The Event Center: WWE SummerSlam 2005

Introduction:
Hello everyone and welcome back to the Event Center, right here on CrazyMax. Last time we saw each other we were checking out Clash of the Champions from August of 1993. We got a solid main event between Vader and Davey Boy Smith but I have a feeling it is going to pale to comparison of our main event on this episode. We are right in the middle of our Summer Review Series so we of course need to get in some more SummerSlams. We are heading back to a time that doesn’t get a lot of love on this site because well it’s just not very entertaining as a whole. Doing the one off show here and there isn’t terrible but it’s almost impossible to go back and re-watch a complete year of this shit. Anyways, we are heading back to the summer of 2005 and we are going to be doing SummerSlam 2005. Thats right, Hogan vs. Michaels in the race to see who’s backstage stroke will get the upper hand last. I haven’t seen this show since the PPV so I am unsure of how good or bad this show was so let’s get this thing going.

Event Information:
Date: August 21st, 2005
Location: MCI Center in Washington, DC
Attendance: 18,176
Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels

Show Opening:

The show opens up right away in the arena where the Navy color guard is presenting our colors so Lilian Garcia can sing us the National Anthem. She was looking hot as hell on this show and she really belted one out here. We get the opening video showcasing the matches that are going to be taking place right here on SummerSlam.

Match 1: WWE United States Title Match: Orlando Jordan (c) vs. Chris Benoit

The bell rings and we get a tie up here in our opener. Benoit drives Jordan into the corner but Jordan decks Benoit with a right hand. Benoit then hits Jordan with one German suplex and then puts him in the crippler cross face immediately and Jordan taps out. Your winner and new WWE United States Champion….Chris Benoit!

Recap:
Welp, it came, it went, and that was all she wrote. Can’t really get into anything Benoit so I am glad this only lasted about 25 seconds. This wasn’t really a match and was just a squash so lets just move on and not even focus on this one.

Backstage Segment: Eddie Guerrero & Vicki Guerrero

Vickie says they need to talk and Eddie says that we are done talking. Vickie says that Eddie may be done talking but she isn’t. Vickie says this isn’t about Dominic but its more about Eddie wanting to get a win over Rey and being better than him. Eddie says that is true to. Eddie says the main thing is his love for Dominic. Vickie says that Eddie can care less about Dominic or if he came home with them. Vickie says this is about hurting Rey and trying to be the better man. Eddie says he needs someone to carry on the Guerrero legacy and that if Vickie is accusing him of hurting Rey or his family then she is gone.

Eddie says that Vickie is crazier than he is and he doesn’t need that from her. Vickie says that she loves Eddie more than anything. She says the man she married years ago has a heart of gold, and Eddie starts grinning. Vickie says this person will not allow him to hurt Rey or his family. Eddie takes this as Vickie saying he can’t beat Rey. Eddie says that he will show everyone in the locker room, the fans, and especially to Vickie that he can beat Rey. Eddie says if she can’t support that then she can get out. Eddie then kicks her out of the locker room.

They show a highlight video of the feud between Matt Hardy and Edge.

Match 2: Edge vs. Matt Hardy

Edge and Lita are standing in the ring waiting for Matt and Coach makes a comment of “I don’t think Lita wants to be between these two tonight.” JR then drops this dime “Lita not wanting to be in the middle of two men huh?” Matt runs to the ring and they end up brawling on the outside to get this one started. They get back in the ring and this one officially starts. Matt is on top of Edge and just laying in the right hands. Matt jumps on the back of Edge and he tries to choke him out.

Matt just laying in the rights and lefts to Edge in the corner until Edge breaks it up with a head butt to Matt. Edge starts laying in the rights of his own. Edge then drops Matt Hardy with a spear through the ropes to the outside. Such a dangerous spot that was. Edge could of have really injured his neck on that one but thankfully he didn’t.

