CM Punk’s UFC signing was announced a little under seven months ago, leading to endless inquiries as to when his first fight will be, and debate whether or not the former WWE Champion will even step into the cage. It appears Punk hasn’t backed down from his plan.
On this evening’s UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani noted that CM Punk has moved from Chicago to Milwaukee in order to be closer to Roufusport, the training center in which he’s belonged to for several months. One of the reasons Punk said he picked the gym was because he wouldn’t have to sacrifice quality for convenience.
The gym has several world-class talents, including former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, former Bellator Welterweight Champion and undefeated fighter Ben Askren, as well as Sergio Pettis, among others.
It’s probably no coincidence that Punk waited until after hockey season to make the move, as he’s a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, and attended several postseason games. As of now, Punk doesn’t have a fight scheduled, and his coach Duke Roufus has said he’d like Punk to have a full year of training before signing off on one.
