Elimination Match: Watsumi the Rising Sun, Chad Austin, & Joe College vs. The American Ninja, Johnny Paradise, ASWA Light Heavyweight Champion Shane Shamrock & The Comet
This match is for Shamrock’s title. Watsumi starts off with The Ninja and hits a quick arm drag and hip toss combo. Ninja gets slammed to the mat as the fans boo. Ninja comes back with the same combination of moves himself. Ninja with a monkey flip in the corner. Watsumi comes back and hits a bodyslam and puts his feet on the ropes and gets the elimination on what looked like a fast count at 2.42. Shamrock comes into the ring with a top rope spin kick followed by a back body drop. Watsumi fights back though and hits a super kick. The ref is arguing with the Paradise and Comet so I do think he is a heel ref and that was a fast count on purpose. Watsumi holds Shamrock and Austin tries to hit him with a chair but Shamrock ducks. Watsumi goes down but Austin goes after Shamrock again and hits him with a nasty shot to the head. The ref turns around and counts both men out at 4.39. So we will have a new champion. Comet and College come in next. Comet goes to work right on the arm. College comes back with a suplex and tags in Austin. Austin with a spin kick and suplex. Austin hits the ropes four times before dropping a leg and getting a 2 count. Comet comes back with a back drop but misses an elbow. Austin goes up top and connects with a standing moonsault for the elimination at 7.37. Johnny Paradise left all alone against two opponents now. He comes in and Austin goes to work hitting a back drop and tagging out to College. College irish whips Paradise and Austin trips him. College drops a few elbows and a knee and gets the pin in 8.53 to get the win for his team. College thinks he has won the title but the ref tells him he has to still fight Austin. College turns and Austin comes off the top with a flying somersault body press and hits a tilt awhirl slam. Austin goes up top but College moves on the leg drop attempt. College with a butterfly suplex and slam. College goes up top for a crossbody but Austin rolls through hooks the tights and puts his feet on the ropes to get the pin and become the new ASWA Light Heavyweight Champion in 10.03.
Pat Patterson Jr. vs. Colossal Kong (w/??)
Kong has a manager but I can’t catch his name. He acts very much like Jim Cornette to where I thought it was him at first until I realized he had a small cane and not a tennis racket. I’m sure you can catch the joke here with the Patterson Jr. gimmick. Kong is huge and Patterson uses speed to take the big man down with a bunch of clotheslines. Kong uses his power to come back and slams and splashes Patterson to get the win in 1.17. Kong throws the ref down and hits two more splashes after the match. The ref reverses the decision and DQs Kong. The fans went nuts for this whole thing and either really loved Kong or just really hated Patterson.
ECW Heavyweight Champion Sabu (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) vs. Tazmaniac
Sabu takes down Taz by tripping the leg and then hits a clothesline and frankensteiner. Taz ducks a clothesline and hits a german. Sabu comes back with a spin kick and leg drop for 2. Sabu with a side headlock but Taz counters with a belly to back suplex. Sabu comes back and hits a top rope leg drop for 2. He throws Taz into the corner and follows with a splash. He goes for it a second time but Taz catches him and walks him to the center of the ring and hits a belly to belly. Taz goes up top but misses a somersault senton. Sabu slams Taz and lands a split legged moonsault to get the pin and retain the title at 5.14. After the match Sabu wants to dive through a table but Paul E. wont let him.
ASWA Heavyweight Champion Hack Meyers vs. Trent Young
Hack attacks Young before the match and beats him down in the corner. Hack man handling Young but Young is able to reverse an irish whip and hits some hip tosses and arm drags. A drop kick sends Hack to the floor to regroup. Back in and Young goes back to the arm drag and hangs onto an arm bar. Young with a belly to belly on the bigger Meyers for 2. Hack gets up quickly and cuts of Young with a blow to the throat. Big clothesline and forearm drop for 2. Slam by Hack and he goes to the second rope but comes off and gets caught in a powerslam. Hack sends Young into the corner hits an elbow to the back of the head followed by the apron leg drop. Hack picks up Young and heads up top finishes the match off by dropping a double knee to the chest Young and driving him down to the mat with it. Meyers retains his title in 4.38.