Edge gets back in the ring and Matt ends up nailing him with big ass lefts and rights. Matt gets to the top rope and is driving in the right hands but Edge picks up Matt and drops him face first on the steel post. Matt then falls to the outside and appears to be knocked out here. Edge goes out after him and throws him back into the ring as he lays in the right hands. Matt is busted wide open right in the forehead. Edge starts laying in the rights and knees to the head of Matt but Matt keeps calling for some more. Edge then kicks Matt in the head 3-4 times and Matt just falls down in the ring. Edge lays in one more boot and this causes the ref to stop the match. Your winner by knockout….Edge!

Recap:
This match was nothing but vicious right hand and forearms. The only real wrestling move was the spear off the apron to the outside. Other than that it was nothing but rights, lefts, boots, and forearms from both guys. I didn’t expect anything less considering the feud these two were trying to have. It made perfect sense so I am not mad at the outcome or how this match went. I can’t go without saying how hot Lita was during this time frame. You will be hard pressed to find someone hotter in wrestling than Lita when she was with Edge. All in all, a pretty good match here for the feud that these two were having.

They show a highlight video of the feud between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio Jr.

Match 3: Ladder Match for Dominic: Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero

They jaw with each other until Eddie drops Rey with a knee to the gut and this one is off and going. Eddie drops Rey with a nice belly to back suplex. Rey does a nice leap frog and then a big time monkey flip that sends Eddie to the outside of the ring. Rey goes out after him but Eddie ends up throwing Rey into the steel steps and into the ladder that is set up on the entrance ramp. Eddie starts dragging the ladder back to the ring and starts to climb it but Rey hits a springboard drop kick and knocks Eddie off of the ladder.

Eddie goes outside and gets another ladder and drives it into the face of Rey to keep control of the match. Rey throws Eddie to the outside and ends up hitting him with a drop kick into the ladder right into the face fo Eddie. Rey then jumps and hits a senton on Eddie to the outside. That looked bad there. Rey gets inside and climbs the ladder and so does Eddie. They are on top of the ladder going punch for punch until Eddie goes for a sunset flip power bomb but Eddie slipped and Rey ends up falling back and both men are laid out.

Eddie picks up the ladder and runs it into Rey in the corner and just squashes him. Eddie then drop kicks the ladder into Rey again. Eddie body slams Rey on a ladder and then he puts another ladder on top of him. Eddie then hit his hilo move on top of the ladder and both men are laid out. There isn’t a lot of high flying going on with the ladders but the match itself has been pretty damn awesome. Eddie nearly gets the briefcase but Rey ends up climbing up to the top of the ladder. Rey laid the ladder on one of the rungs of another ladder to set up a ramp. Rey then gets to Eddie and ends up hitting him with a back drop on to the ladder and the whole damn contraption collapses. That didn’t look good at all.

Rey gets up to his feet first as he sets up the ladder and goes up for the briefcase. Eddie gets up to his feet and drop kicks the ladder down and sends Rey crashing to the mat. Eddie picks up a ladder and lays it on the top rope. Rey comes charging at Eddie and Eddie grabs him and ends up flipping him around sends him rib first into the ladder. That looked painful as hell but it was pretty damn sweet.

Eddie sets up the ladder and is near the top but Dominic comes in to the ring and tries to stop him from climbing up the ladder but he can’t move the ladder. Eddie climbs back down and starts yelling at Dominic. Eddie tells him to give him a hug but Dominic says no. Eddie says that Dominic better love him because he is going to be his new daddy. Eddie is about to slap Dominic but Rey stops him and and ends up hitting Eddie with a back drop.

Rey ends up hitting Eddie with a drop toe hold into the ladder and then he hits him with a 619 into the ladder but it sends the ladder back and lands on top of Eddie. Rey then hits a slingshot leg drop on top of the ladder on top of Eddie. Rey sets up the ladder and nearly gets the briefcase but Eddie climbs up the ladder behind Rey and puts Rey on his shoulders. Rey ends up spinning around and drops Eddie with a power bomb off of the ladder. Rey gets to the top and grabs the briefcase but Eddie kicks the ladder out from under him and Rey is just hanging there. Rey ends up letting go and Eddie drops him with a power bomb right in the middle of the ring. That was freakin awesome.

