The Event Center: WCW Beach Blast 1993
Introduction:
Hello, and welcome back to CrazyMax’s Event Center. We are continuing our trend of the red hot summer reviews. This time we are going back to the second annual WCW Beach Blast. We get the Masters of the Power Bombs vs. The Super Powers. Thats right we get the classic between Sting and the British bulldog vs. Vader and Sid Vicious. There is going to be a little added bonus when it comes to this specific review so I hope you enjoy that. I haven’t seen this show in quite some time so it is going to be fresh for me as it is for you. I can’t wait to get it started so let’s do it to it.

Show Opening:

They show some cheesy ass graphics for Beach Blast while the voice over guys tells us that the beaches of Biloxi, MS are hot. He then says us that the action will be explosive. He then runs through the card. We got Paul Orndorff vs. Ron Simmons for the TV Title. He asks who the iron man of WCW is going to be between Rick Rude and Dustin Rhodes. We have a World Tag Team title match between Hollywood Blondes vs. Arn Anderson/Paul Roma. We then have the Super Powers vs. the Master of the Power Bombs. Flair will also be in action for the NWA title.

Eric Bischoff then takes over and says that we have 4 title matches and the main event between the Super Powers and the Masters of the Power Bombs. Bischoff and Missy Hyatt are standing on a make shift beach as they run through the card. Bischoff says it is going to be a tremendous night of hard hitting action. Missy says she is excited so Bischoff sends us down ringside to Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura.

Tony says the summer is red hot and so is the action. Jesse isn’t ringside but they head back up to the entrance ramp to locate Jesse. He is behind a bar at the start of the entrance ramp. Jesse then says he is going to come down to the ring with his four ladies as the lights start to go out for no reason. Jesse then grabs his ladies and heads toward the ring. Jesse finally shows up ringside. Jesse says he barely made it but he says the girls are going to hang around until after Beach Blast and then they will finish where they left off but Tony can’t ask them where they left off. Tony then sends us up to the ring to kick off Beach Blast.

Match 1: WCW Television Title Match: Paul Orndoff (c) vs. Ron Simmons

They let us know that if Paul Orndorff gets disqualified then he will lose the TV Title anyways. Before the match even starts the fans start chanting Paula, Paula and this infuriates Orndorff. He won’t even take his robe off because he is so hot. Orndorff is on the apron and when he turns around Simmons nails him with a right hand and knocks him off the apron. Simmons goes out after him and he pulls the robe off Orndorff and gets him back in the ring. Simmons drops him with a couple of right hands and then he whips him into the ropes and hits him with a back elbow. Simmons whips Orndorff into the ropes and ends up hitting him with a drop kick for a 2 count.

Orndorff rolls to the outside to get a breather. He gets back in the ring and they are being a little timid as they are feeling each other out. Orndorff hits Simmons with a nice looking drop toe hold and goes for an elbow but Simmons moves out of the way. Simmons then grabs the arm of Orndorff and starts to work with over with rights and kicks plus an arm bar. Simmons gets Orndorff in a hammer lock but Orndorff gets out of it with a big time elbow to the face of Simmons.

Orndorff lays in the right hands and he whips Simmons into the corner but Simmons gets out of the way as Orndorff crashes into the corner with his elbow. Simmons goes back to the arm bar until he whips Orndorff into the ropes. Simmons goes for a clothesline but Orndorff ducks under and jumps on the back of Simmons with a sleeper hold. Orndorff then pushes Simmons into the corner and ends up dropping Simmons with a belly to back suplex. Orndorff ends up going to the top rope and goes for a diving knee drop but Simmons gets out of the way and Orndorff goes crashing to the mat.

Simmons gets up and starts kicking the bad leg of Orndorff. Simmons drags Orndorff to the middle of the ring and takes his foot and drives the knee into the mat. Simmons then takes the leg of Orndorff and drapes it across the bottom rope and he jumps down on it. Simmons then puts Orndorff in a figure four leg lock but Orndorff is in the ropes so the hold is broken. Orndorff goes to the outside and Simmons goes out but Orndorff grabs him and pulls him out to the floor with him. Orndorff rams Simmons head first into the TV on the announce table and he follows that up with 3-4 chops to the chest. Orndorff throws Simmons into the ring and gets Simmons in a reverse chin lock to work the neck of Simmons.

Simmons gets back to his feet and drives the elbows into the midsection. Simmons hits the ropes and drops Orndorff with a shoulder block. He goes for another one but Orndorff hits Simmons with a knee to the gut and then a high knee to the face. Orndorff then gets Simmons in a head lock in the middle of the ring. Simmons again gets to his feet and fights out of the head lock. Simmons nails Orndorff with some rights and lefts before he whips Orndorff into the corner. Simmons charges in and gets hit with a big boot. Orndorff then grabs Simmons by the head and drives him head first into the mat. Orndorff then gets Simmons in the reverse chin lock again.