Elimination Match: MEWF Mid Atlantic Champion “Hollywood” Bob Starr Tommy Lee Mason (w/ ?), Duane Gill, Max Thrasher vs. Mike Khoury, Joe Thunder, Tommy Dreamer & Maxx Moon
Just like in the 7-man elimination match the title is on the line. Mason’s manager is the Jim Cornette guy from earlier in the night. Thunder starts of with Thrasher. Back drop by Thunder corner whip and cartwheel back elbow gets two. Drop kick but Thrasher comes back and hits a belly to back suplex for 2. Snap suplex gets 2. Spin buster at 1.29 eliminates Thunder. Max Moon comes in and quickly rolls up Thrasher to get rid of him in 1.41. Gill comes in the ring and misses a corner splash and gets hung up on the top rope. Moon shakes the ropes and flings him off. Inverted atomic drop by Moon. Gill manages to throw Moon out of the ring and rams his face into the ring mat. They both get counted out at 3.50. Dreamer with an elbow drop for 2. Dreamer charges in the corner but misses and hits his shoulder on the post. Leg drop by Starr for 2. Snap suplex gets 2 as the crowd gets behind Dreamer. Starr ducks his head on a whip and Dreamer gets a suplex. Enziguri and Dreamer locks on a sleeper hold. Starr gets to the ropes and pulls something out of his tights and hits Dreamer with it to eliminate him at 7.32. Khoury and Starr go at it to see who will be the new MEWF Mid Atlantic Champion. Slam and elbow drop by Starr for 2. Starr goes for a suplex but it’s reversed. Side slam by Starr for 2. Starr goes for a pile driver but it’s blocked. Khoury hits a clothesline but cant capitalize. Starr stays on the offense but Khoury comes out of no where with a small package for the win and the title in 11.25
Junkyard Dog (w/ Sherri) vs. Kevin Sullivan (w/ Woman)
Sullivan attacks before the match and he’s using a hammer. Dog goes down but then fires up as Sullivan rams his head into the turnbuckle. Dog now takes Sullivan to the buckle and Sullivan goes down. Sullivan bails to the floor to slow things down. Back in the ring Dog wins a test of strength and then stomps Sullivan’s hands. Sullivan uses the weapon again to gain back control. Dog eventually moves out of the way on a corner charge by Sullivan and wins with a school boy in 4.21
– Matty comes out and interviews Road Warrior Hawk. Hawk says stuff and then brings out Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. They take pictures with some fans in the ring.
Texas Death Match: ASWA Tag Team Champions Bad Breed (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) vs. Southern Destruction vs. MEWF Tag Team Champions Tony Stetson & Johnny Hotbody vs. Rich Myers & Jimmy Jannetty
Title unification match here. The ref has trouble getting only two guys in the ring. Myers starts off with one of the Destruction guys and hits a drop kick. Destruction comes back with a clothesline but gets a hip toss reversed. Jannetty gets tagged in and they hit a double clothesline. Drop kick by Jannetty and he tags back to Myers and they get a double hip toss. Slam and clothesline by Myers and he tags back to Jannetty. He ducks his head on a whip and gets kicked and both guys tag in their partners. Myers with a drop kick and clothesline. Destruction again able to make a tag. The other two teams just kind of standing around on the apron as we are about five minutes into the match. The camera goes back to the ring and there is a pin fall happening and Myers can’t get up before the ten count and they are eliminated at 5.10. Ian Rotten comes into the ring and hits 2 double arm DDTs and a top rope banzai drop. He tags in Axl he gives a big boot, elbow drop, clothesline and another elbow. Really you don’t go for a pin after two double arm DDTs? Axl tags in Ian and he hits a splash and makes a cover and gets a 3 count. Destruction able to get up before the ten count though and tag his partner. Ian nails him with a piledriver and then a tombstone. Again he tags Axl instead of going for the pin. Axl comes off the second rope with an elbow drop and gets the pin. Destruction gets up before the ten count and Axl gets a chair and lays him and the ref out. Another ref comes out and starts a ten count even though the guy wasn’t pinned again but he gets up anyway. Ian back in and he gets locked in a sleeper. Paul E gets up on the apron and hits Destruction with his phone. Ian covers and pins. He’s up before the ten count again. Second rope leg drop gets another 3 count. That proves to be the final nail in the coffin and Southern Destruction is eliminated at 11.14. Hotbody and Stetson hit the ring and tag out the champs. Hotboy hits Ian with a snap suplex and goes into a spinning toe hold. Stetson tags in and keeps working on the leg. Ian fights back but misses the top rope banzai drop gets low blowed twice and gets pinned. Ian back up but Stetson goes low right away and pins again. Ian is up but he gets double teamed as Hotbody gets tagged back in. Axl finally ends up getting tagged back in and Bad Breed hit a doomsday device to get the pin. Hotbody can’t answer the ten count and the match is over in 18.01. Bad Breed are the new ASWA/MEWF Unified Tag Team Champions.