Eddie then pins the ladder on top of Rey as he climbs up the ladder to get the briefcase. Eddie has the briefcase but he can’t get it unhooked and Rey ends up moving the ladder all around until he knocks it down. Eddie is now hanging on to the briefcase and Rey ends up pulling the leg of Eddie and pulls him off and Eddie comes down on his ankle and it didn’t look good. Eddie ends up getting up and hits the three amigos on Rey and on the third suplex, he suplexes him on to the ladder. This match is just brutal.

Eddie ends up going for the briefcase again. This time Vickie Guerrero comes out and starts yelling at Eddie. Eddie has the briefcase but Vickie pushes it over and knocks Eddie off the ladder as he clotheslines himself on to the top rope. Rey sets up the ladder and climbs up the ladder and gets the briefcase as Vickie pulls Eddie and sits on him so he can’t get up the ladder. Rey Mysterio is the winner of the ladder match!

After the match Eddie is throwing ladders around in the ring until Rey gets in the ring and just nails him with the briefcase.

Recap:
I’m not a fan of this angle at all but man this match delivered. Both guys did some crazy ass bumps and left everything out in the ring. The power bomb after falling off the briefcase was insane. Also the back drop on Eddie that sent both ladders crashing was insane as well. The ending was pretty good with Vickie coming out and doing the right thing but again this storyline was the shits and should have never been done. Take that part out of it and we got a nice 4-4.25 star match here.

Backstage Interview: Chris Jericho

Todd says Jericho is in for the match of his career and wants to know what Jericho’s mindset is going in to the match with Cena for the WWE Title. Jericho says Cena doesn’t compare to either one of those guys because they are legendary figures and are hall of famers just like Chris Jericho.

Match 4: Kurt Angle vs. Eugene

Angle gets in the ring, as Eugene extends a handshake, and just slaps the shit out of him. Angle starts beating the brakes off Eugene with European uppercuts as well as punches and stomps. Angle drops Eugene with a short arm clothesline as he continues to dominate this match up. Eugene ends up hitting Angle with a nice spine buster. Eugene tries to do the peoples elbow but Angle gets up and just floors Eugene with a big time clothesline.

Angle picks up Eugene and gets him in 2 straight German suplexes and on the second one he releases it and drops Eugene right on his neck. Eugene goes for a splash in the corner but Angle moves out of the way and Angle nails him with another big time German suplex that threw him across the ring. Angle rams Eugene’s head into the corner but Eugene starts hulking up and he lays in lefts and rights to Angle. Eugene then drops Angle with a rock bottom for a 2 count. Eugene goes for a stunner but Angle blocks it and Angle goes for an olympic slam but Eugene reverses that and ends up hitting Angle with the Stunner for a 2 count.

Eugene then gets Angle in the ankle lock but Angle reverses it and sends Eugene head first into the turnbuckle. Angle then picks up Eugene and nails him with the Olympic Slam. Angle then gets Eugene in the ankle lock and Eugene taps out. Your winner by submission….Kurt Angle!

After the match Angle goes outside and gets the chair but Christy comes in and lays on Eugene to save him. Angle then picks up Eugene and just throws him to the outside. Angle then makes them play his music as he stands on a chair and he has the ref put the gold medal around the neck of Angle as he stands in the ring and celebrates.

Recap:
This was a glorified squash. I forgot how hated Eugene was by the fans because every time he got some offense in the crowd would boo the shit out of him. Angle’s aggression was awesome and really enhanced this match if you ask me. He was taking no prisoners and he just destroyed Eugene and it was awesome. The post match stuff was great as well with him having the ref put the medal around his neck again. All around good stuff and a nice little match here to break up some of these longer matches.

They go outside where some of the divas are cleaning a limousine. They end up cleaning each other and looking pretty hot doing it. They show a president of the United States logo on the side of the door. Vince then rolls down the window and says “Hey why not?”