Orndorff and Simmons exchange rights, lefts and kicks before Orndorff rakes the eyes of Simmons. Simmons reverses an irish whip and ends up dropping Orndorff with a power slam for a 2 1/2 count. Orndorff gets up to his feet and lays in a few right hands to Simmons. Simmons ends up hitting Orndorff with a sunset flip out of an irish whip and gets a 2 count. We get another irish whip and Orndorff misses a drop kick on Simmons. Orndorff gets up and Simmons whips Orndorff into the ropes and he charges in and hits him with a clothesline.

Simmons drops Orndorff with a back elbow for a 2 count. Simmons picks up Orndorff and he hits him with a nice looking suplex for another 2 count. Orndorff gets up to his feet and he ends up thumbing Simmons in the eye. Orndorff then goes for a pile driver on Simmons but Simmons ends up blocking it and back dropping Orndorff to the outside. Your winner by disqualification….Paul Orndorff!

After the match Simmons throws Orndorff back into the ring and then he goes up to the top rope and hits Orndorff with a flying shoulder block. Orndorff then takes his TV title belt and swings it at Simmons but Simmons moves out of the way and ends up decking Orndorff with a right hand. Orndorff gets the hell out of dodge as Simmons talks to the ref about what happened and why he got disqualified.

Recap:
This was a pretty good match here but it’s ruined by a stupid finish. I hated the over the top rope rule and the fact that it lasted until 97-98 is beyond me. Neither guy really maintained the advantage throughout the match so that made it entertaining from bell to bell. The DQ finish ruins things a little bit but it is still a nice little opener to a pay per view.

They go ringside to Tony and Jesse where they are talking about what title matches they have to come. Jesse is messing with his goggles and then he makes fun of Tony for what is on his nose. Jesse believes that Sting and Davey Boy should have taken the tickets to Tahiti and not even shown up for this match tonight. They then discuss the match between Ric Flair and Barry Windham.

Match 2: Marcus Bagwell/2 Cold Scorpio vs. Tex Slazenger/Shanghi Pierce

The match starts off with Bagwell and Pierce in the ring. They tie up and Pierce immediately drives Bagwell into the corner but we get a clean break, shockingly. We tie up again and Bagwell gets a side head lock but Pierce pushes him off and Bagwell tries to drop him with a few shoulder blocks to no avail. Bagwell does a baseball slide between the legs of Pierce and ends up hitting him with a nice cross body. 2 Cold gets in the ring as Pierce rolls out of the ring. Bagwell and 2 Cold then drop Tex on the mat.

Bagwell gets on all fours and 2 Cold runs to jump off it but he slips and falls over the top rope on to his face. Luckily the camera panned away to where you couldn’t really see it but that was pretty bad. 2 Cold recovers by laying in some right hands on the apron and then he hits a twisting cross body off the middle rope. This pisses Tex and Shanghi off as they take a powder on the outside of the ring. Tex gets in the ring now with Bagwell but Tex wants some of 2 Cold so Bagwell makes the tag to Scorpio. Scorpio gets in the ring and starts dancing in front of Tex to show him up.

We get a tie up between Scorpio and Tex and Tex gets Scorpio in a head lock but Scorpio pushes off and ends up getting dropped with a shoulder block by Tex. Scorpio gets back up to his feet and hits the ropes but ends up getting hit with a big time back body drop. Looks like Scorpio got to much elevation because he went flying and damn near got his feet caught on the top rope where he could have fell down and snapped his neck. That was pretty damn close there but what a sweet looking back drop that was.

Tex picks up Scorpio and drives him into the corner. Tex picks up Scorpio and puts him on the top rope but Scorpio ends up blocking some kicks and he hits Tex with a cross body off the middle rope for a 2 count. Scorpio then gets up and hits Tex with a nice looking drop kick followed by a arm drag. Bagwell gets the tag and they hit a double lay down hip toss for a 2 count. Bagwell goes to the arm but Tex ends up nailing Bagwell and getting the tag to Pierce. Pierce comes charging in but gets hit with a drop toe hold. Bagwell does an up top down low 2-3 times before he hits a hip toss on Pierce. Bagwell gets right back in the arm bar to get a little bit of a rest here.

Pierce breaks free from the arm bar and hits Bagwell with a body slam. Tex gets the tag and he comes in and gets hit with an arm drag and in an arm bar. Bagwell gets up and hits Tex with a suplex and he floats over for a 2 count. Bagwell gets whipped into the ropes and Pierce ends up hitting Bagwell in the back with a knee. Tex picks up Bagwell and drags him to the corner and drops him with an arm bar. Tex then gets Bagwell in a hammer lock as he drives his head into the arm for more pressure. Pierce gets the tag and he drops a boot to the arm off the middle rope. We get quick tags as both guys work over the arm of Bagwell.

Tex whips Bagwell into the ropes but Bagwell hits Tex with a sunset flip for a 2 count. Both guys get back to their feet and Tex nails Bagwell with a nice clothesline for a 2 count before Scorpio breaks up the pin. Pierce comes in and hits Bagwell with an ax handle off the middle rope. Pierce puts Bagwell in the corner as he distracts the ref so Tex can work the arm in the corner. Pierce gets a snap mare into a head lock. Bagwell gets up to his feet and gets free but he gets caught and Pierce ends up dropping him with a nice gut wrench power bomb for a 2 count. Tex gets the tag and he comes in and starts to work the arm once again of Bagwell.