Johnny Gunn vs. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (w/ Madusa)
Valentine goes after the leg to start. Gunn with an arm drag and atomic drop. Valentine backs off and when they lock back up Gunn goes to an arm bar. Valentine pushes him off and hits a knee to the stomach but misses an elbow drop and gun goes back to the arm bar. The Hammer fights his way out of the hold and goes to work on Gunn. Gunn reverses a corner whip but misses a charge and gets his legs tied up in the ropes. Valentine stomps the knee as the ref tries to get Gunn free. Valentine goes for an irish whip but Gunn falls to the mat in pain. Valentine works over the leg for the next few minutes. Gunn mounts a comeback and gets a 2 count after a Russian leg sweep. Sleeper by Gunn and Valentine drives him back into a corner taking out the ref. Madusa comes into the ring and jumps on Gunns back. Valentine attacks Gunn from behind and holds him. Madusa goes for a kick but misses and nails Valentine and Gunn gets the pin in 13.19.
Public Enemy vs. Badd Company
Paul Diamond and Johnny Grunge start it off. We are five minutes into the match and nothing besides some hip tosses have happened. Diamond hits a bulldog and then tags Pat Tanaka and Grunge tags Rocco Roc. Rocco beats on Tanaka but misses a corner charge. Diamond tags back in and hits a drop kick. Diamond hits the ropes and Grunge grabs his leg distracting him as Rocco attacks from behind. Diamond goes to the floor and Grunge beats on him there. PE make a few tags back and forth with no one doing anything worth mentioning. Diamond finally tags out and Tanaka comes in and cleans house. Tanaka hits a sit out power bomb on Rocco but Grunge breaks it up. Tanaka goes for a slam but Grunge pulls his feet out from under him and holds onto the foot allowing Roc to get the pin in 14.22.
Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Mr. Hughes
Some guy comes to the ring and interrupts the ring announcer to whisper something to him. I imagine it was a long the lines of “Jake’s really drunk, you have to stall”. Hughes comes out to “I’ve Got the Power” the 1990s dance song by Snap and a huge pop. It’s all very confusing. Now the fans chant DDT and boo Hughes. More confusion for me. The bell rings and Hughes leaves the ring and threatens to leave if they don’t stop chanting. One of my favorite tactics. A test of strength is of course quickly won by Hughes. We are six minutes into the match when Jake finally breaks free and goes right for a DDT but Hughes breaks away and goes to the floor. Jake grabs the bag with the snake and Hughes freaks out. Jake can’t pick Hughes up for a slam. Jake now gets slammed but Hughes misses and elbow drop. Jake again just misses the DDT. Boring chants have been sprinkling into the match. Hughes backs Jake into a corner and goes to work. A few hard corner whip and one can only imagine that Hughes is working over the lower back to soften Jake up for the boss man slam. Backbreaker for 2 as I call to the gods for this match to end. Hughes stays on Jake as we cross the 12 minute mark. Jake fights back short arm clothesline he goes for the DDT but Hughes back drops him. DAMMIT! Corner charge from Hughes misses, DDT!!! Stop selling your back and fucking cover him Jake!!!!!! Jake finally crawls over and makes the cover at 13.40. It’s all finally over!!
My thoughts on the show…
Do everything in your power to not see this show. I know there’s a lot of name value for an Indy show, it looks stacked, but it’s just terrible. It’s almost 3 hours and took me like 2 weeks to get through this. I guess I could say the first two elimination matches were decent but the rest was just awful. Thumbs way down.