Match 5: The Undertaker vs. Randy Orton

Taker is trying to catch up to Orton but Orton uses his speed to get away as he ends up getting Taker in a head lock. Orton ends up hitting Taker with a nice hip toss and clothesline but ends up getting floored by a big ass boot by Undertaker. Taker then starts working the arm of Orton and he ends up going up for Old School on Orton but Orton grabs him and arm drags Taker off the top rope. Orton with some pretty damn good offense early on. Taker ends up picking up Orton and throws him into the corner and he just starts laying in the rights and lefts on Orton. Orton ends up hitting Taker with a boot when he comes charging into the corner. Orton then runs out of the corner to do a move on Taker but Taker floors him with a giant big boot. That looked like it hurt a little bit.

Taker ends up hitting his flying clothesline on Orton and nearly gets the 3 but Orton gets the shoulder up at 2 1/2. Taker continues to work over Orton in the corner and he ends up charging at Orton with a big knee to the gut. Taker goes for a big knee in the corner but Orton gets out of the way and Taker gets caught on the top rope. Orton then goes over and nails Taker with a big time kick. Taker is getting back into the ring and Orton drops him with his DDT off the middle rope.

Orton then starts working over the leg but dropping his weight on it and then draping it across the apron. Orton then wraps the knee of Taker on to the steel post. Orton gets a leg lock on Taker in the middle of the ring but Taker just starts laying in the right hands to Orton but Orton drops him with a back elbow. Orton continues to work over the knee of Taker by wrapping it around the middle rope. Orton nails Taker with a big time power slam for a 2 count. Orton goes right back to the leg with a spinning toe hold.

Taker ends up reversing the leg lock and ends up dropping the knee of Orton to the mat. Orton ends up getting control again by chop blocking Taker and back to the leg lock we go. Orton goes for a butt drop on the knee but Taker uses his other leg and sends Orton flying over the top rope. Taker goes out after him and throws him head first into the steel steps. Taker then drops the big leg across the throat of Orton who is laid out on the apron. Taker ends up going for Old School again and this time he nails Orton with it but his knee is still giving him some trouble. Taker drops Orton with an STO for a 2 count.

Taker drops Orton with some Snake Eyes and he goes for his big boot but Orton gets up and drops him with a beautiful looking drop kick. Orton goes for the RKO but Taker just throws him off of him. Taker then picks up Orton for the Tombstone but Orton reverses it and then Undertaker reverses it again but Orton drops down and hits Taker with a neck breaker across his back and gets a 2 1/2 count. Orton ends up climbing to the top rope and hits Taker with a flying cross body but Taker rolls through and grabs Orton by the throat and picks him up for a choke slam. That was freakin awesome.

Taker is calling for the Tombstone but a “fan” comes running into the ring and tries to shake the hand of Undertaker. It’s some older guy wearing a white suit with a red hat. Security comes out and gets the guy out of the ring. Taker goes to pick up Orton but Orton drops him with an RKO out of no where and he gets the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall….Randy Orton!

After the match Orton goes out and gets with the fan as he takes off his disguise and reveals himself to be Bob Orton. They then do a double Orton pose on the ramp as Taker comes after them and chases them down.

Recap:
This match kind of sucked until the last 4-5 minutes. Orton worked the leg for most of the match and got his rest hold city in. There was some good spots here and there but nothing special until the end. The reversals and the RKO out of no where was pretty damn sweet. The spot with Bob and Randy on the ramp was pretty sweet as well. Other than the last 4-5 minutes there really is nothing work while during this match. I was surprised by the clean finish and no kick out after 1 RKO. It really got Orton and the move over.

They show a highlight video of the feud between John Cena and Chris Jericho.

Match 6: WWE Title Match: John Cena (c) vs. Chris Jericho

This one starts off with a face to face show down as they talk shit to each other. They start exchanging chops and right hands until Jericho gets the advantage as he hits Cena with a clothesline out of an irish whip. Jericho then drops Cena with a suplex. Jericho hits Cena with a nice spinning wheel kick that sends Cena outside to the apron. Jericho goes for his spring board drop kick off the apron but Cena ducks and Jericho goes flying to the outside. Cena then spears Jericho and lays in some right hands on the outside.