Pierce gets tagged in and he drops a big elbow to the neck of Bagwell. Pierce picks up Bagwell and drops him with a body slam. Pierce goes for a big elbow but Bagwell gets out of the way. Tex gets the tag and he stops Bagwell from being able to make the tag. Tex drops Bagwell with a shoulder breaker as Pierce hits a big elbow and gets a 2 count. Pierce whips Bagwell into the ropes and comes charging in with an elbow but Bagwell gets out of the way and ends up making the tag to Scorpio. He comes in and drops Pierce with some right hands and then he nails Tex with a beautiful side kick. Scorpio then hits Pierce with a big time kick and he follows that up with an sweet looking splash off the top rope. That looked awesome.

All four guys are now in the ring and they are separated in different corners. Bagwell and Scorpio end up irish whipping Tex and Pierce into each other in the middle of the ring. Scorpio hits Tex with a drop kick. Pierce goes for a right hand but Bagwell catches him with a belly to back suplex. Scorpio then comes off the top rope with a 450 splash for the 1-2-3. Your winners by pinfall….2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell!

Recap:
This match wasn’t bad here. I was expecting garbage from Tex and Pierce but they showed up for this one. Scorpio and Bagwell had some pretty good offense sprinkled in throughout the match. Bagwell was the right guy to take all the damage because he did a pretty good job of selling it. Scorpio was so far ahead of his time as far as wrestling in the US is concerned. He was doing things nobody would even think of doing and it was just awesome. He damn near got injured with the back drop but his big splash looked cool as shit. Also, a guy in 1993 doing a 450 splash for the win? Thats whats up. All in all a pretty solid match here as well and we are off to a pretty damn good start for this show.

Ringside Interview: Paul Orndorff and Equalizer

Missy says it looks like Simmons nearly took the TV title. Missy says that there are a lot of men in the WCW that would love to take that title from Mr. Wonderful. Orndorff tells us that now we know why he is called the John Wayne of professional wrestling. Orndorff says he plays straight down the middle by the rules. Orndorff says that Simmons should be fined and penalized and kicked out of the WCW for deliberately throwing Orndorff over the top rope. Orndorff says Simmons knew he had him beat with the pile driver. Orndorff said Simmons choked like Florida State always does. Orndorff says his good friend is the Equalizer and he is going to get equal with a lot of people.

Missy says that Steamboat would love to take the title from Orndorff. Orndorff calls Steamboat the old man with the gray hair. Orndorff calls him the old man at the sea because he is balding and has to put black stuff in his hair. Orndorff says Steamboat is not worthy of his TV Title. Missy then sends us back to the ring announcer to get us started on the next match.

Match 3: Lord Steven Regal vs. Erik Watts

Watts is coming out and they end up showing the name plate for Lord Steven Regal. Bill Watts getting fired before this show so Erik is no longer getting that undeserved push so he doesn’t even get his own name plate. We get this one started with a tie up but Regal keeps breaking free of it because he doesn’t want to touch the commoner. They tie up for real finally and its more of a test of strength than anything else. Regal ends up getting the upper hand with an arm bar on Watts. Watts reverses it and gets Regal in an arm bar of his own.

The arm bar is the favorite of anyone so far tonight, Randy Orton would be proud. Regal does a roll through and then a monkey flip but Watts ends up holding on to the wrist lock and he keeps the advantage. Regal snaps Watts over and then drops a knee to the arm to break free of the wrist lock. Regal goes right back to working the arm with a wrist lock. Watts does a step over and ends up on the arm of Regal and Regal flips him but Watts kicks off and he ends up getting the upper hand and another arm bar on Regal.

Watts ends up dropping a knee to the arm of Regal but Regal ends up kicking Watts in the back of the head while he is just sitting there. Regal was so good at doing little things that had to piss people off during the match. Little things like kicking him in the back or grinding his forearm into your face during a pin. Just great stuff. Regal ends up getting a double wrist lock but Watts powers out. Watts does a roll through and gets out of the hold until Regal gets the wrist lock again.

They are doing a test of strength and Regal ends up getting a pinning combination out of nothing which was pretty damn cool. They exchanged 2-3 near falls on the mat. Regal looks a little baffled at how well Watts is keeping up with him. Watts goes right back to the wrist lock and then a hammer lock but Regal drives Watts into the corner and hits him with a back elbow. Regal hits Watts with a drop toe hold only for Watts to break free and ends up getting the arm bar on Regal again. Watts continues to work the arm of Regal until Regal ends up hitting Watts with a back drop. However, Watts grabs the legs and gets a near fall on Regal with a sunset flip.

