaton is apparently trying to convince Regal they should be partners, at least that’s what the announcers are indicating. Regal continues to work on Eaton with uppercuts. Eaton fights back with a backdrop and clothesline followed by a swinging neck breaker! Eaton looks for the top rope leg drop but Regal bails to the floor and wants to talk to Mean Gene on the floor. Mean Gene comes over and talks to Regal. Regal is now saying that Eaton would be a great tag team partner. Regal thinks they could do wonderful things together. They shake hands and walk off.

7.Vader won his squash match with a power bomb. After the match, Dave Sullivan comes down to ringside and is punched by Flair. Flair rolls Sullivan into the ring and Vader connects with a power bomb! Vader jumps off the middle rope to splash Sullivan. Vader decides to come off the top rope to big splash Sullivan another time! Ric Flair hammers away on Sullivan until Bobby Heenan enters the ring and pulls him off. Nick Bockwinkel is in the ring as well to prevent anything else from happening to Dave.

8.Alex Wright won his squash match following a middle rope twisting cross body.

9.A video promoting the Blacktop Bully/Dustin Rhodes feud is aired.

10.Blacktop Bully had a squash match this week, which he won with the Breaker 1-9.

11.Considering Avalanche is the size of two men, I don’t think he is at a disadvantage in this handicap match. He proves that to be true as he takes are of business. Avalanche hits a double sit down splash on both men to win the match. After the match, Mean Gene interviews Avalanche and Big Bubba. Bubba knows that they are going to beat Savage and Sting in singles matches tomorrow night at Uncensored. Avalanche brags about laying Savage out a couple of weeks ago.

12.Meng won his squash match with a savant kick in record time yet again.

13.A video promoting the Hogan/Vader match tomorrow night is aired.

14.Yeah, I thought Paul Roma was fired after Superbrawl V as well, at least that’s what I always read. But, he is here in the main event. Orndorff works on Rhodes with a knee lift and several shots to the midsection. Rhodes fights back to hit a running bulldog, which would be a finisher but they treat it as just another move, really. Badd enters and dropkicks Roma a few times to keep control of the contest. Badd is worked on by both Orndorff and Roma, with the main focus being Badd’s left arm. Badd connects with a snap suplex on Roma and tags in Rhodes who works on Orndorff with right hands and a clothesline. Orndorff avoids a dropkick and drives Rhodes head first into the canvas. Roma delivers a few back breakers for a near fall on Rhodes. Rhodes counters a pile driver attempt with a backdrop on Orndorff and they both go down following a double clothesline. Badd gets the tag and hammers away on Roma. All four men enter the ring and begin to brawl in the ring. Badd leaps off the top and pins Roma with a sunset flip while Roma was trying to deliver a pile driver. I thought it was a decent match, nothing special.

15.Nick Bockwinkel tells Ric Flair that he retired and not in the picture anymore. Flair threatens to unleash Vader on Bockwinkel. Instead, Flair says he doesn’t want to comeback to WCW. Flair says tomorrow night no authorities will be at Uncensored and he will go nuts with Vader.

Final Thoughts:
This was really just a last second promotion for the Uncensored pay per view. So, it wasn’t too bad. There wasn’t anything new going on, just a recap of what happened in past weeks.

WCW Saturday Night 3/25/1995

World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
Date:
3/25/1995
From: Atlanta, GA

Matches:
1.)Sgt. Craig Pittman defeated Mike Davis
2.)Stars & Stripes defeated Sonny Trout & Rick Thames
3.)Big Bubba defeated Mark Starr
4.)Brian Pillman defeated the Terrorist
5.)Meng defeated Mike Khoury
6.)Steve Austin defeated Kenny Kendall
7.)Sting defeated Lt. James Earl Wright
8.)Kevin Sullivan & the Butcher defeated Dave Abee & Leroy Howard
9.)WCW Television Champion Arn Anderson defeated John Crystal
10.)Randy Savage defeated Avalanche

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.Nick Bockwinkel opens the show talking to the announcers. Bockwinkel had a meeting with Hogan and Savage which will be aired later on in the show. He is going to strip the WCW United States Championship from Vader for not listening to him. It makes sense, who realistically could beat Vader on the under-card?

2.Sgt. Craig Pittman won his squash match by submission with a cross arm breaker.

3.Stars & Stripes competed in tag action and won their squash match over the team named Southern Posse after they hit a vertical suplex/cross body combo move.

4.Big Bubba withstood an early offense flurry from Starr to win the squash match following a side slam. After the match, Mean Gene interviews Big Bubba. Bubba says there isn’t anyone can do when they meet in the ring, he is going to beat them.