Cena throws Jericho into the corner and he comes charging in and Jericho ends up dropping him with a nice looking drop kick. Jericho hits Cena with a nice standing vertical suplex for a 2 count. Jericho hits a basement drop kick and then starts working the neck of Cena. Jericho ends up reversing an irish whip and sends Cena flying through the middle rope. Jericho hits a nice drop kick off the apron on Cena. Jericho then chokes out Cena with a tv cable before he throws him back into the ring.

Jericho gets Cena on the top rope and he starts talking shit and hits Cena with two head butts. Jericho then drops Cena with a superplex off the top rope. Cena gets his boots up in the corner and ends up dropping Jericho with a back drop and then some clotheslines to gain some momentum in the match. Cena goes for a flying shoulder block but Jericho ducks under and Cena goes crashing to the mat. Jericho gets the bulldog on Cena and then the lionsault but Cena rolls out of the way and Jericho lands on his feet.

Cena goes for the F-U but Jericho rolls through and goes for the Walls of Jericho but Cena ends up kicking Jericho to the outside. Cena goes to the top rope and hits a leg drop on the back of Jericho’s head while he was laying on the middle rope. Cena goes for the F-U again but Jericho reverses it into a DDT for a 2 count. Jericho continues to work the lower back of Cena, getting him ready for the Walls of Jericho. The crowd goes crazy as they go between “lets go Cena” to “lets go Jericho” chants.

Jericho is going for a running splash on the back of Cena but Cena gets up and drops Jericho with a nice looking clothesline. They both get up and Cena starts laying in the lefts and rights. Cena then hits a lay down hip toss and then his shitty side suplex. This leads Cena to the 5 knuckle shuffle but Jericho rolls around and gets Cena in the Walls of Jericho in the middle of the ring. Jericho nearly gets to the ropes but Jericho ends up dragging him back to the middle of the ring. Cena finally gets to the ropes to break the hold.

Jericho goes to the outside but Cena ends up catching him and damn near hits him with an F-U off the top rope but Jericho slides down and hits Cena with a belly to back suplex for a 2 count. Jericho gets caught in a tilt a whirl and Cena turns it into the F-U for the 1-2-3. Your winner and still WWE Champion….John Cena!

Recap:
This match was pretty solid and the crowd was hot as hell for it. The back and forth chant between Cena chants and Jericho chants was pretty awesome. The finish with the tilt a whirl into the F-U was pretty damn sweet as well. Again I am surprised it only took one F-U to win this match compared to how many he has to hit these days to get a win. All in all not a bad match but this was before Cena got really good at delivering in his main events. Not a bad match though and definitely one worth checking out.

They show a highlight video of the feud between Batista and John Bradshaw Layfield.

Match 7: WWE World Heavyweight Title Match No Holds Barred: Batista (c) vs. JBL

Batista is in the middle of his entrance when JBL tries to attack him. Batista rams JBL head first into an equipment box. Batista picks up a fire extinguisher and ends up hitting JBL in the back with it. Batista is just laying in the right hands to JBL right next to the entrance ramp. JBL reveres a whip and sends Batista into an equipment box again. JBL picks up a chair but Batista ends up hitting him with a spear right through the barricade.

JBL gets to his feet and pushes Batista right into the steel post. JBL drops Batista with a nice short arm clothesline that sends Batista crashing to the mat. JBL then hits a nice forearm to the back of Batista and he starts laying in the boots to him. JBL goes out and steals a belt from a ring attendant and just lays it into the back of Batista. JBL then takes the belt and wraps it around the neck of Batista and starts to choke him out with it. Batista gets up to his feet and drops JBL with a nice belly to back suplex.