Regal starts working over the ankle and the leg of Watts. Regal snaps the leg and then hits a few European uppercuts in the corner. Regal snap mares Watts over and then pulls down his knee pad and tries to drop a knee but Watts gets out of the way. Watts then whips Regal into the ropes and ends up kicking him in the bad knee. Watts then goes for the STF but William hits him in the face with an open hand slap. Regal ends up hitting Watts in the back and then rolls him up and pulls the trunks to get the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall….Lord Steven Regal!

Recap:
This match won’t be for everyone but there was a lot of good back and forth action throughout. Watts surprised me here a little bit with how well he kept up with Regal. I figured Regal would just school him on the mat and dominate the match but that wasn’t the case and it turned out to be a pretty good match all around. Nice stuff so far out of this card. Let’s see how long they can keep it up.

They show a vignette for Fall Brawl: War Games. Live September 19th on pay per view!

Ringside Interview: Lord Steven Regal & Sir William

Regal says he didn’t even break a sweat in beating him. Regal says that he saw Orndorff retained his TV Title. Regal says he wants to take back his TV Title. Regal says Orndorff better watch out because like the great Winston Churchill said “We will fight them on the beaches, we will fight them in the trenches, but no where is safe when the Queen has sent their lordship on a mission.” Regal then tells William that he hopes he has those crumpets toasted well because it is time to go.

They show the video of Maxx Payne shooting the Badd Blaster into the face of Johnny B. Badd from Clash of the Champions.

Match 4: Johnny B. Badd vs. Maxx Payne

This one starts with Johnny taking Maxx down and laying in the right hands. Johnny has a mask on to sell the damage from the Badd Blaster from Clash of the Champions. Johnny ends up hitting Payne with a cross body for a 2 count. Both guys get up and they exchange left and right hands. Johnny whips Maxx into the corner but he goes for a splash and Maxx moves out of the way as Johnny goes flying over the top rope. That couldn’t have felt good because it looks like he nailed his back on the post and he didn’t really have control of where he was going. That looked bad.

Badd gets back into the ring and Maxx ends up hitting him with a suplex. Maxx then grabs the arm of Badd and hits him with a body slam to work over the arm. Maxx then whips Badd into the corner and he comes charging in with a back elbow. Maxx snaps Badd over and starts to work the arm some more. Badd gets back to his feet and lays in the right hands to Maxx to break free. Maxx then picks up Badd and drops him with a back breaker for a 2 count.

Maxx goes for a clothesline and misses but Badd goes for a cross body but Maxx catches him and hits him with a body slam. Maxx goes for an elbow but Badd gets out of the way.

Both guys get up and Badd hits Payne with a drop kick and Maxx goes to the outside. Badd goes up and over the top rope to the outside but completely misses Maxx with the cross body. Badd tried to drive Maxx into the steel post but Maxx pushes him off and sends Badd into the post. Maxx goes for a clothesline into the post but Badd moves out of the way. Badd rolls Maxx into the ring and then he goes off the middle rope with a cross body for the 1-2-3. Your winner by pinfall….Johnny B. Badd!

Recap:
This match was kind of crappy if you ask me. It was real sloppy and not really good. There was too much wrestling for a grudge match if you ask me. If it is a grudge match and a guy damn near ended your career, storyline wise, why in the hell are you going to work an arm or a leg? Why not just go all out and brawl and get your revenge on the guy. That never really makes sense to me. Also, with the stupid no off the top rope rules in place Badd had to go off the middle rope with a cross body to get an ugly ass finish. Just too many things hindered this match for me to enjoy it. Our first eh match of the night.

They go ringside where Tony and Jesse talk about the next title match between the Hollywood Blondes vs. Arn Anderson/Paul Roma. Jesse keeps messing with the shit on Tony’s nose and he ends up wiping it on the neck of Tony. Tony says if he would want one tag partner it would be Arn Anderson. Jesse says he will stick with the Blondes because they are still the champions and they will be the best until they lose.

Match 5: WCW World Tag Team Title Match: Hollywood Blondes (c) vs. Arn Anderson/Paul Roma

Looks like this one is going to start off with Austin and Paul Roma. Pillman goes after a fan on the outside but Austin goes out and stops him from hurting the guy. The fan is getting right in the face of Pillman, thats probably not a good idea but he did it anyways. They are a little timid as they start off here until we finally get a tie up and Austin drives Roma into the corner. Austin drives his hands into the face of Roma as he backs off. We tie up again and this time Roma drives Austin into the corner until Austin reverses it and drives his hands in the face of Roma again.

They exchange hammer locks until they break free and Roma just drops Austin with a big time right hand. Austin rolls to the outside and Pillman goes out to check on him and his face. Pillman then gives Austin a kiss on the cheek to bring in that heel heat. Such a classic heel move. Austin gets back in the ring and tags in Pillman. They tie up and Roma drives Pillman into the corner and we get a clean break. We tie up again and this time we get an arm bar by Roma who ends up tagging in Anderson and he drops an elbow to Pillman. Pillman ends up getting dropped with a big time back elbow that floors him. Arn then mocks the Blondes by doing the film reel gesture.

