Jay Sulli and “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert are of course our hosts for today. They run down the card which will feature more action from W*ING wrestlers and the crowning of new Tag Team Champions. Gilbert says that he may be leaving ECW to go somewhere else. Sulli wants to thank Gilbert for the gifts he has given him the past few weeks. He tells Gilbert to close his eyes so he can put his brand new crown that he got him on. Sulli puts a Burger King crown on Gilbert. Gilbert of course freaks out.

Paul E. Dangerously is backstage with Twisted Steel and Sex Appeal. They have a much coming up against Stan “The Lariat” Hansen and they seem rather over confident telling Hansen to not even bother showing up.

Stan “The Lariat” Hansen vs. Twisted Steel & Sex Appeal ref Jim Molineaux (1993-08-07)
Hansen beats the crap out of both Don E. Allen and Herve Renesto for 1.16 getting the pin on Allen after a standing lariat. After the match he ties Renesto to the ring post with his rope and headbutts him a few times.

Hansen is backstage with Jay Sulli to hype UltraClash coming up in 2 weeks.

Eddie Gilbert says he found a new host for the show. Gilbert brings out a dog. Gilbert says Missy Hyatt is the mother of the dog.

W*ING Tag Team Champions The Headhunters & Freddy Kruger vs. “Wildman” Sal Bellomo & Super Destroyers (w/ Hunter Q. Robbins) ref John Finnegan (1993-08-07)
Joined in progress the W*INGs wrestlers are in control until Bellomo makes the tag to Super D 1. The W*INGs guys all come in the ring and attack #1. Super D 2 comes in the ring and helps them beat up #1. The ref calls for the bell and the match is a double DQ. 2.40 is shown. Bellomo comes in the ring with a chair to chase off everyone from Super D 1.

Tod Gordon is in the ring and he calls out “Wildman” Sal Bellomo. Sherri Martel comes out and Bellomo gives her a stuffed animal. Hunter Q. Robbins III comes out also. Sherri knocks down Robbins and out comes Tony Stetson, Richard Michaels, and Super Destroyer 2. They tackle Bellomo and Michaels whips him with a belt. Bellomo will take on Michaels at UltraClash with the loser getting 10 lashes.

Paul E. Dangerously is backstage with The Dark Patriot. Paul E. questions if Smith is sick enough to throw Patriot off the scaffold. Patriot says he’s going to break Smith’s neck.

W*ING Junior Heavyweight Champion Masayoshi Motegi vs. “Jazzy” JT Smith, ref John Finnegan (1993-08-08)
Smith has picked up an awful nickname. They trade off arm bars and leg locks. Motegi gets a running knee in the corner and then a DDT for 2. Smith now with a running knee to the corner and he locks in a head scissor arm bar combo. Motegi with an Indian deathlock. Paul E. mentions on commentary that the 10 minute time limit is coming close. My stop watch says we are about 6 minutes in. Motegi really working over the legs and spine of Smith. Motegi with an STF and Paul E. marks huge for the move. Smith gets to the ropes. Motegi pulls Smith to the middle and locks it in again. Smith gets to the ropes again. Irish whip Smith ducks a clothesline and grabs the arm and goes into a submission. Flying clothesline by Smith. Motegi flips out of a suplex and hits a German with a bridge but the bell rings before the ref can make the 3 count. A 10 minute time limit draw that actually ran 8.26. “Fabulous” Shane Douglas and Dark Patriot hit the ring and go after Smith’s leg but Motegi helps chase them off.

Sandman and “Wildman” Sal Bellomo are backstage talking about the finals of the Tag Title Tournament. They want to win the belts so the fans have champions to be proud of.

“Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert and Dark Patriot are backstage now. Gilbert is going to take Bellomo’s stuff animals and shove them where the sun don’t shine. Patriot is tired of dealing with idiots and the best way to get rid of them is to beat them up.

“Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert & Dark Patriot (w/ Freddie Gilbert) vs. Sandman & “Wildman” Sal Bellomo ref John Finnegan Tag Team Title Tournament 2nd Round Match (1993-08-07)
Eddie gets on the mic before the match and tells the fans to be perfectly quiet during his match. Eddie tells everyone to get on their knees. Paul E. says he doesn’t want Sulli to get on his knees cause he doesn’t trust him. All four men go at it Gilbert and Patriot are whipped into each other and they roll to the outside. Sandman and Patriot start off. Patriot pushes Sandman to Gilbert in the corner. Gilbert hits Sandman with a soda can. Gilbert holds Sandman and Patriot goes for a knee but Sandman moves and Eddie gets hit. Sandman with a back body drop and we cut away to highlights of Abdullah the Butcher again. Back to the match Paul E. Dangerously has made his way to ringside. Bellomo hits the ropes and gets tripped up. Patriot gets tagged in and throws Bellomo to the floor. Patriot with a baseball slide. Paul E. distracts the ref and Eddie comes in the ring and hits Bellomo with a chair to the back. Gilbert and the Patriot double team Bellomo and tag in and out. Bellomo gets a DDT when the Patriot dugs his head for a back drop but can’t keep control. Gilbert gets tagged in but Bellomo is able to fight him off and make the tag. Sandman comes in and takes out both his opponents. Sandman with a drop kick off the top but the ref is out of the ring with Bellomo and Patriot. Paul E. comes in but Sandman grabs him. Paul drops his phone to Gilbert. Gilbert nails Sandman in the back of the head with it as the ref comes back in the ring and Gilbert and Patriot are the new ECW Tag Team Champions. 8.14 of the match was shown.

My thoughts on the show…
Great show this week. The Smith/Motegi and main event tag match were two of the best ECW matches so far. While that doesn’t say much as most of the matches thus far have sucked it still gets this show a big thumbs up

TV 1993-09-14 (Matches taped 1993-08-07 from ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA)

Champions
Heavyweight: Tito Santana
TV: “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka
PA State: Tommy Cairo
Tag: “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert & The Dark Patriot

We open the show with the Stan “The Lariat” Hansen versus Twisted Steal and Sex Appeal match from last week.

Jay Sulli is in the studio with Tod Gordon this week. Today we have an UltraClash preview show. Gordon lets us know that “Fabulous” Shane Douglas is the new Heavyweight Champion. What’s not mentioned is that Douglas never actually wrestled Tito Santana for the belt. Sandman will take on Douglas for the title at UltraClash. Gordon makes a major announcement that “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert is out of the tag match at UltraClash and in his place is Kevin Sullivan. Sulli pretty much shits his pants over this announcement.

Tony Stetson will take on Tommy Cairo for the PA State Championship and we learn that Stetson has recently won that title. We go to that match.

PA State Champion “Ironman” Tommy Cairo vs. Tony “The Hitman” Stetson (w/ Hunter Q. Robbins) ref John Finnegan
Cairo with an arm drag and Stetson bails and regroups with Robbins. Stetson with an eye poke and flying clothesline. Cairo fights back with a corner whip and charges with an elbow. Belly to belly gets 2 and he throws Stetson to the floor. Back in the ring Stetson takes control and hits a top rope leg drop for 2. Cairo fights back and Stetson bails to the floor again. Stetson pulls Cairo to the floor and breaks Robbins cane over Cairo’s back. Double clothesline takes down both men. Stetson throws Cairo into the buckle. Cairo stumbles out and both men hit heads and crash into the ref. Robbins comes in and puts Stetson on top wakes the ref up and pins him to win the title in 5.54.

We see the interview with the $5,000.00 Inter-gender Battle Royal contestants from two weeks ago. We find out that Freddie Gilbert is gone from ECW and will not be in the battle royal at UltraClash. Don E. Allen and Jay Sulli however have been added! Sulli plans on calling his lawyer.

Sulli and Gordon discuss the mask versus mask match that will take place between the Super Destroyers. We see highlights of the semi final tournament match and six man tag match where the Destroyers split up.

Super Destroyer #1 is backstage with Jay Sulli. Sulli asks Destroyer what he has to say and Destroyer says he can’t say anything. He then goes on to say he is going to win the match and take the mask and shove it up Robbins you know what.

Super Destroyer #2 and Hunter Q. Robbins III are backstage with Paul E. Dangerously. #2 says he is a businessman and that’s why he did what he did.

W*ING Tag Team Champions The Headhunters will take on Miguelito Perez and W*ING Heavyweight Champion Crash the Terminator in a barbed wire baseball bat match. Gordon lets us know that the match is not sanctioned by ECW but by W*ING. We see the tag team match with the Headhunters against Perez and Mr. Danger that aired 2 weeks ago.

Sulli and Gordon run down the UltraClash show one last time to close out the show.

My thoughts on the show…
Good lead into UltraClash. Be sure to check this show out before watching UltraClash ’93 to get an idea of what’s going on. Thumbs up here once again.