Batista gets up and grabs the leather belt and starts laying it in to JBL. Batista then nails JBL with multiple shoulder blocks in the corner. JBL nails Batista with a big boot out of the corner and he follows that up with a big ass clothesline from hell but Batista kicks out at 2 2/3. JBL goes out and grabs the steel steps and puts them into the ring. JBL is about to go for a piledriver but Batista ends up hitting him with a back drop to reverse the move.

JBL goes for the clothesline from hell again but Batista ends up catching him with a spine buster. Batista then picks up JBL and gets him in the Batista Bomb. Batista is about to go for the cover but he stops and picks up JBL again. This time he goes for the Batista Bomb again and he drops him on the steel steps. Batista goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner and still WWE World Heavyweight Champion….Batista!

Recap:
This match was decent but nothing special. Both guys benefited from the no holds barred rules because a traditional wrestling match wouldn’t have done these guys any favors. JBL got his clothesline in and it was awesome. Batista looked good and ended up showing the Animal at the end of the match by not pinning him when he could. Not a terrible match but it was fun and entertaining so i would give it a peek at least once.

They show a highlight video of the feud between Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels.

Match 8: Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels

When Hogan is walking to the ring they show Shawn in the ring doing a shoveling gimmick as if he is getting buried. What a tool. Shawn just looks totally uninterested as Hogan is doing his posing and shit that he does to start a match. The music finally stops and the crowd is going nuts for both guys. It is still pretty awesome seeing these two in the ring together. They tie up and Hogan just throws Shawn down like a piece of trash. They tie up again and again Hogan throws Shawn down to the mat. Shawn gets back in his face and Hogan just pushes him down as we are getting through the feeling out process.

Hogan ends up hitting Shawn with a shoulder block that sends Shawn flying to the outside over the bottom rope. Shawn gets control with a knee to the gut and then some vicious sounding chops in the corner. Shawn gets whipped into the corner and he lays on the top rope. Hogan comes over and lays in 2-3 kicks to Shawn and then he ends up in the bronco buster on the top rope. Again the over selling by Shawn is just stupid. Shawn gets slammed into the turnbuckle and he does a front flip for no reason.

Shawn gets hit with a nice back body drop and then a clothesline to the outside. Shawn lands on his feet then flips over, jumps up to his feet, and falls back down to sell it. Way to be a cry baby bitch because he didn’t get his way. Hogan ends up flipping Shawn back into the ring and he starts to lay in some more right hands. Hogan then drops Shawn with a nice clothesline. Shawn goes to ram Hogan head first into the turnbuckle but Hogan holds on so Shawn just slaps him in the face. Hogan reverses an irish whip and Shawn goes in upside down to the corner but when Hogan comes in Shawn slaps him in the face again. Hogan gets tired of it and just nails Shawn with a right hand to send him down to the floor.

Hogan goes out after Shawn and body slams him on to the table. Hogan then picks up Shawn and is about to ram him shoulder first into the turnbuckle but Shawn drops down and sends Hogan face first into the post. Shawn then rams Hogan face first into the steel post again. Shawn gets on the apron and just lays in the left hands to Hogan. Both guys get back in the ring and Shawn lays in the right hands off the middle rope until Hogan throws him off. Shawn gets back up and goes back to it but Hogan pushes him off again after 4 punches.

Shawn charges in again and is trying to bust open Hogan with some right hands right above the eye of Hogan. Hogan does the blade job and is gushing blood. I honestly feel like Shawn said to himself that he isn’t going to do business with Hogan because he has done nothing but chops and punches. Shawn gets Hogan in a sleeper hold and blood just covers the arm of Shawn. It looks pretty disgusting. Hogan gets out of the hold with a belly to back suplex that leaves both men down and out.

Shawn ends up hitting Hogan with a flying forearm. Shawn then climbs to the outside and goes for his flying elbow but Hogan moves out of the way. Hogan goes for the big boot but Shawn ends up hitting the flying forearm again but he ends up taking out Hogan and the ref. Shawn climbs to the top rope and is about to go for a move but he then mouths “you want Bret?” So he gets back in the ring and gets the Sharpshooter on Hogan. By the way this is the worst Sharpshooter I have ever seen. Hogan gets to the ropes to break the hold.