Pillman goes up and over on an irish wisp and then he drops Arn with a hip toss. Arn grabs the hair of Pillman and just throws him to the mat out of an arm ringer. We get another tie up and an arm bar by Arn but Pillman breaks free and tags in Austin and he gets hit with an arm drag right away. Austin ends up hitting Arm with a back drop and then drops the elbow on Arn. Austin tries to get a pin but only gets 1 counts until Arn gets back up and just nails Austin with 3-4 right hands that send Austin out on to the entrance ramp. Austin crawls back into the ring and extends his hand for a hand shake that Arn ends up shaking and then nails Austin with a kick. Arn works the arm and he tags in Roma who comes off the top rope with a club to the arm of Austin.

The move of the night so far is the arm ringer because Roma does it again on Austin to keep control. Austin gets up and he catches Roma in a bear hug but Roma falls through and gets a sunset flip on Austin for a 2 1/2 count. Austin picks up Roma again and this time they get in a back slide and Roma damn near gets the 3 but Austin gets out at 2 1/2 again. Austin misses a clothesline on the irish whip but Roma ends up missing a cross body as Austin quickly makes the tag to Pillman. He comes in and lays in a vicious chop to Roma. Roma reverses an irish whip and ends up getting Pillman in a choke hold and he carries him over to the middle rope and is about to hit him with a right hand but Pillman jumps over him but Roma drops him with a clothesline anyways.

Arn gets back in the ring and he goes back to the arm of Pillman. Pillman drives Arn into the corner and ends up hitting him with a knee lift and some chops. Pillman tries to go up and over again but Arn catches him and he ends up dropping Pillman across the top rope. Arn then catapults Pillman into Roma and he nails him with a right hand. Arn tries to whip Pillman into the ropes but he just falls down and Jesse says it’s because the knee buckled. Arn tries it again and again Pillman just falls down again. Pillman then pushes the ref out of the way and he dives at the knee of Arn and ends up throwing him out of the ring. Pillman goes for a cross body off the apron but Arn gets out of the way and Pillman goes crashing into the guard rail.

Pillman ends up back in the ring and Arn goes for a suplex but Pillman blocks it but Arn tags in Roma and he goes over the top and hits a sunset flip off the top rope for a 2 count. Roma gets up and floors Austin off the apron but Pillman gets up and hits Roma with a big knee to get control of the match. Pillman distracts the ref and allows Austin to pick up Roma and drop him across the guard rail. Pillman then chokes Roma on the bottom rope until the ref makes him break it.

Austin gets tagged in and he comes in and kicks Roma right in the gut and then gets him in a gut wrench suplex. Austin then drops Roma with a short arm clothesline. Austin then starts to do some push ups and telling Roma to come on. Who does he think he is, Scott Steiner? Anyways, Austin drops some knees across the chest of Roma as he goes for the tag to Pillman. Pillman comes in and lays in the brutal sounding chops to Roma. Roma starts starts to fire back but Pillman drops him with a drop toe hold as he tags back in Austin.

Austin whips Roma into the corner but Roma gets the boot up and drops Austin. Austin gets up and nails Arn off the rope so Roma can’t get the tag. The Blondes then double team Roma in the corner while the ref tells Arn to get out of the ring. Roma ends up breaking free and he goes off the top rope with a drop kick but Pillman goes for a drop kick at the same time but both guys miss each other. That looked stupid as hell.

Austin gets the tag and so does Arn. Arn comes in and nails Austin with a big back drop and then he drops them both with some right hands. Arn ends up dropping Pillman with a DDT and he goes for the cover but Austin nails Arn in the back of the head with an ax handle. Austin gets tagged back in and he drops Arn with a body slam. Austin goes up to the top rope and drops the big elbow for a 2 count. Austin starts laying in the boots to Arn until Arn gets to his feet and he starts laying in the boots and the head butts to Austin. Austin drives the face of Arn into the foot of Pillman who gets the tag.

Arn is trying to fight back but Pillman stops the momentum with an eye rake. Pillman tags Austin back in and he comes in and starts laying the boots to Arn until he throws him outside. Pillman then rams the head of Arn into the guard rail as the ref is distracted by Austin. Austin goes out after Arn and goes for a pile driver but Arn ends up reversing it and he back drops Austin on the floor. Arn gets back in the ring and tries to get the tag but Austin stops him and ends up going for a pin for a 2 count. Arn goes for a DDT on Austin but Austin blocks it and hangs Arn on the top rope. Austin distracts the ref as Pillman lays in some forearms to Arn.

Arn blocks a bear hug type move and drops Austin across the top rope. Austin tags in Pillman and Roma gets in the ring but Arn gets an inside cradle but the ref doesn’t get there in time. Pillman ends up running the ropes as Arn drops down but Arn gets up and Pillman just runs right into him as both guys are laid out in the ring. Pillman makes the tag but again Arn is unable to make the tag so Austin comes in and drops Arn with a belly to back suplex. Arn ends up on the apron and he ends up fighting off both Austin and Pillman. Austin then goes for a suplex onto the inside but Arn reverses it and suplexes Austin to the outside. That looked brutal. Austin ends up landing on his stomach.

