Earlier this month, legendary Japanese wrestler Keiji Mutoh (a/k/a The Great Muta) vowed to attack Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson during his visit this weekend in Tokyo to promote the release of Hercules. At a promotional event on Sunday, Mutoh, dressed as Hercules, confronted Johnson.
After engaging in some banter, the two shook hands.
Johnson then called it an honor to meet the legendary Mutoh, and called him inspiring.
Mutoh has been angling for a match with Johnson in Japan since 2002. In May of that year, he met with Johnson to discuss wrestling each other while Johnson was in the country to promote The Scorpion King. It was reported that Mutoh was attempting to open the lines of communication between All Japan Pro Wrestling and WWE.Nothing ever came of the meeting. The two had a staredown at a WWE event in Yokohama a few months prior when Mutoh was doing commentary for one of the television stations that featured highlights of the show.