Shawn goes for it again but Hogan kicks Shawn off him and they take out another referee. Hogan goes after Shawn but Shawn ends up hitting him with a low blow. Shawn grabs a steel chair and nails Hogan with the unprotected chair shot to the head. Shawn then climbs to the top rope and hits the big elbow on Hogan. Shawn goes to the corner and is calling for some Sweet Chin Music. Shawn ends up hitting the Sweet Chin Music but Hogan kicks out with authority at 2. Hogan hulks up and ends up hitting the big boot that Shawn jumps up for and then spins around and falls back down. Hogan then drops the leg drop and gets the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall….Hulk Hogan!

After the match Hogan is posing in the ring when Shawn gets back in the ring. Shawn says he wanted to know and he found out and then they shake hands. Hogan continues to pose as this one goes to a close.

Recap:
What to say about this match that hasn’t already been said. Shawn acted like a little cry baby bitch and went into business for himself. He didn’t get his way with the trilogy or the win so he decided he was going to do his best to make this match either suck or be all about him. Mission accomplished on both fronts. The over selling was ridiculous and just goes to show what kind of person Shawn has been to deal with once he was able to get a little bit of power in the company. You take away the overselling and you get a guy who did nothing but chops and punches for the entire match. Shawn made sure that the match would suck and if people talked about it then they were going to talk about him and not Hogan. Plain and simple. The after the match stuff was odd because I have no idea what it meant in correlation to all the stories that were going on at that time. Really just a bad way to end a pretty decent show. Thanks Shawn.

Show Recap:
So this card had some good things but it also had its bad stuff. There was nothing spectacular and nothing that stood out as memorable outside of the ladder match. The opener wasn’t even really a match and just Benoit destroying Jordan. Really nothing to say about that one. The second match was pretty brutal and just a brawl and I liked it because of the feud that was involved. Matt took a brutal spot on the steel post and Edge doing the spear through the ropes just looked dangerous but job well done by both guys.

The ladder match was the best match on the card and really delivered on all fronts. The storyline itself was stupid but it really added some emotion to this match and helped enhance it that much more. Some of the spots were just brutal and probably took a couple years off each guy but it looked good and props to them for being willing to do some of them. Just a really good match start to finish and again it was the best match on the card.

Angle vs. Eugene was a glorified squash but Angles aggression and intensity throughout the match was pretty damn awesome. Also, the crowd shitting on the Eugene gimmick is a good enough reason to go in and watch this match. After that we got some stinkers that started with Orton and Taker. Orton controlled the match so we got a ton of rest holds until the last 4-5 minutes where the match got actually good. The return of Bob Orton was interesting and cool to see but not much else good during the match.

The Cena vs. Jericho match wasn’t that great either. Cena did punches and 2-3 moves and thats about it while Jericho controlled the majority of the match. The finish was cool and one F-U actually ending a match is different compared to what we get these days. The world title match between JBL and Batista was solid but nothing special really. The brawling aspects were nice and the spots were sweet. I liked the ending with the power bomb on the steps and Batista unleashing his animal side.

Lastly, we got the Hogan vs. Shawn Match. I am not going to go on about this but Shawn really did the company and this match a disservice by acting like the baby that he was known to be. He didn’t want to do business with Hogan and you can see it throughout the entire match. It’s a shame because these two should have put on a pretty solid match that is remembered for the right reasons instead of all of the wrong reasons.

So, there you have it SummerSlam 2005. This card wasn’t loaded to begin with and the majority of the big matches just came across as flat or boring. The ladder match stole the show but thats to be expected with the two guys involved. I hope you have enjoyed this edition of the Event Center right here on Crazy Max. Next up we are going back to, what seems to be, our favorite era of WCW and thats the year 2000. We are going to continue with the Summer series reviews and we are going to hit up Bash at the Beach. This is a memorable show because of, guess who, Hulk Hogan and the shoot by Vince Russo. I hope you join us for that one but until then enjoy the reading material and thanks for visiting.