Arn gets back in the ring and tries to get the tag but Austin tags in Pillman and he stops the tag of Arn to Roma. Pillman ends up dropping Arn with a head scissors take over. Pillman climbs to the middle rope and goes for an ax handle but Arn drops him with a right hand. Arn finally makes the tag to Roma while Pillman tags in Austin. Roma comes in on fire and hits Austin with a big back drop and then a gorilla press slam on Pillman. All four guys are now in the ring as Arn drops Austin with a right hand. Roma then whips Austin into the ropes and Arn drops him with the spine buster. Roma goes for the cover and gets a 2 when Pillman breaks up the pin. Roma gets a roll up on Austin but Pillman nails him with a clothesline and then Austin ends up rolling up Roma and he grabs the tights as he gets the 1-2-3. Your winners by way of pinfall and still WCW Tag Team Champions….Hollywood Blondes!

Recap:
This was a damn good match here from start to finish. It starts a little slow but once it got going it was all really done well. The Blondes were awesome and its a shame politics shut them down way too soon. The finish was a good way to end the match and was really well done. Roma did his part and did pretty well being in the ring with these 3 guys. Arn was the professional that he always is and he actually did a pretty good job of taking all of the punishment. He made it believable throughout the match and it was just really done. This is probably going to be the best match on the card and for good reason. Definitely worth checking out this match.

Rude then grabs the head of Rhodes and drops him over the top rope and he falls back on the entrance ramp. That looked pretty sweet there. More chin locks and rest holds as the clock ticks down. Rude goes for a tombstone but Rhodes gets out of it and dumps Rude with a tombstone of his own. Rhodes goes for the cover and gets a 2 count. Rhodes goes for a cross body and he just goes flying over the top rope as Rude gets out of the way.

The clock is ticking down to about 10 minutes remaining in this Iron Man challenge. Rude snaps off a few suplexes and goes for the cover but can only get a 2 count. Rude is going for a third suplex but Rhodes reverses it and drops Rude with a suplex of his own. Rude climbs up to the top rope and hits an a forearm again. Rude then yells “you aint shit Rhodes.” Jesse is getting on to Rude saying he is only up 1-0 so he should be doing more to get ahead further instead of putting it on ice. Rude gets a chin lock on with only 8 minutes left. Rhodes breaks free until Rude gets him in a sleeper holder in the middle of the ring.

There are only 5 minutes left in the match. Rude then blows his snot into the face of Rhodes. That was disgusting. Rude rakes the eyes of Rhodes and he ends up falling to the outside by going over the top rope. Rude is hitting Rhodes with right hands but ducking on Rhodes right hands. Rude ducks on the third punch but Rhodes doesn’t go for the punch and he ends up dropping Rude with his running bulldog. Rhodes goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-3 with 3:08 left. This match is tied at 1-1 with 3 minutes left. That was a great sequence of action right there. Love the psychology of this one.

Rhodes drops the elbow off the top rope and tries to get another pin but Rude kicks out. 2 minutes remaining in the match. Rhodes drops Rude with a pile driver but Rude gets the leg on the rope to break up the pin. We are down to the final 60 seconds of the match and Rhodes is dropping Rude with numerous clotheslines. Rude kicks out after 2 again. Rhodes gets Rude in a sleeper hold with about 35 seconds remaining in the match. Rude breaks free with the chin breaker. Rude gets up and goes to the top rope and he just jumps over Rhodes. Rhodes drops Rude with a DDT and goes for the cover with 2 seconds remaining then the bell rings. This match is a draw!

Recap:
This match was fun and entertaining throughout. Both guys delivered and put on a pretty good match. There were some rest holds but in between those was a lot of action. Rude got the early victory but he made the one mistake that allowed Rhodes to get it tied back up. I really liked the rush finish towards the end and Rhodes trying to get that last second victory. Just a really good match from bell to bell and it is definitely worth checking out.

They go to Jesse and Tony ringside where they discuss the feud between Ric Flair and Barry Windham.

They also show highlights of what has gone on between Flair and Windham that led to their match.

Match 7: NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Barry Windham (c) vs. Ric Flair

This match should be pretty damn good because both guys know each other so well. This was going to be the main event of Great American Bash 1991 but we got Luger instead and now here we are. We start this one off with both guys just circling until we get a tie up. The match starts off with both guys exchanging right hands and chops until Flair ends up getting drilled with a clothesline out of the corner by Windham.

They trade rights and chops some more until Windham drops to the outside and takes a breather. Windham whips Flair into the corner and Flair goes flying out of the ring to the outside. Jesse comments that Flair usually ends up on the apron but not this time. Windham heads out after Flair and drops him his big clothesline. Windham hits a nice vertical suplex on Flair and brings him back into the ring. Windham is being slow and methodical and working at his own pace. Flair gets the upper hand with a poke to the eye and he follows that up with a clothesline in the corner and some more chops.

