++Buddy Rogers got involved in a dressing room brawl with Karl Gotch and Big Bill Miller in Columbus, Ohio. Rogers’ elbow was injured and he had to drop out of the Sept. 14 match against Bob Ellis in St. Louis. Sam Muchnick recruited Lou Thesz out of semiretirement to replace Rogers and face Ellis.++

Cowboy Bob Ellis won 2/3 falls over Lou Thesz, a substitute for NWA Champion Buddy Rogers. After each won a fall, Thesz was disqualified in a hot controversy. Referee Lou Spandle disqualified Thesz for pulling Ellis back into the ring over the top rope for a Greco-Roman back body drop.
