Former WWE announcer Josh Mathews appeared on the latest episode of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, which you can listen to here. During the interview, Mathews talked about being impressed with the Dixie Carter table storyline, leaving WWE, signing with TNA and more.

Mathews also discussed still having bad habits from his WWE run, like having a hard time calling a belt a belt and not using the term “wrestling.” He said that he doesn’t think that “wrestler” is a dirty word, but he calls them “athletes” and not “superstars” because “that’s f–king lame as sh-t.” He also talked about Vince McMahon doubling down on the term “sports entertainment” during Steve Austin’s podcast last year.

“I just look at it as someone who doesn’t get it anymore, and who has lost so much touch with what his product is. [He] didn’t like anything else that was going on so he literally created his own universe,” Mathews said. “I mean, that’s what they called it the ‘Universe,’ because he created it and he lives in that bubble.”