They exchange some moves before Flair gets Windham in a sleeper hold in the middle of the ring. Windham drops down and sends Flair head first into the corner and Flair does his patented Flair flop. I always did love that. Windham drops Flair with a big time samoan drop right on the back of Flair. Windham is going with the power moves now as he drops Flair with a nice looking power slam for a 2 count. Windham hits Flair with another flying clothesline for another 2 count. Windham is starting to get frustrated with the referee here because he feels like this one should be over.

They exchange chops and rights until Flair drops Windham with 3 chops to the chest. No thanks on ever taking one of those from Flair. This match is just plodding along here and really nothing going on. Flair goes for a flying cross body but the ref got in the way so Flair couldn’t really connect and so Windham just jumps to the outside. What a shitty looking spot that was. Flair gets drug out with him and Windham drops him with a body slam on the outside. Windham goes to the middle rope for some right hands but Flair ends up dropping him with an atomic drop to gain control of the match.

Flair goes for a suplex on Windham but Windham ends up blocking it and he puts Flair on the top rope. Windham heads up to the top with him and he goes for the superplex off the top rope and nails him with it. Flair is screaming in pain while he holds his back. Windham goes to the top rope and goes for a big elbow but Flair rolls out of the way and both guys are laid out in the middle of the ring. Flair gets whipped into the corner and ends up flipping over and hits Windham with a cross body off the top rope but Windham rolls through and damn near gets a 3 count.

Flair ends up dropping Windham with a belly to back suplex but it injures the lower back of Flair as well. Flair finally targets the leg and starts working the knee. He goes for the figure four but Windham rolls out of it and gets to the ropes. He then kicks Windham in the knee and drops him and he ends up putting him in the figure four and the ref counts the 1-2-3. The ref rang for the bell but the bell didn’t ring so this finish just came across flat as hell. Just felt anti-climatic of a finish that I have seen for a title match. Your winner and new NWA World Heavyweight Champion….Ric Flair!

Recap:
Well this match wasn’t that great if you ask me. Flair’s offense was nothing but chops and right hands. He did his normal shit but nothing special at all from him. Windham had some nice offense and did some nice power moves but there was really nothing special here. This match didn’t mesh well and both guys just seemed off. The ending was the shits as well because Flair gets the figure four on for about 5 seconds when the ref ends up counting the three. Both guys continued to work because the bell didn’t sound right away and it just made the finish completely flat and anti-climatic. It’s symbolic of how this match was, nothing spectacular and it ended with a dud.

They go back to Bischoff and Missy on the beach towards the entrance. They discuss the main event between the Super Powers vs. Masters of the Power Bomb. Missy says there is no doubt in her mind that the masters of the power bomb will stomp out Sting and Davey Boy Smith.

Match 8: Sting/Davey Boy Smith vs. Vader/Sid Vicious

Just wanna say that Sting and Davey Boy looked awesome together as a tag team. They just looked awesome. Anyways, we start this one off with Sting and Sid. Sid gets right in the face of Sting and shoves him but Sting retaliates with a tackle and some right hands to Sid. Sting then drives Sid face first into the mat and goes for a sunset flip that Sid doesn’t go down for. Sting then drives Sid into the mat again and then a big clothesline but it does nothing as Sid picks up Sting and just dumps him with a one handed choke slam. We are off and running here. All four men get in the ring as Sid throws out Davey Boy and Vader throws out Sting. Sid and Vader are celebrating in the ring as Sting and Davey Boy climb to the top rope and come off and nail Vader and Sid with clotheslines. That looked pretty damn sweet with both guys jumping off the top rope at the same time like that.

The Super Powers have the advantage as Sid and Vader go to the outside and regroup. This crowd is hot as hell for Sting and Davey Boy right now. Sid tries to get back into the ring but Sting ends up dropping him with some right hands. Bulldog gets the tag in as Sid tags in Vader. These two big guys tie up and Vader just starts mauling the Bulldog in corner with lefts and rights. Vader ends up picking up the Bulldog for a suplex but Davey Boy goes over and ends up going for a suplex of his own on Vader and he gets him in the standing vertical suplex. What strength and power by Davey Boy there. That was so damn impressive.

Vader kicks out of the pin so Davey gets up and charges at Vader and Vader just drops him with a big ass clothesline type move where he uses both of his arms and just smacks the head of the Bulldog. Sid gets the tag in and Vader just runs into Bulldog and Sid ends up dropping him with a big boot. Sid continues to keep control with fists and kicks and rest holds. Your typical offense for a guy the size of Sid. Sid tags in Vader and he comes in and nails Davey Boy with another shot off the ropes. Vader gets pissed off and rips his mask off as Sting tries to get in to help out Davey Boy.

Davey Boy goes for a sunset flip but Vader tries to jump on him but Davey gets out of the way. Sid tags in and drops Bulldog with an ax handle off the middle rope. Bulldog breaks free and drops Sid with a body slam and he tries for a tag but Sid grabs him and tags in Vader. Harley Race gets on the apron to hold up the Bulldog and Vader ends up running into him and knocking Harley off the apron. Davey finally tags in Sting and he comes in a house of fire and lays in the rights to both guys.Sid is in a rocking chair position on the ropes as he drops Vader with a big time drop kick.