5.Brian Pillman continued his winning streak when he beat the Terrorist following a top rope cross body. During the match, Pillman actually leaped off a balcony and dove onto the Terrorist on the floor. After the match, Mean Gene interviews Pillman. Pillman says that life is too short to focus on the negative. He promises to crack up the intensity every time he competes.

6.We go to footage of Nick Bockwinkel meeting with Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. They had a startling request, which Bockwinkel wants everyone to see for themselves. They think that Ric Flair is completely out of line and they want Flair reinstated. Bockwinkel promises them there will be a vote to see if Flair is reinstated into the company.

7.Meng was in action, which means he won in less than a minute after delivering a savant kick. After the match, Col. Robert Parker is interviewed by Mean Gene. Parker doesn’t believe there is anyone who can beat Meng. Parker considers Meng to be the most dangerous man in WCW. Parker predicts that Meng is the next WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

8.Footage of Lord Steven Regal trying to change Bobby Eaton into what he wants it shown. They are in England as Regal takes Eaton to dinner in hopes to changing his attitude. Eaton looks like a homeless guy compared to Regal in this. Regal says “this is far worse than I ever imagined.”

9.Hey, look, it’s Steve Austin! It’s been three months and this is Austin’s first appearance on Saturday Night in 1995. That’s just awful. Austin won the squash match following a top rope senton splash, which he kind of missed. After the match, Tony Schiavone interviews Steve Austin. Austin says he has always looked awesome, it’s nothing new. He knows a lot of people didn’t expect him to be back. He was gone for fourth months and he is still the number one talent in WCW today. It looks like he is focused on getting the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

10.Sting competed in a squash match against one half of the State Patrol, Lt. James Earl Wright. Sting forced Wright to tap out to the Scorpion death lock. After the match, Tony interviews Sting. Sting tells Big Bubba that his cloud is turning gray and black. He is the thunder and tells Bubba to not come out on TV and act cocky about having Sting’s number. He pretty much says that if he gets knocked up he will pop right back up and get in his face.

11.Footage from WCW Pro is shown, which saw Jim Duggan and Stars & Stripes beat the Faces of Fear because Butcher screwed up and accidentally hit Sullivan. There might be some tension within the group.

12.Butcher and Sullivan competed in tag action this week. They won their squash match when Butcher locked in a sleeper hold on Abee. After the match, Mean Gene interviews Butcher and Sullivan. Gene wants to know if there is tension between them. Butcher assures Gene that everything is fine with them. Sullivan agrees saying they are back on track. Butcher thanks Sullivan for waking him up from the Hulkamania stuff and he wants Gene to wake up as well.

13.WCW Television Champion Arn Anderson refuses to lose on TV because he won yet again this week after delivering a DDT to John Crystal. After the match, Anderson is interviewed by Tony Schiavone. Parker says that Anderson gives him confidence every time he wrestles. Parker declares Anderson to be the greatest WCW TV Champion ever. Anderson chimes in to say that he is just warming up. If he ever has a day off he stretches his neighbors just for fun. He rips on Hogan for defending the title maybe three times a month while he has that many defenses in a weekend. Anderson wants Hogan to face him one time.

14.Savage runs into the ring and trades blows with Avalanche. Savage knee lifts Avalanche into a corner and tries a roll up but only gets a one count. Avalanche works on Savage with a clothesline and a belly to belly suplex. What in the world, Avalanche just drop kicked Savage to the floor. Avalanche sends Savage shoulder first into the ring post. Savage avoids a splash back in the ring and leaps off the top to hit a double ax handle for a two count. Avalanche stops Savage with a big clothesline. Avalanche maintains control with a leg drop and steps on Savage’s chest. Avalanche has been working on Savage for several minutes with Savage only getting in a few right hands to the midsection. Savage knocks the big man off his feet with a running clothesline. Savage avoids a splash in the corner and an elbow drop. Avalanche stops Savage with a big power slam. Avalanche leaps off the middle rope but misses a big splash. Savage goes up top but Butcher and Sullivan come out. Savage kicks Butcher away and hits a top rope elbow drop to win the match. After the match, Sting comes out to celebrate and protect Savage. Tony Schiavone interviews Savage and Sting. Savage says that Sting is cool and Sting just says “Oh yeah, dig it.” He also tells Savage he has his back no matter what. Savage wants Flair to be reinstated so he, Sting and Hogan can drive Flair out the company themselves. That’s a wrap.

Final Thoughts:
An average episode this week. The feature match wasn’t bad but there just wasn’t anything all that exciting. It’s good to see Steve Austin back on television and the segment with Regal and Eaton shows some promising things from a comical side. The thought of Flair being reinstated is goofy to me. They wanted Flair out and now that he is back screwing with the babyfaces, they want him back in the ring. I don’t really get the whole mindset behind that booking decision. I would have think of a better way to bring Flair back than that way.

Thanks for reading.