Sting is cleaning house early on here. Sting moves out of the splash by Vader but Sid nails him from behind and then Vader drops him with a brutal sounding clothesline. This allows Vader and Sid to regain control. Sid gets the tag and he comes in and works over Sting. Sid chokes Sting for a little while until he tags in Vader, who comes in and just lays in the rights and lefts to the head. Vader climbs up to the middle rope and he ends up nailing Sting with the move he has been doing all night. Vader then picks up Sting and puts him on the top rope and Vader goes up with him and tries to hit him with the Superplex. Sting starts biting Vader as he knocks him off the rope.

Sid gets tagged back in and he starts working the midsection of Sting. Sid misses an elbow as both guys are laid out in the middle of the ring. Sting gets the tag to Davey Boy and he comes in red hot and starts nailing Sid with numerous clotheslines. He goes for a third one but Sid nails him with a big boot. Vader gets tagged in and he picks up Davey Boy and drops him with the samoan drop in the corner. We finally get a pin attempt and Davey Boy kicks out at 2. Vader ends up going to the middle rope and goes for the Vader Splash and he nails Davey Boy with it. Vader goes for the cover but Sting ends up making the save.

Sid comes into the ring and throws Sting to the apron and they start brawling on the outside. Meanwhile, Vader goes to the top rope and nails his moonsault on Davey Boy. Sting then comes out of no where and nails Vader with a splash over the top from the apron. Davey Boy goes for a crucifix pin and he gets the 1-2-3 on Vader. Your winners by way of pinfall….The Super Powers Davey Boy Smith and Sting!

After the match is over, Vader goes out towards the commentary table and starts yelling at Tony Schiavone. Vader then picks up a chair and just slams it on the ground.

Recap:
This was a pretty good match to end the show. The things Vader was doing at this time were just incredible and a joy to watch. The moonsault at the end as well as the Vader Splash off the middle rope are just awesome to see. Sid did his part with the big ass one handed choke slam on Sting at the start of the match. All in all this was a great way to send the fans home happy and a nice way to finish up this pay per view. I would recommend checking out this match at least once because you won’t be disappointed.

Show Recap:
Well that about does it for another episode of the Event Center right here on CrazyMax. This card was pretty solid from top to bottom and is a joy to watch. Most of the matches delivered outside of a couple and it definitely makes this show worth watching. The opener was solid between Orndorff and Simmons but the finish kind of ruined that one for me. Erik Watts vs. Regal was different but entertaining because I was surprised that Watts hung with Regal as well as he did. The tag match between Tex and Shanghi vs. 2 Cold and Bagwell wasn’t bad either. 2 Cold looked awesome during the match and so did Bagwell. He moved rather quickly and got the best possible match out of Tex and Shanghi.

Johnny B. Badd and Maxx Payne was just eh to me because it was too much like a wrestling match when it should have been a brawl based off what Maxx did to Badd at Clash of the Champions. The Blondes vs. Horsemen was tremendous and really highlighted how good of a tag team the Blondes really were. Just a great match up and between Austin and Arn Anderson its really hard to say who was the best guy in the match. All four guys delivered and it is the best match on the card.

Rhodes vs. Rude was the second best match and again was fun as hell from beginning to end. I liked the Iron Man challenge aspect of this match because it really helped out the ending because they were both trying to get that quick pin at the end but couldn’t get it done. The match told a great story and it really highlighted how great both guys really were.

The last two matches were sloppy but they weren’t bad and are fun to watch. The ending of the title match really ruins the whole match for me. Flair didn’t do much more than punches and chops during the match but to get a pin fall victory with the figure four after it only being applied for 2-3 seconds is a joke. The fact the bell didn’t ring right away really took away from the finish as well. The commentators were even surprised with the finish because it felt like it wasn’t supposed to happen. That took away from the whole match for me and thats a shame because both of those guys can really go.

The main event was another solid tag team match on a card with 2 other pretty good tag matches. Sting and Bulldog looked awesome together and I am glad that we got at least one main event out of them together. Vader and Sid were the perfect opponents for them and it made for a good main event. Bulldog looked good and Sting stole the show if you ask me. Vader doing a moonsault was bad ass as hell. But this match suffered a little bit because of the finish. The crucifix pin after nothing pins your Heavyweight Champion? That doesn’t make much sense to me but I guess it works because it allows the Bulldog to get another title shot later on down the line. All in all this was a good way to send the crowd home happy so i can’t complain too much.

Well there you have it, I hope you enjoyed this review of WCW Beach Blast 1993. This was a fun show to watch and I hope you enjoyed the read as well. I am going to be switching things up going forward with the reviews so look out for a change there. Less play by play, more opinions, and just the meat and potatoes of what people look for when it comes to reading these things. We will be continuing our summer series here with WWF SummerSlam 1991 next. Until then, thanks again for reading and be on the look out for whats coming up next right here on the Event Center only on CrazyMax!
